Welcome to another installment of Fighting for the Faith. My name is Chris Roseborough, I am your servant in Jesus Christ, and this is the channel that compares what people are saying in the name of God to the
00:26
Word of God. Now, if you haven't already seen my lecture from last week that I did at the
00:34
Exposing Deception conference. It was an online affair on on Zoom.
00:39
If you haven't already seen, even if you have, go ahead and hit the subscribe button down below, don't forget to like the video, and ring the bell so you can be notified when we update our channel.
00:49
Now my lecture last week, which by the way I'm gonna redo here, I'll explain why in a second. My lecture last week, last
00:56
Saturday, was on how decreeing and declaring is not only not biblical, it is not prayer.
01:05
And we took a look at some of the recent fiascos regarding Cindy Jacobs, Ken Copeland, Shayon, and then of course
01:15
Chris Vallotton and Bill Johnson. We're all going to see them here in a minute, and we're gonna add into the mix
01:23
Creflo Dollar. But what I wanted to do, because when I looked at how the the video turned out for my lecture last week, we noticed that the front end of it got chopped off.
01:35
And so what I wanted to do was to recreate that lecture, re -deliver it if you would, here on my
01:42
YouTube channel, so it's a standalone thing. And I think we're gonna end up naming this, Why Decreeing and Declaring is
01:48
Not Praying, you know, something along those lines. And so that's what we're going to do on today's installment of Fighting for the
01:56
Faith. We're doing a little bit of postmortem work, if you would.
02:01
I don't know if you've noticed, but things have not gone very well for today's modern Apostles and Prophets and those out there fighting the coronavirus with their decrees and declarations.
02:13
About as useful as stopping a forest fire with gasoline, it just seems to be about that effective.
02:20
And so let's get to it. Let's talk about this, and if you haven't already seen the
02:26
Exposing Deception conference, I was one of the speakers, Phil Johnson was one of the speakers,
02:33
Todd Friel was one of the speakers, as well as Justin Peters. And what we'll do is we'll put a link down below in the description, so if you would like to watch the thing in its entirety, you can.
02:44
But I wanted to make this a standalone teaching so that we can point people to it without them having to figure out where in the mix it is and all that kind of stuff.
02:54
So with that being said, my main point from my lecture last week is this, and that is
03:00
I have noticed that where there is heresy and apostasy, when people drift away from God's Word in very serious ways, one of the things that the devil does when he gets people following doctrines of demons, he has them not praying.
03:17
Let me give you an example. Prime example of this is what happens in Roman Catholicism. In Roman Catholicism, you have
03:24
Roman Catholics spending inordinate amount of time praying to dead saints, praying to the
03:31
Virgin Mary, but Scripture is clear. There is one Mediator, and that's an important word, one
03:36
Mediator between God and man, and that is Christ Jesus. He is the one Mediator. So I don't need to be praying to the
03:43
Virgin Mary, I don't need to be praying to, you know, Mother Teresa or Saint Avala or, you know,
03:50
Saint whatever, name the thing. In fact, I don't know if you know this, but, and you can
03:56
Google this, you know, in Roman Catholicism, if you're trying to sell a house and it's not selling, you can buy yourself a statue of Saint Joseph, say a prayer to him, bury the statue in your yard, and supposedly, you know, like that, your house will sell.
04:12
I mean, this is just rank paganism. So what ends up happening is that I'm convinced the devil knows full well the last thing that he wants to have happen is for people to cry out to God and for them to hear him.
04:30
And so when the devil has established a heretical system, he closes the door of communication between God and human beings by having human beings in the name of God not praying while thinking they're praying.
04:46
And so praying to the Virgin Mary, not a thing. Praying to dead saints, not a thing.
04:52
And decreeing and declaring is as much an error that makes it so you're not communicating with God in an effective way as prayers to dead saints.
05:03
And I'll make my case along the way, and we'll take a look at what prayer is and what it isn't, and note a few things.
05:11
And so let me whirl up my desktop. That is a composition that I recently took, and by the way, that photo will be the the photo that we'll make available for people who join our crew at Gunners Made in Above in the month of May, so I just wanted to let you know
05:29
I took that. That's the Alvarado Grain Elevator. But all that being said, let's take a look now, and let me pull this up.
05:37
So we're gonna go back in time. We're gonna go back in time to March 4th, 2020.
05:43
March 4th, 2020. Seems like eons ago, you know. Here it is the beginning of May, and back on March 4th, and we've covered this already, and you know, here's
05:54
Cindy Jacobs. She's going to declare the coronavirus illegal. She's gonna take throne room authority, and she's going to put a stop to this thing.
06:05
And you know, now we're up to what? 1 .1 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus here in the
06:14
United States? Yeah, anyway, so apparently this was really effective on her part, but listen to what she says.
06:33
No, we do not have authority. In fact, I'm gonna pull my
06:39
Bible up here, and let me duplicate this tab because I wanted to point this out and show it to you from the
06:45
Scriptures, and that is that all authority has been given to somebody, but it ain't me, and ain't you, and it's not the
06:55
Church collectively. We do not have all authority. Matthew 28, this is the text where we find the
07:02
Great Commission. It says, Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.
07:08
And when they saw him, they worshiped him. But some doubted, and Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven on earth has been given to me.
07:18
So Jesus has all authority, all authority, and then he says, and here's the job of the
07:25
Church, are you ready? Go therefore make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the
07:30
Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I've commanded, and lo, behold,
07:35
I am with you always, even to the end of the age. So this is what the
07:40
Church is to be about the business of doing, making disciples, baptizing, teaching all that Christ has commanded, and you'll note here the all that I have commanded bit.
07:50
Where are we gonna find that? That's in all of the Scriptures, both Old and New Testament, because Jesus is
07:56
God in human flesh. Remember, it says that they worshiped Jesus, that means he's the
08:02
God of the Old Testament. So we're gonna find this in the Scriptures. All other competing voices are ruled out.
08:08
And then let me throw this in for good measure. Mediator. There is one mediator between God and man, and that is
08:18
Christ Jesus. Yeah, there's one mediator. Mediator. Yeah, so keep that in mind.
08:26
You're not a mediator between the world and the coronavirus, and what
08:31
Cindy Jacobs is saying here, that we have all authority? Wingnut wackerdoodle -ism.
08:38
This is not true. I mean, where does this woman think that we've been given authority? So let me back it up and listen again.
08:45
Father, in the name of Jesus, you have authority, not some authority.
08:54
You have property. What authority do we have? What text says we have authority? That we are seated with you in heavenly places.
09:03
All right, let me show you that text. Yeah, this is an expanded version of my lecture here. The text that she was referring to, out of context, she's engaging in eisegesis here.
09:13
It's found in Ephesians chapter 2, and so you'll note that Ephesians chapter 2 begins with, you were dead, talking about your state before you were a
09:23
Christian. You were dead in trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience, among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and we were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind.
09:45
But God being rich in mercy, note that God here in the sentence is the noun that's running all the verbs, but God being rich in mercy because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses and sins, he made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved, and raised us up with him, and seated us up with him in heavenly places.
10:09
Now, this is most certainly true that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places. This is done in the past tense, and it is
10:16
God who's done this. But to say that we are seated with Christ in the heavenly places, it is not saying, therefore we have throne room authority to decree and declare.
10:28
So what she's doing is she's engaging in eisegesis, which is to read something into the biblical text that isn't there.
10:35
It just doesn't say that, well, we're seated in the throne room, and that means that we can decree and declare.
10:41
So again, wing that wackerdoodle -ism here. So we take throne room authority, and we bring that into the situation.
10:51
Alright, so they're taking throne room authority, and they're bringing it into the situation. Again, reminder this was
10:57
March 4th of 2020. A lot of good that's done the world, you know,
11:03
Cindy Jacobs taking throne room authority. Did she forget to file a bench warrant?
11:18
I mean, after she declared it illegal, did she forget to go to the courts of heaven now after declaring it illegal, and file a lawsuit against the coronavirus?
11:26
What has gone wrong here? You know, this isn't what the
11:33
Scriptures teach, and this has been not effective at all.
11:43
Yeah, alright, so decreeing and declaring here.
12:00
It's done absolutely nothing. It's based upon a false doctrine regarding prayer, and while we're here, let's do a little bit more biblical work, shall we?
12:10
I want to kind of intersperse this here then, and let's see here, that's
12:16
Acts 4, we'll get to this in a second here, and there's an...here we go. Important text from Ephesians chapter 6, as well as Philippians 4, and let me put it into context.
12:29
Remember, our three rules for sound biblical exegesis, they are context, context, and context.
12:37
So the Apostle Paul, writing to the church at Ephesus, says this, in all circumstances, take up the shield of faith by which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one, take the helmet of salvation, the sword of the
12:50
Spirit, which is the Word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication.
12:57
To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication. And let me point this out to you, this word, supplication, kind of an important word.
13:06
In fact, let me do it this way, let me make sure I got verse 18 up and running here.
13:15
Deeseos, deeseos is our Greek word, and let's take a look what this means.
13:23
It means entreating, urgent request to meet a need exclusively addressed to God.
13:34
Prayer. So a supplication is a request, an urgent request made to God.
13:43
So saying to God, please, Lord, have mercy, help me.
13:48
Because remember, there's one mediator. Christ is a mediator, and when you're not praying, you're not employing the use of your mediator.
13:57
When you're not engaging in supplications, you're not employing the use of a mediator.
14:03
And so we've got a problem here, and that is that this woman is teaching nonsense and ignoring what the
14:10
Scripture says regarding true prayer. How do Christians address our
14:16
God? Philippians 4 .4 says, Rejoice in the Lord always, again I'll say rejoice, so let your reasonableness be known to everybody, or to everyone.
14:26
I would note, the NAR is not exactly known for the reasonableness. It's the opposite of it.
14:32
So the Lord is at hand, so do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and, here it is again, deeseos, supplication, urgent requests.
14:48
With prayer and supplication, with Thanksgiving, let your, and then it says the word, request, let your requests, aetema, be made known to God.
15:00
Okay? So it has... I don't even need to ask this question, but I should just for to make sure we're dotting all of our
15:10
I's and crossing all of our T's. Did you hear Cindy Jacobs asking, requesting
15:18
God for anything? No. She took throne room authority, an authority she does not have, that I don't have, and has declared the coronavirus illegal, and that hasn't done anything.
15:34
So at the heart of this is the false teaching regarding decreeing and declaring, commanding and controlling.
15:42
It's not prayer at all. It's the opposite of prayer.
15:48
Now let's check in with Creflo Dollar. When I gave my original lecture, we didn't cover this one, but I want to throw this into the mix so we have a complete teaching here, and this is from April 5th, so this is almost a month ago, and this has been ineffective as well.
16:09
I would note that in the month of April, things really got cooking with the coronavirus pandemic and number of positive cases here in the
16:18
United States and the world, and this, whatever he did here didn't work, and we're gonna note he's suffering from the same false doctrine regarding what prayer is.
16:30
Listen to what he says. There's something actually quite shocking in his presentation. Here we go.
16:36
I'm calling the entire body of Christ worldwide to commit at least 30 minutes a day not begging
16:44
God. 30 minutes a day not begging
16:51
God. So no supplications, no urgent requests or anything like that.
16:59
Don't you be begging God for 30 whole minutes a day. Why 30 minutes?
17:07
All right, so whatever it is, it's not asking God for stuff. But going before God and saying what he's already said.
17:14
Ah, faith -filled positive words. Now by the way, what the Scriptures teach regarding what prayer is, it is in reality, a large aspect of it, is praying back to God what
17:26
He has said in His Word, and I'll show you that, but that's what he's doing here is sneaky bad.
17:33
Prayer is saying to God what He's already said in His Word, and all of us, this is an opportunity for the worldwide body of Christ to come together and loose our authority against this virus.
17:47
I don't have any authority against the virus. You don't have any authority against the virus.
17:54
So for 30 minutes a day, don't ask God, don't beg Him for nothing, but for 30 minutes a day, loose your authority over the the virus.
18:03
That was April 5th. How's that working out? And declare in the name of Jesus, I am a son of God.
18:10
I speak to this virus. You stop, you cease in your maneuvers against mankind.
18:16
It's not a human being. It doesn't have ears. It can't hear you.
18:23
It doesn't obey commands like that. It's a virus. I command you to stop in Jesus' name.
18:29
I command you to stop. Yeah, how's that working out?
18:37
That didn't seem to do anything. And I'll tell you what, boy, some things will begin to happen, supernatural things will begin.
18:42
Yeah, nothing happened. We figured that out. Yeah, except for everything got worse, and of course, we got to throw this into the mix just because.
18:51
We'll exercise judgment right now. In the name of Jesus! Oh, thank you. Yeah, I'm not the judge of anything.
18:58
Christ is the judge. So no, they're not going to the mediator. There's one mediator between God and man, and that's
19:03
Christ. He is our mediator. So, you know, He's now declaring judgment against the coronavirus.
19:12
But I've noted from Scripture, I've already taught on this a couple of times, that pestilences oftentimes are judgments of God.
19:21
So how do you declare judgment on a judgment of God for humanity's sinfulness?
19:26
Jesus standing in the office of the prophet of God.
19:35
Yeah, that was March 29th of this year.
19:41
So he's standing in the office of the false prophet, and not of God.
19:47
He's clearly of the devil. Is he asking
19:56
God for anything? Is this prayer and supplication? Nope. He's not asking
20:01
God nothing. He's not employing the use of our mediator, Jesus Christ. I execute judgment on you,
20:07
Satan! You destroyer! You killer! You get out! You break your power!
20:13
You get off this nation! I demand judgment on you! I demand,
20:18
I demand, I demand a vaccination to come immediately!
20:25
Yeah, this from the fellow whose wife told us not to get flu shots a few years ago, because getting a vaccination shows that you don't have enough faith in God, and that Jesus is our vaccine.
20:37
Yeah, it's just weird. And of course, this one, the whole Internet's just having a heyday with this one, but let's listen in here.
20:51
Today, we speak to this atmosphere! Which of the apostles and prophets spoke to this atmosphere?
20:59
Spoke to atmospheres at all? We speak to this atmosphere from the state of Washington, to the state of Maine, from the mountains, to the prairies, to the ocean, white with foam,
21:18
God bless America, to the state of Maine, from Southern California, to Brownsville, Texas, and the tip of Florida, and wherever else in the world it—
21:38
The rap remix on this is brilliant. It's much better than this. Is he asking
21:44
God for anything? No, this isn't prayer, this isn't supplication. He's not employing the use of the one mediator,
21:52
Jesus, at all. It's needed. And wherever else in the world it's needed. Wind!
21:58
Wind! Almighty! Almighty! Strong!
22:04
Strong! South wind! South wind! Yeah, the only wind was the wind coming from his face.
22:12
I think you get the idea. Now, where does all of this come from? Well, this is part and parcel of the false theology of prayer, and that comes out of the
22:22
NAR, the Charismatic Movement, the Word of Faith, and where you don't ask
22:27
God for things, you just decree and declare. You don't engage in prayer and supplication, you take authority, and you release your authority, and stuff like that.
22:37
And thankfully, in the midst of all of this, this was on March 20th, Cheyenne did a little bit of laying out this false theology for us so that we can critique it.
22:48
Now, I'm gonna say this right here. We're gonna listen to Cheyenne. Cheyenne's gonna pass the
22:54
Zoom meeting over to Chris Vallotton, and when Chris Vallotton and Bill Johnson appear, we are going to employ our new policy.
23:04
And these are two of the men, Chris Vallotton and Bill Johnson, who believe that they are above the laws of fair use.
23:14
Because they act like they are above the laws of fair use, and they manipulate the YouTube copyright system, we're going to break their videos, and we're going to represent them any old way that my, well, my editor decides to do it, for the purpose of having it be transformative so that we have another layer of protection against their abuses of the copyright system.
23:39
But they are not above the law. No one is above the law when it comes to fair use. So I just want to make that clear.
23:44
So when you see Chris Vallotton, and you see Bill Johnson, and you hear them, they will sound and look different.
23:55
And that's on purpose, because they think they are above the laws of fair use.
24:00
I just want to let you know that we've told you that ahead of time. I'll remind you when we get there and afterwards.
24:07
So you know, you just, you know, you sit there and go, man, it's really mean of you, Rose, bro. Yeah, we do this for a reason, because they, they are abusing the copyright system on YouTube.
24:19
All right, all that being said, here is Shay On. And this was from an online webinar where they, you know, they were going to go and, and save the world from the coronavirus.
24:29
And he's going to steer now into time of decreeing and declaring, and lay out the apparent theology behind this.
24:37
And we'll do some debunking work from the Bible along the way. So here's Shay On. Now what I want to do is,
24:43
I want us to segue into decrees, and making decrees. And what is a decree?
24:49
It's a form of prayer. No, it's not. A decree is not a form of prayer.
24:54
We see when Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, we know this as the
25:00
Lord's Prayer, but it really is the Disciples Prayer. We know it begins with worship. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
25:07
And this is, by the way, in Matthew 6, starting in verse 9, but also in Luke chapter 11. And then it says, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
25:18
That is actually a decree, because... No, it's not. That's in the imperative command, and the way it really reads is, come thy kingdom, be done thy will.
25:29
Do you understand how Eris' passive participles work? I just have to ask, because I don't think he's studied
25:38
Greek. Now just a little bit of a note here, I actually have an undergraduate degree in biblical languages. So, you know, so those out there who would say,
25:47
Rose, bro, you don't really know the biblical language. I actually have a degree in biblical languages. So, and I've been reading
25:54
Greek for a quarter of a century now. I'm getting old. Anyway, so let's take a look at Matthew chapter 6.
26:03
Matthew chapter 6. And so Jesus tells us, pray then like this, pray then like this.
26:11
And in the Greek it reads, πατέρ χαιμών, χαινθόης ουρανός. Let me translate this first part.
26:18
Father, πατέρ, χαιμών, of us. Our Father, χαινθόης ουρανός, the one in the heavens.
26:26
The Father of us, the one in heaven, in the heavens. Χαγιάσθη το.
26:31
That is going to be an Eris' passive imperative, which is a strange case, by the way, hard to kind of pull it in to English.
26:42
Yes, it's in the imperative, but again, it's an Eris' passive. So, χαγιάσθη το, τα άνωμα σου.
26:51
Holy, let your name be holy. Maybe that's a, you know, kind of more direct way of translating.
26:58
Let your name be holy. And you're gonna know it here. When we get to these
27:04
Eris', there's three of them in a row. So, χαγιάσθη το, τα άνωμα σου.
27:10
And here we got, ελθεί το, χαβάσιλέας σου. So, here's the
27:16
Greek verb ερχομάι, to come. And then γενέσθη το, this is an
27:21
Eris' passive, also an Eris' passive imperative, and τα θελήμα σου.
27:29
And the idea here is that these Eris', and this is
27:34
Eris' imperative, this is gonna be Eris' active, these are all working together, and there's a particular voice behind them, and kind of think of it this way.
27:43
You'll see it in the English when I show you this, but the basic premise behind it, because the way the construct is in the
27:50
Greek, is that you recognize then that God's name is already holy, and so if you were to just kind of woodenly translate it, let your name be holy, that's like saying, let your name be holy among us, or let your name be holy to me.
28:10
It still is actually a petition, it's a request. And so, ελθεί το, τα βάσιλέας σου, let your kingdom come, would be another way of translating that.
28:22
And the idea here is that God's kingdom is coming, whether you pray for it or not, all right? So, Jesus is going to return in glory to judge the living and the dead, he's gonna establish his eternal kingdom in the new earth here, you know, reigning from the new
28:36
Jerusalem, the heavenly Jerusalem that comes out of heaven. So, you know, God's kingdom is gonna come no matter what, and so when we pray, ελθεί το, τα βάσιλέας σου, what we're saying is, let your kingdom be among us.
28:51
And so the question then goes, how does God's kingdom come? It comes when people are brought to penitent faith in Christ for the forgiveness of their sins.
29:00
What does Christ say? Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them all that I have commanded you, and I'm with you always, even to the end of the age.
29:11
And then in Luke 24, Jesus says, proclaiming repentance of the forgiveness of sins in his name to all nations.
29:18
So the kingdom comes to me, comes to you, when the gospel arrives and calls us to repent in God through the preaching of the gospel.
29:26
Faith comes by hearing, hearing through the Word of Christ, then we're brought to faith in Christ for the forgiveness of our sins.
29:32
The kingdom has now come to us, to you, to me, all right? And then γεννήθαι το, τα θαλέμα σου, let your will be done.
29:44
That's, again, the aorist imperative passive. The passive makes it really weird.
29:50
So let your will be done. And then οὐσέν οὐράνω καὶ ἐπὶ γῆς, so as in heaven, also upon the earth.
30:02
You know, that's how that translates. So to somehow take ἐλθῃ το, ἐβάσαλέα σου, and say, well, because it's in the imperative, that is a command.
30:15
No, it's not. And you can kind of see this in the English, just when you watch what it says.
30:21
Your kingdom comes. So, and by the way, the Greek word for come is forward.
30:28
It's forward in the sentence. So come your kingdom is how it reads. But that's still not a declaration, because note in the same breath, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
30:43
So kind of woodenly translating it. The Father of us, the One in the heavens, let your name be holy.
30:51
Let your kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. That's how grammatically this works.
30:58
For him to just kind of zero in on the imperative, and miss the entire construct of the sentence, and miss the fact that the verbs are really being set by the first verb, ὁγειάσθαι το, which is an aorist passive imperative, and the three kind of run together, shows that he doesn't know
31:20
Greek. He just heard the word imperative and decided, oh, that means decreeing and declaring. No, it doesn't.
31:27
It doesn't mean that at all. So what he's saying is just wackerdoodle, and your will be done throws the wrench into the machine there of his declarations, and shows he doesn't know what he's talking about, because he doesn't.
31:43
Which is a very bold prayer. It stuns me that God would want us to command. He's not, again, you do not understand how aorist passive imperatives work.
31:54
Our prayers, our decrees. Why? Because from the very beginning, he wanted us to rule with him.
32:00
We see that in Genesis 128. Genesis 128, you are familiar with the fall of man into sin in Genesis 3?
32:10
Where he gave us authority to subdue the enemy and to take dominion. Yeah, this is a complete twisting of Genesis 1.
32:18
So now we see that through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, he's given us now the authority back.
32:25
Where does it say that, we have the authority back? We have now the keys of the kingdom,
32:31
Matthew 16, 19. Now, Matthew 16, 19 and John 20, these are referring to historically what the
32:39
Church refers to as the office of the keys. It has to do with binding and loosing sins.
32:46
It is not an authority over all things. And so he's twisting that text out of context and trying to shove it in here.
32:55
So note, he's now twisted the Lord's Prayer, he's now twisted Genesis 128, and now he's taken a concept out of context and not properly understood what's called the office of the keys, and we got a mess going on here.
33:12
I give you the keys of the kingdom, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
33:18
He has given us authority to bind and loose. And have you ever noticed, most of Jesus' prayer were not intercessory.
33:25
He wasn't asking the Father to heal, he told the lame person, take up your mat and walk.
33:31
That's because Jesus is the Son of God! Jesus is God in human flesh.
33:37
So when God says, take up your mat and walk, guess what's gonna happen? You're gonna take up your mat and walk.
33:43
So pointing to Jesus and basically saying, because he told a paralytic to take up your mat and walk, that wasn't a prayer, that was
33:51
Jesus exercising his divine power. So what do you make of that?
33:57
"...told the man with the withered arm, stretch out your arm, and told the storm to be still."
34:02
That's because he's God. Now the storm, telling the storm to be still. Let me see if I can hunt that down real quick, because that's also in the
34:12
Gospel of Matthew, and I want to say 13. Let me see if I can do this on the fly, because this is a fascinating text.
34:25
Maybe not, it's probably not in here. What am I doing in chapter 3? Editor!
34:31
You're gonna have to fix this part! The following Thursday... Found it! So the text is
34:36
Matthew 8, Matthew 8, verse 23 is where the story starts, "...and
34:41
when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. Behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves, and Jesus was asleep.
34:50
And they went and woke him, saying, Save us, Lord, we are perishing. He said to them, Why are you afraid,
34:56
O you of little faith? Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
35:01
And the men marveled, saying, What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?
35:07
Answer, Jesus is the Son of God in human flesh." Now note the
35:12
NAR falsely teaches that Jesus laid aside his deity. He did not. Or that he didn't perform a single miracle by virtue of the fact that of his divine prerogative or divine power, this is absolutely false as well.
35:27
That's the heresy known as canonicism. And then you'll note, then, in Matthew 14, when
35:33
Peter finally... this is where Peter walks on the water with Jesus, and after this, there's a proclamation.
35:43
So Jesus... so the disciples, they're rowing against the wind on the Sea of Galilee, and I'll start at verse 24, it says, "...but
35:52
the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, so the wind was against them.
35:58
And the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said,
36:04
It's a ghost! And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Take heart, it is
36:10
I." It actually says, Ego e mi, I am. Do not be afraid. So Jesus is using the divine name from Exodus, from I think chapter 3, where God reveals his name to Moses, and he uses it for himself.
36:23
He says, "...take heart, ego e mi, do not be afraid. So Peter answered him, Lord, if it's you, command me to come to you on the water.
36:29
And he said, Come. So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, came to Jesus, but when he saw the wind he was afraid and began to sink, and he cried out,
36:37
Lord save me." Good prayer, by the way. "...Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him,
36:44
O you little faith, why did you doubt? And when they got into the boat the wind ceased," and then watch this, "...and
36:50
those in the boat worshipped him, saying, Truly you are the Son of God." Yeah, so worshipping
36:55
Jesus means you believe he's God, because if he ain't God, he shouldn't be worshipped. And so you get the idea here.
37:02
So what Cheyenne is saying here doesn't square with Scripture at all, and pointing to Jesus and saying,
37:12
Well, Jesus decreed and declared, therefore I can, that would make you a little Christ. And Jesus warned us in the last day of false
37:21
Christs. You're not a little Messiah. Those are decrees, and I feel that God, and if I could just say that kings make decrees, and Jesus is the
37:31
King of kings. Right, so go to him. He's our mediator. Come to him and ask him, please,
37:37
King of kings, King Jesus, have mercy on humanity. Forgive us of our sins, bring us to repentance, and relieve us of the coronavirus pandemic.
37:49
That's the way you approach the King. He's our mediator and our great high priest and king. But we're also kings.
37:55
We're all priests and kings, Revelation 1, 6, and 5, 10. I'm not a king, and we're gonna note
38:01
Revelation 1 and Revelation 5, let's take a look at those texts real quick here, and you're gonna note something really important is that he's not paying attention to what this text really says.
38:17
So Revelation 1, 5, and from Jesus the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings on the earth, to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us a kingdom.
38:39
Yeah, Yeah, we've been made a kingdom.
38:47
Yeah, if I'm part of a kingdom, that doesn't make me the king, any more than being part of a republic makes me the president.
38:55
Okay, you get the idea here. And then Revelation 5, 10, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our
39:04
God, and they shall reign on the earth. So note here that we are a kingdom and we are priests, and then the question is is that if we're a kingdom and we're priests, in what sense are we...and
39:19
they shall reign on the earth, shall reign, and I need to pull this one up because bas -el -leh is future active indicative.
39:32
Uh -huh. You have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall or they will reign on the earth.
39:39
There is a time coming when the saints will reign with Christ on the earth, but you'll note, they shall reign, this is a future, a future verb, third plural future active indicative.
39:55
It ain't happening now, we will, when new heavens, new earth, when the kingdom of God is here on earth, we will reign with Christ.
40:03
Will. But we do not presently reign. Presently we are a kingdom and we are priests.
40:09
Priests do not reign. Yeah, so you get the idea here, is that what he's doing is, this is all twisting of God's Word.
40:18
Every step along the way, Sheol is twisting God's Word and deceiving people into thinking that their decrees are prayers.
40:27
They're not. A prayer would be asking God and asking
40:32
Him to have mercy, beseeching Him. It may be even begging Him. You get the idea.
40:38
Let's keep going. And so we want to make these kingly, priestly decrees, and so this is the biblical basis.
40:45
I think there's power behind it. There's no power behind it because you twisted every biblical text you mentioned.
40:51
I don't know, my faith rises. But these are decrees that we believe that God has spoken to us to make.
40:58
All right, so God spoke to you, it told you to make these decrees. Back on March 20th, a lot of good these decrees have done us.
41:09
So I want to, at this point, ask Chris to make the first decree.
41:15
All right, so Chris Vallotton's going to appear, just a reminder. He's one of the men who believes that he is above the laws of fair use when it comes to copyright, so we are transforming this video because of his manipulation and abuse of the copyright system.
41:32
So that's why he's being changed. Thank you very much. You know, God hasn't given us the spirit of fear, but love, power, and a sound mind.
41:43
But love, power, and a sound mind. So I want to make a decree against this virus right now.
41:51
In Jesus' name, I break the power of this coronavirus. You will not have the crown.
41:57
So you broke the power of the coronavirus on March 20th.
42:09
So what happened? What went wrong? Why wasn't the power of the coronavirus broken on March 20th when you did this decree?
42:20
Jesus has the crown, he is king of kings, and so I command this virus.
42:26
I command. Is he asking God for anything? There's one mediator between God and man. One.
42:34
Is he employing the use of Christ our mediator? Nope. To leave people's minds, to leave people's hearts, to leave the earth.
42:47
It hasn't left the earth like you commanded it to. So something's wrong with your authority here, man.
42:54
I command this virus to leave right now in Jesus' name, and I release the word of the Lord against this virus that you will stop here, that you will no longer go any further, and that the fear of this virus, the fear of this virus is actually inspiring this virus to grow.
43:10
The fear of the virus is causing it to grow. That's not how contagious diseases work.
43:16
Right now, in Jesus' name, we command the fear of this virus to leave right now. I mean, fear is faith in the wrong
43:22
God. Fear means you believe it. Fear means that you give it authority.
43:29
Really? Where does it say that if you fear something, you give it authority? Do you have a biblical text for that?
43:35
Take authority away from this thing, and we have faith in God, and right now we release faith, we release peace of God surpasses all understanding, that it would actually...
43:45
All they're releasing right now are empty words with no authority. Fill the earth with your peace, that actually on your government, yet there shall be no end to the increase of your government or of peace, and we pray for the government of God to blow into every nation, and that the kingdoms of this world would become the kingdoms of our
44:03
God, and that the result of your government would be total and complete peace.
44:09
We pray Romans 16 that the peace of God would crush
44:14
Satan, the prince of peace would crush Satan under your feet. It's a completely empty word salad here, and none of this means anything, and it wasn't even effective as far as declarations go.
44:26
This is just a historically demonstrable fact. More but the prince of peace, and we release the peace.
44:33
We release peace, God's peace, that surpasses understanding over your minds, over your hearts, over your families, over the hearts and minds of our president, of our mayors, of our governors, of our city council, over our spiritual leaders, over our fathers and mothers, that the peace of God would rest on you, and that peace would become an offensive war, an offensive weapon of warfare against the enemy, that would crush the enemy.
45:01
Now that's Ed's, what is, how do you pronounce his name? Silvoso, I don't know.
45:07
Under your feet in Jesus' name. May this be a season of great peace. You may, you wake up tomorrow morning, and you'd be like,
45:14
I have no idea why I have this much peace. The circumstances, I don't see that change yet, and I just pray right now that that unreasonable peace would saturate you, your families, your city.
45:25
So he broke the coronavirus, and you know, got rid of it on the 20th of March, and now he's released peace, too.
45:34
How'd that work out? Your nation, and the nations of the world. God bless you. Bill, you're next.
45:41
All right, here comes Bill Johnson. We decree in Jesus' name that God will protect
45:46
His Church from this virus. All right, now let me translate that for you, the Roseboro paraphrase of what
45:52
Bill Johnson just said, that he's decreed that the
45:57
Church would not be affected by the coronavirus. In other words, if you're a Christian, you ain't gonna get this thing.
46:05
And you'll note, statistically, Christians have come down with the coronavirus at the exact same percentage of the population as anybody else, okay?
46:16
This coronavirus is not a respecter of persons, and I would note that there are some pretty well -known pastors, especially in New York, who are dead from the coronavirus.
46:30
Dead. Based on Psalms 91, tell me, no evil will befall you. Psalm 91 is a messianic psalm.
46:39
It does not give a general promise to Christians. Yeah, the devil quoted Psalm 91 against Christ during his temptation in the wilderness.
46:48
Keep that in mind. Any plague come near your tent, your dwelling. And for those who have tested positive, the coronavirus...
46:55
So if you've tested positive already... God would send forth His Word and heal you, in Jesus' name.
47:03
Now, I gotta point this out. Never trust a faith healer who wears glasses.
47:10
There's a reason why I wear glasses. You want to know why? Because I can't see without them. My eyes are broken.
47:17
Look who's wearing glasses here. That would be, oh, you know, yeah, Bill Johnson. So he's decreed and declared that the coronavirus, if you're a
47:25
Christian, if you're part of the Church, you won't be affected by it, and if you have, you're gonna be healed. All coming from a guy who is wearing glasses.
47:33
I love the fact that in Stephen Kozar's latest video that he did on Sid Roth and Michael Brown, that he noted that the guy that was buying mineral oil from the
47:48
Dalton Tractor Supply Company, when he was on Sid Roth's program, he was claiming the miracle -working power of this
47:55
Bible and the oil that was supposedly oozing from it while he was wearing a hearing aid.
48:04
Never trust a faith healer wearing glasses! And don't ever start a land war in Asia.
48:11
This is common sense, man! And he sent his word, and he healed them.
48:19
So we declare that healing word over you, in the mighty name of Jesus. All right, so there you got the decree and declaring.
48:26
So we've done the debunking part, and a lot of good these declarations have done.
48:32
Here we are in the month of May, and we're still dealing with the pandemic. The numbers just keep going up.
48:38
It didn't go away at Passover. So how then are we to understand what prayer is?
48:45
All right, and so let's do a little bit of a primer from Scriptures on prayer, because here's the thing, is that when you understand what prayer is, then you understand how to go before God and to communicate with Him in the way that His word teaches you to communicate with Him, and He hears our prayers.
49:04
The devil wants to cut off communication. That's why heretical systems engage in felonious, fallacious things that masquerade as prayer, but are not.
49:17
And what ends up happening is that the devil, by getting you to buy into these false doctrines, cuts you off from God, and from communicating to Him, and calling out to Him for help.
49:29
What does James say? James says, I got to work on my grammar. My grammar ain't very good -er today.
49:35
Anyway, what James says in his epistle is, he says, you have not because you ask not.
49:43
Yeah, in fact, let me pull that up, just so if you're sitting there going, no, it doesn't say that. Yes, have...hang
49:50
on a second, have...I spelled it wrong. Have not because...there
49:56
we go. And it's in the Epistle of James. Let me take some of the context out.
50:03
There we go. And yeah, here we go. You desire, you do not have, so you murder.
50:09
This is James 4 .2. You covet, cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.
50:18
And note the word. Ask. Okay, here we go again. Aiteo.
50:24
To ask or to request. You have not because you ask not. So our basis of understanding prayer.
50:32
We'll go into the Old Testament. And if you remember, when Moses was on top of Mount Sinai, he was there for 40 days.
50:38
God...he brought two tablets of stone. God wrote the Ten Commandments with his own hand, with his own finger.
50:44
And Moses comes down from the mountain. What does he find the children of Israel doing? Worshiping a golden calf, okay?
50:51
This is nuts, and this is a great sin, a great sin of idolatry. And just 40 days earlier, they had heard the
51:01
Ten Commandments, and the first commandment is, you shall have no other
51:06
God, all right? You shall worship the Lord your God. Him only shall you serve.
51:12
And what do they do? They, I mean, Moses is gone for 40 days, and they start worshiping a golden calf, all right?
51:19
And so immediately Moses realizes this is a serious sin, and a whole lot of men were put to death because of this sin on that very day that Moses came down from Mount Sinai.
51:31
And so we kind of pick up at the back end of that, you know, Moses' initial reaction, the death of all of these people, and then
51:39
Exodus 32, verse 30 says, so the next day Moses said to the people, you've sinned a great sin, and now
51:46
I will go up to Yahweh, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin. So Moses is seeking forgiveness for the people of Israel, for their sins to be atoned for.
51:56
So Moses returned to Yahweh and said, alas, these people have sinned a great sin. They have made for themselves gods of gold, but now if you will forgive their sin, but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written.
52:10
And you're gonna note here, Moses here is kind of looking for an edge with God, and so if you will forgive your sin, and he doesn't really complete his sentence, but if not, then blot me out of your book.
52:22
Okay, so he's kind of...it's kind of a strong -arm tactic here. You know, I clearly have found favor with you,
52:29
God, but if you're not going to forgive them, then blot me out of the book, too. But what does Yahweh say? He says, whoever has sinned against me,
52:35
I will blot out of my book, but now go, let the people...lead the people to the place about which
52:41
I spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them.
52:48
So God can't be negotiated with in this manner. So strike one, Moses is struck out and trying to figure out how to have the children of Israel forgiven for this great sin.
53:00
So then the Lord sent a plague on the people because they had made the calf the one that Aaron made.
53:06
Chapter 33 then says this, so Yahweh said to Moses, depart, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up out of the land of Egypt.
53:14
And note, he changes who brought them up, it's no longer God who brought them up, it's
53:19
Moses. If you ever married and you have young kids, this is a fascinating phenomenon.
53:27
So when my kids were little, you know, we had three of them, and they were small, and you know, kids being sinners, they don't really get along all that well, and so I'd be at work all day, and I would come back, and you know, my son would be in his room, one of my daughters would be in her room, and you can hear the sniffling, you know, when you get in the door, and the wife is like really upset, and you're afraid to make eye contact, and so you know, you walk in and you give her a little kiss on the cheek, and you say, hey honey, love you, what's up?
54:01
And first words out of her mouth, those children of yours!
54:08
Okay, yes, and now they're my kids, yes, when they're good, they're hers, but when they're not good, they're mine.
54:14
So you'll note here that children of Israel, Moses is the one who brought them out of Egypt, not
54:20
God. God's disowned them at this point. So depart, go up from here, the people whom you have brought up out of Egypt to the land of which
54:29
I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying to your offspring, I will give it. I will send an angel before you,
54:35
I'll drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go up among you, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff -necked people.
54:47
So God ain't going with him now, he's done. So when the people heard this disastrous word, they mourned.
54:55
No one put on his ornaments, for Yahweh had said to Moses, say to the people of Israel, you're a stiff -necked people.
55:01
If for a single moment I should go up among you, I would consume you. So now take off your ornaments, that I may know what to do with you.
55:07
Therefore the people of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from Mount Horeb onward. Now Moses used to take the tent, pitch it outside the camp.
55:15
Now I'm going to skip this part right here, verses 7 to 11, and we're going to just fast forward to the next part of the negotiation, because now
55:25
Moses is going to go to the tent of meeting, the Lord's presence is descended on it, and Moses gets to talk to God face to face as a man speaks with his friends.
55:34
That's kind of the point of that middle part of this, but verse 12 then says this, so Moses said to Yahweh, see you say to me, bring up this people, but you've not let me know whom you will send with me, yet you've said,
55:46
I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight. So Moses is pointing out the fact that God has said to him that,
55:56
I know you by name Moses, and you have found favor in my sight. So Moses is trying to figure out, all right, if I found favor in God's sight, and remember
56:04
Moses is a murderer, all right, how did I accomplish this?
56:09
How did I find favor in God's sight, and how then do I figure out how to do that so that they can find
56:15
God's favor? That's kind of his thinking here. So now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight.
56:27
Okay, he wants this for the children of Israel. Now by the way, is there anything you can do in order to find favor in God's sight?
56:34
No. We are incapable of doing enough good works or being obedient, so we are made righteous by grace, by God's mercy, through faith.
56:47
That's how that happens, even in the Old Testament. So Moses is, he doesn't, it has not yet dawned on him how that all works, he just knows that he's found favor in God's sight, and he hasn't connected all the theological dots.
57:01
So teach me your ways so that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider, too, that this nation is your people.
57:09
And so God said, my presence will go with you, and I'll give you rest. And he said to them, if your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.
57:21
For how shall it be known that I found favor in your sight? I and your people, is it not in your going with us so that we are distinct,
57:30
I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth? And Yahweh said to Moses, well, this very thing that you have spoken,
57:37
I will do it. For you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name. Strike two!
57:47
So Moses is at the plate here, two strikes against him, he can't figure out what it's gonna take in order for the people to find favor in God's sight.
57:55
So now, kind of changing the sports metaphor, going from, you know, baseball to football, it's fourth quarter, there's 20 seconds left on the clock, the game's about to run out here, and Moses calls an audible, and this is, pun intended, a
58:13
Hail Mary pass. Strange play on the part of Moses, but man, this works. So again, note, verse 17,
58:22
Yahweh said to Moses, this very thing you've spoken, I will do for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.
58:29
So Moses said, are you ready? Please show me your glory. Now there's the
58:35
Hail Mary pass. Comes out of nowhere. God, show me your glory. God's response is, alright,
58:44
I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim before you my name,
58:52
Yahweh, and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will show mercy on whom
58:57
I will show mercy. But he said, you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live. And Yahweh said, behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, and while my glory passes by,
59:12
I'll put you in the cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by.
59:19
Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.
59:25
So Moses, in a strange Hail Mary pass here, says, alright, God, show me your glory. God says, alright,
59:30
I'm gonna have my goodness and my glory pass before you. You can't see me, though, I'm gonna proclaim my name, but I'm gonna hide you in a cleft of a rock while my glory passes by, which means
59:42
Moses doesn't get to see it, he gets to hear it. No eyesight, it's all hearing, which is an important bit, too.
59:50
Okay, and so, alright, and so, and after Yahweh has passed by, caused his glory and his goodness to pass by, he'll remove his hand and Moses can see his backside.
01:00:01
And this is the important bit, because watch what happens here. Moses doesn't get to see the glory of God, he gets to hear it, so Yahweh said to Moses, cut for yourself two tablets of stone, like the first.
01:00:12
I'll write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke. Be ready by the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.
01:00:25
No one shall come up with you, and let no one be seen throughout all the mountain, let no flocks or herds graze opposite the mountain.
01:00:31
So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first, he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai as Yahweh had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone, and Yahweh descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the name of Yahweh.
01:00:48
And now listen to this, so Moses is hidden now, hand of the Lord is over the cleft of the rock, and hears what he hears.
01:00:56
So Yahweh passed before him and proclaimed, Yahweh, Yahweh, a
01:01:02
God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation.
01:01:29
So Moses now, he doesn't hear the glory of God, he doesn't see it, he hears it. So what does he do?
01:01:35
He takes the words that he heard as Yahweh proclaimed his goodness and his glory, and now he takes
01:01:41
God's words and he prays them back to God. So Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and he worshiped, and he said, if now
01:01:52
I have found favor in your sight, O Yahweh, please yet let Yahweh go in the midst of us, for it is a stiff -necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.
01:02:09
So what did he do? Based upon the revelation of the glory and the goodness of God, Moses now prays to God with that revelation, and he asks for forgiveness, pardon, and mercy.
01:02:24
And what does Yahweh do? Yahweh says, no way! No way, this is what he says.
01:02:30
And so he said, behold, I am making a covenant before all your people, I will do marvels such as has not been created in all the earth, or in any nation, and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of Yahweh, for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.
01:02:47
God forgives them their sins, says he's gonna make a covenant with them, and it's game on, he's gonna be with them.
01:02:53
And what did Moses do? He heard the goodness and glory of God, proclaimed and took that proclamation, and he prayed those words back to God, and he asked for forgiveness.
01:03:06
Now let me show you again another text then along these lines, and this is a tough one, a tough one for us, but the same concept is in play, the same concept is in play.
01:03:17
It says that Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyronside, and this is from Matthew 15, and says, behold, a
01:03:24
Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, have mercy on me,
01:03:30
O Lord, Son of David, my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.
01:03:36
Now this is a tough text, and the reason why is because here we got a woman who's not
01:03:41
Jewish, and boy is her theology great. She is saying that Jesus is her
01:03:48
Lord, and that he's the Son of David, and she is crying out to Christ that he would have mercy and heal her daughter who was oppressed by a demon.
01:04:02
Jesus' response was no response. He did not answer her a word.
01:04:12
So his disciples came and begged him, saying, send her away, for she's crying out after us, and he answered.
01:04:19
Now here's his answer. I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Well, she's not being turned away by that, so what does she do?
01:04:30
She came and she knelt before him, and saying,
01:04:37
Lord, help me. Now, if you're on your knees and you're crying out to Jesus, and you're saying,
01:04:44
Lord, help me, what are you doing? You're praying. That's what this woman is doing, but she's doing it in person, and here's the thing, because Jesus is
01:04:53
God, it doesn't matter if you are physically in front of him or not, he is with us always.
01:05:00
You can pray anywhere. It's kind of like green eggs and ham, you know, you can have it in a box with socks and a fox, you know, you can have it here or there, you can pray here or there, you can pray anywhere.
01:05:15
That's kind of the point. And so, she's kneeling and she's praying, and her prayer is simple,
01:05:23
Lord, help me. This is a request, this is not a decree and declaring.
01:05:30
And then watch what Jesus does next, because this is explosive. So Jesus answered, it's not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.
01:05:40
Could you imagine if Jesus was doing his earthly ministry right here, right now, during our time?
01:05:45
The internet would have would melt down. I mean, all the liberal news channels would go wall -to -wall,
01:05:51
Jesus Christ, this alleged Messiah calls Gentile woman a dog, and yeah, he did.
01:06:00
So, don't even try to get around it. He flat -out called this woman a dog, alright?
01:06:05
But here's the thing, what this woman does is she hears in the words that Jesus spoke to her, a backhanded promise, and she catches
01:06:18
Jesus in his words, and she prays back his words to him. So watch what she does.
01:06:25
Alright, so again, here's the scandalous statement that Jesus said, he said, it's not right to take children's bread and throw it to the dogs.
01:06:33
So the woman said, yes, Lord. Yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table.
01:06:43
She caught him. She caught him in his own words, and she's, and he might as well, a good paraphrase would be, yeah, alright, fine,
01:06:50
I'm a dog, bow -wow, now give me the crumbs. It is a great response, and here's
01:06:58
Jesus' response to her, oh woman, great is your faith. And that's it, she has faith.
01:07:05
And then he says, be it done for you as you desire. She didn't decree and declare, she came to Christ for help.
01:07:12
And here's the thing, do you ever feel like when you're praying to God for help that your prayers are hitting the ceiling and bouncing right back onto the carpet in your bedroom or something like that?
01:07:24
They're not. But that's oftentimes how it feels, and this account here gives us kind of a microcosm of what's going on here, and Jesus wanted everyone to see how great this woman's faith is.
01:07:39
Why? Because faith always has an object. Her faith is in Christ, and she would not be dissuaded, and she was persistent, and she took
01:07:49
Jesus' words and prayed them back to him. So that's what we are instructed to do as well, and that's the idea.
01:07:58
So have you learned how to pray? And if you haven't, note the
01:08:04
Scriptures tell you how to pray. Now I'm gonna go back into Matthew 6, and I'm gonna show you the cross -reference also in Luke 11.
01:08:19
And Jesus makes it very clear, you know, there's a thing here that he's saying.
01:08:24
He says in Matthew 6, 5, he says, when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. A hypocrite is somebody who puts on airs, you know, wants you to think they're one way when they're another, okay?
01:08:35
They wear a mask. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners so that they may be seen by others.
01:08:42
The whole purpose of their prayer is so that people go, you are such a good prayerer. Oh man, your prayers are so inspiring.
01:08:50
Yeah, yes, of course. When I pray, the angels bend their ears to hear the words that come from my golden mouth.
01:08:59
You get the idea, the flat -out hypocrites, alright? So this, Jesus says, you don't pray this way at all.
01:09:05
So truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, you go to your room, shut the door, and you pray to your
01:09:11
Father who is in secret, and your Father who is in secret will reward you. So when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases, you know, like the
01:09:22
Gentiles do, for they think they'll be heard for their many words. So yeah, kind of one of the problems of believing in a false
01:09:31
God, like Zeus or something like that, is that you have to try to get the attention of your deity, and so they think by piling up words and words and words and words and words and words, you go, oh
01:09:43
Baal, hear us! You see 1 Kings chapter 18.
01:09:49
Oh Baal, hear us! Right? Shout louder! Shout louder! They think that by heaping up all these phrases that they will be heard.
01:09:57
No, that's not how that works at all. So he says, don't be like them. For your Father knows what you need before you ask.
01:10:05
Pray then like this, our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
01:10:12
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
01:10:22
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the kingdom, the power, the glory, forever and ever.
01:10:32
Now, I have to say, that is what we call the Lord's Prayer, and Christians have been praying this for two millennia.
01:10:39
Verbatim. Verbatim. And I know that some of you have been taught, no, no, no, you can't pray, that's just a model prayer.
01:10:46
Don't you memorize it and pray it in those same words. But Luke 11 would actually beg to differ with you.
01:10:53
In this account, because you're gonna note that the disciples on several occasions, you know, they come to Jesus and ask for things, and so we learn that Jesus taught this prayer not on one occasion, but on several.
01:11:05
And so it says in Luke 11, now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him,
01:11:11
Lord, teach us to pray. Teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples. And Jesus said to them, when you pray, say.
01:11:20
So, no, Jesus teaches you to pray, and you can use these words verbatim and pray them back to God, because that's what you're supposed to do.
01:11:32
You can absolutely also use it as an outline for your prayers, but God's not gonna sit there and go, nope, you just prayed it from memory, and everybody knows that if any memorized prayer puts the
01:11:46
Holy Spirit in a box, and so I'm not gonna listen to you. That's nonsense. No biblical text teaches that. So pray back the words of God that he's given you to him.
01:11:57
And you'll note, this is the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray, and he says, when you pray, say. These are the words he's given us to say when we pray.
01:12:05
Now, it's not the only prayer that we pray, but then also note this, that many of us have been wrestling with a particular book of the
01:12:15
Bible known as the Psalms, and the Psalms are not merely hymns.
01:12:22
There are hymns there. It's not merely the worship book of the
01:12:28
Old Testament. Instead, the Psalms are many ways prayers, and you can take the prayers from the
01:12:37
Psalms, and you can make them your own. And so what I'm gonna do here, I'm gonna just take the context out, and if you do a search for the word pray or prayer in the book of Psalms, then you're gonna note here, in fact, yeah, so, give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit, therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer.
01:13:01
There are actual petitions. Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my cry, hold not your peace at my tears.
01:13:10
And so you'll note, O God, hear my prayer, give ear to the words of my mouth.
01:13:16
When you search for the word prayer in the Psalms, you're gonna note many Psalms are straight -up written prayers.
01:13:23
And yes, this is God's Word. You can pray these prayers back to God. So let me give you an example.
01:13:29
So in Psalm chapter 13, Psalm chapter 13, this is a prayer that David prayed to God, and you can make this your own.
01:13:38
A good occasion for praying a prayer of this type would be those times when you feel like God is distant from you, and he doesn't hear your voice.
01:13:45
So listen to this prayer. How long, O Lord, will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
01:13:52
How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
01:14:01
Consider an answer me, O Yahweh my God. Light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, lest my enemies say
01:14:08
I have prevailed over him, lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken. But I've trusted in your steadfast love, and my heart shall rejoice in your salvation, and I will sing because he is dealt bountifully with me.
01:14:23
Another Psalm that is a straight -up prayer is Psalm 55. Give ear to my prayer,
01:14:29
O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy. Attend to me and answer me.
01:14:35
I'm restless in my complaint, and I moan because of the noise of the enemy, because the oppression of the wicked.
01:14:43
They drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me. My heart is in anguish within me, and the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
01:14:52
Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. And I say, oh, that I had wings like a dove,
01:14:58
I would fly away and be at rest. Yes, I would wander far away. I would lodge in the wilderness.
01:15:04
I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and the tempest. Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues.
01:15:11
For I see violence and strife in the city. Day and night they go around it and on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it.
01:15:19
Ruin is in its midst. Oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace. For it is not an enemy who taunts me, then
01:15:26
I can bear it. It is not an adversary who deals insolently with me, then I could hide from him. But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my friend, my familiar friend.
01:15:35
We used to take sweet counsel together within God's house. We walked in the throng. Let death steal over them.
01:15:41
Let them go down to Sheol alive, for evil is in their dwelling place and in their heart. But I call to God, and Yahweh will save me.
01:15:50
Evening and morning and noon I utter my complaint, and I moan, and he hears my voice.
01:15:56
He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage, for many are arrayed against me.
01:16:03
And God will give ear and humble them, he who is enthroned of old, because they do not change and do not fear
01:16:09
God." You get the idea. So the idea is this. Christ is your mediator.
01:16:18
You have not because you ask not. Decreeing and declaring is not prayer.
01:16:23
You do not have this authority, but Christ does. So humbly come to him and pray to him.
01:16:29
Ask him for help. Pray to him and ask him for mercy. Ask him to deliver you from pestilence.
01:16:38
Ask him to deliver you and bring you to safety. Ask him to have mercy on planet
01:16:43
Earth and to please bring a cure so that we can be relieved of this pestilence, and that he would have mercy and be glorified in the solution that he brings.
01:16:59
These are prayers that the Scripture teach us to pray, and it's okay to take
01:17:04
God's words in these prayers and make them your own. It's what Moses did, that's what the woman from Tyre and Sidon did, that's what...
01:17:15
And no, when David prayed his prayers, they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. We can pray them too.
01:17:22
So on your knees, humble yourself before your God, for he is slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and parting iniquity, even yours and mine, and he relents of disaster.
01:17:36
And so call out to him, and may God have mercy on us all. Hopefully you found this helpful.
