If you want to open your Bibles with me today we're going to be turning our attention to Luke chapter 16 and we're going to focus our attention on verses 19 through the end of the chapter.

This is one of the most interesting and I would say sometimes one of the most perplexing of the stories that Jesus told and oftentimes we talk about the stories that Jesus told we talk we call them parables but I have a difficult time calling this one a parable because I'm not sure if this really is a parable even though in some of your Bibles it will be the the text heading will say the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.

However I am of the mind that this may not be a parable at all but that this may actually be an account of something that actually happened.

So if we begin at verse 19 it says there was a rich man who was clothed in fine excuse me who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day and at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus covered with sores who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table moreover even the dogs came and licked his sores.
