15:42
Malachi chapter 4 For behold the day is coming Burning like an oven when all the arrogant and all the evildoers will be stubble
15:52
The day that is coming shall set them ablaze says the Lord of hosts so that it will leave them neither root nor branch
16:00
But for you who fear my name the Son of Righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings
16:07
You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall and you shall tread down the wicked
16:12
For they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act says the
16:17
Lord of hosts Remember the law of my servant Moses and the statutes and the rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all of Israel Behold I will send
16:27
Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes and he will turn the hearts of the
16:33
Fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers lest I come and strike the land with the decree of utter
16:41
Destruction. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God The epistle is taken from Romans chapter 15
16:50
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction That through endurance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope
17:00
May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another in accord with Christ Jesus that together you may with one voice glorify the

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you for the glory of God For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show

God's truthfulness in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs and in order that the
17:31
Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy as It is written Therefore I will praise you among the
17:37
Gentiles and sing to your name and again it is said rejoice O Gentiles with his people and again praise the
17:45
Lord all you Gentiles and let the peoples extol him and again Isaiah says the root of Jesse will come even he who arises to rule the

Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God Oh Holy Gospel according to st.
18:35
Luke the 21st chapter Jesus said and there will be signs in the
18:49
Sun and the moon and stars and on the earth the stress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the seas and the waves
18:57
People fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world for the powers of the heaven
19:04
Heavens will be shaken and then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory
19:11
Now when these things begin to take place Straighten up and raise your heads because your redemption is drawing near and he told them a parable
19:20
Look at the fig tree and all the trees as soon as they come out and leaf you see for yourselves and know that summer
19:26
Is already near so also when you see these signs taking place You know that the kingdom of God is near truly
19:34
I say to you this generation will not pass away until all has taken place heaven and earth will pass away
19:40
But my words will not pass away But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the cares of this life and that day come upon You suddenly like a trap for it'll come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth

But stay awake at all times Praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place and to stand before the

24:28
Yea, our Saviour, take the
24:53
Palestine away.
25:45
In the name of Jesus, amen. So, this is a penitential season, and you're going to note that we're taking another look at the end of the world today.
25:55
Lo, he comes with clouds descending, we just sang. And you're going to note there really isn't any bad news for Christians here.
26:03
There is, indeed, bad news for those who arrogantly persist in sin and unbelief.
26:09
And what an interesting text we have in our Old Testament text to begin with. Listen to the words again of the prophet
26:15
Malachi. For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all the evildoers will be stubble.
26:25
Have you ever had the experience of basically sharing your faith with somebody who is an unbeliever?
26:30
And they got really upset, really mad, and they accused you of being arrogant.
26:37
You know, it kind of goes something like this. Well, you know, what do you believe? I believe in Jesus Christ. What does that mean?
26:44
Well, I believe that there's salvation only in Jesus Christ. And then they react.
26:49
You can hear the volcano rumbling, and then it just goes off. What? That is the most arrogant and terrible thing
26:59
I've ever heard. Are you saying that your religion is the only religion that's right, that's correct?
27:05
That is the most arrogant. That is the most selfish. And they just vomit out, right?
27:11
And you'll note here, the Scriptures teach that they're the ones being arrogant.
27:17
We who've been humbly brought to penitent faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins, whose mind is being renewed daily by the
27:26
Word of God, as we continue daily by the power of the Holy Spirit to mortify our sinful flesh and its passions, to put to death the false doctrine and false teaching that our old
27:37
Adam loves to hang on to, that as we humbly walk in God's Word, we believe what
27:45
His Word tells us. It is arrogance to contradict God.
27:51
It is arrogance to say that there is salvation in every religion, including
27:57
Christianity, but also including Islam, including Buddhism, including Jainism, including
28:02
Mormonism and all the other isms out there, right? That's complete arrogance. And so the script gets flipped when
28:10
Christ returns, and the truth about who's really arrogant and who's really humble now is revealed in stark, stark words.
28:20
And so, again, the day of the Lord is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all the evildoers will be stubble, and the day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the
28:32
Lord of hosts, so they'll leave them neither root nor branch. Yeah, God's view of those who persist in sin and unbelief is that they're stubble to be burned up, reference to the fires of hell, though.
28:46
And you'll note then, things now change in this text. There's the negative bit, but here's the positive bit.
28:54
And this is, you'll note, designed to give us encouragement, to give us hope, not to cause us to despair.
29:00
Listen to the words. But for you who fear my name, listen to these words, the son of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.
29:10
This kind of works out pretty well in English, by the way. It doesn't quite have the same wordplay in Hebrew and other languages.
29:17
But you'll note, the son of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. That's a reference to Christ's second coming.
29:23
He is the son, S -O -N, of righteousness. And the healing in his wings that he will have will be to raise you and I from the dead and gloriously, gloriously resurrect us so that we now no longer have mortal bodies that are subject to corruption because of sin, but immortal bodies, bodies that will live forever in the new earth.
29:46
And then he describes the joy that we will experience when Christ returns. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.
29:55
You shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act, says the
30:01
Lord of hosts. Beautiful text. Note here, if this is a penitential season, what's our motivation for repentance?
30:12
The kindness of God. Because we all know, you don't have to convince any of us, we all know, none of us deserve this.
30:19
None of us has earned God's salvation, this salvation, this eternal life by our good works, by our obedience to God's law.
30:26
Far from it. If we were to depend upon God's law and our obedience in order to save us, none of us would be saved.
30:35
And that's kind of the big problem out there with all the false religions of the world, is they all teach a de facto works righteousness.
30:43
You do the right things. You say the right prayers. You light the right candles. You put the right amount of money in the offering plate.
30:49
And you do the doings and the stuff and the things. And then maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe you'll make it.
30:57
But we don't want to be arrogant and presume that we have salvation. Man, totally backwards.
31:05
It is absolutely arrogant to contradict God and to say to Christians, oh, you shouldn't be so sure that you have salvation.
31:14
After all, I know that it says that salvation is by grace through faith and that it's a gift of God.
31:21
It's not of our own doing or things like that. But you can't think that way.
31:27
That's just arrogant. No, it's not. It's humbling. And so as we consider then this next text, our gospel text,
31:38
I'm going to grab something from a strange place and kind of help us out here.
31:43
Because you'll note then that the arrogant are constantly nipping at our heels.
31:50
And at times in human history, the arrogant get the upper hand in the government. And as a result of it,
31:56
Christians suffer horrible persecutions. And so in our lifetime, we'll note that we are in the last waning days of Western civilization, of what used to be called
32:08
Christendom. But that's no longer a thing. In fact, a good way to think about it is that that's kind of an abnormal thing for Christians to get along well with others and people to kind of think kindly of them and just to leave them alone.
32:28
Normally, Christians are persecuted. So we're coming to the end of those days when we're not going to be vexed by people who want us dead.
32:36
And so we have to go back a little bit to a text that I think is a little bit odd for this, but it fits perfectly.
32:45
Do you remember in Daniel chapter 2? Daniel chapter 2, King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream.
32:52
Judah is in exile because of their impenitent idolatry. And now they are literally in exile under King Nebuchadnezzar.
33:00
And nobody could accuse Nebuchadnezzar of being a sound, reasonable, kind fellow with an even temper or things like this.
33:08
In fact, he was far from any of that. And he had a dream that God had given him. And that dream needed an interpretation.
33:17
And he refused to tell the dream to his magicians and sorcerers and enchanters because he didn't want them to try to basically pull the wool over his eye and say, well, here's the interpretation after they considered what the dream was.
33:29
And so he said to them, I'm not going to tell you the dream, but you need to tell me both the dream and its interpretation.
33:36
And they said, no, no king has ever asked for anything like this. Only God can give an answer like that.
33:43
And so it turns out as the story goes, Nebuchadnezzar, his volcanic anger explodes and he wants to basically murder all of the magicians and enchanters and the chief guys in charge of his government.
33:58
And Daniel is able to have a word with him, at least by some time.
34:04
He has himself and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego pray in haste, a very hasty supplication to asking
34:11
God for mercy. God answers their prayer, gives Daniel both the dream and its interpretation.
34:18
And it has a lot to do with our gospel text today. It really does. So listen to Daniel and his interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream from Daniel 2, verse 31.
34:29
He says, Daniel said, You saw, O king, and behold, a great image, this image mighty and exceeding brightness.
34:38
It stood before you and its appearance was frightening.
34:43
So Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about an image that was bright and note the word frightening.
34:51
What follows next is, well, a description of the rest of this particular image.
34:58
The head of this image was a fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its middle and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.
35:07
And as you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand and it struck the image on its feet of iron and clay and broke them in pieces.
35:16
And then the iron and the clay, the bronze and the silver and the gold all together were broken in pieces and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them could be found.
35:31
But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
35:38
Interesting vision. Now the interpretation. This was the dream. Now I will tell you its interpretation.
35:44
You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power and the might and the glory, and into whose hand he has given, wherever they dwell, the children of man, the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, making you rule over all of them.
36:00
You are the head of gold. Another kingdom inferior to you shall arise after you, and yet a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.
36:09
And there shall be a fourth kingdom strong as iron, because iron breaks to pieces and shatters all things.
36:16
And like iron that crushes, it shall break and crush all of these. And as you saw the feet and the toes partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom.
36:27
But some of the firmness of iron shall be in it, just as you saw iron mixed with the soft clay. And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so the kingdom shall be partly iron, partly strong and partly brittle.
36:40
As you saw the iron mixed with soft clay, so they will mix with one another in marriage. But they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay.
36:50
And in the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people.
37:01
It shall break in pieces all of these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever.
37:11
Just as you saw that the stone that was cut from a mountain by no human hand and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, the gold, a great
37:21
God has made known to the king what shall be after this. The dream is certain, its interpretation sure."
37:28
So think this through with me. Nebuchadnezzar has a dream about a frightening image, and the image is, according to the interpretation, basically about all the kingdoms of the earth, and God basically saying,
37:46
I'm going to bring all of this to an end. And so if you were to think about it, since the top of this image, its face is a
37:54
Babylonian image and made of gold that references the Babylonian Empire, a good way to think of this is that that image is kind of a depiction of what's called
38:04
Mystery Babylon, and this has to do with all the nations of the world and in the ways in which they oppress people.
38:15
Why would Christians be afraid of their government? Because, I don't know if you guys have noticed, it just seems like it's not too long from now, before the
38:25
U .S. government in particular isn't going to really tolerate biblical Christianity. And you'll note that our leaders seem to be hell -bent on not obeying
38:35
God's commands and enacting laws in accordance with what is true justice and true righteousness, but instead they seem hell -bent on enacting laws that basically undo true justice and true righteousness.
38:49
And you Christians, if you even raise a voice in protest, you'll be shouted down, you'll be canceled, and we'll find a way to have you lose your job and things like this.
39:01
Yeah, think that through. So note then that in this prophecy, in this prophetic dream, we have a rock that was not hewn by human hands that comes and smashes the kingdoms of the earth, brings them, as it says, to an end.
39:18
And then this rock, it grows and grows and fills the entire earth. That rock is Christ, by the way, we know that.
39:25
So when we look at our gospel text here, again, watch the dichotomy.
39:31
The dichotomy between those who refuse to hear the gospel, refuse to believe the gospel, refuse to repent of their sins, and be forgiven of their sins, and what will come of them in the last days, compared to Christians.
39:50
Christians, you know, a completely different outcome altogether. So it says in our gospel text today,
39:56
Jesus says that in the very last of the last days, there will be signs in the sun and the moon and the stars, and on earth the distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
40:22
And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
40:29
So you'll see what's going on here from the cross references. The signs in the sun and the moon and the stars, we know what those are.
40:38
There's a day coming when, and you don't have to imagine this, because we all kind of know how when the world goes into panic mode, how this is going to play out.
40:47
But there's going to be a day coming. Maybe it'll happen overnight while you're sleeping. Maybe it'll happen during the day while you're at work.
40:55
But regardless of when and where it happens, it'll happen. And that is that the sun will no longer be giving the light that it gives, that beautiful white light that we get from the sun.
41:07
That will be extinguished, and the only thing left will be, well, the dim light of a dying star turned red.
41:19
And so this is what's coming. And then the moon itself, since it reflects the sunlight, it will no longer shine like it has for all of these millennia, but instead will look like blood in the sky.
41:32
And when that happens, everybody on earth, all the nations of the earth, all the governments of the world are going to go in full panic mode.
41:42
You think it was hard to find toilet paper during COVID. Good luck finding toilet paper after this.
41:48
It ain't going to happen. That being the case, you'll note that everybody who is an unbeliever, this is going to cause them great anxiety, perplexity, panic, people fainting as a result of all of this.
42:05
And then to make matters even worse, then the stars themselves will fall from the sky.
42:11
They will disappear altogether. And you'll note then that what happens is that everybody panics.
42:21
Everybody panics. They'll see the sign of the Son of Man coming up in the heavens, and everybody is in complete pandemonium.
42:30
What are we going to do? What's coming on the earth? People fainting with fear, foreboding of what's coming in the world.
42:37
But Jesus says these words to us, we who believe in him. Now, when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads because your redemption is drawing near.
42:55
I'm sure you all have seen the movie Titanic, right? As the ship is starting to slip into the sea, and the front of it is going into the ocean, you have all these people running around trying to figure out what to do.
43:07
Some people throwing deck chairs into the ocean, seeing if they will float, and people just in complete panic.
43:16
That's going to be what it's like when all of this goes down. But we, on the other hand, rather than in complete panic,
43:22
Christ tells us when you see these last signs, right before he returns, straighten up and go,
43:30
Jesus is just around the corner. I might even bake a cake.
43:36
I don't know how long it's going to be before Christ shows up once these last signs appear, but we have nothing to fear.
43:46
And as a result of it, Christ tells us who have humbly confessed our sins, who have humbly been brought to contrition, who humbly cry out to God for mercy and for forgiveness, that because we are forgiven, we have been given faith, because we have been reconciled to God.
44:08
And we hear his words and abide in his words as Christ says that that's what Christians do.
44:16
When these signs show up, it is going to be joy.
44:22
It is going to be excitement. It's going to be like Christmas Eve when you're a seven -year -old kid.
44:30
You can't sleep at night because you know that as soon as you wake up in the morning, there's going to be presents under the tree, and you get to open them, and it's going to be fantastic.
44:40
It's that kind of thing, and the dichotomy couldn't be starker. I mean, the difference between the two couldn't be starker, because those who persist in sin and unbelief, they have their minds set completely on the things of this world.
44:56
In fact, that's what the Apostle Paul was kind of getting at in Ephesians chapter 2.
45:02
In Ephesians chapter 2, Paul basically says to all the Christians before they were
45:07
Christians, you, you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work and the sons of disobedience, among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and we were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind.
45:28
And so you'll note that all the nations of the earth right now in their secular way of looking at things and their way of looking down at Christians and persecuting them and other nations just literally driving them underground, all of this, all of their grand plans for making the world a glorious place, a worker's paradise and things like this is going to come crashing down.
45:54
And when they see that their doom is near, they panic, we rejoice.
46:02
That's the difference. And it's all because we know the truth that Christ has come into the world.
46:10
The son of God was incarnate, came to earth, and he submitted himself to God and to the authorities of his day, the
46:18
Roman Empire. And he submitted himself and was obedient even to the point of death and death on the cross in order to redeem us and save us from this futile world, this world where you don't live very long,
46:33
I don't live very long, and it's just a hard, mean existence of blood, sweat, toil, and tears, all because of our sin.
46:41
We are forgiven because of what Christ has done, carrying our sins in his body on the tree, bleeding and dying in your place and mine, giving us his righteousness in exchange.
46:52
He takes our iniquity and unrighteousness, and he takes on the full justice of God and what we have deserved by penalty so that we can be forgiven, pardoned, and have encouragement and hope of a future to come.
47:07
Again, the dichotomy cannot be stronger. When you see these things happen, when the world recognizes this whole thing is going to come to a screeching halt, there is no grand future for humanity, only a cold, dark end.
47:22
We, when we see this, we straighten up, we raise our heads. Our redemption is drawing near.
47:28
And so Jesus says, Look then at the fig tree and all the trees. As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves, and you know that summer is already near.
47:36
So also when you see these things take place, these last signs, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
47:43
So truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all of this has taken place.
47:49
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. The generation that sees those last signs, they will not pass away.
47:57
You can then raise your head and know that our redemption draws near. But Christ gives a stern warning here, and one that we need to take into consideration because he is encouraging us through these words, but also encouraging us to not lose heart and as a result of it get caught back up in all the cares of this world and all the nonsense about it.
48:22
The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, the lust for power. And I would say all the stuff that distracts us from a sound, pious faith in Christ regarding all the conspiracy theories and all the horrible things that are taking place in government and behind the scenes and the deep state and all that kind of stuff.
48:43
Just don't even focus on that. He says, listen, watch yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation.
48:52
Dissipation is like going on a multi -week long bender of either drugs or alcohol or something like that.
48:59
And then the drunkenness and the cares of this life and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.
49:06
It's really easy just to say, you know, there's too many important things going on in the world.
49:11
I can't be completely checked out. I just need to jump in and just, you know, the cares of this world are overwhelming.
49:19
We've got to do something about this. And as a result of it, you end up in drunkenness, dissipation, and all this other nonsense.
49:25
So that now you no longer attend church. Now you no longer hear the word of God.
49:31
Now you no longer receive the sacraments. Now you no longer even read the Bible or pray. And when you go into that mode, time seems to speed up.
49:42
And when times speed up like that, this day, or even the day of your own death, will come upon you suddenly like a trap.
49:51
It'll come upon all who dwell on the face of the earth. But Christ admonishes us, stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place and to stand before the
50:04
Son of Man. And how does one stay awake? Keep coming to church. Keep hearing the word of God.
50:11
Keep hearing your sins being forgiven. Keep receiving the body and blood of Christ. This is how we stay awake.
50:18
Keep in the word and let God's word transform you. The one who believes in Jesus, who loves
50:24
Jesus, abides in his word. And this is what we're called to. And the one who does so stays awake in faith rather than going into the sleep of sin so that they're awakened with a start when
50:36
Jesus returns, and they're caught completely off guard. So, brothers and sisters, this second
50:43
Sunday of Advent, I am struck again by the great kindness of Christ, that the call for repentance during this
50:51
Advent season is not that if you don't repent, you're going to get a good beating. Instead, the call for repentance is based upon the fact that you are already in Christ.
51:02
You trust him. You believe in him. And so as you see the world spiraling out of control and the universe coming to a cataclysmic end, note then that we can raise our heads and we can know that our redemption draws near, and Jesus is indeed our redemption.
51:22
And when the Son of Righteousness rises, he will come with healing in his wings, and he will say to each and every one of us,
51:29
Well done, good and faithful servant. And then he will open the gate and let us into that new earth.
51:35
And the joy that we will experience can only be described as the leaping of a calf.
51:40
What amazing things that we will see in that day. So be encouraged. Continue in prayer.
51:47
Ask God to give you strength to escape the things that are going to take place and to give you faith and confidence in Jesus Christ so that you may stand before him on this day, not in shame, but in awe, holy awe and thanksgiving for the great gift that he's given you in your salvation.
52:07
In the name of Jesus, amen. All right, let me get back to sharing my screen.
52:21
Hold on a second here. We confess our faith together then in the words of the
52:31
Apostles' Creed. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only
52:40
Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
52:51
He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the
52:59
Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the
53:04
Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
53:14
Amen. All right, give me a moment. I've got to grab my prayers. And today as we pray,
53:49
I'm going to say these words. I'm going to say, let us pray to the Lord, and then together we will all say,
53:57
Lord, have mercy. In peace let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.
54:04
For steadfastness in the word of Christ, our incarnate judge, that ever mindful of his coming we may live in harmony with one another and together glorify him.
54:14
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. We pray for our congregation, that in the word of Christ, which does not pass away, we would find the strength to endure whatever trials our
54:25
Lord sees fit to send us. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For those who have not heard the gospel, that the
54:35
God of comfort would send pastors and missionaries to proclaim the saving gospel, and that the
54:41
Holy Spirit would cause them to abound in hope, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.
54:47
For the schools of the church and our baptized children, that our people may constantly be nurtured in the hope of our redemption at Christ's appearing, let us pray to the
54:58
Lord. Lord, have mercy. For joy and skill in our various vocations, that we may faithfully serve
55:06
God with cleansed minds, awaiting the day of our Lord's return, let us pray to the
55:11
Lord. Lord, have mercy. We pray for our nation and armed forces, and for all the nations of the world, that those entrusted with positions of public service might serve honorably and well for the protection of others.
55:25
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. We pray for the ill, the lonely, the homebound, the depressed, and those near death, and those in any need.
55:37
Especially today do we remember Elizabeth, Jeremy, Allen, Debbie, Paul, Carrie, Becky, Jim, Steve, Christopher, Sheila, Ron, Melba, Joanne, Bill, Michael, Cameron, Troy, Jim, Chloe, Ellen, Brooks, Gary, Natalie, Deb, Taryn, Candy, Todd, Bonnie, Brent, Roger, Kevin, Mark, Jeff, Joan, Sarah, Jessica, Josh, Ryan, Tim, Lori, Mike, Shirley, and Carol.

57:04
We also pray for the family of Jose Estramera. We ask that all those we remember before the
57:11
Lord that he would shine his face on those who call upon him. Let us pray to the Lord.
57:16
Lord, have mercy. Holy God, your anger at our sin is just, and yet your mercy abounds to us for redemption.
57:23
Grant us repentant hearts that we would not continue in sin or wander away from the faith, but rather recognize our sin, turn from it, and receive your forgiveness.
57:33
Grant us a clear conscience for Christ's sake that we may live joyfully and without fear through the same
57:39
Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one
57:45
God now and forever. Amen. Before we continue with the offertory, just a reminder that we don't pass a plate at Kongsvinger, but if this ministry, if the work of Kongsvinger has served you and benefited you and helped you grow in your own knowledge and understanding of the
58:14
Word, and given you great confidence in the forgiveness of sins of Jesus Christ, we would ask that you would consider supporting
58:20
Kongsvinger with your offerings. And there's a QR code that you can use for doing that online.
58:27
So let's continue now with the offertory. Give me a moment here.
59:48
We continue now with hymn 338. Our fears and sins release us let us find our rest in thee
01:01:10
Israel strength and consolation hope of dear desire of every nation joy of every longing heart called to deliver born a child and yet a king born to reign in us forever now thy gracious kingdom bring by thine eternal spirit rule in us by thine grace on us to thy glorious throne
01:02:33
Taught by our Lord and trusting in his promises, we're bold to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
01:02:41
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.
01:03:02
Amen. Let us pray. Blessed Lord, you have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning.
01:03:08
Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them that by patience and comfort of your holy word we may embrace and ever hold fast to the blessed hope of everlasting life through Jesus Christ our
01:03:21
Lord. Amen. The Lord bless you and keep you.
01:03:30
The Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace.
01:03:37
Amen. Closing hymn is 337. The night will soon be ending.
01:04:39
The dawn cannot be far. Let songs of praise ascending now greet the morning star.
01:04:54
All you whom darkness frightens with guilt or grief or pain.
01:05:03
God's radiant star now brightens and bids you sing again.
01:05:16
The one whom angels tended comes near a child to serve.
01:05:26
Thus God the judge offended bears all our sins deserve.
01:05:35
The guilty need not scour for God has reconciled through his redemptive power all those who trust this child.
01:05:56
The earth in sure rotation will soon bring morning bright.
01:06:05
So run where God's salvation glows in a stable's light.
01:06:15
As old as sin's perversion is mercy's vast design.
01:06:24
God brings a new creation. This child is seal and sign.
01:06:36
Yet nights will bring their sadness and rob our hearts of peace.
01:06:46
And sin in all its madness around us may increase.
01:06:56
But now one star is beaming whose rays have pierced the night.
01:07:04
God comes for our redeeming from sin's oppressive might.
01:07:18
God dwells with us in darkness and makes the light as day.
01:07:27
Yet we resist the brightness and turn from God away.
01:07:36
But grace does not forsake us, however far we run.
01:07:45
God claims us still as children in Mary's invent song.
01:08:00
Amen. Okay, so let's talk about what we're going to do here because I have to watch my time a little bit more carefully today because I probably still have to head out to Emmanuel.
01:08:10
All that being said, we're going to take a five to six -ish minute break and then we are going to have our walk through the book of Ezekiel continue.
01:08:23
And when we come back from our break, I'll make it possible for you guys to turn your video and stuff on now.
01:08:30
So, hang on a second. There we go. Security, so I make it so you guys can start your video.
01:08:39
There you go. So you guys can turn your videos on, but I need to get out of my vestments and then we'll get started shortly here.
