00:18
Good Saturday morning, people of faith. This Saturday, or this weekend, we're reading
00:24
Psalm 107 and then Psalms 111 through 115, and I'm going to concentrate on Psalm 115 today.
00:33
Verse one says, Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to your name give glory, because of your mercy, because of your truth.
00:45
What a timely reminder for me, just about every day of my life, that it is the
00:54
Lord who deserves the glory. I know that me, in my flesh, my desire is to be complimented for how well
01:05
I play pickleball, or how well I teach math, or how well I'm giving a devotional, or whatever it is
01:11
I do, I generally want all the credit for it in my flesh, and it is to the
01:17
Lord that he is to give glory. Verse two says, Why should the
01:23
Gentiles say, So where is their God? Referring to the
01:28
God in heaven. Verse three says, But our God is in heaven.
01:34
He does whatever he pleases. So, the Gentile nations at this time would make idols of wood and stone and metal and call those things gods, and then they would say,
01:51
But where is your God? Well, our God is in heaven. He's not a
01:56
God that's made out of wood or stone or straw or even precious metals.
02:03
Our God is the creator of everything. And so, much of the rest of this psalm is going to go on to say,
02:12
Look at this thing that you call God. It has a mouth that doesn't speak. It has ears and doesn't hear.
02:19
It has a nose and can't smell. It has hands, but it can't handle anything.
02:26
It has feet, but it can't walk. Our God is free to do whatever he pleases.
02:36
And I wanted to just take a step back and think about for a moment what it is that pleases
02:46
God. Well, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message of the cross to save a peculiar people for himself.
03:01
Have you thought about that? That God does whatever he pleases and it pleased him to save us through the message of the cross.
03:17
The world thinks that that is foolish. The world back at this time thought it was foolish not to have a
03:25
God that you could handle, that you could pick up and move along with you.
03:31
But the real God, the creator of everything, the one who really is in charge, the sovereign, the supreme, it is he who does as he pleases.
03:46
You don't get to pick him up and take him to a new location.
03:52
You don't get to command what he does.
03:58
He does as he pleases. Let's pray.
04:04
Heavenly Father, we know that you are the God who does as he pleases.
04:12
And we ask that you would be with us today and that it would be pleasing to you that we would walk in oneness with you according to what you have laid out for us to do.
04:32
May you grant us the power to do that through your Holy Spirit and what your son has done for us on the cross.
04:38
And it's in your son's name, Jesus, that we pray. Amen. Have an excellent day, people of faith.
