And the word became flesh and dwelt among us. The word here, of course, is trying to drive home the idea that Jesus is that second person of the
Trinity. And what's happening here in this description of the incarnation is that this one who has and possesses both 100 % entire divinity is going to take on the flesh of humanity.
This is the hypostatic union. He is fully God and fully man in one person.
The word became flesh and dwelt among us. I want to stop here.
Today, we have to ask the question why. Why does the second person of the
Trinity put on flesh? And all of the events that will follow.
He does it because he desires to have a perfect union with sinners like you.
He goes through all of this to unite himself to the people of God who will believe on his name.
And that identification is not a surface level. It is all -encompassing. It is comprehensive in scope.
Christ has identified with us his people in every respect.
