Well hundreds of people have been gathering at Mercy Medical Center to catch a glimpse of what many believe is the outline of the

Virgin Mary in a window CBS 3 Springfield's Justine Judge is live outside Mercy to tell us how the hospital is coping with all the crowds

Justine. Hospital security and Springfield police have been here all day they've been trying to control the crowds and direct traffic everyone here wants to get a look at what the image is in the window.

When people heard about the image on a hospital window at Mercy Medical Center a handful of onlookers quickly grew into a horde of people snapping photos clutching their prayer beads and calling friends.

Some people believe that it is Our Lady of Guadalupe others believe that it is the Blessed Virgin others believe that it may be the

Madonna. Either way it's far from the first time the Blessed Virgin has made an appearance.

Rainey Barthlett saw a very similar image on the window of a building in Florida. The image of the

Virgin appeared and they they tried everything to eradicate it they threw acid on it it stayed there until about two weeks after we saw it they threw ball bearings and broke the picture window.

Some believe the Virgin Mary has also appeared in other unusual places like the belly of a turtle or a piece of wood.

Another image of Mary appeared on the window of a hospital in Milton, Mass. When it first appeared everyone thought it was a blessing but when the crowds got too large the hospital covered it up with a blue tarp.

There's a perfect perfect image as though she's sitting there to me I think she's sitting there and she's she wants to look over us.

But window experts brought in by Mercy say there is an explanation. Moisture did penetrate between the two plates of glass and the minerals in the water caused some type of chemical reaction.

That's the science of it but these believers have their own theories. Those of us who believe and we're looking for something we are looking for cures and we're looking for miracles actually.

Hospital officials tell me before the image appeared the window is actually going to be replaced but for now they will leave it up and they say that you know everyone is welcome to come down here and take a look.
