- 00:02
- Let's turn to John 17 this morning and we were trying to get there all
- 00:23
- Sunday last Sunday And we never made it We're gonna make a double effort this morning to get there because that's the really really really good part of the message
- 00:42
- But let's review a little bit first and I got some things I want you to get in some notes maybe on the back your bulletin or something somewhere
- 00:53
- Still talking about sanctification and remember there are two main ideas here positional and experiential positional and experiential but there are some
- 01:07
- More subtopics than that involved in this and we got started on that last time
- 01:12
- So let's let's put under let's let positional sanctification Be Roman numeral one and let's put an a under that and a is pretty much what we talked about last time, so we didn't get very far in the outline, but We got kind of deep into a and a was this
- 01:41
- Positional sanctification with respect to time and dimension Now we had case you weren't here.
- 01:51
- We had some Verses about that. So let me get you just to jot these down verses like Acts chapter 20 verse 32 and Verses like Jude 1
- 02:06
- They have phrases like this where they say among them which are sanctified and you get into the
- 02:13
- Greek grammar That phrase is perfect Passive participle and you have to look at that because it adds a lot of strength of being able to understand what
- 02:25
- God is saying and So we're looking at sanctification From the point of view of Time, but looking back to a place where there is no time
- 02:38
- To a place where the father is dwelling in the present tense all the time. He's called the
- 02:44
- I am and And this is what this grammar takes us to do because perfect in the grammar in English and in Greek means
- 02:53
- Action which is viewed as having been completed in the past once and for all never having to be done again
- 03:01
- So it's a finished work. Now. Keep that in mind. It's very important in understanding positional sanctification and then passive means
- 03:10
- It's something that is done to us by someone greater than us and we know that's the father
- 03:16
- So it shows that it's not an act that we do ourselves It's something that what we do or don't do plays no part in because it's passive and then participle in the
- 03:28
- English the best equivalent to that would be adding I and G to it and So you might read it this way having been sanctified once and for all
- 03:38
- These verses like Acts 20 32 Jude 1 and others you could read them that way having been sanctified once and for all by the father
- 03:48
- Now The second thing we learned though was that we could even take it deeper than that We could instead of looking at it from time and going back and trying to look at a place that has no time
- 04:00
- We can just go to that place and find some verses that deal only with that That they come straight from God's viewpoint from an outside of time viewpoint.
- 04:10
- A good one is Romans 8 30 Where it says that those whom he did predestinate well that obviously goes to a place before our time
- 04:21
- That's not in our time Then he also called in whom he called them.
- 04:26
- He also justified in whom he justified them. He also glorified so when we look at sanctification from the
- 04:34
- Outside of time viewpoint from God the father's very viewpoint even changes the name of it.
- 04:41
- He calls it glorified Because when we're in time, we're not glorified yet.
- 04:46
- We're being sanctified and yet he sees it as already got done It's not amazing. It's already done in his eyes and all of this has to do with positional
- 04:55
- This is why we call it position positional because it is your position and nothing can change it
- 05:02
- You didn't make it be your position in the first place The father did and he didn't do it in time.
- 05:08
- He did it outside of time before you were ever created So it has nothing to do with our works. It has nothing to do with our our
- 05:15
- Faithfulness it has nothing to do with us It has all to do with him when we deal with that which is positional 1st
- 05:23
- Corinthians 6 11 Is a verse we gave last time It says and such were some of you but you are washed you are sanctified
- 05:34
- Now that phrase you are sanctified is a little bit different than the phrases in the other verses
- 05:41
- We gave earlier where it says you are being sanctified or you are sanctified. This one is even deeper it's in the
- 05:48
- Greek tense aorist a -o -r -i -s -t and You'll all remember the definition for aorist.
- 05:55
- It means punctiliar. Okay, remember that? Punctiliar it means action without regard to time
- 06:03
- It goes to where God is. There's no time there So even the Greek tense is a word that it has nothing to do with time.
- 06:12
- It's also passive and Indicative which means a simple statement of fact
- 06:24
- Then briefly last time towards the end of the message we went to B Capital B under Roman numeral one.
- 06:34
- I remember Roman numeral one is positional sanctification a
- 06:40
- Positional with respect to time and dimension and by dimension if you weren't here last time
- 06:46
- I mean that God is in a different dimension than we are. He's in a higher dimension. We can't under we can't comprehend
- 06:52
- If we're in three dimensions, he's in infinite dimensions. We can't hardly comprehend that B then would be
- 07:01
- Positional with respect to actual position and let me just give you one work verse that will clarify that completely
- 07:09
- That's first Corinthians 1 2 which says unto the Church of God, which is at Corinth to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus called to be saints.
- 07:20
- We are in Christ. Our position is in Christ And so as we'll see when we get into John chapter 7, whatever sanctification means to him it means to us because we're in him and Boy, I hope we get there.
- 07:37
- I just is good. Only the only thing is those who are taking a little vacation today
- 07:44
- God chose to bless those of us who stayed I believe in vacations though. Don't get me wrong Okay Let Me give you a
- 07:56
- Big C under Roman numeral one and this is new material now We didn't cover this last week.
- 08:02
- So we have a which is sanctification with respect to time and dimension B is
- 08:08
- Sanctification with respect to our position in Christ C is the fact that sanctification when we tip when we talk about positional sanctification is
- 08:20
- Unconditional just write down the word unconditional In Hebrews chapter 7 and verse 25 turn to that with me like you to look at it.
- 08:31
- It's beautiful Let our little computers gaze at it and the
- 08:40
- Vehicle of words transport God's mind into our minds this morning on this verse
- 08:52
- We're talking about the fact that positional sanctification is Unconditional it means it has
- 09:00
- There are no conditions that we have to meet other than to be saved If you're saved if you're born again, then there are no conditions that you have to meet
- 09:10
- That add or take away anything from positional sanctification. It is unconditional and there are many reasons why but this verse is beautiful Hebrews 7 25 says
- 09:24
- Wherefore now we have to understand the verse starts out with a word that it's going to refer us to a previous verse But let's go ahead and read this one first wherefore he is
- 09:33
- Able now, it does not say we is able that'd be bad grammar anyway
- 09:40
- But doesn't say we is able it says he is able That means that this is not conditional upon us
- 09:47
- It is what he has done and is doing in our lives Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost now.
- 09:56
- You can't get more saved than that Uttermost very strong word
- 10:01
- Saved to the uttermost them that come into God by him by Jesus Christ Seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them
- 10:14
- Now look at verse 24 because verse 25 starts with the word wherefore so it's gonna tell us why?
- 10:22
- This is true. Why is he able also to save us to the uttermost but this man?
- 10:28
- Because he continueth forever We now find that the
- 10:34
- Son of God is in this Continual present tense.
- 10:40
- He can be in time, but he's also out of time at the same time He continueth ever it puts this in the eternal framework and hath an unchangeable priesthood so our sanctification since it is in Christ and since he continueth forever and since he is able to Save us to the uttermost and since he continually and forever makes intercession for us
- 11:13
- Completely without regard to time always the eternal always Then our sanctification is not conditioned upon what we do or don't do
- 11:23
- It's not conditioned upon our successes and failures. It has nothing to do with them when we're talking about positional sanctification so Big C under Roman numeral one then is that our sanctification is unconditional
- 11:40
- D Put this our sanctification is immutable
- 11:47
- Very similar concept immutable means it never changes Now we're talking about positional sanctification
- 11:56
- We're talking about from the eternal father's eyes Our sanctification does not change it's like a glass that is full it can't get more fuller.
- 12:07
- I Mean, it's either full or it's not full My teacher
- 12:13
- Melba Turner taught me in the two three grades in a little country school
- 12:18
- I went to she said don't say more fuller David if you have to even try to give the idea say more nearly full
- 12:27
- And I've tried to remember that all my life Most of you think you'd learn that in graduate school
- 12:33
- But I learned it in the third grade from Melba Turner more nearly full because it's incorrect to say more full my glass is more full than yours a
- 12:41
- Full glass is full and we are full of this sanctification You can't get more or less sanctified in the father's eyes because to him you're already what?
- 12:53
- Glorified Glorified that's right. So positional sanctification then is immutable.
- 12:59
- It cannot change it has endurance Hebrews chapter 10 verse 10 if you'd like to look at it says this by the which will we are sanctified
- 13:11
- You in English you could add the word already by the which will we are already sanctified
- 13:19
- Through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all why can we say already?
- 13:26
- Because his body has already been offered. It's past tense in time.
- 13:32
- It has already happened It's part of what we call the finished work of Christ It's the work
- 13:37
- Jesus Christ did on our behalf Once and for all we are sanctified through the body of Jesus Christ It's not conditional upon what we do.
- 13:48
- It has everything to do with what he did on the cross Once and for all therefore, it's not immutable
- 13:56
- It cannot change because it's once and for all for by one offering. He have perfected and That's perfect active indicative that means
- 14:09
- Perfect means what? Completed Never needing to be done again active means he actively did it and Indicative means it just flat happened
- 14:26
- Forever so it says for by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are
- 14:33
- Sanctified which is present Passive participle, which means we didn't do this to ourselves
- 14:40
- So we see in the grammar we see in the words we see in the concepts it's like a mathematical equation
- 14:47
- We are sanctified once and for all forever and ever by one that is greater than us who has finished the work
- 14:56
- Hallelujah, that just takes us through D. Now. Let's look at E E is this
- 15:03
- Positional sanctification is Based fully upon the work and merit of Jesus Christ With no part being based upon anything in us now that's conditional to what we
- 15:17
- I mean That's similar to what we studied under conditional or unconditional I should say But this is more specific.
- 15:24
- It says that our conditional I'm getting abused here our
- 15:29
- Positional sanctification is Based fully upon the work and merit of Jesus Christ With no part being based upon anything in us or anything we have done
- 15:43
- Let me give you Hebrews chapter 10 and verse 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all
- 15:55
- And it is his death on the cross His body and his blood the bread and the wine
- 16:04
- As that pictures his life that was given for us On that cross that brings our sanctification
- 16:13
- Remember in the Old Testament days that when the offering was placed on the altar the altar sanctified the offering
- 16:21
- Jesus rebuked the Pharisees about that point because they had it backwards naturally and Everyone who wants to think about works salvation is going to have that backwards
- 16:31
- But the moment that we were placed on that altar Which is the Lord Jesus Christ when we were placed in him.
- 16:39
- We were sanctified because of our contact with him It's all about what he has done
- 16:44
- It's all based totally and completely and fully upon his work that he finished on that cross
- 16:52
- So our position has to do with our standing our state the family that we're a part of the
- 17:01
- Occupation that we have now the job that we have to do because of the family we're in and because of whom we serve in Our country what country we came from all of these things
- 17:15
- Deal with our positional sanctification So now
- 17:21
- Roman numeral two, which we're not going to go into today But Roman numeral two and your outline is going to be the continuing work of God Or you might put present tense in in time and we call it experiential sanctification
- 17:39
- We will not get into that today, but we will eventually experiential sanctification in time
- 17:46
- Now there are going to be two kinds of experiential sanctification Now to differentiate that from positional remember positional has to do with the position you're placed in by the one who's greater than you
- 17:59
- You you really have nothing to do with it Experiential has to do with what happens in time
- 18:07
- So positional much of it comes from outside of time and it can come down into time and it's still true in time
- 18:14
- But experiential just strictly has to do with what happens in time and there are two aspects of that We'll just call it active and passive And we'll use the grammatical terms active means stuff you do
- 18:28
- Passive things God through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God is doing to us in time But we'll get into that later right now
- 18:35
- What I'd like for you to do is turn to John chapter 17 and let's finish our little study on Roman numeral one
- 18:41
- In this passage, I think this passage will not only Bring to light the awesome nature of the fact that we have sanctification
- 18:55
- Positionally, which is something that the devil himself cannot change
- 19:00
- It's something that nothing in the created universe can change. It's something that you yourselves can't change about your own self
- 19:09
- It's something that's in the hands of God and this chapter will show us the depth and the beauty and What you really have?
- 19:20
- What is it that this position brings to you as a child of God? Notice in John chapter 17 in verse 1
- 19:29
- It says these words spake Jesus and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said father
- 19:34
- The hour is come so this entire chapter is a prayer Jesus lifts up his eyes to heaven looks into the
- 19:43
- Father's eyes and prays and speaks with him in The entire chapter all the way to the end is a part of this prayer
- 19:53
- We're going to see some things inside this prayer That are true of us because they are true of Jesus Christ and when you take the fact that we have
- 20:06
- Positional sanctification which means our position is in Christ we're going to see that Jesus Christ himself says that what
- 20:16
- I have you have and Look at the areas in which this is true just in this chapter.
- 20:23
- Let's go all the way to verse 13 John chapter 17 verse 13 So we're gonna see in these little passages these verses that Jesus is going to be saying this little formula throughout
- 20:35
- He's gonna be saying as I am Or have this so you have this
- 20:44
- Just like I have this in the same manner that I have this you have this now remember that formula because it goes throughout the entire rest of the sermon as I have this you have this now, let's look at the first one
- 21:01
- Verse 13 and now come I to thee Remember, he's talking to the father because this is a prayer and these things
- 21:10
- I speak in the world That they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves
- 21:20
- The first thing that we have because of our position is Not that we have happiness.
- 21:26
- We're joking about your Vehicle situation and that doesn't necessarily make us happy, but your pin on your jacket this morning says rejoice
- 21:36
- Why can you rejoice in the midst of everything that comes about? Why could my my dad?
- 21:43
- Rejoice not that he was happy But he could have joy in his heart even on a month where he lost two of his brothers in the same
- 21:51
- Time period how can he still have the joy of God in his heart? Well, he could probably tell you how better than I can tell you but I can tell you one reason is verse 13
- 22:01
- Jesus says That they might have not happiness Worked up within themselves not any kind of happiness that they could have in and of themselves because of anything they're doing or because of any
- 22:14
- Circumstance in life or because of any other human being in life. In fact, it's not something that They have that's of themselves at all.
- 22:24
- He says it's my joy So this is not something we have that's like what
- 22:31
- Jesus has This is something we have that is the same thing Jesus has and that is his joy
- 22:38
- That they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. Not only is it that you have it
- 22:44
- But it will be fulfilled. That means you may use it That means it comes to play.
- 22:49
- This is not only Positional and the truth that you have the joy of Jesus Christ in your life today
- 22:56
- But it's experiential in the fact that Jesus has prayed and asked the father in a prayer to the father a request made to the
- 23:04
- Father may that joy be fulfilled in their lives. Now. Let me ask you this Kenji. Would Jesus's prayer be answered?
- 23:13
- Would the father deny any prayer that the son ever asked? Can you think of one that he ever asked that was denied?
- 23:21
- Not really if you're careful Not a one why because he never asked anything outside of the father's will
- 23:30
- He never said anything. He never thought anything He never did a deed and he never prayed a prayer that did not originate in heaven first and come from the father into his heart why because he had all of the fullness of the
- 23:43
- Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is the mind and heart of God if not other things but The Holy Spirit brought to Jesus the very heart and mind and will of God the father and The desires and the plans and what's going about to happen that Jesus being in time
- 24:02
- Wasn't looking at yet. The father could bring it to him and have him ask for it Did you know that's true of you and me as well?
- 24:11
- in our prayer lives But you see what he's saying. He has said now they have
- 24:16
- Positionally the joy that I have because they're in me But he prays his father now help them to work this out so that in their life in time it comes to play in Practicality where they use it.
- 24:28
- They use this joy and it comes to play So the first thing we have that Jesus has is the very joy that he has now
- 24:38
- Let's look at a second one turn to verse 14 now down to verse 14.
- 24:45
- I Have given them thy word and the world hath hated them
- 24:51
- Because they are not of the world Even as now I want you to notice this little phrase even as because it comes into play in a lot of these today
- 25:00
- He is like a little formula Even as they are not of the world even as I am
- 25:07
- NOT of the world. Now this word in the Greek is kathos And it means in exactly the same manner
- 25:16
- So Jesus is saying in the way that I am NOT of this world Identically in that same way they are not of this world
- 25:28
- So the second thing that I see that we have because of our position in Christ is that we have the same
- 25:34
- Homeland that Jesus has he looked at those Pharisees and he said you are from beneath But he said
- 25:41
- I am from above He said you can't come where I'm going Why because they're
- 25:48
- Satan's seed They don't belong there never have never will not even in God's heart and mind in eternity what we call eternity past Not in what we would see is eternity future not in the present tense.
- 26:00
- They don't belong in God's family They are not from God's homeland They're not from the same country the beautiful Hebrews chapter 11 the the hall of faith
- 26:10
- Talks about the fact that all of these saints of God Hath another country that is not this country and they're looking into that country.
- 26:19
- It's the same country In Christ, we have the same homeland the same origin.
- 26:26
- He said I proceeded forth and came out from God Did you know that even though the Mormons are wrong when they say your soul was floating around up there and God just had to Have a body when you were born.
- 26:36
- He stuck it in there That's not exactly how it works But I will say this you're you were always in the heart and mind of God the
- 26:44
- Father There was never a time since he's in the think about it If he's present tense and you're in him now you had to be in him whenever we call then
- 26:53
- Even though it's not then to him our past Before out before Genesis 1 and verse 1 before that time
- 27:01
- We were already there in God's heart and mind because he's that he's here now I can't get there in my thinking on this time issue, but it's a greater dimension than we're in, isn't it?
- 27:14
- And I'll tell you this that positionally You Are from the same home the same origin
- 27:22
- You are therefore not part of the world in the bad moral sense of the use of the word world in the
- 27:28
- Bible Jesus called it from beneath. You're not part of beneath You never were from beneath even before you got born again.
- 27:35
- You were not from beneath you were from above You just didn't know it yet Now Jesus has a way of letting us know just like he did the
- 27:47
- Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus who Lord, what would you have me to do? and he called him
- 27:54
- Lord for a reason and he knew him for a reason because Jesus said my sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me didn't say that might he did they do
- 28:07
- So we have this same homeland as he says in verse 14
- 28:13
- I've given them thy word They are not of the world just in exactly the same manner as I'm not of the world
- 28:20
- It's not like we're a mirror image of him. You've heard people say we're little Jesus's know a positional sanctification means
- 28:27
- Just like he's not of the world. We're not and it doesn't say that our joy is a little mirror image of his joy
- 28:33
- It says it's his joy We're in Christ. Our home is his home.
- 28:39
- His home is our home Our origin is his origin. His origin is our origin where he came from He came forth and proceeded out from the father.
- 28:47
- So did you and Nothing can change that no circumstance
- 28:53
- No person no thought no deed that you ever do or lack of good deeds that you don't do can ever change the fact that your origin is from the same place as Jesus is because Jesus said so in verse 14 and he says
- 29:06
- I pray not that thou should take them out of the world He said I know it's gonna be rough here It hasn't been that easy on me
- 29:14
- I'm sure Jesus was thinking at this point in his life on the earth But he said I'm not asking you father.
- 29:20
- I'm praying for these people I'm not asking you just to take them out with me right now because I know that's not your will
- 29:25
- Why would he not ask for God to take us out because what in his will why didn't you say father? May the rapture happen now
- 29:32
- It was not as well and the son knew that So he says I'm not asking that you take them out of the world, but that thou should keep them from the evil one
- 29:42
- In the Greek language emphasis on the is on the one who brings the evil not the evil as Satan himself the enemy
- 29:48
- That you keep them is what Jesus was praying They are not of the world
- 29:55
- Even as and the word even is the word kathos in the same manner as I'm not of the world
- 30:02
- He reemphasizes it now. Let's go to the third similarity. I don't want to use the word similarity because that's a bad word
- 30:10
- Let's go to the third Thing we have in common with Christ because of our position you see how similarities too weak
- 30:20
- It's not the right word Well, we have the same mission look down at verse 17.
- 30:26
- We have the same mission He uses the word sanctify here in verse 17 sanctify them through thy truth now
- 30:37
- Let me stop and ask you would that be positional or is that experiential sanctification if he's talking about the
- 30:44
- Word of God Experiential which we'll talk about in the future but It is is all good works together
- 30:55
- But in as far as our studies this would be experiential because we will choose when to pick up a
- 31:00
- Bible and when not to And that's experiential but yet as We have the son praying to the father a request
- 31:10
- Asking the father to sanctify us then all of a sudden you have to ask the question. Will that be answered or not?
- 31:16
- What's the answer to that question? So then we talk about experiential passive Sanctification which means it's going to happen to us whether we cooperate or not
- 31:28
- Now there is that one little part of this whole study that we'd call experiential active and that's where we cooperate
- 31:33
- And that's where we started out talking about how he said the first year in the second year You'll eat of the fruit that just comes up from the land.
- 31:40
- That's Positional but he says the third year. I want you to go out and work the dirt a little bit You can even bear more fruit if you'll participate in time and you see how it all comes together but look at verse 18 as Thou has sent me
- 31:59
- Into the world even so this is the this is a slightly different Greek word than even so even as Even as was the word
- 32:08
- Cotho's which means in the same manner even so is the Greek word cargo and I want you to write that down because It's it's very very strong I'll show you this in a moment cargo k -a -g -o
- 32:22
- He says as thou has sent me into the world Even so have
- 32:27
- I also sent them into the world So we see that we have the same joy because we're in Christ We see that we are from the same origin and the same home as Christ is and now thirdly
- 32:41
- We see he sent us here for the same purpose with the same mission And he says even so have
- 32:48
- I sent them just like I was sent even so have I sent them into the world now Cargo is a little bit stronger word than Cotho's and It comes from a couple of little
- 32:59
- Greek words. The first one is kahi, which is spelled k -a -i And you get a lot of sound out of those three little letters kahi kahi is
- 33:13
- Copulative Go ahead write it down you'll figure it out later copulative and cumulative
- 33:21
- It has copulative and cumulative force Now that's what the
- 33:28
- Greek scholars tell us about this word And it's kahi plus the little word ego or a go but it sounds like ego in English And that is the word that means
- 33:38
- I I It's only used in the emphatic
- 33:45
- Tense in the Greek language you put those little words together Jesus is saying this just as thou has sent me into the world
- 33:55
- Even so have I sent them now this little idea of copulative means connected
- 34:04
- Connected and cumulative means that when the connection is made There is a synergy that's created so that you have two people but they can do the work of six people
- 34:14
- Because of the synergy the teamwork Do you see so Jesus is saying
- 34:21
- Just as you sent me into the world, even so I am connected with my people
- 34:27
- It's copulative. I am connected with my people and it creates a cumulative force
- 34:33
- That is more powerful than even just me being here He said you will do greater things than I do.
- 34:40
- Do you remember when he said that? And so we have the same mission he says just as I was sent to the world
- 34:48
- I Come and and connected with them and create a synergy and a teamwork and a power
- 34:55
- Through them and in them that causes them to be sent into the world for the same purpose
- 35:00
- But in a far more powerful way than when I was walking on the earth What is his mission?
- 35:06
- He as I am sent so are they sent well What about the
- 35:14
- Phrase where he says I came to seek and to save that which is lost. That's one of his purposes
- 35:20
- We're supposed to be witnesses. You can look up at verse 8 here in chapter 17 and see one of his purposes
- 35:26
- He says for I have given to them The words which thou gavest me and they have received them and have come have known surely that I came out from thee
- 35:36
- And they have believed Thou didst send me we were sent into the world and given the words
- 35:46
- So we're supposed to spread the words we're supposed to teach the words just like Jesus taught the
- 35:52
- Word of God and he says to feed my sheep and All the way back in verse 1 of chapter 17.
- 35:58
- He says I came to glorify the Father So we're here to glorify the Father Whatever purpose and mission that you see that Jesus was sent here to do
- 36:08
- He says even so I sent them even in a stronger way All right the fourth
- 36:16
- Point we see is found in verse 21 Verse 21 says that they all may be one as thou father art in me and I in thee
- 36:36
- That they also now notice the phrase they also may be one in us
- 36:42
- That the world may believe that thou has sent me the word also once again is the word kahi
- 36:50
- K -a -i kahi copulative cumulative Force so that means as We are connected to the vine as The branch is connected to the vine it creates a powerful teamwork and synergy that Creates what
- 37:14
- Jesus did but even more powerful in us So in this case, what are we talking about that?
- 37:20
- They may be one in us as we were one. We're talking about unity We are one with the
- 37:25
- Father We are one with each other in Exactly the same manner and yet perhaps with a slightly greater force because we have
- 37:34
- Christ in us We have this copulative aspect of this and the cumulative aspect.
- 37:41
- We have each other all together So that we are one with the Father one with each other as Jesus is one with the
- 37:47
- Father And all of his own It's not that we're supposed to get along It's not that we're supposed to just not bicker
- 38:00
- It's that we have the same unity that the Father and the Son have
- 38:07
- Because we're in Christ and not only do we have that oneness with one another but with the
- 38:14
- Father Now think about that When Jesus says
- 38:19
- I and the Father are one there's a oneness there a communion and a unity there
- 38:26
- That because you are in Christ you have that same Oneness and union with the
- 38:31
- Father that Jesus had have you ever thought about it that way? Now it's copulative which means you have to be in Christ and connected to Christ for this to be true that happens at salvation though So now it's positional.
- 38:47
- It's a fact. It's not something you have to work up or make happen It's not something you have to try to make happen
- 38:53
- It's not something where you can go out and do a whole bunch of things to please the Father to make this happen
- 38:59
- The fact is you are positionally one with the Father now Because you're in Christ and also we're one with each other
- 39:10
- Positionally we are absolutely in agreement on everything Positionally, we're absolutely one on every issue in life because we're all in Christ and we're the same body
- 39:20
- We are his body and he is our head. We're the same body Now, let's move on.
- 39:26
- I know we're getting close to fried chicken time. So look at number five verse 22
- 39:35
- It just it I mean if possible it just gets better and better Verse 22 says and the glory which thou gavest me
- 39:46
- I have given Them so which glory is this?
- 39:51
- This is like he makes us to be a glory of one glory and he makes Jesus to be the glory of another glory
- 39:57
- Or does he say that same glory? I gave him them the same glory that the
- 40:02
- Father gave Jesus I Jesus says now I've turned around and given it to them that they may be one this brings back the unity idea
- 40:09
- Even as we are one So the fifth point here then is the glory that the son had with the father for all eternity you have
- 40:22
- Proverbs 8 22 the Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way Before his works of old
- 40:28
- I was set up from everlasting from the beginning or ever the earth was
- 40:33
- When there were no depths I was brought forth This is Jesus when there were no fountains abounding with water before the mountains were settled before the hills
- 40:43
- Was I brought forth? While as yet he had not made the earth nor the fields nor the highest part of the dust of the world
- 40:50
- When he prepared the heavens I was there when he set a compass upon the face of the depth when he established the clouds above When he strengthened the fountains of the deep when he gave to the sea his decree that the water should not pass his commandment when he
- 41:05
- Appointed the foundations of the earth Then I was by him as one brought up with him and I was daily his delight
- 41:14
- Rejoicing always before him that is a glorious thing that the
- 41:19
- Son of God had but you have it in him and In fact in the mind of God you were just as really there as he was in reality
- 41:30
- You just hadn't been created yet But he were in his mind and heart in the same way
- 41:35
- Jesus was there in a real way at this time So he says the glory the very same glory that thou gavest me
- 41:46
- Have I given unto them so that they may be one you have to be one you have the same glory that the
- 41:53
- Son of God has and So that certainly gives new meaning to Colossians chapter 1 verse 27 where it says to whom
- 42:01
- God would make known What is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is
- 42:07
- Christ in you the hope of glory? Now let's go to the next one verse 23
- 42:16
- This one is awesome verse 23
- 42:22
- I in them and Thou and me
- 42:29
- That they may be made perfect in one. That's the unity and Then it goes on to a new idea and That the world may know that thou has sent me but this last phrase is what
- 42:43
- I'm getting at here and Has loved them circle the word as The word as is the
- 42:53
- Greek word kathos which means in exactly and precisely the same manner in the same proportion as in the same degree that and Has and thou the
- 43:04
- Father Jesus Christ says Has loved them in the same degree that thou has loved me
- 43:14
- Have you ever in your whole life realized that the Father loves you?
- 43:21
- Not that he just loves you Sometimes we think of a lot. Oh, I'm an adopted child
- 43:27
- That's not what that doctrines all about This says with the same precise love that he loves his only begotten son
- 43:38
- He loves all of his children You were in that love you were living in it
- 43:44
- It is positional and nothing you do can change it if you're his today And if you're not his today or you don't know that you're his yet it'd make you want to know wouldn't it
- 43:58
- If you've ever sat out there and you said I'm not really sure I'm saved Do you desire that love?
- 44:05
- Do you desire to be loved by the father with the same love that he loved Jesus Christ? Receive him
- 44:14
- That's what he said as many as receive him to the end to them give gave you the power to Become the sons of God and those sons positionally have the same love from the father that Jesus Christ had precisely the same the word caught those proves that in verse 23 and Lastly verse 24 teaches us which sums it all up that we have the same position as the son
- 44:37
- Because we're in him look at verse 24 Father I will that they also remember he's praying
- 44:46
- Jesus is telling the father that it was his desire It's Jesus's desire
- 44:52
- That they also which which is us That they also whom thou hast given me
- 45:00
- Be with me wherever I am Isn't that amazing
- 45:07
- Does that sum up the word position? Wherever Jesus is is where you are right now
- 45:14
- Otherwise this prayer was not answered, but I think Jesus's prayers were all answered Positionally you are seated in the heavenlies in Christ at the right hand of the father right now far above anything in this world far above Sin far above temptation far above tribulation far above a vehicle that won't work for far above the law itself far above the principalities that be here
- 45:40
- You are seated in Christ Your position is the same. I pray
- 45:48
- That it is my desire that they also whom thou has given me be with me where I am
- 45:55
- That they may behold my glory Which thou hast given? them
- 46:01
- Have given me for thou lovest me before the foundation of the world
- 46:08
- And he's given us that very same love Now to close this morning.
- 46:14
- I want you to I want to leave you with one thought turn to Romans chapter 6 If you weren't taking notes,
- 46:20
- I know you can't remember everything we talked about but I know you can remember the idea I Know that you can remember the idea of your position in Christ and that nothing that you do nothing you say
- 46:31
- Nothing anyone does nothing that any power that's ever been created. Nothing can change your position and We have all these wonderful things
- 46:40
- We have the very joy that Jesus has it is his joy and we have it and he prayed and asked the father that we
- 46:46
- Learn how to use it in time. We have the same homeland We are from the same origin the same place as he is.
- 46:55
- We are not from beneath We are from above we have the same mission whether it be to seek and save that which is lost or whether it be to bring
- 47:03
- Glory to the father whether it bring to take his word to take the bread to everyone that we see
- 47:08
- Whatever his mission was we have that mission together with him in the copulative sense
- 47:14
- We have the same oneness with the father and with each other that Jesus Christ has with the father and with us
- 47:22
- We have the same glory That Jesus had with him before the world was made
- 47:29
- You have it now if you can't see it It's because we're not in the word nothing enough and our faith is not strong enough and we're not on our knees and on our
- 47:38
- Face enough, but we have it We have the same love The love that the father has for the only begotten is the same love he has for all of his children
- 47:50
- Not any different but the same Because we're in Christ and that's what we found out in verse 24
- 47:59
- May they be where I am Now with all that being true and no one in the room doubts one word of what
- 48:07
- God has said because God said it and That's what faith is is that believing that what
- 48:12
- God said is better than what we think Believing what God said is true and what Satan says and the enemy says is false what the world brings to us
- 48:21
- Teenagers and young people what the world brings to us is a lie He died into sin once let me ask you this were you in Christ when he died if you're saved today
- 48:32
- Yes, you were But in that he liveth he liveth unto God. Let me ask you this if you're saved
- 48:39
- Are you in Christ living unto God today is? Your position such that you're living unto him today
- 48:46
- Well, then look what the great apostle Paul exhorts us to do in verse 11 likewise
- 48:52
- Reckon you also yourselves to be dead. The old man is dead positionally.
- 48:58
- The old man is dead Reckon it count it to be a fact that is walking by faith
- 49:05
- God says it's a fact God says those that are in Christ are crucified that's past tense
- 49:12
- The day Jesus was crucified you were crucified. It's a done thing. It's finished
- 49:18
- God says that's true. The question is will you believe it? Because if you believe it then you reckon it to be true when you reckon it to be true you bring it into time
- 49:29
- You bring it into sequence you bring it into into steps in a walk and you bring it into today and tomorrow and Tuesday and on into the week and Then it becomes real in the physical realm as well as the spiritual realm and that's what it's all about Let's stand and have prayer together
- 49:49
- If someone would come to the piano, I'd like to offer an invitation this morning Someone may like to come and just Get on your face before the
- 50:01
- Lord and thank him for what he's given us we don't use it do we We didn't understand a lot of it until this morning, but we see a lot of it now
- 50:11
- Question is will we go out and use it this week? Will it be applied? If the Lord calls you to come to the altar you come
- 50:20
- We'll pray and then you come when the piano plays father. We ask you to move in our hearts We know you already have we ask you to seal some of the truths within our hearts for the rest of our lives and Holy Spirit we ask you to Walk in us and cause these things to be brought forth as fruit in this world
- 50:38
- Today and tomorrow and days to come we ask it in Jesus name. Amen.
