Of God as it exists today. Now James has said that in fact the errors that have been put into the copies have been tenacious and they have stuck with us. I hope James realizes how true that statement is.

Textual Variants That Remain in Modern Bibles

In fact some of the errors have stuck with us and are now represented in our Bibles. Sometimes they are marked off as being doubtful passages. The John in comma, a verse which is so called and is located at 1st John chapter 5 verse 7 in the King James version of the Bible says that there are three that bear record in heaven and that these three are one.

But now it is almost universally accepted, except for King James followers, who it is almost universally accepted that this verse is a later insertion into the Bible and this is why it has been removed from almost every modern Bible.

If you look at the New International Version Bible for example, you will find a note at that point showing that this is an insertion and it has now been removed once again. But some others are still there, very glaring, large portions.

The Ending of Mark and the Earliest Manuscripts

For example the closing passage of the Gospel according to Mark. The earliest manuscript we have of Mark ends at chapter 16 verse number 8. Verses number 9 to 20 therefore, which you will find in many modern Bibles, even if they are not marked off to be so, is a later addition into the Gospel according to Mark and therefore this is of dubious and questionable origins.

The Persistence of Scribal Errors in the Bible

So I hope James understands to what extent his statement is true, that the errors are in fact tenacious. Some have even remained in our Bibles today.
