The Doctrine of the Week for this Sunday is the
Lord's Day. And as everybody knows, the primary day that Christians assemble for worship is
Sunday, the first day of the week, because that is the day that Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday morning.
In the Bible, we see Christians assembling on the first day of the week in passages such as Acts chapter 20 verse 7, 1
Corinthians 16 verse 2, also in the book of Revelation in chapter 1, and remember the apostle
John said how he was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day.
Now, since this is Easter Sunday, or Resurrection Sunday as some prefer, how many of you prefer
Resurrection Sunday over Easter? Okay. These are the spiritual people.
No, I'm just kidding, I'm just kidding. Since this is
Easter Sunday or Resurrection Sunday, I'd like to point something out that in some ways is obvious, but in another sense maybe it's just not something that some of you have thought of before.
Just as the early Christians didn't call the first day of the week Sunday, that's obvious, they didn't even have any concept of Easter.
And let me explain that. Obviously, they spoke a different language, so they wouldn't have used those words, but in the early church,
Christians did not celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on one day a year,
Easter Sunday. They celebrated it every week. So whether you prefer the term
Easter or Resurrection Sunday, here's the point. Every Sunday is
