The Body of Christ and Spiritual Gifts in 1 Corinthians 12

So many people miss the beauty of 1 Corinthians chapter 12 and the discussion of spiritual gifts because they so focus on these certain gifts, these sign gifts of speaking in tongues and healings, and yet what they end up missing is the whole context of really what chapter 12 is trying to teach us.

When you read through all of 1 Corinthians chapter 12, and no, I'm not going to do that whole chapter in a two-minute podcast, but when you do, you realize the overarching theme of 1 Corinthians chapter 12 is that we, each as individual members of the one body called the church, we are all gifted, different from one another, to serve the same body differently.

Your eye sees. It doesn't act like a hand. It doesn't have a sense of smell. He makes that argument, that we all have our own purposes within the church. So every local church is specifically gifted with specific people to serve that specific.

Body.

Serving the Church with the Gift God Has Given You

So if you sit in church and think, well, I don't have much to offer, I'm not the pastor, I'm not someone that's very learned. God has gifted you to serve in your local body, the church, the way that only you can serve that body.

God has uniquely gifted each one of us to serve where he has us to serve. So never say, I'm not like so-and-so, or I'm not gifted.

No.

God gives every believer a spiritual gift that's specifically designed to serve the body that he puts them in. So go serve.
