Hey guys, Colin here, and welcome back to Fight for Truth. In this video, we're going to talk about Elon Musk and what he really thinks about Christians and the modern church.
00:16
Now unless you've been living under a rock, you know who Elon Musk is. He's known for Tesla, SpaceX, and most recently for buying
00:24
Twitter and renaming it X. Well, recently, someone on his platform made a post about the
00:29
Olympics opening ceremony Last Supper controversy. Yes, that's a mouthful. Basically, many
00:35
Christians who watched the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics believed that the event was using drag queens to imitate the painting
00:42
The Last Supper. Since then, the organizer of the event has said that the goal was actually to imitate a different painting, one of the
00:50
Olympian gods. And we actually made a whole video on that topic, link in description. The main point of the video is that it doesn't matter what they were trying to do on paper.
00:59
Given that the event celebrated drag queens and all sorts of debauchery, the whole thing was a mockery of God and an affront to Christian values, regardless of what they meant to do.
01:10
But given the fact that public opinion seems to be that The Last Supper painting was being mocked and was being parodied here, let's approach it from that angle.
01:20
Someone posted a picture of this on X and simply asked the question, why? One X user responded by saying, quote,
01:31
This is 100 % true, by the way. When Islam is mocked, the Muslims actually do something about it, usually something violent yet perfectly in keeping with the mostly peaceful ideals of Islam.
01:44
On the other hand, when Christians are mocked, the modern evangelical church will get people like Russell Moore and David French in the same room so they can be on a panel.
01:52
And then they can have a serious conversation about how Christians can best comply with the culture's demands.
01:58
And, of course, all in the name of loving your neighbor. And everyone can see this, by the way. You don't have to be a theologian.
02:04
Even Elon Musk has noticed. He responded to these X posts by saying, quote, And given that this tweet has been viewed over 3 million times,
02:15
I think it would be very helpful for us as Christians to talk about it and what it means. Why is it that even unbelievers are starting to notice the glaring problems with the modern evangelical church?
02:26
And what are these problems? Well, let's take a look at some of the responses to Elon Musk. Aaron Edwards, a contributor to Clear Truth Media, responded, saying this, quote,
02:57
This quote captures a lot of what is wrong with the modern evangelical church. But with that said, there are certainly a few pastors who are willing to face political scorn.
03:06
Men like John MacArthur or Doug Wilson, for example. But there are probably far more pastors who find themselves doing nothing about it, as that tweet implied.
03:15
I mean, look at the most popular evangelical preachers today. People like Stephen Furtick, Joel Osteen, Mike Todd, Andy Stanley, and the whole seeker -sensitive church crowd.
03:24
They have some of the biggest churches in the United States, yet how often do you see them take a real courageous stand against the culture's favorite sins?
03:33
That is, LGBT, the pro -choice movement, radical feminism, etc. Very rarely, if ever, will you see them meaningfully confront these topics with any kind of courage.
03:43
And in the worst cases, they will actually side with the world on these things, rather than with the church or the
03:49
Bible. Several ex -users have echoed this sentiment in response to Elon, that Christians need to recover their strength, courage, and their will to fight against the darkness.
03:59
Chase Davis, pastor and host of the Foolproof Theology podcast, one of my favorites recently, said this, quote,
04:06
It's not meant to be toothless, and it won't be for much longer. Eric Kahn, pastor and co -host of the
04:12
King's Hall podcast, another one of my favorites, said this, quote, We must retrieve the muscular and masculine
04:18
Christianity that built the West. Ben Zeisloft, editor over at the Sentinel, said this,
04:24
Our Lord is mighty, even if His followers in this particular age are men without chests.
04:30
I agree with the sentiment of these comments wholeheartedly, and I'm happy that someone is finally saying them out loud.
04:35
And I'm also happy to see that many of these people are good, young, reformed Christian men who are working hard to spread the truth.
04:43
Just to be clear, it is absolutely the case that we have seen Christianity in the Western world become weak -willed, effeminate, and unwilling to stand up for the truth of God's word.
04:53
But at the same time, there are many churches, and especially many young men, who are waking up and realizing that there has to be more to Christianity than this.
05:02
I mean, look at our church's history. We started out with 12 disciples whose leader was brutally killed by the world's greatest empire.
05:09
Then that leader, Jesus, rose from the dead and had the audacity to say that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to him by his father, and that his disciples must now go spread the word of his triumphant gospel to win the nations to him.
05:24
Matthew 28 To anyone in the world with an ounce of intelligence or common sense, this would have been the most absurd, laughable, ridiculous statement of all time.
05:34
There was no chance in the world that these men could possibly have accomplished this task. But guess what?
05:40
They did. Through their courage, and their determination, and the power of God's Spirit working through them, they spread the gospel throughout the known world in their time.
05:49
In a very short period, by the way. And today, there are millions upon millions of Christians from almost every nation on earth, and yet somehow,
05:58
Christians in modern -day America. The freest, safest country for Christians that has ever existed.
06:04
We've gotten the idea that we cannot affect any kind of change on the culture anymore. That we can't do anything positive that would move the world in the right direction.
06:13
This idea is absolutely false, and we need to do away with it. But on the other hand, there are some people responding to Elon's message with the opposite perspective of what
06:22
I've just described. People who think that it's not the Christians' place to fight against the political evil that we see in the world today.
06:30
One guy said this, quote, Here we go. I hope Christians see what's really happening here.
06:35
Satan is using those without the Holy Spirit as pawns to push Christians further into seeking worldly solutions for spiritual problems.
06:44
This is a very important comment. Many people seem to struggle with the tug -of -war between physical solutions and so -called spiritual solutions.
06:53
And I do believe that there's a difference between the two. But that difference is often exaggerated in a very unhelpful way.
07:00
For example, you have people who say that Drag Queen's story hour for children should not be illegal.
07:06
Instead, we should just preach the gospel to these people and let them exercise their so -called freedom. Anything other than this would be trying to force people to be
07:14
Christians against their will, and using physical coercion instead of spiritual means like preaching or prayer.
07:20
That's how the argument goes. But this argument simply doesn't work for a few important reasons. Number one, there are many things that the culture likes to do that ought to be illegal, regardless of whether they are
07:31
Christians or not. For example, stealing and killing should obviously be illegal for all people, not just Christians.
07:38
And by the same standard, having a Drag Queen, a grown man dressed in women's clothing, dancing usually provocatively and bizarrely in front of a bunch of little children, should also be illegal.
07:49
Because of course it should be. Because these children should be protected by our laws. Number two, if Christians were to preach the gospel and that gospel were to cause a revival in America, like the
07:59
Great Awakening, for example, would this spiritual revival not have physical consequences? Matthew 3 .8
08:06
talks about, quote, bearing fruit in keeping with repentance. So if we repented en masse, which has happened before and could happen again, wouldn't we repent of things like the
08:16
LGBT movement, the pro -choice movement, radical feminism, and the general idolatry of our society?
08:22
Of course we would. So why do we believe that it could never happen? Number three, the same
08:27
Bible that talks about the importance of the gospel also talks about the importance of justice.
08:33
This includes the kind of justice that the government is supposed to enforce physically, not spiritually.
08:39
Romans 13 .4 says that the government ought to bear the sword against the evildoer, exercising their physical dominion as a servant of God.
08:48
So let me put this simply. Yes, the gospel is our only hope for society, and for any society for that matter, to repent and believe and experience true change at the heart level,
08:58
Romans 1 .16. At the same time, the same Bible that talks about the gospel also has a lot to say about physical things like government, laws, and culture.
09:08
And of course, these physical things should always be under subjection to God and his word. So the idea that Christians should only be concerned with the spiritual and that any concern for the physical is worldly and sinful is not a good one.
09:21
You see, the truth is, Elon Musk is right on this one. That Western Christianity has become very toothless, but that's not a reason for us to despair.
09:29
It's a reason for us to roll up our sleeves and get to work for the glory of God. Please pray for this channel and for anyone mentioned in the video.
