Bro. Otis Fisher
Today we are continuing in Romans the 8th chapter verse 13 and he plainly tells us for if you live after or according to the flesh you shall die but if ye through the spirit do mortify or kill the deeds of the body you shall live.
Dennis I want to know the difference how is it that we live according to the flesh? What does mortify mean Dennis? All right I am in the pondering. Greg help me out if I kill the deeds of the body kill the deeds of the body how can I do that and still be alive?
All right that sounds like pretty good advice but how do you do that? All right we're gaining on it. Russell how do you and I suppose you do follow the deeds of the spirit? Joy do we have fellowship with the Father when we live after the flesh?
Are you sure? What? David is it true that we live through the spirit? All right can you do that yourself? All right all right for as man as many for as many are led by the Spirit of God they are the sons of God as many who is this many that it's speaking of Dennis?
All right the elect who came in on the back? Who? Debbie oh okay thank you for as many the elect are led by the Spirit of God they are the sons of God. Greg why didn't it say we are driven? Is this a passive or a active verb?
All right that the Holy Spirit of God performs the office of a guide and leader to all the children of God. He gives life and motion to them by infusing gracious habits. You become more and more Christlike the longer you live hopefully.
Ezekiel 36 26 someone turn there please 26 27 28 who has it start with 26 go through 30 28 36 28. Yes now this seems to be a new thing way back in the Ezekiel thousands of years before Christ. He says I will a new heart also will I give you and a new spirit will I put in your body.
What's he talking about. Dennis all right. By having the soul to act suitably there unto and by assisting it in acting he gives direction and guidance to them that he directs in his actions. He does this by enlightening their understanding by guiding their inclinations by influencing and inclining their wills.
And where he guides he governs a general that leads an army orders its marches. As Christ has was so the Holy Spirit is as Christ was so the Holy Spirit is a leader and commander to the people. So who is it that is leading and commanding us today.
Joy the Holy Spirit. Why isn't it Christ. All right. David why isn't Christ leading me today. All right. Greg why is Christ not present today. All right. Russell. What if he were present today. What if he had never gone away.
Dennis why isn't the Holy Spirit and Christ here today. Both of them all right. David. What if it was still Christ walking this earth. Exactly because he sent his spirit. That was a master stroke of ingenuity to send his spirit into every one of the elect.
Now what did you say. Yes we have the instruction book and we have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit interprets the instruction book and we act it out in 15. He says for you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear but you have received the spirit of adoption.
Thereby we cry Abba Father please notice. He said you have received. He does not say that you have accepted. What's the difference. Dennis. Right. No that difference 16. The spirit itself bearing bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.
The spirit himself bears witness. What does that mean to bear witness. David. But how does he do that. He tells our spirit now. Yes. Yes. Yes. As Kenner says it just comes with you. We just know it. I can't find a piece of paper or a document.
Or I can't write anything. I can't explain it. I just know it and I know it through the spirit. Yes. Well you've asked a very profound question and you limited it to an island. I believe if you lived on the island and you heard about the word from your mother.
Yes. He would indwell you if there were no Bibles in the world if it had never been written. If there was not such a thing as God's Holy Word then he would have to change everything. He wouldn't be complete.
Well it's done silently. I cannot sit here and ask you all to excuse me. While I go over and talk with the spirit and I say words to speak to the spirit. That's not the way it's done. The spirit reads our heart reads our intent.
And it is through the spirit that connection that the Holy Spirit has to our spirit that we are informed of God. I thank God that we have the word. It's not a case of supposition. We have the word and by the way this is all we're going to get until he comes back.
God causes his children to know that he leads them the unsaved. And not so can you think back before you were saved. Well it's so difficult now that you're saved. Take someone that is not saved and he you you know he's not saved.
Does he hear the Lord speaking. Does he come to church and enjoy and feel enriched when he leaves. No. God causes his children to know that he leads them. He causes them to know it. It's not a matter of you finding it out.
He causes you to find it out even though they're doing his will. And by the way God's will is being done. Everybody is doing God's will. I can't explain it Russell. But if he's sovereign then that's what's happening in Daniel 435.
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing. All the inhabitants are as nothing. And he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And none can stay his hand or say unto him what doest thou.
So that that eliminates man's will. In John 10 27 we have my sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me. My sheep hear my voice. There was a time when you did not hear his voice and then there was a time when you did hear his voice and the time was selected by God the Father 17.
And if children or since you are children then you are heirs. You're an heir of God and joint heir with Christ. If so be that we suffer with him that we may be also glorified together with him. Now. And if or since you are a child of God then you are an heir of God.
In Philippians 129 we read for unto you it is given in behalf of Christ not only to believe on him but also to suffer for his sake. Now what does it mean to be an heir with Christ. Let me get some thoughts on this Russell.
All right. So what does it mean to be a joint heir and not a co-heir. Again. All right. That's right. Do you do you understand that a joint heir with Christ not a co-heir he would have to divide among 15 billion people.
And you'd get your share. But a joint heir you get what he gets 18. For I reckon I like that. I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us now.
Greg no matter how much you suffer no matter Dennis how awful it is no matter joy if it breaks your heart the worst thing that could happen to us is to die. The worst thing is to live in an awful deplorable rat infested world.
Think of all the awfulness of the world. Paul says that's not to be compared with the glory that shall be ours sometimes. Dennis in my life there's been once or twice that I I could have questioned that I didn't but I could have.
It's revealed in us. Notice. He did not say revealed to us but in us. What's the difference. David. All right. Now tell me who are these outside observers. As far as I know that's it because there are no others that we know of.
But it will be displayed in us. 19. For the earnest expectation of the creature or creation waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. Well Fred the earnest expectation what's that mean. All right.
Could we say. Dennis. It's an earnest anticipation. For the earnest expectation the anticipation of the creation. And David. What is creation. Has man discovered it all. Will we ever discover it all. Well all of this stuff that you have not seen all of the things that have been kept from us in the creation all of it is anticipating watching waiting for the rapture of God's sons.
It's all waiting on the rapture. The manifestation. What's that mean. Joy manifestation. All right. When we are made known. And it includes everything that he has made. The whole creation is waiting for the creature or creation was made subject to vanity.
Not willingly but by reason of him whom hath subjected the same in hope. Now for the creation was made subject to vanity. Not willingly. What's that mean. Dennis. Not willingly. All right. Turn back to Genesis 317.
Rated Russell the entire creation become cursed at that moment. Now Greg was it cursed when Adam did that. Or when the Lord found it out. All right. But by reason of him who has subjected the same in hope.
Who is this. David. Him 24. By reason of him who is the him. Yes it's not Adam. It's the Lord himself. He has put a curse on it. He is the one that subjected the whole creation to less than perfect. That's right.
Yes sure. He planned for the Lord to to be the one that would retrieve it for him. Now let me ask you a question. What would have happened. And this is playing the what-if game to leave the world righteous and leave fallen man in it.
Man has sinned and the world is righteous. Dennis explained that. Greg explained to me why. Right. Righteous man. Man in the state of sin was not left in a perfect environment. All right. Then Russell the imperfect environment is part of our schooling.
Is that right. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the precious Liberty into the glorious Liberty of the children of God. The creation itself shall be delivered set at Liberty from the dominion of sin from the bondage of corruption into the glorious Liberty of the children of God.
There will be a new world just like we get a new body to go with our new life. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and prevails in pain together until now in Jeremiah 12. For we have how long shall the land mourn and the herbs of every field wither for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
So God spoke of it several times through the Old Testament verse 23. And not only they but ourselves also which have the first fruits of the Spirit even we ourselves grown within ourselves waiting for the adoption to wit the redemption of our body.
Persons who had been privately adopted among the Romans were. Well that goes into adoption. I want to know something else. For we know that the whole creation groaneth to them that prevail in about 23.
And not only they but ourselves also which have the first fruits. Not only they. What is the they. Greg. Not only the creation but ourselves we the elect also which have the first fruits of the Spirit.
What's that mean. David. All right have the first fruits. We have the first fruits. It's not going to have or I had it's have the first fruits even we ourselves grown within ourselves waiting for the adoption to with the redemption of our bodies.
Adoption is rather interesting that he would use that term. But it carries in the Roman government and in all of the governments of the world. I suppose a special process 24. For we are saved by hope.
But hope that is seen is not hope for what a man says. Why does he yet hope for it. We are saved by hope. Now is hope the instrument of our condition. No then what is hope. We are saved by hope. Have we attained salvation only in in the state of hope.
I hope for the resurrection of a body. I hope with assurance of my salvation. But in reality it's still a hope assurance to know that we are saved that we are in an attitude of waiting for the future state of adoption.
But perhaps the world saved may mean here's the word. Here may mean simply that we are kept preserved sustained in our trials which we are. Our trials are so great that nothing but the prospect of future deliverance would uphold us.
And a prospect is sufficient to enable as to bear them with patience. Impatience is my worst enemy. I don't mind waiting for it. I want it right now 25. But if we hope for that that we see not then we do with patience wait for it.
Remember the old saying. And it's old because I've said it so many times over the years. If two things are related are so related that the condition of one is the condition of the other. Then the existence of one is evidence that the other also exists.
Think of it think it through and then think through it. We have electricity. I can't see electricity but I know it's in here because I have the light. Now since God's faith is the procuring cause or condition of sonship with God then the existence of faith is the evidence that we are a son of God.
The Son of God is coupled with faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. So since we have faith we have the product but as yet it's still in the form of substance. We don't have it literally.
It's still the substance. I can't see substance. So it's not the finished product yet is it is it. Likewise the spirit also help us our infirmities. For we know not what we should pray for as we ought.
But the spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now this process of prayer we pray and we pray earnestly. I hope we pray in the spirit. I hope by the way the spirit never gets tired never takes a vacation never sleeps.
The spirit our spirit his spirit he sent his spirit to us his spirit will help us in praying. Now the spirit knows the mind of God and he knows my mind. He is the go-between. He takes what I say and translates it into a language or whatever that the Godhead can understand.
He knows my infirmities. But I don't know how to pray. I don't know what to pray for. What might look good to me might not be the best. And it's put into words or groanings or utterances or a language that we cannot utter.
It cannot be said. We cannot find words or write down words to explain what the Holy Spirit has for us. Now what's this do to the lost person. But he thinks he can. Russell what's in what is he praying.
Well we find the Middle East. They're in a week of whatever and they're the Chinese have a prayer wheel and every morning they go by and they spin it as they go to work. And that gives off all of their prayers.
And we have people bow down to whatever and that supposed to represent prayers. What are they doing. I think. Let me read you something from the Amplified Bible. So to the Holy Spirit comes to our spirit and comes to our aid and bears us up in our weaknesses.
For we do not know what to pray to offer. What prayer to offer and or how to offer it worthy as we ought. But the Spirit himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our Hill behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterances.
So if I could talk to the hip.
