- 00:00
- Hey guys, Colin here, and welcome back to the channel where the Bible and critical thinking meet to give you real
- 00:05
- Christian commentary about the things that matter. Thanks so much for watching, let's get into the video. So it's true, a lot of what
- 00:12
- I talk about on this channel does have to do with the situation that modern Christians find themselves in.
- 00:17
- A lot of my videos, if not the grand majority of them, are confronting false teaching, false doctrine, or bad trends that are taking place in the
- 00:25
- Church to one degree or another. That's not something I shy away from. If you're looking for candy -coated language, you can still go to your local dime -a -dozen, seeker -sensitive megachurch and they can tell you everything you want to hear.
- 00:36
- That's not what we do on this channel. In any case, many people will wonder why I say so many negative things about what's going on and what calls itself
- 00:44
- Christianity. So I wanted to shed some light on that. You see, most people who call themselves Christians do not believe the most basic doctrines of the
- 00:52
- Christian faith. Many people have solid enough statements of faith on their church's website, but they still have severely unbiblical church practices and beliefs seeping into their congregations.
- 01:03
- So in today's video, we're going to talk some statistics. We're going to review the data on what people who call themselves
- 01:09
- Christians believe. The ultimate conclusion I came to after seeing this, the unavoidable conclusion that I believe you will come to as well, is that the majority of people who call themselves
- 01:18
- Christians do not have the necessary beliefs to back up that statement. Let me know what you think in the comment section.
- 01:25
- My prayer is that God would work in them, and that He would change these people's hearts and minds for His glory in the way only
- 01:31
- He can. So with that said, let me show you some eye -opening statistics about people who claim to be
- 01:36
- Christians. First, it is important to recognize that the vast majority of people in the United States identify as Christians of some kind.
- 01:44
- To be exact, the number is 69%, and that adds up to a whopping 176 million people.
- 01:50
- At first glance, this seems to be very promising. As Christians, we want our country to be converted to Christ.
- 01:56
- We want as many people as possible to know the Lord. The problem is that recognizing that someone has placed the moniker of Christian on themself is generally a really bad way of discerning whether or not that person is actually a
- 02:08
- Christian. As Jesus says in Matthew 7, 21, Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my
- 02:17
- Father who is in heaven. So with that being understood, let's go ahead and analyze the beliefs of the so -called 176 million
- 02:25
- Christians in the United States. To begin, only 35 % of Americans identify themselves as born -again
- 02:32
- Christians. This cuts down the group to 89 million, which is a decrease of 87 million people overall.
- 02:39
- This is important to recognize, because really, all Christians should identify as born -again
- 02:44
- Christians. If they don't, it doesn't guarantee that they're unsaved necessarily, but it does mean that they're deeply confused about what the
- 02:51
- Bible teaches. In John 3, 3, Jesus says, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
- 03:00
- Jesus clearly makes the case that every Christian, every person who claims to be a part of God's kingdom must be born again.
- 03:09
- Yet despite this clear teaching, only 50 % of self -proclaimed Christians would say that they're born again.
- 03:14
- I wish I could tell you this gets better, but it really doesn't. Moving along, only 52 % of self -identified
- 03:20
- Christians believe that the Bible is the accurate and reliable Word of God. On the other hand, 2
- 03:26
- Timothy 3, 16 says, All Scripture is breathed out by God, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
- 03:39
- Biblically speaking, you see, the Word of God is perfect, and was breathed out by God himself. In fact, the
- 03:45
- Word of God is the foundation of the Christian's worldview, as it is our direct revelation from the
- 03:50
- Father. But again, despite all this, about 50 % of people who call themselves Christians don't even consider the
- 03:57
- Bible to be the Word of God. Next, let's explore the beliefs of the self -identified Christians with regards to morality.
- 04:04
- Over 50 % of these people said that, Determining moral truth is up to each individual.
- 04:10
- There are no moral absolutes that apply to everyone. Yet in John 14, 6,
- 04:16
- Jesus says, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
- 04:23
- Here Jesus makes an absolute truth claim. There is no subjective truth. There is only the truth according to Jesus.
- 04:30
- The Bible claims to be the absolute moral standard. There's just no getting around that. Romans 12, 2 says,
- 04:35
- Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
- 04:47
- This passage clearly tells us that it is the singular will of God, not the many different wills of people, that is good, acceptable, and perfect.
- 04:55
- God alone provides the absolute moral standard according to Scripture. Yet well over 50 % of self -identified
- 05:02
- Christians would disagree with that and would choose to design their own moral standard all by themselves.
- 05:08
- This is nothing short of absolute idolatry and worship of the self. The next statistic is going to cover many different beliefs, so buckle up.
- 05:16
- 39 % of self -identified Christians would disagree with the following statement in some way.
- 05:21
- Quote, God is the all -powerful, all -knowing, perfect, and just creator of the universe who rules that universe today.
- 05:30
- End quote. All of these qualities of God presented in that statement are biblically accurate and permeate the
- 05:35
- Scriptures. They make up what is the most basic idea of God that we could possibly have. They're the root of our theology.
- 05:42
- So let's review each potential disagreement biblically, shall we? This 39 % may have disagreed with the idea that God is all -powerful.
- 05:50
- That's the first thing that comes up. Yet Luke 1, 37 says, quote, for nothing will be impossible with God.
- 05:56
- End quote. This 39 % may have also disagreed with the idea that God is all -knowing. Yet Psalm 139, verse 4 says, quote, even before a word is on my tongue, behold,
- 06:06
- O Lord, you know it altogether. End quote. As another option, this 39 % may have disagreed with the idea that God is perfect.
- 06:14
- Yet Matthew 5, 48 says, quote, you therefore must be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.
- 06:20
- End quote. Additionally, this 39 % may have disagreed with the idea that God is just. Yet Isaiah 5, 6 says, quote, the
- 06:27
- Lord of hosts is exalted in justice. End quote. And here's yet another option.
- 06:33
- Maybe this 39 % have disagreed with the idea that God is the creator of the universe. Yet Genesis 1, 1, the very first verse of all
- 06:41
- Scripture says, quote, in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. End quote.
- 06:46
- It seems strange to me that anyone who claims to be a Christian could possibly miss that. And finally, perhaps this 39 % have disagreed with the idea that God is ruling the universe today.
- 06:57
- Yet Colossians 1, 17 says, quote, and he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
- 07:04
- End quote. So not only did God create all things, but he holds them all together by his power at this very moment.
- 07:10
- Trust me, if God did not hold the universe together, you'd know it. The point is this. As Christians, we need to ask ourselves how somehow 39 % of people who bear the name of our religion don't believe in things as simple as God's power, knowledge, or creative decree.
- 07:26
- How on earth could they have missed that? Most likely it's because they aren't Christians at all. You see,
- 07:31
- Christians believe in the God of the Bible, and these people who claim to be Christians clearly don't. It's really that simple.
- 07:37
- Now this next statistic was absolutely baffling to me. Almost 70 % of self -identified
- 07:43
- Christians, 66 % to be exact, agreed with the following statement, quote, having faith matters more than which faith you have, end quote.
- 07:52
- This is outright heresy. It's religious pluralism in action. Acts 4 .12 says, quote, there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved, end quote.
- 08:05
- The Bible clearly and unapologetically says that there is only one faith that is capable of saving, and that is faith in Jesus Christ.
- 08:13
- After all, if every faith saves, why would we evangelize? If every faith saves, why would we suffer through persecution?
- 08:19
- Why not simply adapt to whatever the religious beliefs of the culture that are persecuting us has? After all, having generic faith matters more than having some specific kind of faith, so why would we undergo severe persecution for our specific type of faith?
- 08:32
- It just makes no sense. Again, this is plain and simple heresy, and it will lead to people leaving the faith.
- 08:38
- It is affirming idolatry against God. There's really no other way to put it. And it's being directly promoted by over 60 % of people who are called
- 08:47
- Christians. These next two statistics are going to be with reference to an even smaller group of people who call themselves
- 08:53
- Christians. This group will be people who identify as evangelical Christians. And this group is largely considered to be a better sample of Christian beliefs as compared to those who broadly call themselves
- 09:03
- Christians, right? That's what you'd think. Wrong. 65 % of self -identified evangelicals believe that, quote, your most trusted primary source of moral guidance is your feelings, experiences, or advice from friends and family, end quote.
- 09:18
- Contrast this with Hebrews 4 .12, which says, quote, For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two -edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart, end quote.
- 09:34
- For the Christian, there is no greater source of advice, morality, and truth than the word of the living
- 09:41
- God. That is supposed to be something that all evangelicals believe in, right? Well, you'd think that'd be the case, but you'd be dead wrong.
- 09:48
- Again, 65 % of evangelicals believe that feelings, experiences, and family members are better sources of guidance than God's Word itself.
- 09:57
- And more than this, 61 % of self -identified evangelicals believe that, quote, a person who is generally good, or who does enough good for others, will earn a place in heaven, end quote.
- 10:09
- Think about that, guys. The quote literally ends with the statement, they will earn a place in heaven.
- 10:15
- Yet Romans 4 .5 clearly says, quote, And to the one who does not work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith will be counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom
- 10:28
- God counts righteousness, apart from works, end quote. There it is, clear as day.
- 10:34
- The Bible makes it abundantly obvious that Christians have faith in Jesus, not their own self -righteousness.
- 10:41
- This was the whole source of Jesus' conflict with the Pharisees. This, in fact, was one of the primary doctrinal errors that the
- 10:48
- Apostle Paul corrects in his letters time and time again. And most importantly, folks, this is another
- 10:54
- Gospel. In response to those who added works to the Gospel, the Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 1 .8
- 10:59
- the following, quote, But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a Gospel contrary to the one we preach to you, let him be accursed, end quote.
- 11:09
- And this is not just from the sample size of people who claim to be Christians, which would include many Catholics and progressive
- 11:14
- Christians. This is 61 % of people who call themselves evangelicals, who have faith in another
- 11:21
- Gospel. So ladies and gentlemen, I stand by the title of this video. I don't think it's alarmist. I don't think it's clickbait.
- 11:27
- It's just true. The majority of people who call themselves Christians, even evangelicals, simply do not have the basic beliefs a
- 11:34
- Christian ought to have in order to back up that statement. So if you ever wonder why this channel was created, why it exists, or if you ever question whether or not this channel has its finger on the pulse of anything real in our culture, go ahead and come back and watch this video.
- 11:49
- Look at those statistics I mentioned, and try to make a sound, reasonable case to me in the comments that most
- 11:55
- Christians don't need discernment and correction. You can make that case, I'm just not going to take it seriously, because it's abundantly clear that the grand majority of self -proclaimed
- 12:03
- Christians are living in their own self -made worldly and pagan religions, worshipping themselves, making up their own morality as they go along, dishonoring
- 12:12
- God's authority, disobeying His Word. The list could go on forever. And this should not be so for those who are called
- 12:18
- Christians. These things should not be named among us. So for those of you who follow this channel, first of all, thank you.
- 12:25
- When someone tells you that we're overreacting here, that we're too negative, that we're not doing anything of value for the
- 12:31
- Church, go ahead and send them this video, and then have a good laugh. And let's pray earnestly that the fake
- 12:36
- Christians who permeate our country would truly be converted to Christ, and that they would submit themselves and their lives to God.
