It's my great privilege to explore with you what the Word of God has to teach us about the nature and practice of true-hearted discipleship. Much of the Bible's teaching on being a follower of Jesus is deeply unsettling and uncomfortable to read.

Your problem is not that you need a refresher course in religion. Your problem is deeper and profounder. You must be born again. This is true seeker-sensitive religion. No matter how deeply sin is ingrained in you, no matter how powerful a hold it appears to have on you, with the help of the Spirit, you can put that sin to death.

And the way we put sin to death is by setting our faith on our all-conquering, reigning Savior, Jesus Christ. One of the marks of a true-hearted disciple is that they don't dally with sin, trifle with sin, live lightly to sin, thinking that the blood of Christ covers it all.

No, the true-hearted disciple hates the sin that despises the Savior.
