Surah 5 and the Real Jesus
A contrast of the recitation of Surah 5 with the words of Jesus in Matthew.

This video isn't an argument. I'm not even really going to respond much to the
Qur 'an sections that I quote here. This is more educational. There is a section of the
Qur 'an that, as with all the sections of the Qur 'an that quote Jesus except for one, has
Jesus speaking in a disembodied voice, not placed in history anywhere. It's been very rightly said many times that Jesus of the
Qur 'an is not a person, he's an argument. And in this particular text from Surah 5,
Al -Maidah, you have Jesus responding to a question from Allah, almost an accusatory question, but asking if Jesus taught anyone to worship he and his mother as gods in derogation of Allah.
It seems that this is what Muhammad thought the doctrine of the trinity was. Many Muslims of this day believe that.
Clearly that is not what the trinity is or ever has been. But, be it as it may, I'm going to read the text to you and then
I'm going to play the beginning of what was an interfaith dialogue. And the interfaith dialogue begins with the recitation of this same portion of the
Qur 'an. Notice the way in which the Qur 'an is recited. The difference between the reading of the
Qur 'an in Arabic, the chanting of the Qur 'an in Arabic, and then the reading of the
English translation. And, of course, the significance of starting with this before an interfaith dialogue that is about the view of God in the
Bible and in the Qur 'an. I find that interesting. So, again, not really arguing this point, but just simply providing this as information so people will understand what the
Qur 'an is actually saying and whether it's actually accurate in what it says.
Let's look at the text from the Qur 'an. And behold, Allah will say,
O Jesus, the son of Mary, didst thou say unto men, Worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of Allah?
He will say, Glory to thee! Never could I say what I had no right to say. Had I said such a thing, thou wouldst indeed have known it.
Thou knowest what is in my heart, though I know not what is in thine. For thou knowest in full all that is hidden.
Never said I to them, Ought except what thou didst command me to say, to wit, Worship Allah, my
Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them, whilst I dwelt amongst them. When thou didst take me up, thou wast the watcher over them, and thou art a witness to all things.
If thou dost punish them, they are thy servant. And if thou dost forgive them, thou art the exalted in power, the wise.
Allah will say, This is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth. Theirs are gardens with rivers flowing beneath, their eternal home.
Allah well pleased with them, and they with Allah. That is the great salvation, the fulfillment of all desires.
To Allah doth belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein. And it is
He who hath power over all things. When thou didst say unto the people,
Take me, and my mother, two deities from among them,
He said, Glory be to Thee! It is not for me to say that which is not for me.
If I had said it, thou wouldst have known it.
Thou knowest what is in my soul, and I know not what is in thy soul.
Verily, thou knowest the unseen. I did not say unto them except that thou hadst commanded me to worship
Allah, my Lord and your
Lord. And I was a witness against them while I was in them.
And when thou tookest me to death, it was thou who was watching over them.
And thou art a witness over all things.
If thou punish them, verily, they are Thy servants.
And if thou forgive them, verily, Thou art the
Mighty, the Wise. Allah said,
This is the Day when the truthful shall benefit from their truthfulness. They shall have
Gardens through which rivers flow, abiding therein forever.
Allah is well -pleased with them, and they are well -pleased with Him. That is the great triumph.
To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them.
And He has power over all things. Which are from Surah Al -Ma 'idah, the fifth surah of the glorious Qur 'an,
Ayah verse number 116 to 120. Allah says,
And remember, when Allah will say on the Day of Judgment, O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say unto men,
Worship Me and My Mother as two gods besides Allah? He will say,
Glory be to You. It was not for Me to say what I had no right to say. Had I said such a thing,
You would surely have known it. You know what is in My inner self, though I do not know what is in Yours.
Truly, You, only You, are the All -Knower of all that is hidden and unseen.
Never did I say to them aught except what You did command Me to say. Worship Allah, My Lord and Your Lord, and I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them.
But when You took Me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a witness to all things.
If You punish them, they are Your slaves. If You forgive them, verily,
You, only You, are the Almighty, the All -Wise. Allah will say,
This is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth. Theirs are gardens under which rivers flow in Paradise.
They shall abide therein forever. Allah is pleased with them and they with Him.
That is the great success. To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is therein.
And He is able to do all things. Thank you very much.
Redeemer, Name above all names.
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah over sinners slain.
