00:08
Judges 11 Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, but he was the son of a harlot, and Gilead became the father of Jephthah.
00:19
And Gilead's wife bore him sons. And when his wife's sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him,
00:26
You shall not have an inheritance in our father's house, for you are the son of another woman. So Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob.
00:35
And worthless fellows gathered themselves about Jephthah, and they went out with him. Now it happened after a while that the sons of Ammon fought against Israel.
00:44
So it happened that as the sons of Ammon fought against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get
00:50
Jephthah from the land of Tob. And they said to Jephthah, Come, and be our chief, that we may fight against the sons of Ammon.
00:58
Then Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did you not hate me and drive me from my father's house?
01:04
So why have you come to me now when you are in distress? And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, For this reason we have now returned to you, that you may go with us, and fight with the sons of Ammon, and become head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
01:19
So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, If you take me back to fight against the sons of Ammon, and Yahweh gives them up to me, will
01:27
I become your head? And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Yahweh is witness between us, surely we will do as you have said.
01:36
Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them.
01:42
And Jephthah spoke all his words before Yahweh at Mizpah. And Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the sons of Ammon, saying,
01:51
What is between you and me, that you have come to me to fight against my land? Then the king of the sons of Ammon said to the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land when they came up from Egypt, from the
02:04
Arnon as far as the Jabbok in the Jordan, so now return them peaceably. But Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the sons of Ammon.
02:13
And they said to him, Thus says Jephthah, Israel did not take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the sons of Ammon.
02:21
For when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea and came to Kadesh, then
02:27
Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, Please, let us pass through your land.
02:33
But the king of Edom would not listen. And they also sent to the king of Moab, but he was not willing.
02:39
So Israel remained at Kadesh. Then they went through the wilderness and around the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and came to the east toward the sunrise of the land of Moab.
02:50
And they camped beyond the Arnon, but they did not enter the territory of Moab. For the
02:55
Arnon was the border of Moab. And Israel sent messengers to Sion, king of the
03:01
Amorites, the king of Heshbon. And Israel said to him, Please, let us pass through your land to our place.
03:08
But Sion did not believe Israel to allow them to pass through his territory. So Sion gathered all his people and camped in Jahaz and fought with Israel.
03:18
Then Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave Sion and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they struck them down.
03:25
So Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country. So they possessed all the territory of the
03:33
Amorites, from the Arnon as far as the Jabbok and from the wilderness as far as the Jordan.
03:39
So now Yahweh, the God of Israel, dispossessed the Amorites from before his people
03:44
Israel. Are you then to possess it? Do you not possess what Chemosh, your
03:49
God, gives you to possess? So whatever Yahweh, our God, has taken possession of before us, we will possess it.
03:57
So now, are you any better than Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever strive with Israel, or did he ever fight against them?
04:06
While Israel lived in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aror, and its towns, and in all the cities that are on the banks of the
04:13
Arnon, three hundred years. Why did you not deliver them for yourself within that time?
04:19
I therefore have not sinned against you, but you are doing me evil by making war against me.
04:26
May Yahweh, the judge, judge today between the sons of Israel and the sons of Ammon.
04:32
But the king of the sons of Ammon did not listen to the words which Jephthah sent him. Now the spirit of Yahweh came upon Jephthah, so that he passed through Gilead and Manasseh.
04:43
Then he passed through Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he went on to the sons of Ammon.
04:49
Then Jephthah made a vow to Yahweh and said, If you will indeed give the sons of Ammon into my hand, then it shall be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when
05:00
I return in peace from the sons of Ammon, it shall be Yahweh's, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.
05:07
So Jephthah crossed over to the sons of Ammon to fight against them, and Yahweh gave them into his hand.
05:14
And he struck them with a very great slaughter from Aror, to the entrance of Minneth, twenty cities, and as far as Abel -Kerimim.
05:22
So the sons of Ammon were subdued before the sons of Israel. Then Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, and, behold, his daughter was coming out to meet him with tambourines and with dancing.
05:34
Now she was his one and only child, besides her he had no son or daughter.
05:40
So it happened that when he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, Alas, my daughter, you have brought me very low, and you are among those who trouble me.
05:50
But I have opened my mouth to vow to Yahweh, and I cannot take it back. So she said to him,
05:56
My father, you have opened your mouth to vow to Yahweh. Do to me according to what has gone out of your mouth, since Yahweh has avenged you of your enemies, the sons of Ammon.
06:08
Then she said to her father, Let this thing be done for me, let me alone two months, that I may go to the mountains and weep because of my virginity,
06:17
I and my companions. Then he said, Go. So he sent her away for two months, and she went with her companions and wept on the mountains because of her virginity.
06:29
And it happened at the end of two months that she returned to her father, and he did to her according to the vow which he had made, and she did not know a man.
06:38
Thus it became a custom in Israel, that the daughters of Israel went yearly to commemorate the daughter of Jephthah the
06:45
Gileadite four days in the year. Acts 15
06:53
Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brothers, Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.
07:03
And when Paul and Barnabas had not a little dissension and debate with them, the brothers determined that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders concerning this issue.
07:15
Therefore, being sent on their way by the church, they were passing through both Phoenicia and Samaria, recounting in detail the conversion of the
07:24
Gentiles, and were bringing great joy to all the brothers. When they arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all that God had done with them.
07:36
But some of the sect of the Pharisees who had believed stood up, saying, It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
07:46
Both the apostles and the elders came together to look into this matter. And after there had been much debate,
07:52
Peter stood up and said to them, Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the
08:00
Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God, who knows the heart, testified to them, giving them the
08:08
Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us. And He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.
08:16
Now therefore, why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?
08:26
But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are.
08:33
And all the multitude kept silent, and they were listening to Barnabas and Paul as they were relating what signs and wonders
08:40
God had done through them among the Gentiles. Now after they had stopped speaking, James answered, saying,
08:46
Brothers, listen to me. Simeon has related how God first concerned Himself about taking from among the
08:53
Gentiles a people for His name. And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,
09:01
After these things I will return, and I will rebuild the fallen booth of David, and I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, so that the rest of mankind may seek the
09:12
Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name, says the Lord who makes these things known from long ago.
09:20
Therefore I judge that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what is strangled, and from blood.
09:35
For from ancient generations Moses has those who preach him in every city, since he is read in the synagogues every
09:42
Sabbath. Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them,
09:50
Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers, to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, and they sent this letter by them.
09:59
The apostles and the brothers who were elders, to the brothers in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia who were from the
10:06
Gentiles, Greetings. Since we have heard that some of us, to whom we gave no instruction, have gone out and disturbed you with their words, unsettling your souls.
10:17
It seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to select men to send to you with our beloved
10:22
Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
10:28
Therefore, we have sent Judas and Silas, and they themselves will report the same things by the word of mouth.
10:36
For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials, that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from sexual immorality, from which, if you keep yourselves, you will do well.
10:53
Farewell. So when they were sent away, they went down to Antioch, and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter.
11:02
And when they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement. And both Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with a lengthy message.
11:14
And after they had spent time there, they were sent away from the brothers in peace to those who had sent them. But it seemed good to Silas to remain there.
11:22
But Paul and Barnabas spent a long time in Antioch, teaching and preaching with many others also the word of the
11:28
Lord. Now after some days, Paul said to Barnabas, Let us return and visit the brothers in every city in which we proclaim the word of the
11:37
Lord, and see how they are. And Barnabas wanted to take John, called Mark, along with them also.
11:44
But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along, who had deserted them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work.
11:52
And there was such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another. And Barnabas took
11:57
Mark with him, and sailed away to Cyprus. But Paul chose Silas and left, being committed by the brothers to the grace of the
12:05
Lord. And he was traveling through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.
12:15
Jeremiah 24 After Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had taken away into exile
12:21
Jeconiah the son of Jeholakim king of Judah, and the officials of Judah with the craftsmen and smiths from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon, Yahweh showed me, behold, two baskets of figs set before the temple of Yahweh.
12:37
One basket had very good figs, like first ripe figs, and the other basket had very rotten figs which could not be eaten due to rottenness.
12:46
Then Yahweh said to me, What do you see, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs, the good figs, very good, and the rotten figs, very rotten, which cannot be eaten due to rottenness.
12:58
Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel, Like these good figs, so I will recognize as good the exiles of Judah, whom
13:09
I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans. For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will return them to this land, and I will build them up and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not uproot them.
13:24
I will give them a heart to know me, for I am Yahweh, and they will be my people, and I will be their
13:30
God, for they will return to me with their whole heart. But like the rotten figs which cannot be eaten due to rottenness, indeed, thus says
13:39
Yahweh, so I will give over Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and the ones who inhabit the land of Egypt.
13:49
I will give them over to be a terror and an evil for all the kingdoms of the earth, as a reproach and a proverb, a byword and a curse in all places where I will banish them.
14:01
I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence upon them, until they come to an end from being upon the land which
14:09
I gave to them and their fathers. Mark 10.
14:17
In standing up, he went from there to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Crowds gathered around him again, and according to his custom, he once more began to teach them.
14:28
And some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing him, and began to question him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife.
14:36
And he answered and said to them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.
14:46
But Jesus said to them, Because of your hardness of heart he wrote for you this commandment.
14:52
But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh, so they are no longer two, but one flesh.
15:06
What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. And in the house the disciples began questioning him about this again.
15:15
And he said to them, Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.
15:22
And if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery.
15:28
And they were bringing children to him so that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
15:33
But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, Permit the children to come to me, do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
15:45
Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.
15:52
And he took them in his arms and began blessing them, laying his hands on them. And as he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to him and knelt before him and began asking him,
16:03
Good teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said to him,
16:09
Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments.
16:15
Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud.
16:22
Honor your father and mother. And he said to him, Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.
16:28
And looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, One thing you lack, go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
16:39
And come, follow me. But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.
16:48
And Jesus, looking around, said to his disciples, How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God.
16:56
And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God.
17:05
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
17:12
And they were even more astonished, saying to him, Then who can be saved? Looking at them,
17:18
Jesus said, With people it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God.
17:26
Peter began saying to him, Behold, we have left everything and followed you. Jesus said,
17:32
Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or farms, for my sake and for the gospel's sake, except one who will receive one hundred times as much now in the present age, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and farms, along with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.
17:58
But many who are first will be last, and the last first. And they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them, and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful.
18:11
And again he took the twelve aside, and began to tell them what was going to happen to him. Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the
18:20
Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priest and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and will deliver him over to the
18:27
Gentiles, and they will mock him, and spit on him, and flog him, and kill him, and three days later he will rise again.
18:35
Then James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, came up to Jesus, saying to him, Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.
18:45
And he said to them, What do you want me to do for you? And they said to him, Grant that we may sit, one on your right, and one on your left, in your glory.
18:55
But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which
19:04
I am baptized? And they said to him, We are able. And Jesus said to them,
19:10
The cup that I drink you shall drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which
19:15
I am baptized. But to sit on my right or on my left, this is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.
19:24
And hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with James and John. And calling them to himself,
19:31
Jesus said to them, You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
19:41
But it is not this way among you. But whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all.
19:52
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
19:59
Then they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples, in a large crowd a blind beggar named
20:07
Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road. And when he heard that it was Jesus the
20:13
Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.
20:20
And many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, son of David, have mercy on me.
20:28
And Jesus stopped and said, Call him here. So they called the blind man, saying to him,
20:33
Take courage, get up, he is calling for you. And throwing off his outer garment, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
20:41
And Jesus answered him and said, What do you want me to do for you? And the blind man said to him,
20:47
Rabboni, I want to regain my sight. And Jesus said to him, Go, your faith has saved you.
