00:00
So, what's happened, coming to the list,
00:09
Hannah was born in, in the picture, yeah, I talk
00:15
Spanish, and then, working health issues, taking, when
00:25
I was 38, sometime possibly next year. So, you see a picture there, which was actually taken in February, while Rachel and I were there, later.
00:36
And then, that is the church building, he worked in town, there were a few believers, put the church together, if you like, plant a church there, in the town of Chammy.
00:49
When we left there, they had bought a plot of land, you see there is their church building now.
00:58
They've, you know, they've put up, mainly grew corn, yeah, sweet corn, or field corn
01:07
I guess. Do I need to stop moving around? Yeah, so that's, they've, yeah, some of it in a little more, but hard, and it's very nice.
01:18
So, and learners, you know, people learn tribal languages and so on, and church planting, strategy and that type of thing.
01:28
So that's what we did in Panama, Mexico, and helped with their consultant program.
01:34
And so that's what we did. And so we were there in early 2006, then 2013 years, is what we thought, taking care of, going through the school system is very different from the
01:52
U .N. It would have been fair for him to go back to England for one year, and do two, and then he wanted to study in England, and so, so we decided we'll stay in England for three years, get him through high school, see what we're going to do.
02:10
So, you know, we were looking at different parts of the North Coast, and neither of us really wanted to do that.
02:19
Particularly in Latin America, as much as we could, particularly, we don't get healthcare.
02:27
We don't. And we don't get insurance. Okay, how are we going to make this work?
02:36
A friend of mine has been for a long time, ever since he was working alongside him in Latin America, and like I say, we were in Colombia together.
02:50
The only detail is that Latin America and the U .K. are kind of a long way apart.
02:57
For us to be, to maintain a residency in the U .S., somewhere that we could call our own, somewhere that, you know, if the government asked us, we could say, yeah, that's right.
03:07
When things go wrong, I have to fix it. Yeah, it's a great system.
03:16
So, considering the possibilities, he didn't laugh at us, but we can point to and say, look, there's our salary.
03:24
So, the mortgage. And so, we walked out, and we've seen that the pieces have to fall into place.
03:34
Fall into place. We had to provide. So, we saw that, and now, which is a real mouthful, he asked me, so what can we do?
03:47
But we travel, we do. Not just the countries we've lived in, but in the training programs that we have there, with the people that are learning tribal languages, and other consultants to do that.
04:05
You don't have to go around. That's more than one person can do. To give you something of an idea of the types of things we do,
04:15
I'm going to tell you about our last trip. Facebook, you've probably seen more pictures than you care to say, and so on.
04:24
So, you have some, hopefully, give you updates. So, we were in Columbia for ten weeks.
04:34
And during that time, we had this inter -tribal groups.
04:41
And we traveled from all over Panama. There were about 70 people there.
04:52
And they expect you to speak Dutch, their common language. Now, but I'm smart enough to know that that's a day, for five days.
05:02
So, I didn't talk for about an hour each. What we did is, if you like, the theme of the conference was, and so the introduction, what does the church do?
05:15
The word of God, you know, what does the church do in its name?
05:21
And then how about discipleship? How are areas open? The churches did lots of questions, around 140 questions.
05:31
So, they would answer those questions. And each church then would stand up and give a report.
05:37
Challenges that they were facing. And some of the exciting things that they were seeing.
05:43
Challenges, the things that they were dealing with. And then, after lunch, but differently.
05:52
So, the churches were now all split up. And, you know, people in the same group, their discussion was challenges.
06:01
And so, there was a lot. And then, so, we again reported and came up with a list of, effectively had an action plan to go back and work on.
06:12
So, it was, we knew a lot of the church leaders. I forgot.
06:20
There you go. So, five different tribal groups. The guy, I'm not an Indian, but he's one. So, we went on.
06:30
Yeah. When you think of a church, how you normally think of the catering.
06:38
Because there was going to be some other meetings and so on after our conference.
06:43
And so, of course, we ate a lot of it as well. We came from Pukuroto.
06:52
And those of you with long memories, back in 92 or 93, church there.
07:00
Really, because I've been talking to their church leaders and hearing about the challenges.
07:06
So, anyway, on the way, as one does, in those types of climates, so they didn't kill it.
07:16
They kept it alive. I know, but we just don't know. Well, it was just like, because I didn't have it all the time.
07:25
And then, just one bowl, and that's, you know, they cooked what they're used to eating.
07:33
So, yeah, that was, yeah, it was like a little, one of the animals there, and then that's a bunch of.
07:41
So, I just want to mention, when we first moved into Piriati, their house, they weren't living in it anymore.
07:51
They'd built another house. And we moved, because they'd borrowed them, and they knew we, as we moved in.
07:57
Law, you know, which was, that's all it was. But anyway, we lived close to them. Really quite good friends with them.
08:04
We would share food, you know, we would exchange food very well with Sitra. Even, she doesn't speak much
08:09
Spanish. She kind of does, obviously, she prefers Embera. Having some marriage for about a week.
08:18
One of the church leaders, and I think in a lot of, before the conference.
08:26
And, you know, Sitra, when she was asking for prayer, you know, she said, oh, you know, we need help, and so on.
08:33
Because of, you know, some of these issues. Then, I'll sit with you. Keeping warm, can you believe that?
08:42
In the evening, I mean, 65 sometimes. So, but anyway,
08:48
I want to mention them, just, you know, particularly for those of you, that's your list of people to pray for.
08:55
To help with the, but. And, we went, one of the main things, to help with two tribal teams.
09:10
The Hukak, who changed in 1992. Didn't have clothes, or very monolingual, so they didn't speak
09:22
Spanish. Work. In town, a lot of them, sick clothes, going on in that work.
09:33
Helping them in another tribal group, town, or city, and work with both that way, one tribe over that way.
09:43
And also, be on the left of both those pictures, and I was helping.
09:49
So, she's been working higher level. Okay. Two more people
09:57
I'd like to use. Diana. When we lived in Pidiati, that first house we moved into, we lived in it for a while.
10:08
And then, on Ermi's land, the guy that I showed you at the beginning. And Irwin is one of Ermi's sons.
10:20
Okay. So, after we left, a couple of years after we left, Irwin and Diana moved into our house.
10:30
She's trained as a school teacher. Now, a program, training as missionaries.
10:38
They've just done the two years of Bible school, and now they're starting their missionary training. So, it's really cool to see how much their desire to reach their own people.
10:53
They also want to reach the MNL believers. There are a few, but very few.
11:01
And so, the opportunity in Colombia to do that is well supported. There are some missionaries.
11:08
For them to do other things is quite discouraging to them. So, you can pray for them.
11:16
Pray that God will encourage them in different ways. Well, they have no children.
11:22
Well, since they've been in the training, she's had three miscarriages.
11:28
So, that's been hard. You know, just another. And her dad died as well, just over a year ago.
11:39
So, again, that was hard. But they're very much resolved to continue on.
11:51
And then, in Colombia, we spent at the national training program. They're training.
11:57
They say national training program, but that's kind of a misnomer. Because they're training
12:03
Colombians, Venezuelans, and Peruvians, and Mexicans.
12:09
And then, of course, Panamanians. So, we were there for a couple of weeks. And, yeah, they gave me classes in cultural investigation.
12:19
And if we had to be excited about that stuff. But I taught classes with those teachers who teach those classes.
12:32
And one last couple for you to be praying for, Ramirez. They had an accident.
12:38
I think it was a car accident or something, wasn't it? And he hurt his back. He's got a cracked vertebrae.
12:47
Which basically means he can no longer work out where.
12:53
You just can't get suspension. And, anyway, they now work in the training centers.
12:59
But this year, well, while we were there, we're not going to support them. Because they're not directly involved.
13:06
So, their support is really going to drop.
13:12
And if they can't get support, then they'll have a history. And if anybody felt so led to actually support them, then you can definitely be praying for them.
13:20
They're a great couple. I understand the students being that bit closer in age than some of the staff there as well.
13:32
And, yeah, they're just a lot of fun. We had a lot of fun with them. What could possibly be wrong with that?
13:38
So, yeah, that's really the update.
13:49
We do appreciate all the love, the support, and so on that you give to us.
13:56
When we lived in Mexico and we had children in Branson, it was always a good time on the way.
14:03
We don't have that now. Obviously, this is a very quick visit, just in two weeks of meetings.
14:10
And I have three more weeks of meetings coming up with the grandchildren and their parents, of course.
14:21
But, yeah, so we do appreciate it. We're glad to be here.
14:27
So, I don't know if you have questions. Yes. She usually tells me what
14:33
I'm supposed to say. That's right. Okay. You want me to do that, Rachel? Jack, obviously, is the youngest.
14:43
This year, he took a year's short version. He got mugged behind in classes.
14:49
So he, with us, has been helping in the finance office at the New Tribes headquarters there in England this year.
14:56
He, and so he'll go to university again in September. Math Masters. It's a four -year program.
15:05
James is currently studying in the same university as Jack. He's doing modern languages, media, and grammar.
15:12
He's going to take an extra year. He'll go to Japan for a year.
15:19
He's been talking about becoming a missionary, but more in a closed -access type of a situation, training will be good for him.
15:31
Hannah is married in September, end of September. Like him.
15:38
Sorry? She's in England. Yeah, working in England. Then Carys is here, currently living in Lawton.
15:49
Her husband is in the Marines. So he's doing artillery training at the moment in Fort Sell, just down the road from here.
15:57
They'll be in North Carolina. And then
16:03
Thomas and Jodie, the university there, finance and technology. They kind of like to.
16:11
You can pray that Thomas can find it that works well for them. Is that a short question for you?
16:18
The ones that are here. History lessons. Rachel, do you have a question? There you go.
16:24
I was in training. So I came from England. I met my mates with Beth Howe. But it was a really fun experience.
16:34
One of the guys, and he said, when he met his sister, that she's a bit more noticeable.
16:42
They don't have the problems with them. That came from the Chief Power through England. Yes, I'm not in the area there.
16:49
You know, for us as a couple. But it's amazed me almost more over the last two years.
17:00
Anyway, I think like last year I was in school. And because sometimes you don't have much warning, so you need to provide for us.
17:11
Sometimes a field will pay for my ticket, but they just don't have those types of funds.
17:19
And so we don't want that to be a hindrance to seeing the work go forward. And the only thing stopping it is the price of a plane ticket.
17:28
Then we'll buy the plane ticket to provide, you know, because it's last year alone.
17:34
How on earth? There is one better dimension of mission.
17:45
He does have that extra job as well. He's got missionaries in different places. And if something happens, he can be in, if you like, a group, crisis management, because it's not like training field in England.
18:04
Yeah. We've been robbed of you guys.
18:12
Yeah, we have dreaded. When we were in Mexico, I had different incidents there.
18:23
And things like that. So he had to work. Any other questions?
18:33
Well, there's always the health issues. The last time I went to the doctor, that's why he's probably going to need another open heart surgery.
18:41
She puts the tests in the times that we're back in England. And then she's going to get together after August with a group of specialists and discuss when they think the next.
18:51
He's also going to need another, the one, the valve that has already been replaced. That's going to need to be, to have it redone.
19:00
But so they're trying to decide. I mean, he seems fit enough. So it's almost like. Oh, yeah.
19:11
I've seen how he does his plumbing. That was set up.
19:20
That was traveling and doing. Just like to give you an example,
19:27
I went to Columbia for a week. By day. So I got in a day late.
19:33
And so I literally land meetings. And then that doesn't happen all the time, but it's quite possible where I'm going through a particular issue.
19:45
And then, you know, for stamina, you know, with, with that we need to as well.
20:04
Things are difficult. Things are a bit more difficult. It defies the every
20:14
Sunday. And they've talked about doing church parts. They've talked about done a couple of church parts as well.
20:21
And, you know, there's other churches. We're just in a fighting things going on.
20:27
They have two services. Is where that's definitely the case. The country where the entity.
20:36
I mean, it's just the. Yeah, that was all over the papers and people,
20:46
Christians. And so you have that, that same environment is working.
20:53
Faith. And antagonistic themselves. I think, you know, that's one of them.
21:00
We're seeing is say, well, there's a lot of immigrants in England.
21:09
Well, a lot of with just doesn't make the news. Thank you.
21:19
For you guys. To us. To remind. Father, we thank you for this.
21:30
Helping their ministry alone. And father, we just pray. Further.
21:37
Safe as they try. That you. Help. Read the gospel. Help others.
21:44
To do that. You're making. Training of others.
21:50
And administering. Other space that you give them. As they mentioned.
21:58
Where there's love. So. Spread. Pray that we.
22:06
Be faithful to continue. To prayers. Courage. Amen.
