- 00:04
- This is why abortion is still legal. Failure to provide equal protection of the laws. With Roe v.
- 00:10
- Wade now overturned, many are hailing this praiseworthy moment as a victory, and rightfully so.
- 00:17
- The Supreme Court had a duty to do before God and correct the wrong of a past atrocity.
- 00:23
- They acknowledge this illegitimacy of Roe and that decision. For this, we should give
- 00:29
- God all the glory and praise. However, the federal government also had a duty to ensure that the states provided all of its citizens with equal protection of the laws, in accordance with the 14th
- 00:42
- Amendment of the Constitution. Babies in the womb are persons after all. Instead, the
- 00:48
- Supreme Court washed its hands of the responsibility to do what justice fully required of them by saying to the states, you decide.
- 00:59
- Therefore, while we celebrate the end of Roe, it is inaccurate to say that abortion is now illegal in our land.
- 01:06
- Abortion is not illegal anywhere. How can that be, you may ask? Aren't abortion providers closing up shop?
- 01:14
- What about trigger bills? Aren't states passing bans of various kinds on when and how abortions can take place?
- 01:22
- Well, yes, but this in no way means that abortion is actually illegal. If abortion was illegal, then all abortions would be illegal.
- 01:32
- But the fact remains that in all 50 states, mothers are still allowed to kill their preborn children.
- 01:39
- The reason? No state has affirmed the equal value of babies in the womb by protecting their lives with the same laws that protect our lives.
- 01:50
- Mothers can still have DIY abortions, whether by pills or potions, anywhere, even up to the moment of birth in some states.
- 02:00
- In what other situation of homicide is any party involved with the taking of a life exempt from being subject to the justice system?
- 02:09
- Abortion is the only case of homicide in which the perpetrator of a crime is automatically ruled out from any legal recourse.
- 02:19
- This is vitally important to understand because often a false dichotomy is set up between abolitionists and those in the mainstream pro -life movement.
- 02:29
- Pro -life leaders will say that they believe the abortionist should be pursued legally, unlike abolitionists over here who say that the mother should be pursued legally.
- 02:40
- But this is a false choice. The reality is that abolitionists are for prosecuting abortionists, but we are also for allowing the mother to be prosecuted as well.
- 02:53
- And it is up to the justice system to decide each case of homicide by the formal rule of law on the basis of its own merits, just like in any other case
- 03:03
- That is what is meant by equal protection of the laws. The baby in the womb must have the same standards of justice to protect them as everyone else.
- 03:16
- Because God's Word commands us not to have unequal weights and measures in the consideration of legal matters, justice must be applied equally, which can only be done if all responsible parties are answerable, whether they be perpetrators, accomplices, or co -conspirators to the act itself.
- 03:39
- Consider for a moment how unacceptable it would be in the case of a mother that killed her born child to disqualify her from the legal process altogether based on arbitrary factors like her emotional state or her circumstances, the way so many do when it comes to the mom that kills her own pre -born child.
- 04:01
- None of these things have any bearing on the necessity for justice to be done. Opponents of equal protection advance several caricatures against it, but in standing against it, one of two things become clear.
- 04:14
- Number one, they either don't believe that a fetus is actually a person, or therefore violating the constitution and the law of God itself.
- 04:25
- As Christians concerned with justice for the pre -born, we need to get this right so that we are not guilty of the kind of prejudicial bigotry that many pro -life leaders engage in when they reject due process for the baby in the womb.
- 04:41
- We must do as James says, and fulfill the royal law of scripture by loving our neighbor as we love ourselves, so that we do not show partiality and convict ourselves under the law.
- 04:54
- Equal protection is the way we end abortion in our nation. As long as we fail to meet the demands of justice, children will continue to be murdered.
- 05:05
- It's time to love our neighbor as ourselves, and to actually apply the commandment of Christ in the legal realm as it relates to pre -born children.
