00:15
Welcome to another installment of Fighting for the Faith. My name is Chris Roseborough. I am your servant in Jesus Christ.
00:20
This is the channel that compares what people are saying in the name of God to the Word of God. So let me ask you a question.
00:27
Have you ever had somebody or heard somebody in the visible church or claims to be a Christian that, you know,
00:33
God is, well, bored? You know, bored. He's, in that you would ask him for such small things, you know, and in fact
00:45
God wants you to ask for big stuff. And the reason why you don't have the life of your dreams is because of your small thinking and your small prayers.
00:55
Yeah, if you've ever heard that, go ahead and like the video down below and don't forget to, you know, like it and subscribe and, you know, all the
01:05
YouTubey stuff that you're supposed to do. We're gonna be heading over to the
01:13
YouTube channel of Terry Savelle Foy. She is the daughter of one of the major Word of Faith heretics,
01:19
Jerry Savelle, and we're gonna be listening to an extremely offensive false teaching, and she claims in the midst of this video to have received direct revelation from God.
01:33
We'll test that along the way, too. But we're gonna, let me ask you this, is God insulted because you don't ask for big things?
01:41
Yeah, no, not at all. In fact, let's head over to the desktop. There we go.
01:47
Whirl up the web browser and we'll let Terry Savelle Foy explain this to us by regaling us with a story about a trip to Africa that Oral Roberts went on with,
02:01
Oral Roberts went on with her father, Jerry Savelle. Here we go. Back in the 1980s, my dad and Oral Roberts, you remember the famous preacher?
02:10
They went to Kenya together. Yeah, the famous false prophet, Oral Roberts. Yeah, I'm aware of him.
02:15
Oral Roberts heard that my dad was doing all this work in Africa, so he wanted to go and see what all he was doing and get involved.
02:22
Well, my dad was sort of freaking out because this was his hero. Oral Roberts wants to go to Africa with him to see what he's doing.
02:29
So they flew to Kenya and they had this big ceremony set up, and I mean like the president of Kenya, all these government officials.
02:37
President of Kenya? I mean, that sounds like a big deal. Doctors, all these prominent people.
02:43
Prominent doctors and presidents and stuff. Okay. Ceremony. Well, they had this podium where the guest speaker is talking, and behind the podium was this table where my dad,
02:55
Oral Roberts, and a few others were sitting. Got it. Yeah, okay. So keep in mind, everybody in the audience can see what's going on behind the podium.
03:04
So my dad and Oral Roberts are sitting there while someone speaks, and all of a sudden, Oral Roberts grabs a napkin and starts writing something.
03:13
And my dad sort of glances over and sees that he's writing something, has no idea what he's doing. Next thing you know,
03:20
Oral Roberts nudges my dad and says, read this. So my dad opens it up, a napkin, and he says,
03:27
I can't read that. Mr. Roberts said it again. You know, read it again. Dad looks at it and he says, strebor laro.
03:35
I have no idea what this means. Mr. Roberts said, read it again. Okay. He said,
03:43
Brother Roberts, I don't know what this means. Strebor laro. He said, what is this?
03:49
You know what Oral Roberts said? That's Oral Roberts spelled backwards.
03:54
My dad was like, what? And he's trying to whisper this because people can see them.
04:00
He said, Brother Roberts, why are you writing your name backwards? And you know what he said?
04:06
Listen to the reason. Because I'm bored. My dad said, we bore you?
04:12
Like this is boring? He said, yes. Them is what we call bad manners, but okay.
04:22
He said, I'm bored by your small thinking and I'm bored by your small plans.
04:27
Now watch. She's now going to take this and apply it to what God thinks about your plans.
04:33
Well, here's my question. Is God sitting up in heaven, writing his name backwards because he is bored like a dog by your small plans?
04:47
What? This is offensive.
04:54
I mean, obviously her delivery is sugar coated, like highly, maybe saccharine coated, but this is extremely offensive.
05:04
And just think of the damage this does to people. God's up there and he's offended because I have small plans.
05:10
Oh no. You know, all I ever wanted to be was, you know, then pick your career choice, right?
05:16
And maybe God's offended at that. This is an offensive teaching.
05:22
Because he is bored like a dog by your small plans. By the way,
05:27
I'm Terri Savelle Foy, your cheerleader of dreams. And I want to share something with you that I heard in prayer for this year.
05:34
Now she's claiming direct revelation from God. So let me pull this back up.
05:41
Okay. So direct revelation, it's going to fall under the testing clauses of the
05:47
New Testament. So we know that when somebody speaks prophetically, it has to be weighed.
05:53
But in 1 Corinthians 14, it doesn't tell us what that weight is, how you weigh it. You know, what do you weigh it against?
06:00
1 Thessalonians 5 says, don't despise prophecies, but test everything, hold fast to what is good and abstain from every form of evil, right?
06:10
And breaking of the commandment, you shall not take the name of the Lord your
06:15
God in vain. That's evil. That's a sin. Okay. But it's 1 John 4 that gives us the clear test as to what we're supposed to be doing.
06:25
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
06:32
So we have to determine using a biblical standard whether or not this voice that Terri Savelle Foy claims that she heard, if that was the actual voice of God or the voice of her own sinful nature or the voice of the devil.
06:50
Those are pretty much your options at this point. So you'll note 1 John 4 gives us the clearest, and if it's not from God, you be a false prophet.
06:58
That's how this works. So let's come back to Terri Savelle Foy here. And it's not just for me.
07:04
It's for you. But first, before I get into this. Okay. So she's going to tell people to subscribe to her channel.
07:11
Here we go. And join my dream squad. Yeah. Okay. And I want to say, thank you so much for doing that.
07:16
So back to our message, I heard this in prayer in January of this year.
07:22
All right. Direct voice of God. I was just listening for the Lord, walking my dog. And I just heard the
07:27
Lord say, ask me for something big. Then he said, ask me for something big and believe it's done.
07:35
And this is the word that God has for me for this year. See, already we've got a problem.
07:44
We got a big, big problem. This basically is the word of faith heresy, which is all about prosperity, health and wealth and all this kind of stuff.
07:54
This is an issue. He said, that's your word for 2021. Then he said to me, if it's in your heart, it's there for a reason.
08:03
God said that to you. All right. Now remember what our test is. Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.
08:12
So according to Terry Savelle Foy, let me back this up. Listen again. Something big and believe it's done.
08:19
He said, that's your word for 2021. Then he said to me, if it's in your heart, it's there for a reason.
08:27
If it's in your heart, it's there for a reason. Yeah, this is really a mess.
08:34
So let's take a look at the teachings of Jesus. Matthew chapter 15, Jesus called the people to himself and he said to them, hear and understand it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth that this is what defiles a person.
08:51
So his disciples came to him and said, do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying, he answered every plant my heavenly father has not planted will be rooted up.
09:02
Let them alone. They're blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both of them will fall into a pit.
09:08
So Peter said to him, can you explain to us the parable? And he said, are you still without understanding?
09:14
Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and then is expelled, but what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart and this is what defiles a person.
09:26
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.
09:35
These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hand does not defile a person. So you'll note, out of the heart is what comes, well, it comes all of our evil and stuff, right?
09:47
So already we've got a real red flag, a bonafide, no, that's not the voice of God telling you that if it's on your heart, it's there for a reason, unless the reason is well, potentially because you're a sinner and this is a sinful passion that's being referred to here.
10:07
So let me back this up. Already this direct revelation is contradicting the word of God. Something big and believe it's done.
10:15
He said, that's your word for 2021. Then he said to me, if it's in your heart, it's there for a reason.
10:23
And then he said it again, ask big and believe it's done. That's your word for 2021.
10:29
Yeah. This is the word of faith here. I see. Well, I want you to agree. So this is, God, isn't the source of this revelation.
10:35
Hold of this. In fact, do you believe that this is the number one success book ever written in history?
10:43
No, the Bible is not a success book. It is the revelation of where we came from, what went wrong with our sin and rebellion against God and what
10:53
God has done, the great lengths he has gone to, to save his lost creation and to redeem those whom he loves.
11:03
So no, it's not a success book at all. It's a Bible, by the way. Do you believe everything you need to live the life of your dreams is found in this book?
11:14
No, the Bible is not a book about living the life of my dreams. Do you think the apostle Paul lived the life of his dreams?
11:21
Let's take a look here at 2 Corinthians 11. The apostle
11:26
Paul describing what he went through doesn't sound like the life of his dream. This was his rebuke of the so -called super apostles.
11:36
So he's intentionally speaking like a fool, right? He says, what everyone else dares to boast of,
11:42
I'm speaking as a fool, I dare to boast of that as well. So 2 Corinthians 11, 22, we're talking about the super apostles.
11:50
Are they Hebrews? Well, so am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the offspring of Abraham?
11:55
So am I. Are they servants of Christ? And now Paul's, again, he's speaking like a lunatic on purpose.
12:02
He says, I'm a better one and I'm talking like a madman. And then watch the list, with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings and often near death.
12:14
Five times I received at the hands of the Jews, the 40 lashes, lest one. Three times
12:20
I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. I was a night and a day adrift at sea and on frequent journeys in danger from rivers, rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers in toil and hardship through many a sleepless night in hunger and in thirst, often without food and in cold and exposure.
12:49
It doesn't sound like he was living the life of his dreams. And you'll note the apostle Paul was martyred for his confession of faith in Christ.
12:59
Yeah, that Roman soldier took his head off his shoulder with a sword. That's how he died.
13:04
And then you think of Peter, man, this guy was thrown in prison. He was beaten and flogged himself for confessing and preaching
13:11
Christ. And then he was later in life, crucified upside down, took him three days to die.
13:16
Yeah, the apostles of Jesus, they weren't all, they didn't teach, nor did they experience the life of their dreams here on earth.
13:26
Big problem here. This woman's teaching greed. I do. And you probably do too.
13:32
Now let me, let me back this up so you can hear her say it again. It's a Bible by the way. Do you believe everything you need to live the life of your dreams is found in this book?
13:42
No, that's not what the purpose of this book is. It's to bring me to repentance of my own sin and faith in Christ for the forgiveness of my sins and eternal life.
13:53
I do. And you probably do too. Well, listen to what the author said. In Matthew 7, 7, it says, ask and it will be given to you.
14:02
Seek and you will find. Knock and it'll be open to you. All right. Three rules for sound biblical exegesis is
14:09
Matthew 7, verse out of context, teaching us that we can just ask for anything, you know, kind of like how that old song went in the seventies.
14:17
Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz? Well, let's test it.
14:23
Shall we? Let's head over to Matthew chapter six. And this is where the context begins.
14:31
No one can serve two masters. Jesus is preaching in his sermon on the mount for either they, they will hate the one or love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
14:42
You cannot serve God and money. So therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink or about your body.
14:51
What you will put on is not life more than food and the body more than clothing. Look at the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns.
14:59
And yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to a span of life?
15:09
Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They neither toil or spin.
15:14
Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all of his glory was not arrayed like one of these. So what's the issue that Jesus is getting at?
15:21
Lack of faith. That's the point. Lack of faith and trust that God will meet your needs, not make you rich, meet your needs.
15:31
But if God so clothed the grass of the field, which is today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you?
15:38
Oh, you of little faith. Therefore do not be anxious saying, what will we eat?
15:44
What will we drink? What shall we wear? The Gentiles, they seek after these things. And your heavenly father knows that you need them all, but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
15:56
All these things will be added to you. Seek first his kingdom, his righteousness.
16:03
By the way, that's the righteousness of God that's given by grace through faith in Christ. Seek first the kingdom of God, his righteousness, all these things will be added to you.
16:12
Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is his own trouble.
16:22
Ask and it will be given to you. So, you know, this is continuing in this context, Matthew 7, verse 7 through 11.
16:29
Ask, it will be given to you. Seek, you will find. Knock, it will be opened to you. Everyone who asks receives, the one who seeks finds, and the one who knocks, it will be opened.
16:39
Or which one of you, if his son asked for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asked for a fish, will give him a serpent?
16:46
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father, who is in heaven, give good things to those who ask him?
16:58
Right? And no, it's good things, good things. And by the way, you know, let me see if I can find this real quick.
17:07
There's a text in the book of Proverbs and I'm going to have to go this direction.
17:12
Hang on a second here. Book of Proverbs. And I think it's Proverbs 30.
17:18
Let me find it real quick. Proverbs chapter 30. And let's see here.
17:28
Here it is. Proverbs 30, verse 7 and 8 and 9.
17:35
Two things I ask of you, deny them not to me before I die. Remove far from me falsehood and lying.
17:42
Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you.
17:52
And say, who is Yahweh? Or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my
17:58
God. So, you'll note the Bible teaches us not to ask for things big, but to ask for what?
18:08
Well, what does Jesus teach us to pray? No, that pray for, you know, give me what is needful for me.
18:14
You know, the food that is needful for me, neither poverty, nor wealth, you know, extravagant wealth.
18:21
And this comports with what Jesus taught us to pray, by the way. Jesus says in Matthew 6, also in the
18:26
Sermon on the Mount, when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do. They think that they'll be heard for their many words.
18:33
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. So, pray like this, our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
18:40
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
18:52
You'll note that Christ teaches us to pray the same way the person who wrote the
18:58
Proverbs in chapter 30 taught us to pray, for daily bread.
19:04
Forgive us our debts as we have forgiven our debtors. Lead us not into temptation. Deliver us from evil. So, the
19:10
Christian is admonished by clear passages of Scripture, not really to ask for big things.
19:17
In fact, we are taught daily to pray for what? Daily bread.
19:24
You think God is bored with your small prayers and, you know, and asking him for such small things like daily bread?
19:32
No, Jesus taught us to pray this way. And it's confirmed also in Proverbs chapter 30.
19:39
So, we got some big problems here because she's just twisted Matthew 7 verse 7 to make it sound like, oh,
19:45
God wants you to ask for something big, man, something huge, something ginormous. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and the one who knocks, it'll be open.
19:55
Then it goes on to say, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him?
20:02
Good things. And Proverbs teaches us that receiving from God extreme wealth, that might tempt us.
20:13
So, here's my question. Could we seriously be missing out because we aren't asking
20:18
God? You might be missing out even if you're asking
20:25
God because God's saying no. In fact, I put together this free download of 10 scriptures that I have been.
20:34
10 out of context sentences and half sentences from scripture.
20:41
That's going to be great. Declaring every single week this year. And I want you to have these. Declaring every week this year.
20:48
Read them. Once you read them and you get them ingrained in you, trust me, when you read these 10 scriptures, you're going to be like, what?
20:56
Could it really be that simple? 10 out of context scriptures do not a whole truth make.
21:03
And it's going to help you see God's word on asking in a new light. So, just click the link in the description to get your free download today.
21:11
Now, Steve Harvey, he said that his mom ingrained this scripture in him.
21:17
You have not because you ask not. Yeah, there's more to it than that. It's in the book of James chapter four.
21:24
Listen to what James says in context. What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you?
21:31
Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and you do not have.
21:37
So, you murder. You covet and you cannot obtain. So, you fight and you quarrel.
21:43
You do not have because you do not ask. And it goes on.
21:50
And you ask and you do not receive because you ask wrongly to spend it on your passions.
21:57
You adulterous people, do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
22:11
So, yeah, you have not because you ask not, but put it back into context. And there's a very, very strong warning and rebuke regarding asking
22:22
God for things based upon your sinful passions. And yeah, you get the idea.
22:30
You have not because you ask not. He said, do you have any idea how powerful those seven words are?
22:36
And then out of context, he said this. That's not just in rich people's Bibles. It's in your
22:41
Bible. I love that. But he said, most people don't have the life of their dreams because they're not asking
22:48
God for the life of their dreams. I'm going to experience spontaneous human combustion here.
22:58
So, yeah. Do you really think that James 4, which is warning us about our sinful passions and then says to us, you ask and you do not receive because you ask wrongly to spend it on your passions, that somehow the thing that God wants you to ask him for is the life of your dreams.
23:21
Jesus promises those who believe in him and obey his commandments will be persecuted.
23:28
That's an actual promise. So, yeah, I think you get the idea. Terry Savelle Foy, she's a purveyor of the word of faith heresy.
23:37
And, you know, the prosperity heresy. And she didn't hear from God. We tested it according to scripture.
23:44
And the source of that voice that talked to her while she was walking her dog, that wasn't
23:50
God because that spirit, the things that it spoke to her, the word of God, the written word of God flat out contradicts her.
23:59
I think you get the point. So, if you found this helpful, all the information on how you can share the video is down below in the description.
24:07
And until next time, may God richly bless you in the grace and mercy won by Jesus Christ and his vicarious death on the cross for all of your sins.
