while while while while while and you were like, if this was not enough for this thing, what else should we do?
00:22
And that's the thing, when I got that key, that's when it came when there was a movie. It was sad, but it was a good movie.
00:30
It's got a lot of good stuff in it. It's got a lot of good stuff in it. It's got a lot of good stuff in it.
00:40
It's got a lot of good stuff in it. The first episode is, it's the kids who get told that it's not gonna be a good movie, and then the kids are like, how am
00:50
I gonna do it? So that's kind of what they were talking about. Let's just say it's gonna be the animation version.
00:58
It's gonna be the animation version. It's gonna be the animation version. It's gonna be the animation version.
01:06
It's gonna be the animation version. It's gonna be the animation version.
01:15
And, in the end, you'd never know.
01:27
The first movie was good. The first movie was good. And the second movie, this was broken.
01:38
I don't like stand -alone. I don't like stand -alone. Which one? Yes. Stand -alone.
01:45
It'll be your stand -alone complex. I don't like stand -alone. I didn't care for something. I didn't care for the movie.
01:51
But the movies, the later movies were cut -down edits.
01:57
They always just needed a little bit of animation. They always took out a few shots. They always had a few shots. Oh, really?
02:03
Oh, she goes around? So, we were just three men and three women, I guess. But I was really shocked.
02:11
She had it, too. Yeah, it's not like when you're in the studio, it's a surprise. Another one that we did was when
02:16
Ashley was walking. That was great. Her hair, yeah.
02:22
Her hair was great, I thought it was great. But it was a commercial. You were watching the...
02:28
I was in high school when that came out. Oh, her class. In the trauma room.
02:34
Yeah, like the first time you see somebody machine gun in a street and they animate every scene. You're just like...
02:40
No, like the ending, I was like, well, that came out of nowhere. Oh, yeah, I think it was. I actually don't know.
02:50
I'm giving him, I'm giving him such a, such a, such a, it's a dark, it's a dark, but good one, and there's a not quite you can do that spin on music.
03:01
But that's a backdrop for you. You know what I wish would make a movie that's such an advantage? You never watch the movie, but they have yet to make a very good movie.
03:13
I'm really serious. They always keep failing. I just wanted to make a movie that I could do better. It would be a good movie.
03:20
I personally just read the book, and that was it. What did he do to deserve something he's always been good at?

We'd like to welcome you all to Kongsvinger Lutheran Church.
07:48
Today is the 25th Sunday after Trinity. Just a reminder for everybody that there is no
07:54
Sunday school today. After the divine service we will have our annual congregational meeting.
08:01
Today we'll, like I said, we'll be following the order of divine service setting three. And the psalm tone today for our intro is psalm tone
08:09
F as in Farfetched Nugent. Farfetched Nugent, F as in that.
08:16
All right, if you are physically present here at Kongsvinger and you are able, please rise for the opening hymn.
13:40
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Beloved in the Lord, let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto
13:48
God our Father, beseeching him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.
13:55
Our help is in the name of the Lord. I said I will confess my transgressions unto the
14:02
Lord. And don't forget the iniquity of my sins. Almighty God, merciful
14:10
Father, I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto you all my sins and iniquities with which
14:18
I have ever offended you and justly deserve your temporal and eternal punishment.
14:25
But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them. And I pray you of your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of your beloved
14:39
Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.
14:47
Upon this, your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the word,
14:53
I announce the grace of God unto all of you. And in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all of your sins in the name of the
15:00
Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Psalm Tone F.
15:23
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress. Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors.
15:35
Let me not be put to shame. For in you,
15:46
O Lord, do I take refuge. Let me never be put to shame.
15:54
In your righteousness, incline your ear to me.
16:02
Rescue me speedily. Into your hand
16:07
I commit my spirit. You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.
16:17
And let your heart take me to the
16:28
Father and to the Son and to the
16:34
Holy Spirit. As it was in love, is now and will be forever.
16:50
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress. Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those from my persecutors.
17:01
Let me not be put to shame.
17:07
For the
20:04
Lord be with you. Almighty God, we implore you, show your mercy to your humble servants that we who put no trust in our own merits may be dealt with after, may not be dealt with after the severity of your judgment, but according to your mercy.
20:31
Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
20:44
You may be seated. The Old Testament reading for this, the 25th
20:50
Sunday after Trinity, is taken from the book of Exodus chapter 32.
20:57
When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him,
21:04
Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.
21:14
So Aaron said to them, Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons and your daughters and bring them to me.
21:23
So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron.
21:28
And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf.
21:34
They said, These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it.
21:41
And Aaron made proclamation and said, Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord. And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings.
21:51
And the people sat down to eat and to drink and rose up to play. And the Lord said to Moses, Go down for your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.
22:01
They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them. They have made for themselves a golden calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it.
22:09
And said, These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. And the Lord said to Moses, I have seen this people.
22:16
And behold, it is a stiff neck people. Now, therefore, let me alone that my wrath may burn hot against them.
22:23
And I may consume them in order that I may make a great nation of you. But Moses implored the
22:28
Lord his God and said, O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people whom you have brought up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
22:37
Why should the Egyptians say with evil intent did he bring them out to kill them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth?
22:46
Turn from your burning anger and relent from this disaster against your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self and said to them,
22:56
I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and all this land that I have promised
23:01
I will give to your offspring and they shall inherit it forever. And the Lord relented from the disaster that he had spoken of bringing on his people.
23:09
Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets that were written on both sides, on the front and on the back.
23:19
They were written. The tablets were the work of God. The writing was the writing of God engraved on the tablets.
23:25
When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, there's a noise of war in the camp.
23:31
But he said, it is not the sound of shouting for victory or the sound of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing that I hear.
23:39
And as soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses's anger burned hot and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.
23:49
He took the calf that they had made and burned it with fire and ground it to powder and scattered it on the water and made the people of Israel drink it.
23:57
This is the word of the Lord. Speak the gradual together.
24:06
Your foes have roared in the midst of your meeting place. Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old.
24:20
The epistle is taken from First Thessalonians chapter four.
24:28
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
24:35
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
24:42
For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the
24:47
Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, with the sound of the trumpet of God and the dead in Christ will rise first.
25:01
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the
25:06
Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore, encourage one another with these words.
25:12
This is the word of the Lord. The Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew, the 24th chapter.
25:46
Jesus said, when you see the abomination of desolation spoken by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place, let the reader understand.
25:54
Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let the one who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house.
26:02
Let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. And alas, for women who are pregnant, for those who are nursing infants in those days, pray that your flight may not be in the winter or on a
26:12
Sabbath. For then there will be a great tribulation such as not been from the beginning of the world until now, no and never will be.
26:19
And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. For but for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short.
26:28
Then if anyone says to you, look, here's the Christ or there he is, do not believe it. For false
26:33
Christ and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders. So as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
26:41
See, I've told you beforehand. So if they say to you, look, he's in the wilderness, do not go out.
26:46
If they say, look, he's in the inner rooms, do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the son of man.
26:55
Wherever the corpse is there, the vultures will gather. This is the gospel of the Lord. We confess our faith together in the words of the
27:10
Nicene Creed. I believe in one
27:17
God, the father almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
27:24
And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God, begotten of his father before all worlds.
27:33
God of God, light of light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the father by whom all things were made, who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the
27:52
Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary and was made man and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.
28:01
He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the father.
28:12
And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.
28:19
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the father and the son, who with the father and the son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.
28:33
And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins.
28:41
And I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. You may be seated.
34:09
In the name of Jesus. Amen. Brothers and sisters, we are at war. I think you all know that.
34:15
I'm not talking about war between the United States or any other nation. I'm talking about the fact that Satan has declared war on us.
34:22
And you'll note Satan is a terribly crazy and maniacal, powerful, energizer, bunny of evil.
34:30
And his great intent for you is your harm and your eternal demise. I am not overstating the case.
34:37
If anything, I may be understating it. And anybody who does not understand that we are at war is, well, they become what the military calls casualties.
34:47
That's how this goes down. So I want you to think of it this way. Bad preaching regarding the end of the world always goes something like this.
34:55
Jesus is going to return in a secret rapture, and you need to make sure that you are prepared so that you are not left behind.
35:03
And being prepared means making sure that you don't drink, dance, smoke, or chew, or do anything that would jeopardize your readiness for the rapture.
35:13
I remember a viral video that came out a long, long time ago before we even had the term viral video. Some church members decided to play a joke on somebody in their congregation, and they all went out to a fast food restaurant.
35:25
And everybody was in on it except for this one girl. And what they ended up doing, a terrible thing to do by the way, is that when she got up to go to use the restroom, everybody had a pair of clothes.
35:36
They put it on their seats and all this kind of stuff, and they left the restaurant.
35:41
And when the girl came out from the restroom, she saw all the clothes there, and she went into a panic thinking that she had been left behind.
35:50
Horrible thing to do. Here's a better way to think about it. Y 'all are here because you is saved.
35:58
Bad grammar intended, right? Y 'all are here because you want to hear the word of God. You've heard today that your sins are forgiven, and you will be reassured over and again from this pulpit that you are bled for.
36:12
All of your sins died for. God's wrath has been propitiated. You have been forgiven and pardoned.
36:19
God has made you alive in Christ, and he is the one who continues to sanctify you and work through his word through the
36:26
Holy Spirit to continue to conform you to the image of God. And you are being assured today of the forgiveness of all of your sins.
36:33
That being the case, a good way to think about it is that this then is a military meeting of the soldiers who are fighting for Christ, who are in a pitched battle.
36:46
That being the case, I would note that in military terms, it's a good idea to have some reconnaissance, to have an idea of what the enemy is up to so that you may be prepared for the battles ahead.
36:58
When we consider what Christ reveals in our gospel text, and we'll add a little bit more context to it, you'll note that Christ is preparing us.
37:06
But here's the thing. Jesus is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. He knows the end from the beginning, and there is nothing that Jesus doesn't know about how things are gonna go down as we get closer to his return.
37:21
That being the case, his intelligence is impeccable, right?
37:27
So that we would never be caught off guard. We understand that we are at war, and so a good way to think about it.
37:35
I always have a love for studying or hearing stories about the guys who flew the
37:42
B -17 bombers during World War II, right? They would be waked up in the middle of the night to get ready for their mission, and they always knew they were going on a mission because the meal they had the night before was always a good one.
37:54
They were generally given good food, but they were always given a good last meal because many of those guys didn't come back.
38:00
And then at O -Dark 30, whatever the time is, they would go into the ready room and they would open up this big old curtain and on the wall would be a map showing them what their mission was going to be.
38:14
That's what Matthew 24 is. It's a big map showing us what our mission's going to be, but here's the thing.
38:24
Christ isn't guessing about what Satan's going to do. In fact, the map reveals this, and that is that as we get closer to the return of Christ, as it says in the book of Revelation, Satan himself will be unbound.
38:39
Currently, I think we still are, may have changed five minutes ago, I don't know.
38:45
Currently, we are in the era where Satan is bound. There is a time when he will be unbound and the best way to put it is like all hell will break loose.
38:54
It's gonna be like the battle of Armageddon. You know, it's the final battle between good and evil and all of us are in the crosshairs.
39:03
If you don't understand this, then you are likely to fall to the deceptions that are coming in the last day.
39:10
So Christ here in Matthew 24 says, here's the map, here's Satan's goal, here's how he's going to do it and he's preparing us all ahead of time for the battle that's ahead because you are ready, because he hasn't left you behind, because he wants you to know what's coming, because his intent is to bring you safely into his kingdom.
39:35
Now, this does not mean that there will not be physical casualties. As we read in the book of Matthew 24, there actually will be casualties, many of them, just like in any battle.
39:48
So we all have to be prepared for that. So backing up into the context, Matthew 24, verse one,
39:54
Jesus left the temple and was going away when his disciples came to him to point out the buildings of the temple, but he answered, you see all of these, do you not?
40:02
Truly I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.
40:10
Christ, decades before the armies of the Roman legions under General Titus showed up in Israel, prophesied that the temple would be destroyed, and it was in 70
40:22
AD, absolutely was. In fact, many of the stones of that temple lie still to this day in a rubble heap off to one side of the temple mount.
40:32
Jesus knew what he was talking about. He knows what's coming. So the disciples hearing this are a little like, whoa, whoa, did not expect to hear that.
40:41
So as Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately saying, so tell us, when will these things be?
40:47
What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? I would note that the question that the disciples ask take several topics and squish them all together.
40:58
Listen to what he says. When will these things be? You know, the destruction of the temple that Jesus referred to.
41:04
When will be the destruction of the temple? But watch where their thinking goes. And what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age?
41:11
Did the age end with the destruction of the temple in 70 AD? No. So you're gonna note these guys are thinking the destruction of the temple has to be something like the judgment of God and the end of the world, the end of the age and the coming of Christ.
41:27
And so Jesus doesn't sit there and go, oh man, boys, I gotta send you back to eschatology 101. Okay, he just doesn't do that.
41:35
So what he does is he does what a lot of the prophets of the Old Testament do. He gives us what is called a proleptic prophecy.
41:42
A prophecy where there are parts of the prophecy that will be fulfilled in the near future.
41:49
And there are parts of the prophecy that will not be fulfilled until way later.
41:55
So for instance, you think of Isaiah. He's told to go confront King Ahab who's preparing for a siege.
42:03
He's checking the water supply of Jerusalem and God is basically telling him, listen, don't worry, I got your back.
42:09
Just trust in me. And so Isaiah is told by God to tell him,
42:16
I'm gonna take care of you so ask for a sign. May the sign be as high as heavens or as low as Sheol, whatever you want.
42:22
I will give you the sign so that you know that my intention for you is good, that I will rescue you. And Ahab, the boneheaded nincompoop that he is says,
42:31
I'm not gonna put the Lord God to the test. Oh, feigning piety, just nonsense, right?
42:36
So Isaiah then by God is prompted to give a prophecy. And this is the prophecy where he says,
42:43
God himself will give you a sign. The virgin shall conceive and bear a son and you shall call his name Immanuel.
42:49
Now did that happen in the lifetime of Ahab? No, not even close, right?
42:55
But you'll note then that there's more to the prophecy that's a time prophecy that has to do with the idea that about the time it takes for a woman to conceive, bear a child and then wean the child, by that amount of time, the people who you are worried about, they won't even be a problem anymore.
43:13
But you'll note then that that's not a complete prophecy because in Ahab's time,
43:22
Jesus didn't show up, right? So then that part of it then is fulfilled later, much later, centuries later, when
43:30
Christ is conceived in the womb of the Virgin Mary. So similar things are going on here in Matthew 24.
43:37
And the idea then is this, is that yes, there are parts that clearly are dealing with the destruction of the temple in 70
43:46
AD. But I would note there's a group of theologians who call themselves preterists who will sit there and say,
43:52
Matthew 24 is only referring to 70 AD and the whole thing has already been fulfilled. These are people who basically have theological obsessive compulsive disorder, okay?
44:02
They don't know how to deal with proleptic prophecies. So it's gotta be all of one thing and not the other because in their mind, they don't understand how prophecy works.
44:11
That's not what's going on here. Jesus will be talking about the temple, but in so doing, he's going to take the destruction of the temple, which is
44:20
God's judgment against Israel for their continued breaking of the Mosaic covenant, where God is gonna invoke the last clauses from Deuteronomy 28 and bring them to pass upon impenitent
44:32
Israel. And that then becomes the template, the type and shadow of what will happen at the end of the world.
44:39
The themes work together and you can't undo them. They're all kind of mingled together. So here's what
44:44
Christ says. First thing, see that no one leads you astray.
44:53
Why? Because Satan is waging war against the church. And one of his major weapons is to basically overload your ears with so much nonsense that it's hard to hear the voice of sound doctrine.
45:10
And so he says, many will come in my name. He didn't say some, there'll be a few, a smattering.
45:15
He says, no, many will come in my name saying, I am the Christ. And they will lead many astray.
45:24
Bless me. Okay. So note here, many will come saying,
45:29
I am the Christ. Now, here's where we got to recognize something is that the way this reads in the
45:34
Greek, it's not merely people saying, I am Jesus. Okay. This is somebody claiming to be a special anointed one.
45:43
That's what a Christos is. And I would note, point to the new apostolic reformation. If you're familiar with what goes on in those particular circles and in those networks, there's a bunch of people running around the landscape and the internet claiming that they have special anointings, which means they are little
46:02
Christos, right? They're little Christs. That's what's going on here.
46:07
I would note that I've heard many a people say that Bill Johnson of Bethel Church in Redding, California has an apostolic anointing on his life.
46:18
And when you hear the word anointing, you need to translate it back into Greek. They're claiming to be a
46:24
Christ. Right? So many will claim that I am a Christ or I'm the Christ and they will lead many astray.
46:31
You'll hear, now this next part, pay attention to this because Christ is going to dismiss this. You will hear of wars and rumors of war.
46:38
See that you're not alarmed for this must take place, but the end is not yet. So you're not supposed to be looking at kind of the geopolitical world of China invades
46:46
Thailand, right? And we end up going to war against China and against Russia and the
46:51
World War III breaks out. That's not a sign of Christ's imminent return. It's just not. That's the normal way in which humans have been operating since the fall of humanity.
47:02
So you hear of wars and rumors of war. See that you're not alarmed. This must take place, but the end is not yet. Nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom.
47:10
There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. And then what is he says? All of these are but the beginning of birth pains.
47:17
And those of you who've had babies, you women, you've had babies, you know that labor is an intense experience, right?
47:27
There's nothing that anybody can do to prepare you for it, okay? My wife and I, we went to Lamaze classes, okay?
47:35
And I'm convinced that Lamaze classes are basically designed to make the husband not look as stupid as he could be when his wife goes into labor.
47:42
I think that's the whole point, okay? Because when the real labor kicked in and the contractions kept coming and coming and they got stronger and stronger and stronger and more intense, nobody could prepare us for what was going on.
48:03
All we could do was kind of like hang on and pray that it would end soon, that we would get to the end of all of this.
48:09
But that's kind of the point. So here's your big metaphor. Jesus is saying that the end of the world is going to be like labor.
48:18
It's going to get worse. It's going to get more intense. It's going to get stronger.
48:24
What's being birthed here, I hate using that word because of Prophecy Bingo, but what's being birthed here is the new earth, right?
48:32
And so the humanity, the planet, the creation itself is in these birth pains and it's just gonna get stronger and stronger and stronger.
48:41
But then pay attention to what happens next. This is up on the map. This is what
48:47
Satan intends to do. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.
48:57
It doesn't say some, it says all. You think about when things went bad in Germany, when the
49:05
Nazis took power. What did the Jews, a lot of the Jews who had a right mind about what was coming, they fled the country.
49:12
They sought asylum in the United States and other parts of Europe and around the world. Because they could see what was coming.
49:18
But I think Jesus here is basically saying that you're gonna be hated by all nations. That kind of prefiguring a time when
49:25
Christians will be so despised among all of the people on planet earth that there will be no nations for them to seek asylum in.
49:35
Are you ready for that? It's on the board. This is what Christ says their strategy is going to be.
49:43
Because of this, and here's the reason why Satan has this strategy, many will fall away.
49:51
And I would note, there are many Christians today who do not know their Bible. They don't understand even the basics of eschatology.
49:58
And worse, they think that Christianity is all about having your best life now. Right? And so when this happens, do you think they're going to stick around?
50:10
No, here's what's gonna happen. Jesus says many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another.
50:16
That being the case, you can see what's gonna happen is that those who didn't sign up for persecution, they were just looking for Christianity to be like any of the other fertility cults.
50:27
They wanted to have more children, more wealth, more power, and basically use God for having their best life now.
50:34
When persecution comes, they're gonna say, I'm not a Christian. I recant being a
50:41
Christian. Oh, and by the way, to show you my sincerity about the fact that I'm not a Christian, I know five people who
50:47
I used to attend a small group Bible study with. Here's their names and addresses. You can go and arrest them. Does this sound like a safe situation?
50:57
No. So many will fall away. They will betray one another. They will hate one another. And then here's the next part.
51:04
And I'm convinced that this is being fulfilled right now. You know, these are not in linear order up to this point.
51:10
He's just throwing out a bunch of things. He says many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
51:16
There have been false prophets throughout the entire history of Christianity. They crop up from time to time in notable ones.
51:23
You know, like Joseph Smith or Ellen White or people like this, right? But here's the thing. I look at what's happening right now and I cannot remember when
51:34
I was growing up as a Nazarene hearing about this many prophets. Every time I go on to prepare for prophecy, bingo, it's a huge list of so -called prophets who are out there prophesying and giving words of the
51:49
Lord. And the list gets longer and longer and longer and longer with each month.
51:55
And I'm thinking, where did these all come from? It's like flies at a picnic, right?
52:02
So Christ says many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. Check. That's happening now.
52:10
And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. Help me out on this one.
52:16
This one, I need a little bit of leeway to explain this. You'll note that the world we live in, lawlessness is really the rule of the day, right?
52:25
And so when you think about the trans agenda and all the weird stuff that's going on where people are rejecting what
52:33
God has made them and the pushback against anything that is godly or has any morals, you'll note that the increase of lawlessness is really among us.
52:43
But I would note the love of many growing cold. The example of the overreaction to the lawlessness would be the, well, the rise of Nazism in our day again.
52:53
That's the ultimate example of the complete love of many growing cold. Thinking that the solution to the problems that we're facing with dealing with the woke agenda is to somehow believe that Hitler is a saint and that the
53:07
Nazis were showing us the way. This is exactly how people, their love grows cold and Christ prophesied it.
53:16
But Christ then says this, the one who endures to the end will be saved. The one who endures to the end will be saved.
53:24
How does one endure? I've said it before, I'll say it again. The band Journey was prophetic.
53:30
They wrote a song and you should keep this in your head. Don't stop believing. That's how one endures.
53:39
Regardless of how much the world has gone nuts, you keep humbly believing
53:45
Christ has bled and died for your sins. You keep coming to hear that your sins are forgiven.
53:51
You continue to receive the body and blood of Christ given and shed for the forgiveness of your sins.
53:56
And despite your own sin and the insanity of the world, you say Christ is true.
54:02
His promises are sure. I continue to believe in him even at the cost of my own life.
54:08
That's the idea. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations and then the end will come.
54:17
Next part, a little bit of a controversial portion, but I will make no apologies for the fact that I think that the man of lawlessness is a real dude.
54:25
I know that some Lutheran theologians deny that he's a real dude and other theologians in the Lutheran church believe he's a real dude.
54:31
I'm with those guys. When you see the abomination of desolation spoken by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place, watch the parenthetical statement.
54:40
Let the reader understand. So Paul says in 2 Thessalonians that the end will not come until the man of lawlessness is revealed.
54:50
The one who exalts himself above every so -called
54:55
God or object of worship, proclaiming himself to be God in the temple of God.
55:02
That's what 2 Thessalonians says. So there's a time coming when somebody so empowered by Satan practically sounds exactly like Satan.
55:15
Remember when Jesus was being tempted by Satan in the wilderness, the final temptation,
55:21
Satan said, I will give you all the kingdoms of the earth if you will bow down and worship me. Satan wants to be
55:28
God and so his final emissary, his final manifestation in human flesh, if you would, is the abomination of desolation.
55:39
Daniel writes about him. Christ is telling us about him. Paul warns us about him and you get glimpses of him in the book of Revelation.
55:47
So when you see him standing in the holy place, this is not talking about a third temple being rebuilt in Jerusalem.
55:54
I would note that if they do succeed in building another temple in Jerusalem, that thing would be an abomination and the reason why is simple because the
56:03
Old Testament temple was a type and shadow pointing us to Christ. All of the sacrifices that took place in the temple were pointing to the once for all sacrifice in Christ.
56:13
To go back to the types and shadows is not a good thing and whatever they set up as their holy of holies would be the opposite of it.
56:24
So seeing the abomination of desolation standing in a Jewish temple makes no sense, none whatsoever.
56:31
What is being referred to here then is this man of lawlessness arising within the visible church proclaiming himself to be
56:40
God. And I would note, TBN, God TV, and other so -called
56:48
Christian television stations are well prepared to embrace him and think that this is
56:55
Jesus in the flesh when it's not. And too many Christians don't know their Bible and are gonna fall for it, okay?
57:02
So when we see this, here's where there's parts of this that deal with 70
57:07
AD and parts that deal with what's coming. Let the one who is in the housetop not go down and take what's in his house.
57:14
Let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days, pray that your flight may not be in the winter on a
57:23
Sabbath. So here Christ is saying, when you see this happening, run away.
57:29
It's the strategy from Monty Python, Holy Grail. When you see the fierce bunny rabbit, you run away.
57:37
That's what you do. You run and you hide. And I would note that when the armies of Titus showed up in Israel and they were heading towards Jerusalem, Christians at that time, remembering the words of Christ, got out of Jerusalem.
57:51
They were not there for the siege. They had scattered and dispersed. And as a result of that, they did not die.
57:58
They lived through it. Similar then when things get this bad, if you have the ability, run.
58:04
If you want to be here when Jesus shows up on the last day, your best chance of doing that is to disappear.
58:12
That's the point that's being made here. Now I'm getting close to 60, so I don't see any point in disappearing.
58:19
So when they arrest me, I'll go, oh, no, don't kill me. You'll send me to Jesus. That sounds terrible, right?
58:27
But you get the idea. That's how bad this is going to be. So he goes on. Then there will be great tribulations, such as not been from the beginning of the world until now, no and never will be.
58:38
And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. What Christ is saying here is that this period of time,
58:47
Satan's little season, after he's unbound and all hell breaks loose, Christ himself is going to have to say, this can only go this far.
58:56
Because if it were allowed to run its course, it would result in the suicide of humanity.
59:03
Good way to think about it is that Jim Jones, remember Jim Jones? Some of you don't remember him.
59:08
You'd have to have read about him. I remember watching the stories on the news and seeing the helicopter fly over that compound in Guyana, right?
59:16
Jim Jones was an antichrist. He was a type of antichrist. And what happened to him, what happened to his followers?
59:22
They all unalive themselves. Satan, Christ says in John 8, was a murderer from the beginning, which means the whole point of what took place in the garden of Eden.
59:32
It was a murder plot. Satan himself wanted to murder humanity made in the image of God and wanted
59:37
God to be the murder weapon. It's just that simple. God said, the day you eat it, you'll surely die.
59:43
Satan said, cool, I know how to kill him. And God's going to be the one that does it. That's what
59:49
Christ reveals when he says that Satan was a murderer from the beginning. So the days that are coming,
59:54
Christ is going to cut them short because if he didn't, there would be no humans left. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short, which means there will be some of Christ's elect on the last day when
01:00:07
Jesus returns. Then if anyone says to you, look, behold the Christ, the anointed one, or there he is, do not believe it.
01:00:19
For false Christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
01:00:28
Now, this then shows a slight turn in an intensity of things. Right now, there are false
01:00:34
Christs and there are false prophets running around, but the signs and wonders they perform are stupid.
01:00:40
They are just dumb, like Todd White, lengthening legs. People claiming healing for invisible diseases that nobody can verify.
01:00:48
I always point out that the miracles today being performed by the so -called prophets is the equivalent of this.
01:00:54
Ooh, look, I can pull my hand out here. Isn't that neat? Ah, it's a miracle, right? But here's the thing.
01:01:00
There's a day coming when they will be able to perform real miracles. And just this past week, I found a group of NAR guys talking about what they intend to do on the day of Pentecost, 2033.
01:01:15
Work with me here. Now, they could be just delusional, but I do think it's interesting. What their intention to do, 2033, the day of Pentecost, will be the 2 ,000 -year anniversary of the day of Pentecost.
01:01:29
And so their intention on the day of Pentecost is to call down fire from heaven as a sign to the world of the truth of Christianity.
01:01:40
And when I read that, my jaw hit the floor because the book of Revelation says that these false prophets would be able to call down fire from heaven.
01:01:48
Now, I'm not saying that's gonna happen on Pentecost, 2033. The text says, though, that that will happen at some point.
01:01:59
So that's on the board. It's part of the strategy. You know it ahead of time. And watch what Christ says.
01:02:05
They will perform great signs and wonders so as to lead Australia, if possible, even the elect. And then
01:02:10
Jesus says these things. See, I've told you beforehand. You know what's coming.
01:02:19
So when they start doing these undeniable miracles, I can tell you how this is going to go down if I'm alive for when it happens because I have no clue when this is gonna happen.
01:02:31
I don't know what the timeline is. The Holy Trinity has not told me. And I always just work in marketing and the management never clues me in on times and dates and stuff like that.
01:02:40
But I can tell you how this is gonna go down if I'm alive. These guys are gonna pull down fire from heaven.
01:02:46
It'll be undeniable miracle. Michael Brown will come to their defense and say, see, this is true.
01:02:52
You can't deny that this is God. I'm gonna go on YouTube and say, Jesus said that this was going to happen.
01:02:58
He warned us beforehand. And therefore, you should not be listening to these people because they are deceivers sent by Satan to deceive the elect, if possible.
01:03:06
And then I will be branded once again as a hypercritic and as somebody who's dividing the body of Christ in nonsense like this.
01:03:14
And if it's not me, it'll be somebody else. You get the point, right? Christ says, if they say he's in the wilderness, don't believe it.
01:03:22
If they say he's in the inner room, don't go. The point here is this, is that when the man of lawlessness shows up claiming to be
01:03:30
God, it's not gonna fit. It's not gonna match, okay? Somebody's gonna get on Christian television and say, we're going to see
01:03:38
Jesus and he's in the Nigerian wilderness and he's set up some tents and we're all going to see him and he's gonna come out and reveal the word to us.
01:03:47
And you sit there and go, that's not how Jesus comes back. That doesn't even sound right.
01:03:54
Well, we've got news for you. Jesus is in the green room at Saddleback Church and he's gonna make an appearance for five minutes and come out and talk to everybody.
01:04:04
That's not how this works. Okay? Jesus says as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the son of man.
01:04:15
If you have to ask yourself, is that Jesus? Because it doesn't seem to make sense that that would be
01:04:22
Jesus. If you have to ask that, it isn't, right? Nobody's gonna sit there scratching their heads going, is that Jesus coming back now?
01:04:30
Everybody's gonna know. So as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the son of man wherever the corpse is, there the vultures gather.
01:04:38
You see a bunch of vultures circling overhead. You know there's a corpse, right? Okay, that's the point. And then he continues.
01:04:45
Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the heaven and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
01:04:57
So there's a day coming in this time period where you wake up on a
01:05:04
Thursday morning. I always think it's a Thursday, right? You wake up on a Thursday morning and you go outside, it's nine o 'clock in the morning and it's summer.
01:05:14
You'll go outside and you go, where's the sun? Why is it still night? And you look up and there's no stars.
01:05:26
What's going on? Answer, Christ is now on his way.
01:05:31
He'll be here in five minutes. That's the point, okay? You ever, when I was growing up, my mom would sometimes have to stop by the grocery store and have to pick up a few things, right?
01:05:41
And every single time she'd say, I'm just gonna be a few minutes. She never was, okay? And my mother would always show up at a time in an hour we didn't expect her.
01:05:52
Similar idea here, okay? So in those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the heaven, the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
01:06:00
By the way, when this happens, all over the planet Earth, every media outlet, all the YouTube channels are gonna go berserk, right?
01:06:08
But when they are all freaking out, we're gonna go, yes. Then we'll appear in heaven, the sign of the son of man, and then all the tribes of the
01:06:16
Earth will mourn and they will see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call.
01:06:25
No, not a secret rapture, loud trumpet call. They will gather his elect from the four winds from one end of the heaven to the other.
01:06:33
Thessalonians, our epistle text, verse Thessalonians four says it this way. We don't want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
01:06:45
You'll note that we all lose people along the way. Christ continues to tarry. We all go by the way of everybody before us.
01:06:52
We all eventually die. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
01:07:00
For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, we will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
01:07:08
The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God and the dead in Christ will rise first.
01:07:18
And this is what we're supposed to get to, right? And here's the thing. If you don't make it there physically because you die, you get sick or something like that, your body expires, don't worry.
01:07:34
It says Christ is gonna bring you back with him. And if you make it to the very end, because there will be some who do, then rejoice because you know that's the goal.
01:07:45
The one who endures to the end will be saved. And you endure to the end, all the way to the end of your life, and Christ will bring you back.
01:07:53
Or you endure until the very end of the world, and Christ will raise you after he first raises those who have died in Christ first.
01:08:00
And so then here's what it says. The Lord himself will descend with a cry, with the trumpet of God, the dead in Christ will rise, and then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the
01:08:10
Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord, therefore encourage one another.
01:08:17
And here's where we recognize something. At the end of every military mission, there is truly an end of the operation.
01:08:27
When the planes land, the troops come home, or something to that effect, right?
01:08:34
And the operation is finished. And always and again, military men encourage each other by saying,
01:08:40
I'll see you on the other side. Or those who have faith, they'll say something like this before they go into the operation.
01:08:47
Godspeed. Godspeed. And here we see the end of the operation. We will finally see
01:08:54
Christ, the one who has bled for us, died for us. We will see his scars.
01:09:00
We will see the smile that he has and the joy that he has in being reunited with all of his children.
01:09:11
And that's the point. So brothers and sisters, you are ready. You will not be left behind.
01:09:20
You believe in Christ. He has done it all for you. He has conquered. He has told us what is coming.
01:09:28
We've seen the map. We know how the operation goes. And here's the truth of the matter is, the details of the operation are terrible.
01:09:36
They're harrowing. And according to what's going to happen, it's very clear that many
01:09:42
Christians are gonna lose their lives. Maybe even some of you. But here's the thing.
01:09:51
We will all gather together in the air at the end.
01:09:58
And so brothers and sisters, Christ has prepared you. He has bled and died for you.
01:10:03
He's forgiven you. He's given you life. He's washed away your sins. And he's told you what's coming.
01:10:09
So God's speed will see you on the other side. In the name of Jesus, amen.
01:10:18
We rise for the operatory. Let us pray for the whole
01:11:30
Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. Father in heaven, give your church steadfast resolve and a joyful spirit as we engage in works of mercy and love.
01:11:40
Lead us to remember that we are your workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which you prepared beforehand for us to do.
01:11:47
Grant us humility that we would not boast in works, but only in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
01:11:53
Lord, in your mercy. Gracious God, heal the divisions among your people. Curb all sinful ambition.
01:12:00
Silence the desires of our sinful flesh. And grant us hearts eager to be reconciled with each other in Christian love.
01:12:06
That all people will know we are your disciples. Lord, in your mercy. Almighty God, bless all in authority with wisdom and temperance.
01:12:15
Protect our police, firefighters, and those who serve in the armed forces from harm and danger, that peace may be established in our lifetime according to your gracious will.
01:12:25
Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Gracious Lord, have compassion on all who are afflicted in body and soul.
01:12:32
Especially today do we lift before you Annie, Angela, Dawn, Debra, Evan, John, Marilyn, Michaela, Rudy, Marilyn, John, Paula, Arlen, Luis, Leon, Robin, Roger, Cheryl, and Sheila.
01:12:47
We pray for Jeff, Rachel, David, Gloria, Haley, the Hundley family,
01:12:52
Anne, Jonathan, Cricket, Miranda, Stephanie, Andrew, Angela, and Norbert.
01:12:58
We pray for Heather, Pat, Doug, and Melissa. We pray for Gilman as well as those who mourn.
01:13:05
Especially today do we lift before you the family of Victoria Rumbaya. Grant comfort to all whom we've prayed.
01:13:12
Healing according to your will. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Merciful God, bless all who partake in the
01:13:18
Holy Eucharist this day. That in Jesus's body and blood they would receive forgiveness of sins unto eternal life.
01:13:24
Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Oh Lord, Heavenly Father, we gratefully remember the sufferings and death of your dear son,
01:13:32
Jesus Christ, for our salvation. Rejoicing in his victorious resurrection from the dead, we draw strength from his ascension before you.
01:13:40
Where he ever stands for us as our own high priest. Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the lamb and his kingdom which has no end.
01:13:49
Graciously receive our prayer. Deliver and preserve us. For to you alone we give all glory, honor, and worship.
