00:15
Welcome to another installment of Fighting for the Faith. My name is Chris Roseborough, I am your servant in Jesus Christ, and this is the channel that compares what people are saying in the name of God to the
00:26
Word of God. Now, back when the podcast was in daily production, the
00:32
Fighting for the Faith podcast, you can find all the archives, it's a historical podcast at the moment, my hope is to bring it back in a different iteration to where I can work the
00:42
YouTube channel along with the podcast. The idea being is I don't really want the two to have the same content, but I want them to complement each other.
00:54
And so all of that being said, still working on the final tweaks, but I think
00:59
I have a solution that will bring the podcast back, not on a daily basis, but several times a week, so that it'll complement what we're doing here on the
01:08
YouTube channel. But all of that being said, so back in the day when the podcast was a daily production item, five days a week,
01:16
I would from time to time have episodes I would call my think -along episodes.
01:21
And I've been working on a think -along episode for a while, my hope was that it wouldn't be a think -along episode, that it would be something different.
01:30
But what I'd like you to do is to think along with me, if you would, because over and again when we look at the flagrant and obvious false teaching, greedy false prophets, and things like that in the charismatic movement, and Michael Brown's role, we call him the apostle of obfuscation, over and again, people like me are casually dismissed, oh, you're just a cessationist.
01:59
And so your problem is that you're quenching the spirit, and you're despising prophecy and all this kind of stuff.
02:07
The reality is that that's not a correct analysis at all, and these are just words designed to shut down thinking, and a good biblical evaluation of what's going on.
02:18
It's kind of sad to me that the portion of the visible Church, and I'm using
02:23
Church in the widest sense here, that is most dedicated to the gifts of the
02:31
Holy Spirit and signs and wonders and stuff like this, that the one thing that seems to be missing is holiness, and I mean in a true sense.
02:40
In fact, that's a very foreign concept. But the other thing that's lost in spades is the concept of truth.
02:47
The concept of truth. And so what we're going to do today, we're going to do a think -along episode. It's been a while since I've done one of these, and we're going to foil using
02:56
Michael Brown. But I could have picked anybody, so it's not like this is not an episode really dedicated to Michael Brown, that's not the point.
03:06
It's dedicated to a consideration of what it is that Christ and the
03:12
Scriptures say regarding the Holy Spirit, and what's missing today. Because over and again, I've noticed that within the charismatic movement in the
03:20
NAR, there is an overt culture that is suspicious of the written
03:29
Word of God, and an overt downplaying of it in favor of experiences.
03:36
And this is a dangerous era. This is just not even biblical at all. But what we're going to do, let's pull up the desktop, and we are going to start in Scripture.
03:49
And so, let me pull up my Bible, and what I did, if you want to understand what it is that you're looking at here,
03:56
I went into 1 John 2, verse 21, and then
04:01
I went through John 16, 15, and I think all the way back to 14, and I put it in reverse order.
04:10
In the Gospel of John, chapters 13, 14, 15, and 16, you have this discourse by Christ that is really worth the read in light of today's what's going on.
04:20
But I put it in reverse order, because sometimes what ends up happening is that you've read things in Scripture before, and you're tempted to sit there and go, yeah, yeah, yeah,
04:31
I've read that. I already know that. And so you just sit there, why do I need to review that again? It's like, you know, I don't go back to eighth grade and study fractions.
04:40
I don't, by the way. But see, the Word of God's not like that. And so sometimes if you have that kind of an attitude towards it, the best thing to do may be to find a way to kind of break out of that, maybe read another good
04:55
English translation. And I almost feel like we need to do a follow -up episode to the one we did regarding the
05:01
KJV -only people. I don't have any problem with this, if somebody wants to study the KJV. It's when they add the
05:06
O, the only, now we've got a problem. All right, we've got a major problem. And talk about, you know, maybe like the message paraphrase and the passion translation and the mirror
05:16
Bible. None of these are sound at all, and they're not going to teach you the truth. And so those are
05:21
Bibles that you want to avoid like the plague, because there's a clear theological bias and mixing of things that doesn't give you a careful study of what the
05:33
Word of God actually says. All that being said, we're going to consider a topic here. I've hinted at this in a previous episode, but I want to flesh it out a little bit more now.
05:42
Again, this is a think -along episode. So the Apostle John writes in the
05:49
Epistle of 1 John 2 verse 21, I write to you not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
06:03
And so the idea here is that God is not like a man that He would lie.
06:08
God doesn't lie. In fact, you know, if I consider one of the prophecies of Balaam, let's see if I can hunt this down real quick.
06:18
We'll do a quick little search here. God, and we're going to throw in a little modifier, and lie.
06:25
And I'm not going to look in the Old Testament, I'm going to look in the Torah. And let's see here.
06:32
It's the story of Balaam. God is not a man that He should lie. That's right. Or a son of man that He should change His mind.
06:38
Has He said and He will not do it? Or has He spoken and He will not fulfill it?
06:44
That's an important text, Numbers 23, 23, 19, Numbers 23, 19.
06:51
God is not a man that He should lie. Or is He a son of man that He should change His mind?
06:57
Has He said and He will not do it? Or has He spoken and He will not fulfill it?
07:04
So you get the idea here. This is, God doesn't lie. So coming back to the collection of passages
07:12
I've put together here, John writes, I wrote to you not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
07:22
No lie is of the truth. So working backwards then,
07:27
John chapter 16, verses 12 to 14, talking about the
07:33
Holy Spirit. It's vital that we consider what Christ says the
07:38
Holy Spirit would do. Because you're going to note that in this discourse,
07:44
Christ doesn't say the Holy Spirit that when He comes is going to make you cluck like a chicken, get on all fours and bark like a dog, nor is
07:51
He going to have you speak in gibberish uncontrollably or shake and fall to the ground or anything like that.
07:58
Listen to what Christ says that the Holy Spirit would do. Still, I have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now,
08:05
Jesus says. When the Spirit of truth, the Spirit, tanumates alatheos, alatheos, alatheos, yeah, the
08:19
Spirit of truth, when He comes. And see, that's the thing. The Holy Spirit is the
08:24
Spirit of truth. Not of lies, false doctrine, false practice, of heresy or of error.
08:33
God is not a man that He should lie. So the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, not error.
08:42
The Holy Spirit is not the Spirit of lies, okay? He will guide you, and watch this, the work of the
08:49
Holy Spirit, He's going to guide you into what? Into all truth. He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever
08:56
He hears, He'll speak, He'll declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you.
09:04
So the Spirit of truth, the Holy Spirit, will guide you into all truth, and He will glorify
09:10
Christ. Now over again, I've noted that the charismatic movement has a really weird emphasis.
09:19
The emphasis is on the Holy Spirit, but here Christ says the Holy Spirit would glorify
09:25
Jesus. Not drawing attention to Himself, but glorify Christ. It's one of my seminary prophets, and people
09:32
I've listened to over the years have rightly pointed out that the Holy Spirit is the
09:38
PR guy, He's the PR guy for Jesus. In fact, let me do this,
09:44
I'm going to open up my web browser real quick, and we're going to do a quick hunt on Amazon .com,
09:49
shall we? On Amazon .com, we are going to be looking for the
09:56
Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, shy member of the
10:03
Trinity. Okay, shy member of the Trinity. All right, if you have not read this book, we're going to put a link to it down below.
10:11
I purchased it back in 2015. Holy Spirit, the shy member of the Trinity. And this is worth the read, it's a tiny little book, but worth the read, because it makes the emphasis, it puts the emphasis what
10:26
Christ says that the Holy Spirit would do. And so you'll note that what goes on in so much of the charismatic movement today, it's wingnut wackerdoodle, right?
10:38
And it's nothing according to what Christ said that the Holy Spirit would do, and what did he say that he would do?
10:43
Guide you into all truth, he will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
10:49
He's going to glorify Christ. Now, in this regard, everybody recognizes that the Day of Pentecost is recorded for us in Acts chapter 2.
10:56
This is when the Holy Spirit shows up, and when Christ fulfills the promise and sends the promise of the
11:03
Father, which is the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit, when he shows up, what ends up happening is that those who were present, they began to speak in other languages.
11:17
That's what they began to do. In fact, let's see, and they were all filled with the
11:23
Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other tongues, glossis. And now there were dwelling in Jerusalem, devout men from under every heaven, from under the heaven, and at the sound of the multitude came together they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.
11:38
These are actually human languages. The gibberish that's being passed off as the gift of tongues today, it's not at all a gift of tongues.
11:46
And so you'll note then, what ends up happening is that they're attracted to what's going on, and they are then given a sermon by the
11:56
Apostle Peter. And Peter proclaims Christ, and talks about the fact that they had delivered
12:06
Jesus over to death, and that he was raised from the dead, and that they were witnesses of this fact, and even invokes the
12:13
Old Testament, and how Christ fulfilled those prophecies. And so Peter winds down his sermon, says,
12:20
Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us today, being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God has sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the
12:35
Messiah, the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. This Jesus God raised up, and of this we are all witnesses, being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the
12:47
Father the promise of the Holy Spirit. Again, so note, the Holy Spirit shows up on the day of Pentecost.
12:53
And so, over and again in the Charismatic Movement, the claim is that if you are just an ordinary
13:01
Christian, you know, you believe in Jesus, you've been baptized, and you attend church services with regularity, well, you're missing a component, in that you need the baptism of the
13:12
Holy Spirit. But Scripture's clear. Everybody who is a believer, baptized in the name of the
13:22
Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, they already have the Holy Spirit. And so, claiming that we need to have something that we're missing doesn't make any sense.
13:30
So, you know, and so the Holy Spirit shows up, this was the promise of the Father, and Christ is the one who said that, you know, he was going to, you know, send the
13:39
Holy Spirit himself, and so he has poured out this day as you yourselves are seeing, for David did not ascend to the heavens, but he himself says, the
13:46
Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool. So let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made him,
13:54
Christ, both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified. And we're going to get into this in a second, in fact, let me show it to you now.
14:05
Christ, in chapter 16 of the Gospel of John, talks about what the
14:11
Holy Spirit would do. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away, if I do not go away, the
14:17
Helper will not come to you, but if I go, I'll send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment, concerning sin because they do not believe in me.
14:29
So you're going to note here, Christ says that when the Holy Spirit comes, he would convict the world of sin and unbelief, concerning righteousness because I go to the
14:37
Father, and you'll see me no longer, concerning judgment because the ruler of this world is judged. So the
14:43
Holy Spirit, according to Christ, is the Spirit of truth, he will lead people into all truth, he will glorify
14:52
Jesus, he will convict the world of sin and unbelief and judgment.
14:58
So here in Acts chapter 2, Peter no sooner finishes his sermon, and it says that when they heard this, the people who were there, the crowd that was there on the day of Pentecost, they were cut to the heart.
15:10
They were convicted of their sin, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, brothers, what shall we do?
15:17
So here we see the Holy Spirit doing the thing that Christ said he would do, convict the world of sin and unbelief. So Peter said to them, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you'll receive the gift of the
15:28
Holy Spirit. So these penitent believers, the first thing they do is they go into the waters of baptism, they're baptized in the name of the
15:36
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and Peter, what he says is right, they now have the
15:43
Holy Spirit. This is just how this works. For the promise is for you, it's for your children, for all who are far off, everyone whom the
15:50
Lord God will call to himself. And with many other words, Peter bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, save yourselves from this crooked generation.
15:58
To those who received his word, they were baptized, and there were added that day about 3 ,000 souls.
16:05
So do they have the Holy Spirit? Yeah, these brand new minted
16:11
Christians, fresh out of the waters of baptism, believers in Jesus Christ, repentant of their sins, they have the
16:19
Holy Spirit. And this is evidenced by the thing that I showed you earlier that Christ said the
16:25
Spirit of truth would do, that's the Holy Spirit, he will guide you into all truth.
16:31
So watch what happens next. So the newly minted Christians, they devoted themselves to the
16:37
Apostles' teaching. The Holy Spirit was guiding them into all truth. And by the way, we have the same apostolic teaching.
16:45
It's recorded for us in the written New Testament. And so you'll note that rather than barking like dogs, clucking like chickens, falling down as though slain in the
16:55
Spirit, any of that nonsense, what are these new Christians marked by?
17:02
First, they were convicted of their sin and their unbelief. Then given the gift of the Holy Spirit, they devoted themselves to the
17:10
Apostles' teaching. Devoted themselves. They didn't take it loosely. They were driven into a deep understanding and hearing of the message of the
17:21
Apostles, which Christ says are his words, right? Let's kind of go on then with the rest of this.
17:26
So the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, guide you into all truth, glorify
17:33
Christ, convict you of sin and unbelief, you betcha. And then when the
17:40
Helper comes, this is John 15, notice I'm doing this out of order. When the Helper comes, that's the Holy Spirit, whom I will send to you from the
17:46
Father, the Spirit of truth, there it is again, twice within a span of one chapter,
17:52
Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth. The Spirit of truth who proceeds from the
17:58
Father, he will bear witness about me. In the book of Revelation, it says the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
18:08
Testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. And you will also bear witness because you have been with me from the beginning, right?
18:16
And then, you know, kind of a little bit of a note here along these lines in the early part of this discourse in John 14,
18:22
Jesus said, if anyone loves me, he will keep, tereo means to guard, he will guard my word.
18:28
And my Father will love him, we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words.
18:36
And the words that you hear, they are not mine, but the Father's who sent me. So keeping the words of Christ, keeping
18:44
God's word, that's a big deal, guarding it. And the Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth, not errors.
18:51
God is not a man that he should lie. He's not a man that he would change his mind, that he speaks and he will fulfill the things that he says.
18:59
Yet the charismatic movement is fraught with people who undermine, tacitly ignore, overtly act contrary to the written word of God.
19:16
Now I'm going to show you another text here in this regard, because I always like to point out that both
19:23
Peter and Paul, as they are finishing their course, getting ready to die, both of them do the exact same thing.
19:30
They point us to the written word of God. Again, this is a think -along episode. So like I said, we're kind of front -loading here.
19:36
Why did I put Paul? Second Paul. Roseberry, you've got to wake up. Second Peter. Hang on a second here.
19:42
Second Peter. There we go. So, as Peter's getting ready to go to his death, watch what he writes.
19:52
We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
20:00
Referring to the Mount of Transfiguration. For when he received honor and glory from the Father, the voice was born to him by the majestic glory, this is my beloved
20:07
Son, with whom I am well pleased. We ourselves heard this very voice, born from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.
20:15
And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in the dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
20:25
Now notice what he calls the Bible. He calls it what? The prophetic word.
20:34
That's what the Bible is. It is the prophetic word. It is the voice of God.
20:40
It has his authority behind it. When God, when the Scripture is speaking to you,
20:46
God is speaking to you. All right? So, and Peter, as he's getting ready to die, says, pay attention to it.
20:51
It's the lamp shining in a dark place. And for how long? Until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your heart.
20:59
Knowing that, first of all, no prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own Scripture. Watch, and look at it again. Prophecy of what?
21:06
Scripture. You want a prophecy? I can tell you, the written Word of God, yeah, that's prophetic, man.
21:14
God has spoken here. No prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own interpretation. For no prophecy, again, watch what it says, no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the
21:29
Holy Spirit. And then in the context, so Peter is saying, pay attention to the prophetic word, the written
21:36
Word of God. And then he warns us about false prophets. False prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you who will secretly bring in destructive
21:46
Pharisees, even denying the Master who bought them. They'll follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.
21:53
So keep that in mind. I know I recently covered this text, but conversely then, in 2
22:00
Timothy, in chapter 3, at the very end of chapter 3, as Paul's getting ready to finish his course, he says to young Pastor Timothy, who was a pastor of the
22:10
Church of Ephesus, one of the congregations in Ephesus, he says, "...continue
22:16
in what you have learned," verse 14, "...and firmly believe, knowing from whom you learned, how from childhood you've been equated with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
22:26
All Scripture is breathed out by God, profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be equipped, complete and equipped for every good work."
22:39
So all Scripture is theanoustas. You want God to talk to you. He's talking to you in the prophetic word.
22:45
That's what Peter calls it. Paul says this is the theanoustas, it's the
22:50
God -breathed Word of God. These are what the Scriptures are. And so the
22:56
Holy Spirit doesn't lie, the Holy Spirit doesn't change his mind. And so all of that being said,
23:03
I wanted to take a look at a couple of things here. And we're going to use Michael Brown as our foil.
23:09
And again, this isn't really about Michael Brown. It's really about what's going on in the charismatic movement in the
23:18
NAR. So this is from March 5th, 2020. Michael Brown traveled to Australia, and he laid hands on Catherine Runalla.
23:32
She's the head pastor of Glory City Church in Brisbane, Australia.
23:39
And here's her accounting of what it is that we're going to see. I asked Dr. Michael Brown to release an impartation for revival.
23:47
Then the Holy Spirit crashed in and overwhelmed me. It was so unexpected. I feel to release this tonight and to have impartation services in Brisbane.
23:58
All right, so my immediate question is, is this the spirit of truth acting? The reason
24:03
I ask is because Catherine Runalla is a pastor.
24:10
She's also an apostle, at least she claims to be. And she's under the umbrella of Sheyon, of the non -existent
24:20
New Apostolic Reformation. And when we consider that then, two passages we must consider in this regard.
24:30
And the first is in 1 Corinthians 14, and the second is in 1
24:38
Timothy 2. Hang on a second here. I forgot to take something out. There we go.
24:46
1 Corinthians 14. So this is in the chapter, again, as it relates to the spiritual gifts.
24:55
Paul writes, as in all the churches of the saints, the women should keep silent in the churches. They are not permitted to speak.
25:02
They should be in submission, as the Torah also says. Now if you're sitting there going, where does the law say that?
25:08
There is no commandment that says that women should be under submission. This is a part of the curses of Genesis 3.
25:14
Pain and childbearing, and then the second one is that the woman would, her desire would be for her, would be contrary to her husband's and that he would rule over her.
25:24
This is, so this is the primary reason why women are not permitted by God to be pastors in Christ's church.
25:33
This is forbidden. The Holy Spirit has breathed this out. In fact, Peter makes it clear.
25:39
This is what? This is the prophetic word, and this doesn't come from a man's opinion.
25:47
This comes from God. That's what Peter says about the prophetic word, the scriptures. And he, in that same epistle, 2
25:54
Peter, he affirms that what Paul writes are scripture. In fact, I probably should show that to you.
26:01
If we go to, hang on a second here, I, well, hang on, I want to, let's go this way.
26:09
Yeah, there we go. And I'm going to duplicate this tab here. See, I'm thinking along, you're thinking along with me.
26:16
In 2 Peter 3, all right, the Apostle Peter, as he's, you know, kind of getting ready to finish up his course, this is parting thoughts from Peter.
26:29
Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish and at peace.
26:36
Count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given to him, as he does in all of his letters when he speaks in them of these matters.
26:48
There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and the unstable twist to their own destruction as they do the other scriptures.
26:58
Peter considers what Paul writes to be the word of God. It's part of that body that he mentioned up above in chapter 1 as the prophetic word to which you will do well to pay attention.
27:11
He refers to Paul's writings as the scripture. So that being the case then, so you're going to note that Paul says, as in all the churches of the saints, the women should keep silent in the churches.
27:24
They're not permitted to speak. They should be in submission as the Torah also says. If there's anything they desire to learn, let the master husbands at home.
27:32
It's shameful for a woman to speak in church. And then watch where he goes from this. He doesn't just end there.
27:38
It continues. He now asks a question. Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached?
27:45
If anyone thinks he is a prophet or is spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things
27:51
I'm writing to you are a command of the Lord. If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.
28:02
Now, I'm going to come back to this in a second. Just a casual reading of this.
28:09
The Apostle Paul makes it clear that it is a command of the Lord that women are to be in submission and they're not to have authority over men, that they are not to speak in the church.
28:16
This is Christ's will. Now, this doesn't mean that women can't teach others. They can, not in the context of a church service.
28:23
They are not to have authority over men. That's very clearly stated within the church.
28:30
Now, here's our second text along these lines then. And let me duplicate this tab right here.
28:37
And the next one is found in 1 Timothy 2. 1 Timothy 2. Paul writes,
28:48
Let a woman, verse 11, learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man.
28:57
Rather, she is to remain quiet. Adam was formed first. This is the reason why it's a creation issue.
29:03
Adam was not deceived. The woman was deceived and she became a transgressor. Yet, she will be saved through childbearing if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self -control.
29:12
Childbearing. If you read the writings of the early church fathers, they really believe that this is referring to the fact that we're all saved through childbearing due to the fact that Christ was born of the virgin.
29:21
You get the idea. That's what it's referring to, and that's devotionally how the ancient church understood this text.
29:28
So you'll note, a woman is not permitted to teach or to exercise authority over a man.
29:34
So now we've got a question in front of us, and here's the question. And let me now go back to this video.
29:42
Here, you see in this video, Michael Brown, in March of 2020, laying hands on a woman who is a pastor and who has authority over men.
29:55
She preaches and teaches in Christ's church, but God the Holy Spirit has said that women are not permitted to do the things that she is doing.
30:06
In this video, we have the documentation of an experience. And in this experience, she claims that the
30:15
Holy Spirit crashed in on her and overwhelmed her. And I'm going to just back the video up a little bit so you can see where this takes place.
30:23
It takes place at like, you know, a few minutes, a few seconds after this. And let's watch the experience, shall we?
30:32
Lift his face upon you, and grant you his peace. Be blessed with grace and strength, the spirit of revival, such as you've given to me,
30:43
Father. Freely I receive, freely I give. So, now my main question is, is that the
30:49
Holy Spirit? My answer would be, how can it be? How can that be the
30:55
Holy Spirit? This woman, by her offices, is in direct defiance and disobedience to clear commands of God.
31:11
You see, no prophetic word of Scripture came about as a result of the opinion of a man, but was written down as men were carried along by God the
31:20
Holy Spirit. We've got a problem here. So, here we've got an experience that contradicts by what's happening and who it's happening to, the written
31:34
Word of God. I know that God the Holy Spirit caused the Apostle Paul to write what he did in 1
31:39
Corinthians 14 and 1 Timothy 2. This is an absolute defiance of that, and Michael Brown is complicit in this.
31:51
Is this the Holy Spirit coming upon her, or is it a different spirit? Unless God lies, and he doesn't,
32:00
I have to say, by the biblical standard, this is not God the Holy Spirit that came crashing down on her.
32:06
Let me back it up again, and we'll watch a little bit more. Lord, lift his face upon you and grant you his peace.
32:13
Be blessed with grace and strength, the spirit of revival, such as you've given to me,
32:20
Father. Freely I've received, freely I give. Grace for a mighty outpouring.
32:25
It'll shake the continent, Father. May she be on the front lines of it, I pray. Jesus, stay with me.
32:35
That straight out contradicts, all of this contradicts, what God the Holy Spirit had written by the
32:42
Theanoustas inspiration of the writing of the prophetic Word of God, the Scriptures. Is that the
32:48
Holy Spirit? It can't be. It can't be. That's not the spirit of truth acting there.
32:56
That is a deceptive and deceiving spirit that is at work, and Michael Brown is complicit in it.
33:02
Now, along those lines, also, I know that this has been out for more than a month, but as far as people have noticed it, we're going to pay attention to something going on here on Cheyenne's program on God TV, and on Cheyenne's program on God TV, Cheyenne is going to claim that God is telling him that Michael Brown is an apostle.
33:31
Is that God? Is God really saying that? I don't see any...
33:36
Michael Brown's actions contradict the Word of God. He's complicit in making the
33:42
Holy Spirit out to be a liar, rather than the spirit of truth. And he's an apostle? Let's listen in.
33:49
The impartation, the cluster anointing, I believe in that, you know, I believe...
33:55
Cheyenne believes in the cluster anointing. What's that? If I could be bold,
34:01
I feel that God's called you to be an apostle. If I can be bold, I believe that God has called you to be an apostle.
34:11
Okay. All right. Let's take a look at another text, shall we? Okay. We're going to start with Acts 1.
34:21
Acts 1. Is God calling Michael Brown to be an apostle?
34:30
Yeah, I don't think so. In those days, Peter stood up. Verse 15,
34:35
Acts 1. Among the brothers, the company of the persons was an all about 120.
34:42
And he said, Brothers, the Scriptures had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David. Who did the
34:48
Holy... Speaking by the mouth of David. So who's responsible for the Old Testament? The Holy Spirit.
34:54
Spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became as a guide to those who arrested Jesus, for he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.
35:04
Now, this man acquired a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out, and he became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
35:14
And so the field was called, in their own language, Akedalma. That is the field of blood, for it is written in the book of Psalms, may his camp be desolate, and may there be no one to dwell in it, and let another take his office.
35:28
Interesting. So one of the men who have accompanied us during the time of the Lord, Jesus, went in and out among us.
35:35
So this is the qualifications for an apostle. Beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us, one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.
35:45
And they put forward to Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was also called Justice and Matthias, and they prayed and said, you,
35:52
Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen. And to the place of ministry an apostle shipped from which
36:00
Judas turned aside to go to his own place. And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias.
36:09
Yeah, I don't think Michael Brown fits this qualification. And we're going to note here then, if you go to like Ephesians chapter 2, verse 20, all right, that this tells us something about the role of apostles and prophets.
36:26
Paul writes, chapter 2 of Ephesians, verse 19, So you are no longer strangers and aliens.
36:31
You are fellow citizens with the saints, and you are members of the household of God.
36:37
So the Christians in Ephesus are considered to be members of the household of God, and the household of God is built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets.
36:48
Foundation. When you build a building, you don't lay the foundation twice.
36:55
You only build it once, all right? And by the way, the apostles are still doing their work today.
37:00
You sit there and go, how so? Because we have the apostolic word in the
37:07
New Testament. The preaching, the message, the teaching of the apostles is recorded for us in the inspired, divine, theanoustos, shining as a dark light, as a light in darkness, word of God, authored by God the
37:24
Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, it's in the New Testament. They're still teaching us. The apostolic word hasn't changed.
37:31
Built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the what? The cornerstone.
37:37
You don't lay the foundation of the cornerstone twice or three times. Once it's finished, it's finished. In whom the whole structure then is being joined together, the whole structure.
37:47
You and I are being joined together with the apostles and prophets, and Christ is the cornerstone. In him you're also being built together into a dwelling place for God by the
37:56
Spirit. I don't think that there are any apostles today, not a single one.
38:04
But what ends up happening is that men like Michael Brown and others go into Ephesians 4, ignore
38:11
Ephesians 2, and say, well, we just believe in the five -fold ministry.
38:19
But here's the thing. When I was growing up in the church, there were no prophets. There were no apostles.
38:27
In fact, let me ask you a question. Who were the great prophets and apostles of the 1700s?
38:35
The 1600s? The 1500s? The 1400s?
38:44
1300s? 1200s? Who were they? Who were the great apostles and prophets of the 8th century?
38:53
Of the 7th, the 6th, the 9th, and the 10th? Who were the great apostles and prophets of those centuries?
39:01
There were no apostles and prophets at that time. None. None. None.
39:09
So we've got a problem here. Oh, we just believe in the five -fold ministry. No, you don't. You're smuggling in apostles and prophets who have gone from the earth.
39:21
The prophets gave us the Old Testament. The apostles gave us the New. That's why it's mentioned.
39:27
Built on the foundation of the prophets and the apostles, you get the idea, right? In saying he ascended, what does it mean but that he also descended into the lower regions of the earth?
39:36
He who descended is the one who ascended far above all the heavens so that he might fill all things. And he gave. Gave. Apostles.
39:43
He gave the apostles. Yes. Yes. He gave the apostles and prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and the teachers.
39:54
Now, it's true. Christ gave us the apostles and the prophets. They're still speaking today to us in the written
40:00
Word of God. And so what ends up happening is people say, well, you know, there were other people who were called apostles, but not in this sense.
40:10
Not in this sense. We're talking about the sense of built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets.
40:17
It is true that in the ancient world an apostle was an emissary sent by somebody else. See, I always have to ask the question, if an apostle showed up, who sent you?
40:25
But that being the case, we're talking about the apostles of Jesus Christ. There's nobody who is sent by Christ as an apostle today.
40:32
And many in the five -fold ministry say, well, apostles, they're like missionaries. Oh, well, those are called evangelists.
40:42
Yeah. So don't sit there and describe to me an evangelist and say they're an apostle.
40:47
You're mixing categories. Somebody who's a missionary who goes out and preaches the Word in China or Africa or whatever and people are brought to faith in Christ and they plant churches.
40:58
Those are evangelists. They're missionaries. They're not apostles in the sense that Paul is talking about here.
41:05
He gave the apostles and the prophets. Okay, so apostles and prophets in this category are talking the same category we're looking at in Ephesians 2, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets.
41:16
There are no apostles today. None. So here we got Sheol. Let me come back to this then.
41:22
And so we got Sheol claiming that God has told him that Michael Brown's an apostle, which
41:30
I found is hilarious because Michael Brown over the past few years has made a big to -do about denying the existence of the
41:37
NAR. And yet Sheol, he's the heir of C.
41:43
Peter Wagner. And his latest book on apostles talks about how apostles have been restored to the earth.
41:52
He's the inheritor of C. Peter Wagner's work and theology on the
41:57
New Apostolic Reformation. They're just staring him in the face. And what does Sheol say? I believe
42:02
God's called you to be an apostle. Now, I got to ask the question.
42:08
So you're playing the God card. God has told you. So now the question is, is it a mortal or a venial sin to deny that God said this?
42:19
Because I don't believe it. Is God angry at me, and am I sinning because I deny that God is the one called
42:26
Michael Brown to be an apostle? Yeah, let me back this up just a little bit, and I want you to hear it again.
42:31
About the impartation, the cluster anointing, I believe in that.
42:36
I believe if I could be bold, I feel that God's called you to be an apostle in the body of Christ, and you're like an apostolic evangelist.
42:45
An apostolic evangelist. Well, he ain't an apostle in the five -fold sense, that's for sure.
42:55
But you note the look on Michael Brown's face. How am
43:01
I supposed to deny the existence of the New Apostolic Reformation now? Yeah, it's hard to deny the existence of it when the head of it just declared that God told him that you were an apostle.
43:15
Now, note, I'll be honest, is that Cheyenne is trying to make it sound like Michael Brown is an apostle in the evangelist sense.
43:25
But that would make him an evangelist, not an apostle. You get the idea.
43:31
Let's keep going. Amazing. The ministry since your birth, and the schools, and just your international work around the world, and you're a prolific author, and I feel you carry authority.
43:41
He does. He carries authority. By virtue of him being an apostle?
43:49
What are you talking about? Yeah, so we got an issue, and you note that Michael Brown, he didn't stop him.
43:56
If Cheyenne and I were sitting down and having a conversation, he would pull something out like this. You know,
44:02
Chris, I feel like God's saying that he's calling you to be an apostle. I'd say that's not
44:08
God talking to you, Chey. That's not the Holy Spirit. God ain't calling me to be an apostle of nothing.
44:13
All right? The Church is built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. Coming back to this then.
44:20
So God gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and the teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.
44:30
And you're going to note here, this is a perfect cross -reference to what we read in 2 Thessalonians 3.
44:36
God gave the apostles and the prophets to equip the saints. Well, watch this, okay?
44:42
So, the apostles and the prophets are still equipping the saints today. Absolutely, they are still equipping the saints today.
44:49
Again, go to 2 Timothy. We're going to go to chapter 3, just at the tail end of it.
44:56
For all scriptures breathe out by God, profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete and equipped for every good work.
45:10
Notice, the written Word of God equips you for every good work.
45:17
So, he gave apostles and prophets and evangelists and shepherds and teachers to equip the saints. So, the
45:23
Word of God equips the saints, and then the evangelists, the shepherds, and the teachers help the saints to rightly understand the
45:32
Theanoustos Word of God, so that they may be equipped. So, a good way to think of it is, are you devoted to the apostolic teaching, the teaching of the apostles?
45:47
The early church was. That's what the Holy Spirit does, the Spirit of Truth does. He leads you into all truth.
45:53
And as you are devoted to the apostolic teaching, then you're going to know that this is the written
45:59
Word of God and equips you, it equips you for every good work. So, I have been equipped by God, the
46:07
Holy Spirit, through the apostolic ministry of the apostle
46:13
Paul, of Matthew, of John, of Peter, of James, of Jude, you get the idea right here.
46:24
So, the apostles and the prophets are still equipping the saints. They still are.
46:29
How do I know? How do I know? Because the same concept of equipping the saints is found in its cross -reference in 2
46:38
Timothy 3, for all Scripture is theanoustos, breathed out by God, is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete and equipped for every good work.
46:54
Every single one of them. So, you've got to note here that sometimes
47:01
I ramble a little bit, but the whole point of this episode really was to just have you think along with me, and the idea here is that what we're seeing in the
47:13
Charismatic Movement runs against the Word of God. It runs against it in doctrine and in practice, and in its twisting of Scripture, in its claims that God is speaking and all this kind of stuff.
47:28
And so, we as Christians are called by the Word of God to test these things, and that we are not to have anything to do with evil.
47:38
When somebody lies to us and says that God said when God hasn't said, we are to mark and avoid that person.
47:44
In fact, that was the other bit as I was putting this together, is that there is another text that I thought would be very helpful in this regard.
47:53
Let me find it real quick. Paul writes in Romans 16, I appeal to you brothers to watch.
48:00
Okay, now, the Greek verb here, skapeo, skapeo, to watch.
48:07
You can also mark, pay attention. It doesn't have a super close
48:14
English equivalent, so you can say mark, you can pay attention to, you know, the concepts are all kind of similar.
48:19
I appeal to you brothers to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught.
48:27
Avoid them. Avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.
48:38
Okay, so avoid them. We are to watch out for and avoid people like this.
48:46
In the New Testament, it is so clear. God does not will for us to listen to false teachers and false prophets and, you know, people who are teaching doctrines contrary to Scripture.
48:57
We are to mark them and avoid them, watch out for them and avoid them. They are not to be given pulpit time in our churches or book deals with publishers and things like that.
49:09
You get the idea. So, again, think a long episode. I kind of rambled all over the place, but hopefully you got the idea.
49:17
If so, if this was helpful for you in this think -along episode, all the information on how you can share the video is down below in the description.
49:26
And so, until next time, may God richly bless you in the grace and mercy won by Jesus Christ and His vicarious death on the cross for all of your sins.
