Today's Scripture: Exodus 7-8
- 00:16
- Good Saturday morning, people of faith. We're in Exodus chapters five and six this morning.
- 00:23
- And today we're looking at the first appearance of Moses and Aaron before Pharaoh.
- 00:32
- Starting in chapter five, it says, Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, thus says the
- 00:38
- Lord God of Israel, let my people go that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.
- 00:44
- And Pharaoh said, who is the Lord that I should obey his voice to let
- 00:50
- Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go. And what we're going to look at this morning is when you have a promise from God, it's certainly a sure thing.
- 01:06
- But what about in the middle time in between? Pharaoh does not know
- 01:14
- God and his heart is hard and becoming harder towards the
- 01:20
- Lord. And he responds later on in chapter five by making the
- 01:26
- Israelites go and get their own straw for the bricks that they were to make without changing the quota for the number of bricks.
- 01:34
- So he increased their workload in response to the command that the
- 01:41
- Lord had given to let his people go. So this goes back to chapter three, where in chapter three, the
- 01:50
- Lord tells Moses to tell the elders of the Israelites, I have heard your cry and I will bring you up out of the land of Egypt.
- 02:02
- And eventually, he says to a land flowing with milk and honey, that promise is a sure thing that will happen.
- 02:12
- We have the benefit of over 3000 years later being able to look at the miraculous deliverance that these
- 02:21
- Israelites had. But in that moment when Moses and Aaron go in and Pharaoh's heart is hardening with every command that the
- 02:32
- Lord is giving and he's taking that punishment out on his on the people of Israel.
- 02:42
- What do you do? We have this sort of thing happening in our lives today.
- 02:50
- We're told that our afflictions are momentary and light, considering the eternal weight of glory, that to be compared with what eternity is going to be like, however long we live under affliction in our lives with loved ones passing away or sick and not getting well.
- 03:18
- We still have this eternal promise. So how are we to respond?
- 03:27
- Know this today and take comfort and hope in this, that every promise of the
- 03:34
- Lord is a sure thing. And it was a sure thing for the Israelites that they would be delivered into a land flowing with milk and honey, just as it is a sure thing that your afflictions will be ultimately considered light and momentary and that God is using all of these things to to increase his glory.
- 04:02
- And we should take glory in that and comfort in that. Let's pray today.
- 04:10
- Heavenly Father, we look upon the plight of the
- 04:15
- Israelites and knowing that you heard them and yet their afflictions seem to increase even with the promise of deliverance that you gave.
- 04:27
- Help us to rest in your promise of deliverance, no matter what may or may not come in our lives.
- 04:34
- Let us walk with you and trust you even this day. It's in your son's name,
- 04:40
- Jesus, we pray. Amen. Have an excellent day, people of faith.
