YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A CESSATIONIST: Scripture Forbids Speaking Tongues W/O an Interpreter

Cessationist. If you've ever been part of a church with a pastor, the pastor's wife, or a whole group of people, or maybe the entire congregation, spoke in tongues and nobody interpreted, go ahead and hit the subscribe button below.

Now this series recognizes that there currently exists a stalemate in the debates between continuationists and cessationists, and it doesn't have to be so.

In fact, over and again we're going to demonstrate in this series, you don't have to be a cessationist to recognize that many of the beliefs and practices within the

Charismatic, Pentecostal, NAR, continuationist churches, that they're not biblical.

In fact, explicitly contrary to clear passages of Scripture. But the way the debate has kind of ground down is, which is biblical?

Is it cessationism or continuationism that is biblical? And in the mind of the continuationist, if they're not convinced that cessationism is biblical, then literally in their mind, anything goes.

And if you question or challenge any manifestations of the Spirit, then you really run the risk of committing the blasphemy of the

Holy Spirit. I know that sounds kind of crazy, but in the anything -goes department, I mean, I mean, it's literally anything -goes, like anything -goes like this kind of anything -goes.

We want all that you have, all that you have. Yes. And Lord, if it blows our little mind, let them be blown.

Father, we want all of what you have, all of what you have. We thank you.

Hallelujah. Yeah, I think you get the idea there. So the basic idea behind all of this is, again, you don't have to be a cessationist to recognize that much of this stuff is not biblical, and so today we're going to take a look at the question, or the idea, you don't have to be a cessationist to know that Scripture forbids speaking in tongues, and we should say in church, without an interpreter.

The Scripture is so clear on this that it is absolutely unambiguous, and anybody who would deny this is literally rebelling against clear, explicit portions of Scripture.

So let me go ahead and get the Bible up, and we'll take a look at our biblical text here, and then we'll look at two examples, two examples, clear examples of men who are speaking in tongues in a church service without an interpreter.

So 1st Corinthians 14 26, What then, brothers, when you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, an interpretation, let all things be done for building up.

If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two, or at the most three, and each in turn, not all at the same time, and let someone interpret.

But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church, and speak to himself and to God.

That's a clear command, and by the way, the Apostle Paul punctuates this at the end of chapter 14, he says this starting at verse 37, if anyone thinks that he is a prophet or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things

I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.

So note, Scripture makes it clear that this is a command from God Himself, from the Lord Himself, and anyone who will not acknowledge this command as coming from God, and will not abide by it, should not be recognized in Christ's Church.

So again, the text, again, is clear. Let all things be done for building up.

If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two, or at the most three, each in turn, and let someone interpret.

And then verse 33 is actually quite explicit about this, for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.

Now, if you've been in a church where everybody spoke in tongues all at the same time, that's a complete, confusing, out -of -order, bizarre thing.

In fact, it's straight -up rebellion against God. Now, to make the point, we're gonna look at two folks in particular regarding this.

The first is Dr. Michael Brown. This is a church service from a few years back, and listen in as Michael Brown literally speaks in tongues without an interpreter, which

God's Word explicitly forbids. Here we go. Thank you, Father. Everyone just begin to pray.

Lord God. Lord God. By the way, that's not tongues.

That's gibberish. But he spoke in tongues without an interpreter, which

God's Word explicitly forbids. Again, remember what

Paul says. If anyone thinks he is a prophet, a spiritual, he should acknowledge the things I am writing to are a command of the

Lord. If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. So there's, well, video evidence of Dr.

Michael Brown speaking in tongues without an interpreter. The second person we're gonna look at is

John Kilpatrick. Note, John Kilpatrick and Michael Brown both were major leaders of the

Brownsville -Pensacola Revival in the 1990s. If you want to talk about the ongoing fruit of that revival, well, here we have two of the major leaders who are engaging in outright rebellion against the clear command of the

Lord that nobody speaks in tongues without an interpreter. Here's John Kilpatrick doing this.

And by the way, the church that Kilpatrick is at is the church where Perry Stone is the pastor.

This is Perry Stone's OCI Church. Listen in. ...a sound during worship that church people have never heard before, and it's gonna be sounds of weeping, it's gonna be sounds of laughter, and it's gonna be sounds of the

Holy Spirit moving. It's gonna be a sovereign...whoa, I feel that right now. Come on, lift your hands up right quick. I feel like God is about to do great things.

Come on, lift your...whoa, he felt the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's here. Quick, everyone, to get your hands up in the air or something. ...voice with me, everybody.

Stand just for a moment. Stand up just for a moment. Lift your hands up. Come on, lift your voices. Satorapa kurabayandrabosata ikurabashalabasanto.

Explicitly forbidden by a clear command of the Lord from 1st

Corinthians 14. I want you to lift your voice up, everybody. Get that silence off of you.

Yeah, I think you get the point there.

Just let's review again what Scripture says. Let all things be done for building up. If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at the most three, each in turn, and let someone interpret.

If there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in the church and speak to himself and to God.

And if anyone thinks that he is a prophet or spiritual, he needs to acknowledge that the things

I am writing are a command of the Lord. Yeah, you don't have to be a cessationist to recognize that, well,

Scripture forbids speaking in tongues without an interpreter.
