Alright, so many of you in the audience, you don't pray to saints. Neither do

I. But if I were to ask you, well, why don't you pray to saints?

Because, I mean, after all, I mean, Eastern Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism, they seem to be quite fascinated with praying to saints and stuff like that.

So why don't you do it? And you would probably say something to this effect. Nowhere in Scripture are we taught to pray to saints.

In fact, Scripture is very clear that there is one mediator between God and man, and that's

Jesus Christ. So we're not instructed to pray to saints, we're instructed to pray to God, and Jesus is our mediator.

And I would say, very good, very good. So when you give an answer like that, what you're doing is you're basically saying, if a doctrine isn't taught in Scripture, it is to be rejected.

But I could come around and I could say, but, you know, the Pope, I mean, he wears a very, very impressive uniform, and people say he's super important, so he says to pray to saints.

Why do you not listen to him? And you would say, Pope Schmope, I listen to Scripture.

If somebody contradicts the Scripture, even if they're the Pope, then we are to go with Scripture, not man -made doctrines.

And I'd say, very good, very good. So then my question for the Charismatics is, why do they allow equally man -made doctrines to flourish in obvious false teachers to do well, make quite a good living teaching them man -made doctrines?

For instance, I'm not going to tell you who I'm referring to at the moment, but if I were to tell you that there's a major leader within the

Charismatic movement who teaches that you can create a glory cloud around you via your praise and your worship, you'd say, you know, would anybody care to give me a biblical text that teaches that?

You'd say, no, that doesn't sound biblical at all. But then if I were to say, well, the guy who's teaching it is

David Herzog, and they go, oh, well, maybe it is true. You see the issue?

And so there are so many false doctrines and so many obvious false teachers that are running around visible

Christianity today, and sadly, it's people who claim to be worshipers and believers in Jesus who make it possible for these fellows to flourish and for real sound doctrine to be run out of the church because, you know, they don't tolerate sound doctrine.

They're just filling people's heads with nonsense. So what we're gonna do today is we're gonna head over to—in fact, let me do this.

David Herzog, quite a notable name within the charismatic movement in the NAR, and he is going to lead them in their message for the evening.

But it's gonna start out with probably one of the worst songs

So here's David Herzog. As we go through this, we're gonna take, we're gonna obviously offer some counter biblical teaching here, actual biblical teaching, and I'm gonna just ask the question, what should our attitude be towards false teachers like this guy?

What should our attitude be? Well, you know, he's just a misguided and, you know, kind of erring -ish brother, but he means well.

I mean, you know, no, no, we'll actually look at what the Bible says in these regards. So here we go.

I just can't, the Gloria is still here. Just lift your hands and just continue to worship Him. All right, so right out of the chute, where in the

Bible does it tell us that we can, quote, get in the glory? Where is this taught in Scripture?

It isn't. So from the first things out of his mouth, you should know this guy's a false teacher.

If you know your Bible, you know this guy is as phony baloney as a Bill Clinton $3 bill.

All right? The Bible says we come with psalms and hymns, which is what we've done. That's songs that you know, and then we go to a spiritual song.

Psalms, hymns, spiritual. When you do a spiritual song, it's like your own song that you create.

No, no. So now he's misappropriated and misused

Ephesians 5. Let me show you the text. So here we have a stern warning from God the Holy Spirit through the

Apostle Paul. So look carefully then how you walk, how you conduct your life, not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of the time because the days are evil.

Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the

Lord is. Do not get drunk with wine, that is debauchery, but be filled with the

Spirit. And here referring to the Holy Spirit. And by the way, what are the fruit of the Spirit? You can find them in Galatians 5.

They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self -control.

Mm -hmm. In fact, to be filled with the Holy Spirit is the exact opposite of being drunk.

It is to be completely sober and sober -minded in Christ.

Mm -hmm. That's the idea here. So do not get drunk with wine, that's debauchery, be filled with the Spirit. And then addressing one another in psalms and hymns.

And here, pneumatikos, spiritual songs. A spiritual song is going to be one that is, well, has doctrinal content to or biblical content to it.

It's not some mindless, meaningless concept thingy, nor that you just go with it and whatever is in your heart.

That's not what this is. In fact, there isn't a single solid biblical exegete or commentator or biblical scholar in the

New Testament who would agree with what David Herzog is saying here. In fact, he's taking a phrase and pouring in his own meaning rather than looking at the meaning that is there.

Singing and making melody, what? To the Lord with your heart. Giving thanks always for everything to God the

Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

So already we got a problem here because he claims we can, quote, get in the glory. And now he's misused

Ephesians 5. None of this is looking good for him. And he wrote some of the songs that you sing earlier, but for you it's his song, but you have a song.

So I want you to take a minute or two, maybe longer, and just start to sing your own song in the Spirit, in English or in tongues or whatever language you speak.

That's forbidden. Okay, so you'll note that this is a church service here, and the

Apostle Paul warns us regarding the gifts of tongues that there are actual rules in place.

And so the rules in place require that there be, well, somebody to interpret.

All right, so here's what God the Holy Spirit says to the Apostle Paul regarding the exercise of legitimate tongues, which are languages, not some gibberish language that you hear.

And by the way, if you've ever heard a charismatic say something like, well, tongues are a gift that the Holy Spirit has given to us so that we can pray in it, it's an angelic language and it makes it so that the devil can't understand our prayers.

You need to remind people who say nonsense like this that the devil is a fallen angel, which means he speaks the language of angels fluently.

Okay, it's like, duh. All right, so what then, brothers, when you come together, each one has a hymn or a lesson or a revelation, a tongue, an interpretation.

Let all things be done for building up. All right, let all things be done for building up.

If anyone speak in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let someone interpret.

If there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself in God.

Yeah, straight up. So if you've ever been to a charismatic church where everybody is just blathering on and gibberish, they are outright rebelling against God.

God the Holy Spirit has put this rule in place, two or at the most three, with an interpreter, without an interpreter, as that song from Michael Jackson goes, zip it, zip it good.

No, no, that's Devo. Yeah, zip it good. Yeah, zip it.

That's the idea behind it. All right, coming back then, how many strikes are we up to now at this point?

And anybody who knows their Bible by now knows that they need to get up and leave, but they're not.

How are we ready to do that? Most of you are. Two of you are like, I'm logically, analytically trying to process what you said.

No, no. Now, I'm going to point this out. I'm going to back this up. This is a great example of the absolute detestation that exists within the charismatic movement for using your mind.

They are anti -intellectual. And this is another sign you are in deep kimchi.

You need to leave. You need to run. You need to flee the building. And I'll show you that, you know, in just a minute here.

And so the idea then is that he's telling people they just need to, you know, sing their own song as they're being led by the spirit in English or in tongues or whatever.

And what does he do? He takes a moment to basically chastise anybody who would sit there and use their brain and go, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, that something's wrong here.

OK, listen to it again. Or in tongues or whatever language you speak. Have you ready to do that? Most of you are.

Two of you are like, I'm logically, analytically trying to process what you said. No, no, just do it and then think about it later.

No, no biblical text teaches this. This is a tactic of the devil. So let me show you some clear texts along these lines.

We'll go. We'll start with First Corinthians 14. The Apostle Paul makes it very clear that tongues, if you don't have an interpreter, there's no point bringing it to church because the gifts that are given for the building up of the body of Christ edify the body of Christ.

And he makes this interesting distinction. See, he says, therefore, the one who speaks in a tongue, that's without the ability to interpret, should pray that he may interpret.

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, my mind is unfruitful. So what am I to do?

I'll pray with my spirit, but I'll pray with my mind also. I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.

Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say amen to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you're saying?

For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up.

And then he says this, I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. Nevertheless, in church,

I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others than 10 ,000 words in a tongue.

So you'll know, this text flies directly in the face of what David Herzog is doing.

In fact, what David Herzog is leading people in and then chastising those whose minds would get in the way, those whose minds would get in the way are in line with the

Apostle Paul, who says he would rather speak five words with his mind in church than 10 ,000 words in a tongue.

Next text, and this is a fun one, you remember the account of Jesus and the woman at the well in Samaria?

It's a great passage, but something Jesus says there is quite important. So let's take a look at the account.

John chapter 4, when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John, although Jesus himself did not baptize but only his disciples, he left

Judea and departed again for Galilee, and he had to pass through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called

Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son

Joseph. Jacob's well was there also, so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well.

It was about the sixth hour. So let's see, third hour is nine o 'clock, six hours, so it's the heat of the day, man.

So a woman from Samaria came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, give me a drink.

For his disciples had gone into the city to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, how is it that you, a

Jew, ask for a drink from a woman of Samaria? For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

Jesus answered her, if you knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to you, give me a drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.

So the woman said to him, sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?

Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons in his livestock.

Jesus said to her, everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again, for the water

I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. So the woman said to him, sir, give me this water that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.

She's thinking this is some kind of miracle water thing, right? So Jesus then said to her, all right, go and call your husband and come here.

And you can almost see the woman kind of like losing eye contact at this point. I have no husband.

So the woman answered, and Jesus said to her, you're right, you have no husband, for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband.

What you said is true. So the woman said, sir, I perceive that you're a prophet. And now out comes the big theological difference between the

Samaritans and the Jews. And if you know your story, if you know your

Old Testament well, you know that the son of Nebat, Jeroboam, the son of Nebat is the one who formed the

Northern Kingdom and set up a false worship there near Sychar.

And they put up their own temple complex at Mount Gerizim, and it just always stayed in idolatry.

And so the woman said, I perceive you're a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.

So Jesus said to her, woman, believe me, the hour is coming, and when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the

Father. You worship what you do not know, we worship what we know, for salvation is from the

17:42

Jews. But the hour is coming and is now here when true worshipers will worship the

17:48

Father in spirit and truth. Spirit and truth.

True worshipers do not worship God in spirit and lies. Truth is something that is apprehended and believed with your mind, not merely your heart.

So you see this here? True worshipers are worshiped, those who worship in spirit and in truth.

What we're hearing from David Herzog is flat -out lies. Now the hour is coming when true worshipers will worship the

Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. So do you worship

God in spirit and truth, or just spirit? You know, just going along with the flow, and whatever anyone he says, no matter how ridiculous or ludicrous, oh, that must be the thing that the

Spirit's telling me. God is spirit, those who worship Him, watch what Jesus says, must, must worship

Him in spirit and truth. So don't sit here and tell me how good of a worshiper you are when the truth that is being spewed in your church is not biblical truth.

In fact, it's against the truth of Scripture. You're not a true worshiper. Worshippers are worshipers who worship in spirit and truth, and you need to repent.

If you are anti -intellectual and claim that, ah, well, truth and the mind get in the way of the thing that the

Spirit is doing, the Spirit wants you to turn your brain off. No, He doesn't. No text says that.

In fact, I would even bring another passage to bear here, and let me, in fact, let me grab it real quick.

In fact, I'd probably put it over there. There we go. Jesus, mm -hmm, in Matthew 22,

Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, so they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked

Jesus a question to test Him. Teacher, which is the great commandment of the law? Jesus said, you shall love the

Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.

That's consistent with what Christ said, those who worship God must worship Him in spirit and in truth. The Father is seeking those people to worship

Him. For we must worship God in spirit and in truth.

So we, I mean, we've barely gotten into what David Herzog has to say, and already

I can tell you definitively, this man is a false teacher and a false prophet.

The Spirit that he is bringing is not God the Holy Spirit, because his teachings run completely against and are contradictory to the teachings of Scripture.

All that you're gonna see here, this is not from the Holy Spirit. This is from a false spirit. This is from a completely different place.

So let's back this up just for the sake of a little bit of context, and I'll let now this horrifying song start to play out.

But you have a song, so I want you to take a minute or two, maybe longer, and just start to sing your own song in the

Spirit, in English or in tongues or whatever language you speak. How many of you are ready to do that?

Just start to sing. If you sing terrible, it's okay. Just don't join the worship team, but it's okay. Just start to worship

Him. Do it for the Lord. Amen. And start to sing a song about what He's done for you. And that King David started to do that, and he would get a victory over lions, over bears, over Goliath.

Absolute lie. There is no account that says that David, he would sing in the Spirit like this, and as a result of singing in the

Spirit like this, God would give him victory over lions and tigers and bears. Oh my. No, that, you just added to the

Bible, sir. A new song will bring a new glory on your personal life and a personal victory. Just try it.

You can prophesy your way into it. Says no biblical text ever.

Worship your way into the glory realm. Worship your way. Where in Scripture does it say we can worship our way into the glory realm?

Into a breakthrough now. All I want to do is stand here with you.

All I want to do is be with you. You howling at the moon.

What is this? You do this at home. You praise your worship. And then after you play your songs that you like, you go into your own song.

And you start doing this for a while. And then all of a sudden there's a shift like in your room. You're like whoa. Then you wait on Him.

And then you start getting like a vision. No text teaches this at all. Which of the Apostles did this?

Not one. How about any of the Old Testament prophets? Not a single one. Thought or a scripture. And that's kind of how you start to on your own develop your own glory cloud.

So I'm not training you. There it is. So by doing this you can develop your own glory cloud.

So do that right like right now. Like your own. Ready just. So I just start singing stuff that's gonna happen in the meeting. I start singing and I start singing it and I'm declaring it.

I love the adverbs tenderly sweetly lovingly and then what does he do?

He decapitates my enemy. What is this? Lovingly so tenderly so delicately decapitates my enemy.

He's so lovingly. As I worship him he starts loving on me. Start decapitating my enemy.

While he was loving on me. I didn't know he was decapitating my enemy. This is like Kip's song from Napoleon Dynamite.

This is the worst praise song ever but we've already determined that this isn't a praise song to the one true

God. I don't know which deity he's invoking. It's a demonic one at that. And suddenly my enemies were gone.

Okay so here's my question for you. You know what's missing here? What should have happened is that everybody who is in that room who knows their

You need to leave. Get out. These people are not your Christian brothers and sisters.

These are deceivers sent by the devil to take you to the devil himself rather than take you to eternal life with Christ.

And I know that sounds harsh but I have some justification for that biblically.

And so we're going to note a couple of places here. We're going to start with a biblical text in the

New Testament. Paul writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit says this in Titus chapter 3 verses 10 and 11.

As for a person who stirs up division and it's those who bring false doctrines who are the ones who are stirring up division.

After warning them once and then twice have nothing to do with them. Knowing that such a person is warped and sinful he is self condemned.

David Herzog is that. He's warped. He's sinful. Have nothing whatsoever to do with him.

And then I would remind you of that account from Daniel chapter 3 of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

That they rather than live, they were willing to lay down their lives than worship a false

God. And that's what David Herzog was worshiping.

A false God altogether because the God you can tell by the details of what he was describing that ain't the

God of scriptures. That ain't Jesus Christ. That ain't the real Holy Spirit. So, I remind you of this account.

Daniel 3 says this, King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold whose height was 60 cubits, its breadth six cubits.

He set it on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent together the satraps, the prefects, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the province to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

So, then the satraps, and the prefects, and the governors, and the counselors, and the treasurers, and the justices, and the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

And they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. And the herald proclaimed aloud, you are commanded,

O peoples, nations, and languages, that when you hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the trigon, the harp, the bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Whoever does not fall down in worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. Therefore, as soon as all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the trigon, the harp, the bagpipe, and every kind of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, they fell down and they worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Therefore, at that time, certain Chaldeans came forward and they maliciously accused the Jews. They declared to King Nebuchadnezzar, O King, may you live forever.

Now, if you are ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the trigon, the bagpipe, and every kind of music to fall down and worship the image that I have set up, well and good.

But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. Who's the

God who will deliver you out of my hands? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king,

O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God, whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and he will deliver us out of your hand,

O king. But if not, be it known to you,

O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor will we worship the golden image that you have set up. Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury.

The expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace heated seven times more than it usually was heated.

And he ordered some of the mighty men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

Then those men were bound in their cloaks and their tunics and their hats and their other garments, and they were thrown into the burning fiery furnace.

They were willing to die rather than worship a false God. Where is that today?

It's not in the charismatic movement. David Herzog was leading these people in the worship of a false

God and a false spirit. And nobody stood up and walked out. Everybody participated in worshiping this false

God's word and says things that are not true about scripture. None of them got up.

But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, they were thrown into the burning fiery furnace. And then these men, because the king's order was urgent and the furnace was overheated, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fell into the burning fiery furnace bound. But then

King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished and he rose up in haste and he declared to his counselors, did we not cast three men bound into the fire?

They answered and said to the king, true O king. He answered and says, but I see a four men unbound walking in the midst of the fire and they are not hurt.

And their appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods. That's right. Jesus himself came to rescue

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And he did. So Nebuchadnezzar came near to the door of the burning fiery furnace and he declared

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego servants of the most high God come out and come here. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the fire and the satraps and the prefects and the governors and the king's counselors gathered together.

And they saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed.

Their cloaks were not harmed and no smell of fire had come upon them. Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, blessed be the

God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who has sent his angel and delivered his servants who trusted in him and set aside the king's command and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any

God except for their own God. Therefore, I make a decree, any people or nation or language that speaks anything against the

God in spirit and truth do not worship false gods, even false gods who take the name of the

Holy Spirit upon themselves. But clearly by the doctrines that are being spewed, you can tell it isn't the real

Holy Spirit. We are called to separate ourselves, have nothing to do with people like this.

And I would note, there's an interesting account in church history. In Irenaeus' Against Heresies, book three, chapter three, paragraph four.

We get an interesting account. And it's told, so Irenaeus was a disciple of Polycarp.

They both lived in the city of Ephesus. And Polycarp was taught the Christian faith by the apostle

John. And it's Polycarp who relayed an interesting event. If you know your church history, then you know that 1

John, the epistle of 1 John was written against the heretic whose name was

Cyrenthus. Cyrenthus was a Gnostic who denied that Jesus was God in human flesh and that he was the physical byproduct of sexual union between Joseph and Mary and that the anointing, the

Christ came upon him at his baptism. That's what he taught. And as a Docetist and a

Gnostic, he denied that Jesus bodily rose from the grave and he denied that Jesus actually had, that he came in the flesh the way we understand things.

So all of that being said, you get, which is you sit there and go, his theology is whack.

Indeed it is. But there's an account that Polycarp tells and Irenaeus writes it down of what happened when on one occasion, the apostle

John in Ephesus went into the public bathhouse for the purpose of taking care of his bodily cleaning.

It was a hygiene thing. And when he noted that Cyrenthus was inside the bathhouse, what he said.

And so this is where it starts here. There are also those who heard from him, from Polycarp, that John, the disciple of the

Lord, going to bathe at Ephesus and perceiving Cyrenthus, this is the heretic within, he rushed out of the bathhouse without bathing, exclaiming, let us fly, lest even the bathhouse fall down, because Cyrenthus, the enemy of the truth, is within.

And Polycarp himself replied to Marcion, Marcion was a heretic as well, who met him on one occasion and said, dost thou know me?

And Polycarp said, I do know thee, you are the firstborn of Satan. Such was the horror which the apostles and their disciples had against holding even verbal communication with any corruptors of the truth.

As Paul also says, and we read it in Titus three, a man that is a heretic after the first and second admonition reject, knowing that he that is such is subverted and sinneth being condemned of himself.

You get the idea. So why, why, since Christ has told us that we are to worship

God in spirit and in truth, why is it that people who call themselves

Christians do not know their Bible enough to know that that man is teaching a false spirit and that the

God he's worshiping is not the God of the Bible? And what do they do? They willingly, gladly worship the false deity that he's worshiping.

We need to repent. Church needs to repent. The first commandment is you will have no other gods.

That's the first. And it's being broken in so many places that call themselves

Christian churches. This is part of the reason why we're doing the work that we're doing here to warn people.

They need to wake up and ask themselves, which God exactly am I worshiping here? Because when they do their work and use their mind the way

Christ has said, because God is seeking, the father is seeking those who will worship him in spirit and in truth, when they actually start waking up to the fact that there is truth within the

Christian faith and that there are doctrines that we are to believe and to reject, that when they recognize the truth, they recognize that these men are not worshiping the

God of the Bible at all. They're worshiping a false holy spirit and a God of their own making.
