Kanye West and Joel Osteen at Lakewood revised: Lessons Learned

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I hope that this finds you and yours doing well. I want to thank you very much for joining me. So I uploaded this video to my youtube channel. Earlier this evening a little bit over an hour ago put it up the video deals with the recent visit of Kanye West to Lakewood Church pastored by Joel Osteen and talking about some of the dangers Of Kanye doing this, Kanye having a platform.

Because of some of the association some of the things that he's been talking about. I don't want to get into that because the rest of the video will discuss those issues, but this is just a short intro that I've just that just now recording to put in the front end of this video because some of you may already be aware that My video was taken down by Lakewood Church.

They filed a copyright infringement with YouTube and YouTube just automatically takes those Claims seriously, and they automatically take your videos down. So my video was removed from my own YouTube channel by Lakewood and they claim Copyright infringement because in this video I do use a handful of short clips taken from the service.

This past November 17th 2019, which Kanye West was there and spoke at Lakewood I filed a dispute. With Lakewood when you file a dispute on these kind of things the dispute itself does not go to YouTube.

It actually goes back to the one disputing it so my dispute is now in the hands of whoever at Lakewood took my video down and According to what I was informed on the email, then they have 30 days to review it.

So it'll be interesting to see where this goes. Because I am completely covered legally for using these short video clips. I am covered as are all Americans covered by what is known as the Fair Use Act.

Sometimes referred to as the Fair Use and Copy Act, but basically the Fair Use Act allows you to use Copyrighted material from someone else as long as it is for the purpose of Teaching, commentary, or parody.

In fact, I found this short description From Stanford University website. Let me read this to you. What is Fair Use, Fair Use and Copy Act? In its most general sense a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and Transformative purpose such as to comment upon criticize or parody a copyrighted work.

Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner. In other words, fair use is a defense against a claim of copyright Infringement. If your use qualifies as a fair use, then it would not be considered an infringement.

And then it goes on to say that a transformative use. The definition of that is ambiguous and vague and indeed it is, but goes on the last line there. Most fair use analysis falls into two categories commentary and criticism or parody.

So I am covered. In fact, this is what covers me in doing my seminars when I take short segments of copyrighted material for the purpose of teaching. Though the act is a bit vague, but let me say this dear friends I am NOT making money off of this video and that's one of the things that most courts take into consideration in Evaluating these claims that fall under fair use is is the person That is using the copyrighted material.

Are they is the person using that for monetary gain? I am NOT using it for monetary gain. In fact, you might notice that my YouTube channel is not monetized. There are no commercials. Not making a dime off of my YouTube channel.

And also I am NOT changing the material that's another thing that the courts take into consideration. Whether or not you alter the copyrighted material and I am NOT altering it at all. I have simply taken a few short clips Directly copied and pasted into my video.

And I am using it for commentary. I am using it for teaching. I am NOT even parodying The material I'm not making fun of either Kanye West or Joel Osteen. So I am well covered under the Fair Use Act. In fact if what I did in this video is not covered under the Fair Use Act.

Then the Fair Use Act truly has no meaning has no purpose. I am well within the bounds of the Fair Use Act. And so I filed a dispute to the dispute which goes back to Lakewood. And I let them know in no uncertain terms.

That I am NOT going to take this laying down because this is a matter of right and wrong. This is a legal issue, and I am well covered Under this so I hope that Lakewood does the right thing. But until we see what action they take I'm gonna put the video back up.

I am going to remove the short clips and in its place, I'm just gonna have a Screenshot of this just for a few seconds to let you know where the where the clips were. But you'll be able to tell by what I say in the video both before and after these.

Fair Use, Copyright Claims, and the Removed Lakewood Clips

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I hope that this finds you and yours doing well. And I want to thank you very much for watching this video. I'm doing this video as a follow-up to the video that I did two or three weeks ago entitled the real reason I left Twitter if you've not watched that video yet on my youtube channel I would encourage you to do so because that will make this video make a lot more sense.

But if you have not watched it or maybe if you did need a little refresher just very briefly the the real reason for my sudden departure from Twitter is all of the anger the vitriol the false accusations and quite honestly the flat-out lies that were Directed at me because of the cautionary remarks that I had in dealing with Kanye West and his profession of faith in Christ.

Not the blowback in and of itself, but yet all these comments and false accusations vitriol all that Was a stumbling block for my wife Kathy. She saw all that and it it I read an email to you. Yet she wrote to Debbie Lynn Kespert and Kathy said that it made her sinfully angry to see me falsely attacked that way and in such a hateful way and Kathy asked me to get off of Twitter and I said in my previous video that My wife's spiritual well-being is far more important to me than me being on Twitter.

And so I did Get off of Twitter. I don't know what it is about that particular social media platform that lends itself to So much more vitriol than than the other social media platforms do I don't know.

It's a Study for somebody else I suppose but at any rate it does and so I got off of Twitter now since I put that video up there have been some developments and dealing with Kanye West. Recording this on November the 24th 2019 Sunday before last so a little over a week ago Kanye West was at Lakewood Church and Passed much of course by Joel Osteen and I watched that and I wanted to put up this video up last week.

But I was just too busy. I was traveling had too much to do to get it together. So But there was a lot that was said at Lakewood Church things quite honestly that I was afraid Would happen did happen.

And so I want us to talk about that Because I think it warrants discussion Kanye West visit to Lakewood made a lot of news. It was all over the Drudge Report. It was on Fox News and it was on CNN all these major media outlets Quite the he made quite the big splash and and said some things that I think warrant our attention.

So I want to get to that. But before I do just briefly just as a little reminder I want to show a brief clip to you that I had in my previous video while I left Twitter and this is taken from a Sunday service that Kanye West did a couple of months ago and So watch this and then we will turn our attention to his visit at Lakewood God in Christianity.

That's what I've seen since I've been saved. But like since but I'm an early convert. I'm just on stage like. You know, I'm yeah, yeah. What I see if you believe that Jesus died for your sins. Then you know the gospel.

That's the gospel. Don't be telling me Mormons got an extra book and Catholics do that. It's simple. Christians, we'd be making it too hard for people to come and be involved in this. So make it clear for the message of the media.

So you see right there ladies and gentlemen that Kanye West has told the world now that It's okay to be a Roman Catholic this despite the fact that Roman Catholicism has Anathematized the very gospel itself.

It's okay to be a Mormon even though Mormons have a different God a different Jesus and a different gospel and it's okay to be a modalist. This was in I didn't show that clip. It was in my previous video but in that same setting Kanye West said that it that he likes TD Jake's and Criticized those who criticize him this despite the fact that TD Jake's is a modalist.

He Denies the Trinity. This is a fundamental doctrine of Basic Christianity and so TD Jake's is not a Christian. Never mind that Lifeway sold his books up until a year or so ago, but that's a whole other story.

So so Kanye West is is out telling the world that that these cults are Okay, and he is doing untold damage To the gospel. So we have a lot more ground to cover here. I want to show you this video Taken from an interview that he did about a month or so ago as of this recording in late November, but Kanye West is this is a long-ranging interview.

You can see it on YouTube in its entirety almost two hours in length. But Kanye is asked by this gentleman if his Sunday services are a church. Watch this.

So when we started Sunday service we were able to be free where people were in doubt of it in question. Some people still in question now saying it's not a church. You can't call it a church because you don't have a pastor.

It all of these things. Is it a church. Well, we have a pastor now, so. But is it a church like I mean, is that is that kind of the ultimate? Compliment for you that Sunday service is a church. Well, let's ask let's ask North what she thinks.

It isn't everything is for God and we can receive donations. Hmm, that's the only way That it can work so that's what the money you make from the merch is. Is in donation to the cause I? Mean, I would say so, you know spent if If tithing is 20 if tithing is 10

Sunday service definitely called me 20 At this time, but let me sure. Let me just uh, sure let me. Let me make sure but it's an iteration where we haven't Completely solved it. So we're praying on it.

We're praying for the answer in God's time for Me to be able to work only for the church. That you want to say my 20-year vision. That's my 20-year vision. Everything that I do.

Is for the church. Okay, ladies and gentlemen. You just heard Kanye West say that his Sunday services are a church because he says we now have a pastor now, I don't know of whom he is referring but Sunday services are not a church and Maybe he's got some pastor of some sort that travels around with these Sunday services, but that's not a church.

Now to his credit in this interview He did say that they're trying to do the Sunday services during the week so that they can be home, I suppose in Wyoming. So that they can go to a more established church a real church.

And that's commendable in itself in and of itself, but he says that these Sunday services are a church and you heard him say that Repeatedly that these Sunday services are a church. No, they're not your traveling roadshow is not a church and I don't say that to be harsh.

But that's not a church a church is a local body of believers. Not a roadshow at these Sunday services. They go from place to place to place Attracting crowds and you would have to assume the vast majority of these crowds are lost.

There's no way that they can do Communion in a biblical way. There's no way that they can do any meaningful regular exposition. There's no way that they can Baptize believers at these Sunday services practice believers baptism.

There's no way that they can do church discipline per Matthew 18 these these roadshows are not churches but that's what he says they are and and that that denigrates the church that denigrates the meaning and the The the Import of what a church really is and that really troubled me to hear that.

Kanye West, Sunday Service, and the Meaning of Church

So now let's go to His appearance a couple weeks ago or less than two weeks ago actually at Lakewood Church now I'm going to show this video clip and to his credit Kanye West says that Jesus is the only superstar but watch this and then we'll discuss.

So again to his credit you heard Kanye West Make reference to the his old self I suppose his old the arrogance and the cockiness for which he has been known throughout his years as an entertainer. And and he says that Jesus is the only superstar and he talks about how he used to be cocky and arrogant commendable in and of itself, but watch what he says Literally in the in the very same breath watch what he says Here, so you just heard Kanye say that he is the greatest Artist that God has ever created of all time.

That does not exactly exude humility and a couple of people have watched that and they said well. Maybe he's referring to himself and ironically kind of in an ironic sense. You know saying that that I used to think I was the greatest artist of all time and how ironic that now I am Working for God, but that's that's not what he meant and I can prove definitively that's not what he meant because of this clip watch this clip taken from the Same interview that I showed you just a moment ago.

That he did at his ranch in Wyoming.

And now I am unquestionably Undoubtedly the greatest human artists of all time. It's just not even a question anymore at this point. It's just a fact.

So you see there very clearly that Kanye was not using irony. He was being quite serious. He truly believes himself to be the greatest artist that God has ever created the greatest artist of all time.

You know, I'm friends I'll freely admit I'm not up on all the entertainment trends out there and I really don't know who's popular in the music or movie Industry or anything like that if I had my vote for the greatest artist musician of all time I would probably cast my ballot for Handel who wrote Handel's Messiah and the Alleluia Chorus, which in my opinion I think is the closest thing to inspired Music there is this side of heaven but at any rate the point of the matter is is that that is not humility and in one of the hallmarks that we should see in Every believer we should see a sense of humility we should see a sense of of brokenness before God of humility before God and that that's not humility that that's the opposite of humility now.

Again as I said in my previous video a couple weeks ago. I am NOT. I'm not making a judgment one way or the other about Kanye's Conversion. I've heard him say some good things. But as we're seeing I've heard him say a lot of troubling things too and seeing some troubling things.

I'm not making a judgment one way or the other. About his conversion what I am making a judgment about however, is that he should not be doing these Sunday services he should not have the platform that he has and We're about to see exactly why he should not.

Especially right now as we go to more of what he said at Lakewood Church Sunday November 17th watch this as he gives a full endorsement of Joel Osteen some people were expressing hope before this event happened when it was in the news and Various news outlets were talking about how Kanye's going to be going to Lakewood Church, and I and I saw people some people even in our circles saying things like oh how ironic it would be if if The people at Lakewood Church heard the gospel for the first time From Kanye West you know at Lakewood Church implying that of course that Joel Osteen does not preach the gospel, and he doesn't.

But you know how ironic would it be how wonderful would it be if if people heard the gospel from from Kanye West at Lakewood Church. Well, they didn't. Kanye gave his full not only did he give his full endorsement to Joel Osteen, but he also threw people.

Who rightly criticized Joel Osteen under the bus? People like me people like John MacArthur people like every doctrinally sound Christian doctrinally sound pastor doctrinally sound Bible teacher out there.

What we have been saying for years and years is that Joel Osteen is a wolf. And he is he's a false teacher, and he is it's a false prophet, and he is. And Kanye West just gave his full endorsement to one of the absolute worst false teachers on the planet and criticized people like us.

And I would say criticize even some of the people that I know are in his life. Or at least have been in his life that have actually been giving him Some sound doctrine behind the scenes and he just basically threw them under the bus, too.

Let's continue. So immediately after receiving a standing ovation for defending Joel Osteen Kanye goes on to say that God is not just about fire and brimstone. He says God is love God is family God is friendship.

God is prosperity and You know dear friends God is love that is true. But God does not promise Prosperity this is more evidence that Kanye is succumb to it to at least some degree in fact. I would say quite a bit to a degree to the prosperity gospel.

But the love of God the mercy of God the kindness of God these these Attributes of God that we like to focus on that most people just you know they emphasize Over the fire and brimstone kind of stuff the thing is dear friends is you cannot you cannot Separate any of God's attributes from any of his other attributes.

The love of God and the mercy of God only makes sense when we understand that we deserve the wrath of God Romans 5 8 but God demonstrates his own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us the love of God is Demonstrated in the in the fact that we deserve his wrath.

We deserve his anger our sins have earned his wrath, and it's only when we understand that we are sinners. It's only when we understand that we are enemies of God that we are rebels against God. It's only when we understand that we deserve the wrath of God.

That the mercy of God becomes precious to us that the love of God becomes Meaningful to us in that while we were yet sinners while we were yet rebels against him while we deserve nothing, but his wrath God demonstrates his love toward us in that while we were yet these things while we yet deserves deserve these things.

Christ died for us and so the The love and the mercy of God make no sense have no meaning to us until we first understand his wrath. And what Kanye did right there was to just completely? Undermine the gospel itself.

Ironically a lot of people are saying well help. You know wouldn't it be something if people actually heard the gospel for them for the first time from Kanye Lakewood? The closest thing to the gospel at this service actually came from Joel Osteen.

Watch this. So that was the closest thing to the gospel that you would have heard on this particular Sunday morning. And in fact that is the closest thing to the gospel you will hear on any Sunday morning at Lakewood now Joel Osteen did use some of the right lingo he he Verbalized the word sin he verbalized the word Repentance, but don't get too excited about that because that's all he does is simply say the words.

He never explains what those words are what they mean. He never explains the consequences of sin he never explains What repentance really is. In fact you can watch him, and I've watched him as you might can imagine.

Hundreds I suppose of times and he closes all of his sermons the same way he says this. Friends we never like to close our broadcasts without giving you an opportunity to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

Just pray this prayer Lord Jesus. I repent of my sins. I'm making my Lord and Savior friends if you just prayed that prayer. We believe you got born again join a good Bible believing church, and God will take you places that you've never dreamed.

You can probably tell I've seen it a time or two that's his gospel presentation and so yes He uses some of the right lingo, but it's it's it's just like throwing a dog a ball. It's it's just to pass this bare bare extreme minimalistic Presentation of the gospel a kindergarten play school Play dough and finger painting level of the gospel.

That this is not the gospel. He uses the words. But he doesn't explain what they mean you see at Lakewood Church and in the prosperity gospel as a whole and most of charismatic movement. Sin is not something that you commit against a thrice.

Holy God sin is not Breaking the laws of God that incurs his wrath that it incurs his righteous judgment. Sin is not something that That condemns us to an eternity of enduring the undiluted fury of God's wrath because we have rebelled against our Creator.

That's not what sin is in the prosperity gospel sin is something that just keeps you from having your best life now. It it prevents you from being the full you it prevents you from Having a wonderful prosperous life.

It just it hinders you it it it holds you back. It is it's a very horizontal presentation of sin not vertical at all and Joel Osteen he uses a word repentance, but he never ever ever talks about what it is.

And I have watched Joel Osteen preach. Oh my goodness 15 years or so almost as long as he's been a pastor I've watched him preach and I can honestly tell you that I have never a single time ever heard him clearly Present the gospel.

So yeah, don't think that Joel Osteen is is preaching the gospel now. He's not so let's go back. We'll see a few more Closing comments from Kanye actually he prays for Joel Osteen at the end of the service here.

So watch this and and we'll talk about it well different ends there you see more effusive praise from Kanye West to Joel Osteen as I said a little bit ago one of the Most dangerous false teachers on the planet now Joel Osteen comes across as a very nice winsome folksy kind of down-home guy, you know, just just really a friendly kind of fellow and That's what makes him so dangerous is because he does come across that way and Yet, he does not preach the gospel by his own admission.

Joel Osteen does not preach on sin and I'm not putting words in his mouth. He'll tell you I've heard him say it and he'll Openly tell you he does not preach on sin. Well, how do you preach the gospel if you do not preach on sin and Joel Osteen has repeatedly Denied that Jesus is the only way to be saved.

He's denied the exclusivity of the gospel. He did it rather famously or infamously I suppose about 13 or 14 years ago on the Larry King live program. He was asked if Jesus was the only way to be saved and he he miffed the question.

He couldn't answer the question and actually created a bit of a dust storm for himself. And so he went into full damage control mode actually hire a PR firm to help him Kind of extricate himself from that hole that he had just dug but then years later.

He did again. He went on the Glenn Beck program when Glenn Beck had a program on Fox News Glenn Beck who was a Mormon, by the way and Glenn asked him the same question that Larry King did and you would think with years Of experience and hindsight under his belt and all he went through with Larry King.

He would get the question right this time, right? No, he didn't. Not only did he not get it, right? He even made it worse now this this interview didn't get nearly the play for some reason but Joel Osteen actually said in that interview said Glenn I've been to India and I've seen those Hindus and he said they're nice kind people who love God as well.

No, they some of the Hindus may be nice and kind but they certainly do not love God. They have a different God. In fact, they got millions of gods. So Joel Osteen again Denied the exclusivity of Christ the exclusivity of the gospel.

He's done in other times, too. And dear friends, I don't I don't care how much he smiles. He's a false teacher. You deny that Jesus is the only way to be saved. You're a false teacher. And he's done this repeatedly multiple occasions and Sometimes I'm asked well do people do these false teachers know that they're false or do they are they just deceiving people and I Say the answer that question is both both.

Paul makes a very interesting comment in 2nd Timothy chapter 3 verse 13. He says that evil men and imposters will go from bad to worse deceiving and being deceived. Deceiving and being deceived both of those dynamics can be at work in the same person.

Joel Osteen like Benny Hinn is actively deceiving people now. He deceives people in a bit different way than Benny Hinn does but he's actively deceiving people. It's not that Joel Osteen does not know what the Bible says.

He does know it. His father was a pastor for years and years and by no means was a an expositor. But there was a lot more truth in John Osteen sermons and what you'll find in Joel's sermons. Certainly enough of the gospel there for God to call one of his lost sheep to himself but.

So Joel Osteen knows what's in the Bible. He knows about all these passages of. That deal with wrath and judgment and hell. I mean he knows they're in there. Of course he does he just refuses to preach them he refuses to teach them.

So he's actively deceiving people and he may smile a lot. But he's leading millions of people to hell smiling all the way as he does it. So he's deceiving people and yet I think he's also being deceived.

I think there's a part of him that thinks he is doing the right thing. Part of him that thinks he's helping people. No, he's not. But I think there's a part of him that thinks that he does because he looks at is the size of his church.

It's the largest church in the country. So must be doing something right and that must be a sure sign of God's blessing and favor. Well that nothing could be further from the truth. And so there you see Kanye West endorsing Roman Catholicism Mormonism Modalism the prosperity gospel endorsing some of the most obvious false teachers of our day.

This dear friends is why he should not have a platform. He is doing untold damage to the gospel right now. He is doing a lot of harm. There is nothing good. Coming out of these Sunday services. This these are not good things.

This is these are bad things these need to stop this is why Paul says that the qualifications of an elder an elder should not be a new convert. You know a new convert and that is at best at best. What Kanye is?

Should not be in a position of leadership. Because he's doing a lot of damage think about it. He had who knows how many tens of millions of followers before his profession of faith in Christ. So now he's got a whole new Legion of followers because of his profession of faith in Christ now.

He's got a lot of Christians at least professing Christians following him. So I would I think it's pretty safe to assume he had all of his old followers now he's got a whole bunch of new followers and.

The eyes of the world are on Kanye West because of his newfound profession of faith in Christ to see what is this about? What is what's he doing? Is this real the eyes of the world are on him? And what's he doing with the platform that that he's been given.

He's endorsing cults. He's endorsing false Christ's false Gospels. He's endorsing false teachers. He's doing a lot of harm. This is why new converts aren't to be in positions of leadership and. And he is undermining he's actually Criticizing people like me not by name.

But but you know people like me and maybe you that are watching this and you care about sound doctrine people like John MacArthur and Paul Washer and and all the Thousands of faithful shepherds out there that are unknown that are trying to lay their laboring in the word trying to lead their flocks and Protect from the wolves and Kanye West is throwing all of us.

And likely you too under the bus. We're the ones who are wrong. We're the ones who are wrong. And yet he is by his own admission a brand-new convert. He knows better and what a tragic What a tragic situation this is what what a What a train wreck this is and how sad That and I've got to control my emotions here I tell you I have been very dismayed and I as I have seen some people even in our circles in Soteriologically reformed doctrines of grace circles.

Talking about how these you know, this is a great thing and they're so excited about it. These Sunday services are wonderful. He's preaching the gospel. No, he's not. These are not good things. These Sunday services are not good.

They need to stop. He's doing a lot of harm right now. So anyway, I have a little bit more here I want to Stay on the same subject but go to a different interview. This is what you're about to see. This is from Andrew Womack and Lance wall now.

Andrew Womack is a word-of-faith prosperity Preacher based out in Colorado Springs a massive massive compound in school there. And he's interviewing Lance wall now now Lance wall now is one of the leaders in the new apostolic Reformation movement.

He's the one that first coined the term the seven mountain mandate and there's a lot to say about that. But basically basically, the gist of it is this is that Christians need to Overtake and control the seven mountains of culture the education mountain the the religious mountain the family mountain the business mountain the government Mountain the arts and entertainment mountain in the media mountain.

I think I got all seven in there so we've got to control these mountains and Kanye West plays into the new apostolic Reformation the Dominion theology Actually plays into their theology very very nicely.

Because Kanye West hey, he's the greatest Artist of all time, right? He represents he's at the top of the arts and entertainment mountain. Here's one of the mountains and Kanye West sits at the top of that mountain and Guess what?

You know, he's he's now one of us right plays right into their theology. Watch this.

Let's see if we can squeeze one more question. Well Lance. Here's a here's one I'm interested in. It's can you comment on everything happening with Kanye West? How will this affect culture in the long term and what is the appropriate response for Christians?

Well, I'll tell you something man. I love what's happened with Kanye. I'll tell you what it is hilarious and and you know. If this was only if the news was only covering what's actually news I think we'd all be looking at the signs of this.

So what Kanye is doing is basically and I've got people in my groups that all complain. Well, you know, he's a novice and he shouldn't be doing this and who's he you know, who's teaching him? Well, he's got pastors that are working with him on fire pastors.

I know that for a fact of some of my folks that my wife prays with. Go to churches with the pastors that are helping Kanye now, so he's got he's got an infrastructure that's working with him. But he's doing the work of an evangelist and my gosh, what an incredible, you know, first of all.

What a telling comment Lance wall now again that he's a theological heretic. He says that this is a great thing and he's got an infrastructure of people that are working with him. Well, you know what?

He's right. He does. Kanye apparently has had a lot of different voices Talking to him some of them good a few of them anyway good, but you know what there's a lot of bad voices around him there's a lot of wolves around him and it certainly I don't think there's any debate right now as to Which side of this is winning the day with Kanye?

He is he's listening to the wolves. That's who he's listening to. This is not good. Not good at all. So yeah, I've heard that he's got some good people around him and to one degree or another Yes. They have they have sown some truth into his life and I know God's Word does not return void and if God's Word will do Whatever God's God has decreed his word to do in Kanye's life.

But he's listening to a lot of bad people and when Lance wall now says that he's doing the work of an evangelist. You know what? I We can do without that kind of evangelism we can do without that kind of evangelism, so.

Let's go back to Lance wall now. Someone told me recently they said Lance to understand kind of you got to know that he's a backslid Christian that rededicated his life. So it's not like he's just starting.
