Most of us have, over the past few days, been somewhat assaulted with a discussion that has entered into at least
00:19
American culture. I would imagine it's not that big a story overseas, thankfully. Two things, well, part of it would be a big story overseas, and that is the
00:29
Roman Polanski issue, his arrest on an outstanding warrant from three decades ago for, admittedly, engaging in the rape of a 13 -year -old girl, which involved the use of drugs and alcohol and so on and so forth.
00:51
It has been absolutely disgusting to watch the media, and especially the
00:58
Hollywood elites, jumping on the bandwagon on this issue, in essence arguing that time brings about forgiveness of even the most grievous sins.
01:12
Or is it more just making allegedly good movies is what atones for grave sins?
01:20
It is interesting to think on how people deal with the issue of sin and punishment, and how time, even if you're not being punished, somehow applies to atonement.
01:36
It is a perverse way of thinking. But then just last evening, it came out on the
01:44
David Letterman show that someone was illegally blackmailing
01:49
David Letterman. That's a moral crime in and of itself. But what really struck me as I watched this morning on the news programs, as Mr.
02:00
Letterman described the activities he had been engaged in that resulted in this blackmailing, that when he came straight out and said what he had done, that the audience applauded.
02:20
Even he looked like he didn't know exactly what to do with that, but the audience applauded.
02:27
They applauded that this man had been engaged in multiple sexual encounters with women on his staff.
02:37
And both of these situations has once again illustrated for me the fact that functionally in our society, the foundations that had been provided by a recognition of the existence of God, and that He is our
02:55
Creator, and as our Creator has the right to determine how we behave, what is right and wrong, what is moral and what is not moral, and that because these are transcendent values, that we should care about them, that we should recognize that we can't change these things, since that's gone.
03:17
The result in our society is devastating. It's truly the dehumanization of humanity.
03:26
We see people living without purpose. We are merely highly evolved animals now, and animals do things like that, and hey, if one animal rapes another animal and then makes pretty movies, then all should be well, because there is no final bar of justice, no standards.
03:49
We truly damage our children, our grandchildren, when we give in to this.
03:57
And it's a daily assault. If we are not every day being exposed to the
04:02
Word of God and to the Spirit of God using the Word to build us up in the
04:07
Christian faith and to repair the constant damage that is being done by our society, it will not be long before we think and act and feel like the world, and I'm afraid that that is exactly what is going on for many people who call themselves
04:25
Christians today. And so, expose yourself to the Word of God, ponder its truths deeply, allow the worldview that is plainly presented in God's Word to be something that's precious to you, because it really is a matter of life.
04:45
It matters how we look at the world around us and how we respond, especially to the evil that we see around us.
04:52
Just a few thoughts. Thanks for listening. God bless. God bless.
