- 01:47

- 01:54
- Now without further ado, here's Pastor Tim In this episode of Answering a
- 02:00
- Fool we're going to be answering the question Should Christians mind their own business Tend their own marriages and quit commenting on sodomy
- 02:07
- Now whenever Christians seek to speak to issues related to sodomy Inevitably what you're going to find is you're going to find
- 02:13
- A number of trolls who are essentially going to be saying the same kind of sentiment
- 02:19
- Which is to tell Christians to mind their own business And tend to their own marriages In other words, no one's perfect You just mind your own business, worry about yourself
- 02:29
- Now one of the things that's remarkable about comments like these Is the lack of self -awareness with which they exhibit and even making them
- 02:37
- The commenter in making this comment is clearly not following their own advice
- 02:43
- They're not minding their own businesses And they're not tending to their own affairs
- 02:48
- They are taking it upon themselves to correct us in a rather public way So I do want to point that out
- 02:55
- That is somewhat remarkable how that works It seems to be the case that the troll is always justified in their moral condemnation
- 03:05
- But then if anyone else brings moral condemnation Then that moral condemnation is somehow inappropriate
- 03:11
- It's amazing how that works Now one of the issues that's related to a comment like this
- 03:17
- Is the issue that's often brought up And that's the issue of the fact that Christian marriages by and large
- 03:26
- Do not seem to be in very good order And there's plenty of secular statistics that can be brought up at this point
- 03:36
- The Barner Research and everything else That would say that many marriages by professing
- 03:42
- Christians Are in pretty rocky states And maybe the divorce rate among Christians Is not any better than the divorce rate among the world
- 03:49
- Now part of the problem with these kind of scenarios in general
- 03:54
- This kind of research in general Is that these kind of surveys are made in a country
- 04:01
- That has vast regions of the country Which are dominated by cultural Christianity And if you would just ask a few follow -up questions
- 04:09
- With many of these surveys You might get a completely different picture Meaning, if you'd ask a few more questions
- 04:15
- Like, do you ever read your Bible? This individual who considers himself a Christian In some way, do you ever read your
- 04:22
- Bible? No Do you ever go to church? No And if you were to narrow down the recipients
- 04:27
- To individuals who maybe read their Bible at least once a week And go to church at least maybe two or three times a month
- 04:34
- Or something like that One of the things you'll find is that Christian marriages by and large Are doing much better than secular marriages
- 04:40
- But when you consider the question in general Should Christians mind their own businesses
- 04:46
- And tend to their own marriage? Well obviously, Christians should be tending their own marriages Obviously Obviously, Christians should be the sorts of people
- 04:53
- Who are first and foremost concerned with The types of sins they themselves are committing There is a kind of humility that says
- 05:01
- That I want God to deliver me personally From the sins that I'm committing Far more than I want him to deliver other people
- 05:09
- From the sins that they are committing If you've observed marriages at any length One of the things you're going to find is
- 05:14
- If a couple comes into counseling Inevitably, the man is going to be coming to counseling
- 05:21
- In the vast majority of cases With a keen interest in fixing the problems of his wife
- 05:30
- And the woman is going to come into counseling With a very passionate concern To fix all the problems that she clearly sees in the husband
- 05:38
- And neither one of them are going to approach Their own problems with the same level of diligence
- 05:43
- As they will approach the problems of their spouse And this is fundamentally a problem This is an issue
- 05:48
- Christians should obviously be concerned With the sins that we ourselves are committed At the same time
- 05:54
- One of the things that you might realize Is that the Bible doesn't just tell us Get the log out of your own eye, period
- 06:02
- The Bible says get the log out of your own eye So that you will be able to see clearly
- 06:08
- To remove the speck out of your brother's eye So if you are the type of individual
- 06:15
- Who is willing to overlook a log in your own eye And then try to remove the minute speck
- 06:22
- In someone else's eye That is clearly a problem That is clearly an issue But if we read through that passage more carefully
- 06:30
- One of the things that we realize Is that there is an expectation That you do get rid of that log
- 06:35
- In order that you might see clearly To remove the speck in your brother's eye The goal there is not just to fix yourself
- 06:43
- But to help the other person The Bible calls us our brother's keeper One of Cain's problems is
- 06:49
- He says am I my brother's keeper? And the polite answer is yes You were your brother's keeper You should be looking out for your brother
- 06:55
- If you read through the New Testament One of the things you are going to see Is we have responsibilities to other people
- 07:00
- We have responsibilities to share the good news to them Paul, he says to the churches
- 07:06
- That he has labored to Day and night for a period of three years He says that I am innocent of your blood
- 07:13
- Because I did not cease to I did not fail to declare to you The whole counsel of God One of the things you realize
- 07:18
- Is that we have obligations to other people To share the truth with other people And that truth that we share with them
- 07:23
- Might be rejected And one of the ways that we qualify ourselves To help other people
- 07:29
- Is to deal with the sin in our own life So the Bible says If anyone is caught in any transgression You who are spiritual
- 07:34
- Should restore the other person In a spirit of gentleness Looking to yourself Lest you also be tempted
- 07:40
- Obviously we should be the kind of individuals Who are first and foremost Seeking to fix the problems that we face
- 07:46
- But then we should also Out of love for other people Seek to help other people Who are caught in transgressions
- 07:53
- That we are not caught in ourselves This has been another installment Of Answering a
