- 00:09
- Oh there it is the different intro yeah man
- 00:14
- I would say new intro but we used that before we have that's been a year that one's like going into battle baby we are going into battle tonight
- 00:21
- I know exactly we're gonna get into some Psalm 51 tonight that's all man that is that's a pretty serious one man yeah it is when
- 00:30
- I was looking at a little bit earlier I was just like oh my goodness wonder if we're gonna be okay through this thing oh
- 00:37
- I know it'll definitely cut cut your flesh for sure that's for sure oh man but hey guys welcome back to another episode of dead men walking podcast we appreciate you always listening telling a friend and sharing it with a friend that's how we bring glory to God how we grow the show and Jason how are you doing tonight brother doing great man
- 00:54
- I just had dinner with a friend and his family what's it has some pretty good ribs and yeah the kids played and yeah good time oh man you're little one's so cute
- 01:05
- I know she's so funny I whenever she's singing twinkle twinkle little star just walking around the house it's like how do you know those lyrics already you're only 20 months exactly pick it up quick man
- 01:18
- I know right you know the exact pronunciation wasn't there but we got the yeah yeah she was like bo bo bo she was really close though for sure for 20 months
- 01:27
- I was like wow yeah yeah but we had dinner is yeah spoiler alert to everyone listening that's what he was alluding to we had a little family dinner our families got to hang out hang out with your lovely wife some bread
- 01:38
- I broke some bread as brothers and the Lord should do from time to time with their families definitely but it was cool so now we got full bellies yep and now now we're gonna dig into the word more it's so great it was so cool that you and I kind of are always on the same page when
- 01:57
- I text you earlier this week and said hey should we do yeah just dig into some scripture this week and I was like maybe a psalm or a chapter like Psalm 51 great all right we're good that's exactly what
- 02:09
- I was thinking I know a psalm would be good and 51 is a heavy psalm yeah it is it's a heavy lift so we're gonna go through probably read all 19 verses to you then maybe talk about a little bit maybe get a little particular yeah about some of the verses
- 02:24
- I know I read it a few years back and I had to bust out one of my older Bibles with the notes in it
- 02:30
- I've been through I don't know since I was 24 this is my fourth
- 02:37
- Bible okay and it's always just a little rough because you save that Bible because I got all kinds of notes and in the linear you know so do you tie light and you do that right yeah yeah highlight and arrows back and remember this and God did that for me and so each one is kind of like a chapter and phase in my life but it's kind of hard giving up that Bible because you man there's so many good notes in there right the very first time
- 03:01
- I did that I tried to copy all of the Bible so then
- 03:07
- Adam like I'm gonna copy mom no I got I got to like halfway through Genesis and I was like this is too much
- 03:13
- I just usually keep notes in my diary I don't know where it's at in the thing we got to get you on this you have so many drops on that thing though I don't even know where to start but anyway no price price is right oh wait is it where is it at did you see that no
- 03:40
- I didn't it might be because that horn is the yeah right isn't it yeah there's you do not have a diary sir you're a man's man right oh man
- 03:55
- I see Joel Olsteen there did you hear about that this week uh -huh you didn't hear what all over he got questioned for that yeah yeah
- 04:05
- I know man they brought him in and they're like are you saying you're missing 600 grand and then we find 400 of it in a wall yeah right what do you think oh my god okay can
- 04:14
- I tell you what the first yeah totally yeah I thought inside job someone who worked there knew they weren't gonna be able to walk out of the church with it and they stashed it and they said we'll come back later for it yeah yeah
- 04:24
- I mean let's see that I don't know if it was Joel himself do you think he's the one I don't I wouldn't think so I mean you know
- 04:31
- I don't I mean dude I know that we like obviously have differences with mr.
- 04:39
- Olsteen Oh Olsteen or Osteen I just I'm very careful about saying wouldn't wouldn't go to heaven
- 04:45
- I just think that only God can judge a person that's right so very some very obvious differences but when it comes down to something like that I'm not sure that I could pay him as a as a what is it called
- 05:01
- I don't know not a fraud a thief I'll see there we go a thief no no he's those but he's a
- 05:07
- I don't think that he's a thief well my second thought was well that's maybe him or someone that he's really close with they were like look at here's a good way to have almost half a million dollars yeah liquid cash yeah no liquid which is a great idea in case something goes down go sideways who knows yeah and it's just it's in the wall
- 05:26
- I know where it's at and if I need to tap it yeah I don't think it's like he would hide it just then oh
- 05:33
- I got to go get 40 grand out to go get some new suits it's like yeah that's all he the church up I'll pay us for that right horrible stuff that he spends all his money on but my point is is like I wouldn't put it past him or someone he knows like now so Joel's pretty smart in the fact that he probably has plausible deniability so he could have had a conversation very vague his number one or a friend or whatever goes okay
- 05:54
- I pick up what you're laying down and then throws it in a wall and then just goes you know when stuff goes sideways in their belly up and yeah they've been raided or I don't know for whatever reason he goes oh here's yeah
- 06:05
- I got five hundred by the way we need to do yeah you know so it could be that too but the whole thing is very weird it is it's a really weird and and also the plumber that that found it
- 06:17
- I mean he did they peg him on that did they say that he was a part somehow no that is that he immediately called a supervisor because it was a contract union job brought him in and then they reported it to police immediately gotcha okay cuz
- 06:31
- I thought I saw something on Good Morning America on the bottom ticker I wasn't really paying attention he worked for the church it was a big inside job no it was something like he had put it in there and like yeah and then he found it quotation marks right anyway yeah that was a wild story that came out this week oh yeah we'll watch that one yeah man develop right yeah
- 06:54
- I'm sure it'll wait Mary just like the what's her name
- 06:59
- Jillian Maxwell just Galene Galene Maxwell yeah not even allowed to hear testimony you just yeah you know
- 07:07
- Kyle Rittenhouse we saw every single testimony and video and very sure but with everything the
- 07:13
- International pedophile ring yeah oh no no the judge actually said it would be to what was the word it they said it would be too appalling to guys details that come out publicly and we're like excuse us but right right first of all we're the judge of that is the public second of all this person it was part of something did some serious serious crimes against children yeah we need to know about it but it's just crazy that it's being protected and we're getting that what we get artists sketches as though all right exact transcripts and barely getting anything from the trial whatsoever yeah except that they found the black book oh did they yeah
- 07:48
- I think well one of seven I think there's something like I don't know there's a lot of this is right now dude how are you what yeah exactly they're shaking in their boots it's like be sure your sin will find you out
- 08:00
- I mean like and I think and you know what I'm gonna throw something out there get ready all right conspiracy theory throw it out
- 08:08
- I'm gonna throw this out plot twist okay Epstein's alive whoo plot twist wait a minute say say that again plot twist
- 08:18
- Epstein's alive now wait why do you think that or why do you why would you this is it can be possible this is my discernment prophecy side of no
- 08:31
- I really
- 08:41
- I'm wondering I mean they can't find the video of when he quotations hung himself they can't produce that the the people that were a part of it are they are they even being convicted for nothing happened yeah yeah
- 09:01
- I mean there's there's nothing that's that's tied to that whatsoever just saying that he did it but yeah there's where's his body where where's where's everything
- 09:11
- I don't know was he cremated yeah yeah for any of you guys I don't think we don't know what the heck we're talking about not at all this is conspiracy yeah with it sure yeah he's alive stranger things have happened right exactly what if he showed up on the witness stand they're like and next you know because he's supposed to be dead right everybody said it online yeah no there's
- 09:37
- I mean some stuff's gonna come out look at men's men and women's heart they're evil yeah lived in a depraved world they do evil things right fully we can have some modicum of justice exactly with this trial but I honestly
- 09:49
- I'm not really hoping for too much because yeah just see how the justice system is right now even the justice system is getting very politicized mm -hmm which is unfortunate very unfortunate because it's supposed to be a model of biblical justice that's how the
- 10:02
- Constitution and the founding father set the country up modeling it off of Christian Judeo principles and godly justice yep and now this is where we're at exactly all right well that kind of take the hidden sin and fight your sin being found out that kind of takes that's right you what we're gonna talk about tonight yep
- 10:17
- I'll tell you what Jake could you read through all 19 verses absolutely Psalm 51 maybe we'll just pick it apart a little bit yep here we go reading from what the
- 10:26
- ESV this is ESV okay yep and the title of this section is create in me a clean heart
- 10:32
- Oh God Psalm 51 verse 1 have mercy on me O God according to your steadfast love according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin for I know my transgressions and my sin is ever before me against you you alone have
- 10:55
- I sinned and done what is evil in your sight so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment behold
- 11:04
- I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me behold you delight in truth in the inward being and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean wash me and I shall be whiter than snow let me hear joy and gladness let the bones that you have broken rejoice hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities create in me a clean heart
- 11:36
- O God and renew a right spirit within me cast me not away from your presence and take not your
- 11:44
- Holy Spirit from me restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit then
- 11:53
- I will teach transgressors your ways and sinners will return to you deliver me from blood guiltness
- 12:01
- O God O God of my salvation and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness
- 12:08
- O Lord open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise for you will not delight in sacrifice or I would give it you will not be pleased with a burnt offering the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit a broken and contrite heart
- 12:27
- O God you will not despise do good to Zion in your good pleasure build up the walls of Jerusalem then will you delight in right sacrifices and burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings then bulls will be offered on your altar
- 12:44
- Wow there's a lot there there's a whole lot there that is man that's a heavy psalm yeah it's
- 12:52
- I mean what a great psalm is an example for a repentant sinner exactly to you know a lot of believers are obviously familiar with the story of David and this really was kind of a blemish on his character right
- 13:09
- I mean what happened with Bathsheba is what it was what this song was absolutely yeah and so just as he's walking through that repentance just like you just said yeah it's it's just incredible because all of us go through this you know maybe not adultery but no some type of sin which we're going to type we're gonna get into right right now
- 13:30
- I know when I was looking through my notes I kind of had it broken down like this part one is he confesses his sin that's verse 3 through 6 part 2 he prays earnestly for the pardon of his sin that's verses 1 2 7 & 9 part 3 he prays for peace of conscious which is verses 8 & 12 part 4 for grace to go and sin no more which is verses 10 11 & 14 part 5 for liberty of access to God in verse 15 part 6 he promises to do what he could for the good of the souls of others which is verse 13 and for the fear and for the glory of God which is verses 16 17 & 19 and then lastly concludes with a prayer for Zion and Jerusalem which is verse 18 and 19 yeah and I mean this was well this is one of the like I said one of the greatest blemishes on David's character in fact in first Kings 15 5 the verse says that and talking about David he turned out aside from the commandment of the
- 14:31
- Lord all the days of his life save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite which is what this is talking about so literally in first Kings they make a point of saying
- 14:41
- David did not turn from the laws and precepts of God except for that issue yeah to where he publicly sinned and it will get we're gonna get into it in a little bit here but also didn't have remorse for a pretty long time right yeah and I mean you know in the in the story in 2nd
- 14:58
- Samuel 11 you know 2nd Samuel 11 and 12 is where the story comes out of I mean right here you have abuse of power in the name of lust you know at the beginning
- 15:11
- I mean look at look at what David did to you know to his family and you know even even a friend a a close friend he you know sends into battle to be killed you know so that he can have his wife yeah and I mean this is this this story is just I mean it's about brokenness and a lot of us have been broken by sin you know and something like this
- 15:38
- I mean you know where do you even start I mean lives are just torn apart within this but by the end of this psalm there is redemption and I just feel like you know if if there is someone out there just really hear us as we're talking about this just know that there is redemption in Christ redemption through repentance yeah repentance absolutely yep totally agree yeah repentance is number one yeah one of the things that I noticed too is you know
- 16:11
- David had a son at this time so he had been unrepentant for at least nine months at least okay depending on how long this took place before his son with Bathsheba was even conceived and it's just crazy to think that you know although although God will allow us to you know in the
- 16:31
- I say us I'm talking about those that are saved that are regenerate yeah to suffer in their sins he's always going to recover us through repentance yeah he will allow us to suffer in our sins and the choices we make but he will give us the opportunity to recover through repentance and that's what happened here with David and here's another thing that blows my mind this was a public song this was a public song he is he's talking publicly about his hidden sin yeah and for me it's it's just so crazy that there is once you you come to a place of repentance there really is no shame there's shame in the fact that you sinned against God but there is no shame in what you've done because you have been forgiven and you've repented of it he was able to talk about because he's more concerned about other people learning from this in seeking repentance as well as we get down into the later verses yeah which
- 17:27
- I find I mean just amazing yeah it's almost like the you know the believer covets the place of repentance more than they should they should worry about being ashamed of the actual sin right you you want to get to that place of repentance but I don't know maybe you want to go verse for verse how do you want to do this let's go verse by verse okay and take a look at it see what it stirs up in us so starting verse 1 yeah we're back on verse 1 have mercy on me
- 18:02
- O God according to your steadfast love according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions
- 18:07
- I'll go through to wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin so first of all we got
- 18:14
- David coming from an absolute place of humbleness have mercy on me right he didn't say have mercy on me because I'm your man and you're my you know
- 18:29
- I'm I'm anointed and I'm the king and I've done all this good for you and I've carried out what
- 18:35
- I've done look what Samuel did or so I mean sorry
- 18:40
- Saul did 1st Samuel 15 30 Saul says Lord preserve me and my reputation for I have sinned yet honor me before the these people
- 18:49
- Saul was concerned about his reputation when he repented yeah in this psalm we see
- 18:54
- David coming very humbly and saying have mercy on me and we'll see more of that in like verse 10 and 11 where he comes humbly but what do you get out of those first yeah
- 19:06
- I mean well you know I mean I I am seeing just the the drama you know the the brokenness in him
- 19:16
- I mean and in how he knows who to run to hmm you know what I'm saying like they like think about your daughters and your son
- 19:25
- I mean what do you want from them you want them to know that they can come to dad you know like you you want them to know hey if you mess up if you have something go on in your life like don't don't run you know and hide like just just come to me let's talk about it let's let's figure it out you know no how big or how small let's just work through it and this is something that is huge you know yeah adultery
- 19:53
- I mean murder but murder adultery exactly I mean why this entire story but think about the redemption that you're getting from this and and not not saying that there weren't consequences in the story but you know there are the first thing that David wants to do is run to his father his heavenly father and that's that's something that I that I see in those first couple verses that's good yeah it's good stuff so there's something in verse 3 here that really stuck out to me for I know my transgressions and my sin is ever before me meaning
- 20:31
- I mean he had deep grief this wasn't just a moment of passion it was 9 10 11 12 months of secret sin of condemnation of being ashamed of rolling it around in his head going you know there was no public repentance by no means not until we get to this you know like you said in the story until he publicly repents with Nathan but that line my sins are ever before me lets us know that David wrestled with this yeah this caused him deep grief yeah this wasn't like I had a flare -up of guiltiness and then
- 21:06
- Oh Lord please forgive me right it was he was wrestling with this this was grief and being ashamed and condemned and all those other things verse 4 says against you you only have
- 21:16
- I sinned and done what is evil in your sight so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment this one too shows me the sovereignty of God that the view of the sovereignty of God that David had because I don't think he's minimalizing the fact that someone had been killed right and that a woman had been violated and that he had to lie but he's saying ultimately
- 21:41
- I have I've only sinned against you yeah because that's all that matters in this life yes
- 21:47
- I've harmed other people I need to ask their forgiveness and there's consequences but ultimately
- 21:52
- I've sinned against you and you alone and that's why I'm coming to you to ask for mercy right I thought that's pretty good too yeah that's so good yeah
- 21:59
- I mean there's there's no other way to cut those those two verses right there for sure yeah go on go on to five so this is where this is a key verse to where like Aquinas and a couple others argued and Augustine argued for original sin where says behold
- 22:13
- I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me original sin yeah the fall of Adam once again he's setting that table in this psalm in worship to God of knowing who he is compared to God right look at you
- 22:30
- I was brought forth first of all I was created yeah I might be king and I might be the man in Israel right now and have all these men under my command and all these you know fruits of my labor but ultimately
- 22:41
- I was brought forth by you created in iniquity and in my sin did my mother conceive me yeah but behold you delight in truth in the inward being and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart that's so good isn't that good
- 22:55
- I mean I mean it's poetic too but it's so true but yeah and I mean I you know whenever we talk about the sovereignty of God and what
- 23:06
- God was doing in this situation you know I mean just the things that he was learning probably as he was writing this you know yeah
- 23:18
- I mean like I I really I start to wonder like what the Holy Spirit was you know speaking you know it's like what what was he learning from the father at that point in his life as he's going through this situation yeah but yeah this one here verse seven is one of my favorite seven and eight because it says purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean wash me and I shall be whiter than snow now hyssop was a leaf that during Passover they would dip into the lamb's blood and they would sprinkle it and that's during Passover that's what would wash away the sin is the sprinkling of the lamb's blood right at Passover we we know now that Christ is our
- 24:07
- Passover lamb yeah I'm in his blood washes away our sin so David is even using a very messianic and prophetic words in these two verses because he's saying purge me with the hyssop he's essentially saying remove my sin only as Christ can right and I shall be clean wash me and I shall be whiter than snow verse 8 let me hear joy and gladness now listen to this another messianic prophecy let the bones that you have broken rejoice right right right
- 24:36
- Isaiah 53 yeah bones you're broke yeah absolutely so those two verses there
- 24:43
- I love how he's intertwining so he's coming because we're gonna talk about salvation in a little bit here too because even brings that up but he's coming from a place of humbleness he's understanding who he is and then he's also and then now in verse 7 saying hey just like at Passover when we sprinkle blood on that mercy seat during the yearly sacrifices or during the yearly tradition of Passover where we sprinkle it that the blood of the
- 25:07
- Passover lamb may cleanse us I need you to do that right for me now to me this
- 25:13
- I would think this is a pretty new concept here mm -hmm God said no you have to do that in the in the priestly
- 25:20
- Levite line lineage would do that here we have David directly appealing to God to do that and how does
- 25:29
- God do that through Christ yeah through the plan of redemption yeah right yep I don't know you got anything for seven and eight there what do you think yeah
- 25:37
- I mean it you know with well with eight I mean especially let me hear joy and gladness
- 25:43
- I mean he was he was crying out saying look like I'm not doing so good yeah let me remember joy and gladness you know like I mean it's yeah
- 25:54
- I mean you could you can see from verse 1 to 8 how his emotions are just running through this
- 26:01
- I mean and as it goes even you know through 19 but but yeah it's like he's he's in a dark place but yeah you know
- 26:07
- I mean that's what happens to us when we are in sin you know yeah so verse 9 hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities essentially you could read that that hide your face is basically like don't deal me don't deal with me in the manner that I deserve
- 26:26
- I mean that's what he's asking there yeah hide your face from my sins I deserve yeah to be the consequences and disciplined and I deserve death for my sins but hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities verse 10 created me a clean heart
- 26:40
- Oh God and renew a right spirit within me so I love that verse because that goes back to when
- 26:47
- I was saying you know he's approaching God yeah as a sinner yeah not as king not as ruler not as the king that carried out
- 26:55
- God's will through many battles and in the establishment of the throne and in Israel right unlike like I said
- 27:03
- Saul in 1st Samuel 1530 where he says you know please honor me before these people yeah you know no he was concerned
- 27:10
- David was concerned about his nature being changed created me a clean heart
- 27:16
- Oh God and renew a right spirit within me he's basically going look at I did this horrible thing something has to change here right
- 27:23
- I mean that's repentance at its core right repentance isn't asking forgiveness it's understanding that something wrong was done and then do it and then from there doing the exact opposite going the opposite direction yeah turning around his yeah
- 27:37
- I mean his desires and thoughts could only come through the intervention of God you know yeah like I mean those the redirection
- 27:46
- I guess of it you know of those desires and thoughts only come through you know God helping absolutely that verse 11 always gets me too because it's very personal for me because I felt this way before in prayer and worship where it says cast me not away from your presence and take not your
- 28:03
- Holy Spirit from me mm -hmm have you ever been in like deep prayer or deep worship where you feel like Lord just don't don't leave me
- 28:10
- I know I've messed up or you know you know I haven't I haven't felt that same type of I don't hate to hate the word use the word felt but I know
- 28:20
- I don't measure up I know I'm not good enough and I understand redemption and I get all that but don't take your comforter from me yeah don't take your
- 28:27
- Holy Spirit from me at least I have you if all else fails in this world at least I have you and that's what
- 28:34
- David's doing here I mean he's crying out and saying take not your Holy Spirit from me yeah it's just such a personal once again
- 28:40
- I can't believe that this is a public this would have been issued in the Kings court yeah this was a song he was this was open for all all people to hear and sing right did did you just say something earlier just about you know him fearing that the
- 28:55
- Spirit was gonna be taken from him just like just like Saul just is that what you just said yeah
- 29:03
- I mean like I guess I did I say like Saul yeah just like I was saying like saw how
- 29:09
- Saul was worried about his reputation it was worried about through but but I mean in that verse David was was worried about the
- 29:16
- Spirit being taken from him just like Saul it happened to Saul oh yeah maybe you said that I don't know my yeah
- 29:25
- I think I repeated myself about the Saul thing because it's just it just stuck out to me because I had a note in my Bible that said
- 29:30
- Saul wanted his reputation healed when he repented David could care less about his reputation he just didn't want the
- 29:35
- Spirit taken from him yeah yeah he was like God please just don't look at my sin right and I think that's the difference in in in someone who the
- 29:43
- Lord has given wisdom and in knowledge and discernment and has a maturity and sanctification that says yeah
- 29:49
- I don't really care about my reputation I want my rep with men yeah yeah I want my reputation with you
- 29:55
- God to be right and the only way to do that is please don't treat me how I should be treated for my sin look look the other way on my sin please
- 30:02
- I know what I've done you know what I mean it's such a contrite and humble yeah so hard that he's coming to him right right and then we see in verse 12 he says restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit so the way my brain works is
- 30:19
- I read that and I go okay well there's two things that happened to to David from from this sin he had he's full of grief and sadness restore me to me the joy and then uphold me with a willing spirit he's weak yeah he's weak and overwhelmed and just I can't do this anymore yeah
- 30:36
- I mean this is a broken man that's writing this psalm that this worship song to God he's saying
- 30:42
- I'm grief -stricken and I'm weak restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit yeah that's so good so good
- 30:51
- I love it verse 13 so I like this one because it's kind of like David doing a little he's doing a little like negotiating with God right he says then
- 31:02
- I will teach the transgressors your ways and sinners will return to you isn't that something that we do in our humanness though we're just like if you sometimes it's like if you can do this for me
- 31:16
- I'll do this yeah you know and it almost it almost sounds not very good like I mean in my brain it to some point
- 31:24
- I understand what I'm saying are you trying to wheel and right but I understand but I think this was a place to where he's basically looking
- 31:34
- I'll make you two promises I will teach sinners your law yeah and I'll help and I'll lead them to salvation in any way that I can if you allow it yeah so now he's getting into look at restore the joy
- 31:44
- I mean look how salvific this whole thing is to restore to me right exactly then he's like a I've learned from this
- 31:50
- I've learned from my transgression from breaking your law yeah help remove this from me and that'll allow me to then teach others about this transgression and how not to transgress your ways and then sinners will return to you they'll come on to salvation because of the witness
- 32:04
- I love that so I think David's even looking into understanding how God can use something like this even for his glory right you know but I'm totally on board with you to to where anytime
- 32:15
- I see someone wheeling and dealing with God I get a little nervous right right but I've done it I know I know I it's like human nature isn't it yeah
- 32:22
- I mean do you ever feel like you're making deals with God it's like what am I doing but but in this he's talking about more of like salvation you know and it's like it's like him coming back to relationship with Christ you know and it's it's like oh man you know that's that's exactly what you want to do yeah it's not just if you give me a you know a
- 32:44
- Cadillac you know I'm gonna tell everybody about you right no it's not what he's doing he's just like restore my joy like that's all he's asking for restore my joy you know of your salvation of knowing that you've saved me it's almost like I almost wonder if in that verse to restore the joy of my salvation if he's having doubts of even being saved you know like yeah have
- 33:08
- I done something so horrible to where you moved your eyes from me to where I'm not in your presence to where I'm feeling this grief
- 33:14
- I'm weak I need you to uphold me just restore that joy of me know of having the assurance of your salvation just like take taking the spirit from Saul that's what he's worried you know yeah might happen which is so crazy because we have the assurance now through Christ right the comforter through the
- 33:29
- Holy Spirit right I mean we have it so good compared to David he had times when he was filled with the Holy Spirit when it says the
- 33:35
- Holy Spirit came upon him but like when he's writing this song but we have an indwelling all the time mm -hmm and it's like we have it so good because we live on the other side of the redemptive plan yeah compared to David he's going please give me the joy of my salvation so I remember what it is to be so happy and joyful that I know that you've saved me yeah you know let's go to 14 as we round it out here we're getting almost all the way through this deliver me from blood guiltiness
- 34:02
- Oh God Oh God of my salvation there it is again salvation and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness so once again we're seeing you know in the blood guiltlessness is essentially condemnation yeah guilt yeah deliver me from this guilt oh my gosh this stuff that you know and I think
- 34:18
- I can speak for both of us that we've dealt with guilt before in our lives right oh man when you know you've sinned against the
- 34:24
- Holy God I know our listeners out there have dealt with it and you just you feel that that dread that grief that yeah
- 34:31
- I hope you do at least right oh yeah if you call yourself a believer and you're sinning willy -nilly and it doesn't harm or affect you in any way or make you feel any grief
- 34:38
- I would say real real reevaluate value yeah because we we need to know that that sin how it how it's how sin against God should make us feel yeah and full and so true full of grief yep all right how about verse 15 what's what does that one say
- 34:56
- Oh Lord open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise hmm
- 35:03
- I had this in my notes I don't know if this makes any sense but I had guilt has closed lips repentance has open lips okay
- 35:10
- I don't know does that make any sense guilt has open no no guilt has closed
- 35:15
- Oh closed lips oh yeah yeah if you're guilty of a sin you're not gonna oh yeah you're not gonna go talk about if you're guilty of a sin you're gonna hold it in and go
- 35:22
- I don't want to talk I don't want to I can't proclaim the goodness of God I'm full of guilt I know I have this sin of my life
- 35:27
- I haven't repented I haven't confessed my sins to one another like Jay like the New Testament is it James New Testament where's it confess our sins one another right but repentance has open lips oh
- 35:39
- I've been forgiven yeah I've repented and so I don't know that was like almost seven years ago
- 35:44
- I had that in the side of my notes that guilt has closed lips means it's quiet it's pent up it doesn't profess the good things of God when you're holding guilt but repentance brings open lips and profession right when you hear confession do you see it sound well it sounds like well yeah not like that I guess whatever like you're confessing a sin do you see that corporate or do you see that more of a one -on -one with your pastor and your wife hey this happened you know and I'm I know
- 36:25
- I'm just throwing this out I would say there we did not talk about this don't have an answer don't worry we're not yeah biblical scholar yeah right my first you know we're gonna put that out there yeah but my first inkling is you gotta say in context
- 36:39
- James writing to a group of people in a letter that's being read to probably a hundred people at a time yeah so if you would if he would want it to be one -on -one
- 36:49
- I think we'd have clarified that but if I'm reading something that says confess your sins to one another there's a hundred people listening to it yeah 50 people 20 people yeah
- 36:58
- I'm guessing that's corporate that you need to be like hey everybody no
- 37:03
- I would say that I would say what he's saying to one another he's it's in it within the context of writing to that body yeah to the believers so he's saying to a group of believers confess your sins to one another yeah whether that's one -on -one or corporately
- 37:16
- I don't think it's it's wrong either way I don't think it's specific enough to say that it has to be one -on -one
- 37:22
- I think I was now Christ gave very specific one -on -one go to your brother right yeah you know church discipline that was
- 37:29
- Matthew 18 yeah and that is specific yeah I what do you think I mean when whenever I think of the mic being passed around and people being like hey yeah this week
- 37:39
- I blah blah blah you know that gets a little little weird and I think at in some in some degree to some degree it is you know maybe possibly not what we're supposed to like pass the mic around the church you know no
- 37:57
- I wasn't saying that I was saying not hiding hiding things between brothers and sisters right I think also there's discretion with the sin yeah look at if I'm in some if I'm a man and I'm in some type of sexual sin or some type of lust sin or I'm not gonna confess that to a body of people with 50 women in it exactly or even maybe confess that to another man struggling with that that might be pastor elder accountability a mentor whatever brother in Christ yeah but when
- 38:26
- I say corporately I'm saying there's nothing wrong with a pastor an elder or a brother or sister in Christ talking to teaching to small small group home church whatever yeah and saying oh
- 38:37
- I've struggled with this and I've asked repentance for a right if it's you don't I mean yep so that's why
- 38:43
- I said I don't know but yeah passing them yeah man I've been in a service like that before and it was like yeah it's but I don't know because I don't know if that's genuine either though right there has to be you have to be genuine behind it if if that Wednesday at 7 p .m.
- 39:01
- every week I know that I've got to come up with three sins so yeah everyone else right because I'm getting the mic in 10 minutes yeah yeah and it's like I took $20 off the ground and didn't turn it into you know the customer gave me too much change back
- 39:13
- I think I was supposed to get 67 cents he gave me 68 cents and I don't know if that really is good in a corporate setting too like I said when you're in mixed company between the sexes
- 39:23
- I'm a big believer in women ministering to women men ministering to men yeah there is a time corporately when we all come together on the
- 39:32
- Lord's Day to discuss those things I have seen in certain churches where they will just have a corporate moment where people will just you know get on their knees and confess their sin to the you know just to God yeah out loud like everybody's screaming their sin but you know private but at the same time corporately which makes makes sense to a point in my brain
- 40:00
- I guess I don't know no I guess I should have clarified that too yeah I was I was at a church last year we went to a service and before the sermon started we all knelt down we all the elder prayed privately we took 20 to 30 seconds or a little longer than that yeah to the confessor since privately to the
- 40:19
- Lord so I think that was a good mix of there was some privacy there yeah but as as a body corporately we're all understanding we're all confessing sin right right exactly yeah exactly
- 40:28
- I don't know I'm pretty open on it I don't I don't agree with what you were saying I do I agree with what you're saying but yeah how that goes about I've been in those and I just I just feel like that can go a little too sideways right right but no being open to to confessing sins corporately or privately
- 40:46
- I would say the majority would be with with leadership yeah that's what I would yeah that's what
- 40:51
- I would think the major the majority of them yeah but again if anyone is out there that is struggling yeah just know that the body of Christ should be and and would be right there for you especially at a good sound biblical teaching church yeah just remember that you're not alone you know yeah for sure anyway so let's finish this up here we got three verses left so verse 16 for you will not delight in sacrifice or I would give it you will not be pleased with a burnt offering dude
- 41:31
- I read that and it's like yeah you don't delight in works yeah exactly like yeah there's nothing that you can do false humility works going through the motions religion legalism whatever you want to call it it says you're not going to delight in sacrifice or I would give it you will not be pleased with a burnt offering and then boom here's the arrow on the heart the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit and a contrite heart a broken and contrite heart yeah
- 41:58
- I'm sorry and a contrary art of that God you will not despise yeah I had a note here too that said a true sacrifice is a broken and contrite heart
- 42:07
- Psalm 34 18 the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit men despise things that are broken
- 42:14
- God does not in our weakness his power is perfected that was a note from about five years ago so good yeah but I just like how that plays off of Psalm 34 18 that's one of my favorite verses probably when when families are going through death or going through a really hard situation you know the
- 42:33
- Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit just shows us once again how loving the
- 42:39
- God is that we serve yeah how compassionate how merciful how full of grace he is and here we have
- 42:46
- David telling us oh yeah just some sacrifice I rip off with some prime bull that I have ten thousand of on the hillside because I'm King yeah you don't care about that you care about it broken and contrite heart you won't despise it mm -hmm that's good stuff yeah good then as we finish up here on 18 and 19
- 43:03
- I do like that he's taking it from a personal prayer then almost into a corporate prayer he never leaves out his country men he never leaves out the country that he's king of it says do good to Zion in your good pleasure build up the walls of Jerusalem then you will delight in right sacrifices in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings and bulls will be offered on your altar yeah
- 43:27
- I love that even after all that that brokenness that guilt that don't look at my sin please forgive me then he comes back in the last tune he's like but don't forget
- 43:37
- Israel the promise right the country the remnant build up the walls of Jerusalem so you'll have right righteous sacrifices in our country still always the
- 43:47
- I don't say politician but always the leader yeah that he was anointed to be when he was there as his people remembers his people remembers the plan of redemption through the remnant through the obviously through David's lineage to what a good that's so good that's such a great song yeah
- 44:05
- I mean working through it I mean just the the just like the title said created me a clean heart
- 44:14
- Oh God you know remember repenting yeah you know working there was a there was a church song that we used to sing wasn't there a song creating me oh no that's a
- 44:26
- Keith Green song oh he just ripped Psalm 51 oh really created me a clean heart
- 44:31
- Oh God and renew a right spirit within me huh yeah okay
- 44:39
- I don't sorry that just popped in my head my ADD just kicked in yeah right you were trying to say some serious man when you just said that I was thinking about Leonard Cohen's hallelujah because in that you know he says your faith is strong you needed proof you saw her bathing on the roof
- 44:58
- Oh beauty in the moonlight overthrew you you know she tied you to your kitchen chair she broke your throne she cut your hair from her lips she drew a hallelujah so he's talking about David and Samson yeah actually within that but and you know in a in a somewhat different way but it's it's just yeah
- 45:18
- I mean David is is that character man he's the bluesman you know I really think that you know you could make a blues tune out of Psalm 51
- 45:28
- I might actually do that I don't know maybe we could do what if we did we did it but yeah man but anyway yeah great great great reading and yeah thank you guys for trekking along yeah guys thanks so much for listening and hanging in there with us we went a little longer than expected but man when you're talking about the
- 45:45
- Word of God who doesn't love just digging into it yeah yeah you know and like Jason said if any of you are struggling with something like this one get in the word man yeah get in the word and surround yourself in prayer and in the word too
- 46:00
- I would say and I think Jason would agree with this too if you're attending a church you need to sit down with your shepherd and your elders yeah and accountability is key yes you repent and ask forgiveness from God but it also commands us to be accountable to our brothers and sisters in the
- 46:17
- Lord confess our sins to one another and we would encourage you in that but yeah so hard to have to read that so hard to go out on like I know there's no way no
- 46:29
