You may have heard that human and chimp DNA are 98 similar. Well, that's not quite accurate. First, the chimp genome is about 4 larger than the human. Second, they only compared similar sections from each genome when they came up with a 98 similarity figure, also excluding 25 of the human DNA and 18 of the chimp DNA.

How the 98 Percent Figure Was Calculated

Well, how similar were the two genomes when they were compared side by side?

Between 66 and 84 at most.

Evolutionary Implications of the Similarity Estimate

I know evolutionists needed that 98 to be able to support the idea that humans branched off about 6 million years ago. So, if it's only actually 84%, wouldn't that be too many genetic changes for the evolutionary timeline?
