- This is Kenneth Copeland, and this is David Oyedepo, and this is one of the most terrifying partnerships you will ever see.
- 00:20
- One list of the top ten richest pastors in the world is Kenneth Copeland at number one, and David Oyedepo at number two.
- 00:29
- Copeland is one of the most popular and influential pastors in the United States, and Oyedepo is one of the most popular and influential pastors in Africa.
- 00:39
- Many Christians today think that whereas Christianity seems to be fading and dying in Western cultures, it is growing and thriving in non -Western cultures, such as Africa, and that Africa will soon become the new hub of Christianity in the world.
- 00:55
- However, the state of Christianity in Africa is not nearly as rosy or hopeful as it might seem at first.
- 01:02
- Although a large number of Africans do profess to be Christian, much of the supposed
- 01:07
- Christianity in Africa is actually the false prosperity gospel, which is no gospel at all.
- 01:14
- One of the things that has been very interesting to me, thinking about this particular issue, is to see the ways in which the
- 01:23
- Word of Faith movement and the prosperity gospel from here in the United States has taken root and taken hold and has wreaked havoc in Africa.
- 01:33
- I remember, you know, I would have said, you know, when I first became aware of the Word of Faith movement and began to look into and study the
- 01:40
- Word of Faith movement, I would always say things like, yeah, they can get away with that here, but you can't do that in a third world country.
- 01:48
- How wrong I was. It's worse. It's worse.
- 01:53
- You would think that there would have to be a certain amount of wealth within a culture in order to get people to grab a hold of this kind of ideology.
- 02:04
- The fact of the matter is that that's just not the case. This movement is not necessarily about the amount of wealth that an individual or a culture has as much as it is about the desire that we have for more.
- 02:22
- It's more about our flesh and the feeding of our flesh and how this movement essentially tells us that we can have everything we want and Jesus.
- 02:35
- I am blessed, prosperous, redeemed. My job is kind of shaky and I need a breakthrough tonight and I'm going to show because I need
- 02:44
- God to turn it around. Whereas Christ has come, bid us to come and die.
- 02:50
- This movement says you don't have to. Your flesh doesn't have to die. Your yearnings or desires don't have to die.
- 02:59
- Your materialism doesn't have to die. In fact, you can have it on steroids and still be all that Christ has called you to be.
- 03:09
- It's amazing to see it in that kind of environment. The prosperity gospel of Joel Osteen, T .D.
- 03:16
- Jakes, Joyce Meyer, Kenneth Copeland, and Benny Hinn is already destroying countless lives in America.
- 03:22
- But it's even more destructive in a continent like Africa, where there tends to be a greater willingness to believe in superstitions.
- 03:30
- Some of the things happening in churches in Africa in the name of Jesus Christ are absolutely horrendous.
- 03:35
- Some of you may have heard about recent events in now our part of the world.
- 03:41
- One that I think we talked about before was a church where a pastor had his people literally out on the front lawn of the church on their hands and knees crawling and eating grass.
- 03:57
- Literally on their hands and knees crawling and eating grass.
- 04:03
- There was another instance where some people have been actually killed because apparently during some service, the pastor sort of manifested as a serpent.
- 04:16
- Again, these types of things are horrendous, but they're becoming all too common.
- 04:22
- And in cultures where there is already a bent toward animism and already a bent toward this sort of ancestral religion and this idea of the spiritual strong man and the witch doctor and so on and so forth.
- 04:38
- In cultures like that, when you introduce ideas that sound very similar to it and put
- 04:45
- Jesus name with it, what you get is a brand of Christianity that is not at all
- 04:52
- Christian. Make no mistake about it. There is absolutely nothing good about Kenneth Copeland and David Oyedepo partnering together to propagate the prosperity gospel in Africa.
- 05:03
- Now today, we are celebrating 37 years of healing ministry, 37 years of preaching the gospel of the word of faith, 37 years by this marvelous man and woman of God.
- 05:26
- Copeland comes right out and says out loud that the gospel he and Oyedepo preach is the gospel of the word of faith and that the one key aspect of this gospel is healing ministry.
- 05:38
- When Copeland refers to healing, is he talking about when he supposedly healed this man in a wheelchair?
- 05:45
- Glory to God, you're not bound to this chair. The day will come you'll walk out of it in the name of Jesus.
- 05:52
- Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. And then Copeland just pretends everything went according to plan, that the power of God is all over him and that the man is perfectly fine.
- 06:04
- Now then you guys just help him up. Help him up. The power of God is all over him. He's not hurt.
- 06:12
- He's not hurt. Praise the God. Praise the Lord. Prosperity preachers like Copeland and Oyedepo use fake healings to dupe countless people into believing that they have special power from God, which means that if people give money to them, they can also receive this special power from God and be healed.
- 06:34
- This is why T .D. Jakes puts on spectacles like this where his daughter pretends to be slain in the spirit or whatever this is.
- 06:42
- May the strength and the power of the almighty God rest upon you.
- 06:51
- Rest upon your life. And this is why Benny Hinn puts on spectacles like this where he knocks people down with his coat.
- 07:11
- This kind of deceptive, thoroughly unbiblical behavior that is intended to exalt these pastors in the eyes of the audience is absolutely despicable.
- 07:21
- And the worst part of it is that it has been exported to Africa where the destruction it causes is magnitudes higher.
- 07:29
- Besides Oyedepo, another extremely popular prosperity preacher in Africa was T .B.
- 07:34
- Joshua. And just take a look at the similar things Joshua did. Welcome to the prayer line section of the synagogue church of all nations where prophet
- 07:43
- T .B. Joshua is ministering prayer to the people in Jesus name. He ministers prayer to this man and the man swings out of the prayer line.
- 07:51
- Prophet T .B. Joshua stretches forth his hand in Jesus name and the man drops to the ground. This is the power and anointing of our
- 07:58
- Lord Jesus Christ throwing the man's back straight on the floor. Wait a minute. The man slowly rises back up and has an intense stare in his eyes.
- 08:09
- This is round two. Prophet T .B. Joshua moves to the right with a kick and down he goes.
- 08:15
- Down on the ground and down for the count. He did not know what hit him. This is Jesus Christ and the power of the
- 08:21
- Holy Spirit. Whatever Joshua is doing here, it is not at all biblical. Instead of emphasizing the gospel of Jesus Christ and preaching about sin and salvation through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone,
- 08:35
- African prosperity preachers emphasize putting on a show and convincing people that they have healing powers because this is what attracts numbers and attention.
- 08:46
- And these prosperity preachers have been incredibly successful in supposedly converting a large percentage of Africans to their false prosperity gospel.
- 08:55
- There was an event in Zambia and Pastor Conrad sent me a text afterwards.
- 09:02
- This big, you know, crusade that happens, miracle crusade that happened. And it was reported that on the last night, 250 ,000 people packed the national stadium.
- 09:13
- Now there probably weren't 250 ,000 people, but here's the interesting thing. If there's this tendency to speak pastorally about numbers, that means lie.
- 09:24
- If there's this tendency to speak pastorally about numbers, then follow me for a moment, okay?
- 09:31
- One could leave here and say there were thousands pastorally speaking, right?
- 09:38
- But there's no way on God's green earth that you leave here going there were 250 ,000 people.
- 09:44
- So even for that to be a stretch, you're talking about 100 ,000 plus, literally, 100 ,000 plus.
- 09:53
- You better believe the topic was not the gospel. The topic was not, you know, come and have your sins forgiven.
- 10:00
- Come and repent and believe, no. You know what it was. Come get your blessing.
- 10:05
- Come get your miracle. Come get your deliverance. Come get your, and the list goes on and on.
- 10:12
- These are the things that thousands flock to. What's especially sickening about all of this is that there is an assumption that all of these people who are coming to these prosperity preachers and supposedly to Jesus, simply because they want a blessing, a miracle, a healing, there is an assumption that they are all
- 10:32
- Christians simply because they want blessings from God. But they have not actually come to Jesus because they have been broken over their sin or because they recognize their need to be saved from God's wrath and judgment.
- 10:45
- And here's the assumption. The assumption is we've already mastered repentance and faith.
- 10:51
- We've already plumbed the depths of the gospel. We've already done all the exposition that we need to do on all the books of the
- 11:00
- Bible. What we need now is that real stuff. The true gospel of Jesus Christ has been so distorted through the prosperity gospel that countless
- 11:11
- Americans and Africans who say they are Christian are not truly Christian because they have come to God and Jesus Christ for selfish and ungodly reasons, not because they have been awakened to the depth of their sin before a holy and righteous
- 11:26
- God. What people need most of all is not healing or a miracle, but salvation from their sin and rebellion against their creator, against an infinitely holy and righteous
- 11:39
- God who will cast all unrepentant sinners into the lake of fire on the last day.
- 11:46
- They need to be broken over their heinous offense against God. They need to sorrowfully repent and turn away from sin, and they need to trust in Jesus Christ alone, not for a miracle, or for healing, or for prosperity, but for salvation from hell.
- 12:07
- And I think preachers like this who preach this stuff hate the true God. I really believe that.
- 12:12
- I believe they hate the true God and they are afraid to death that somebody might find out who
- 12:18
- He really is, that He's a God of absolute sovereignty, that He's a God of absolute knowledge.
- 12:24
- He is a God of perfect wisdom. He is a God of perfect holiness. He is in perfect control of everything, absolutely sovereign over everything.
- 12:31
- That kind of God terrifies these kinds of people. And He is a God who is concerned about fulfilling things on a spiritual level, whether you ever receive anything on a temporal level.
- 12:42
- I think they have hatred for the true God. They hide the true God from the eyes of their followers and they put in His place an idol of their own making with the same
- 12:52
- God. It does you no good to believe a false gospel. As Paul would say in Galatians, that's no gospel at all.
- 13:00
- We must believe the true gospel, the pure gospel. And the only way that people are going to believe the pure gospel and the true gospel is if someone, somewhere, stands up and refutes the false one.
