Southern Baptist Convention. The Southern Baptist Convention is the the largest Christian denomination the largest non

Roman Catholic denomination in the United States the largest Protestant denomination in the United States so if it happens in the

The largest Protestant denomination in the country that has a ripple effect and it is having a ripple effect

Interestingly, although the SBC passed resolution 9 on critical race theory recently

Presidents of the SBC seminaries issued a joint statement against critical race theory last year

The heads of the six families the presidents of the six Southern Baptist seminaries

Released a statement coming out against critical race theory, which is kind of the opposite of Resolution that was in favor of critical race theory and intersectionality.

So so what's going on? Indeed what is going on here?

This all sounds pretty sketchy Well, let's walk through this story one step at a time

Let's start at the very beginning There's a pastor named Stephen Feinstein in California he's concerned about the unbiblical nature of critical race theory and decides to write an

SBC resolution against critical race theory and Intersectionality so a pastor in California.

His name is Stephen Feinstein Pastor of Sovereign Way Christian Church in Hesperia, California He's also a chaplain in the

US Army He sees this happening and decides that something needs to be done within the

SBC on this issue So he writes a resolution against critical race theory and Intersectionality very important that you get this this pastor in California who's in agreement with the

Dallas statement on social justice and the gospel writes a resolution against opposing critical race theory and intersectionality completely straightforward so far pastor writes resolution against critical race theory and Intersectionality, but what happens next is pretty incredible The next step is for Feinstein's resolution to go to the resolutions committee now when a resolution is

Submitted it comes before the resolutions committee and the resolutions committee can do a number of things

The resolutions committee decided not only to change the resolution But to actually change it to be the complete opposite of what it originally was

But it's opposite day and they changed the resolution. So Feinstein's resolution. That was a resolution

Sun Clearly some sketchy stuff happening here. How did this happen? Well, let's take a look at the chairman of the resolutions committee, dr.

Curtis Woods So a couple other things you need to know the chairman of the resolutions committee

So dr. Curtis Woods professor at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a proponent of critical race theory

He was teaching critical race theory at Southern Seminary. Another member of that committee was

Walter Strickland. Dr. Walter Strickland professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Was also teaching critical race theory and black liberation theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Here are some things Woods and Strickland have said oftentimes What happens is is that people get wind of Cone?

Ah now we understand how Feinstein's original resolution against CRT Ended up being the completely opposite of what

Feinstein intended It was hijacked by proponents of CRT within the

Suddenly they turn it into a resolution in favor of critical race theory But the sketchiness doesn't end there right before the vote for resolution 9

There was an attempt by JD Greer then president of the SPC to bundle it with a bunch of other

Resolutions a couple other things that you need to know number one You need to know that even before it was voted on there was an attempt president of the

SPC JD Greer Last minute effort tried to bundle resolution 9 with the last five

Resolutions to be voted on that day to get them all voted on as a package resolution 8 is adopted

Mr. Chairman, I've received counsel from my parliamentarian about the time we have 41 seconds left and we're requesting that Resolutions 9 through 13 would be taken as a block

Greer and the resolutions committee attempt to do this? Simple to try to avoid debate on this resolution

I want to add strength to this resolution make it clearer and more explicitly Theological by offering what

I hope will be taken as a friendly amendment So after the first whereas I would like to offer whereas critical race theory and Intersectionality are godless

Ideologies that are indebted to radical feminism and post -modernism and neo

Marxism and then add to resolves after the first resolved resolved that we remind

Southern Baptists that critical race theory and Intersectionality emerged from a secular worldview and are rooted in ideologies that are incompatible with Christianity and be it further resolved that we repudiate all forms of identity politics and any ideology that establishes human identity in Anything other than the divine creation in the image of God and for all redeemed

Humanity our common identity together eternally united to Christ.

Is there a second to that amendment? All right, you may speak to it I just think it's important that we understand the origins of these two

Ideologies they do come from godless Marxism and we also ought to recognize the way that they are

Commonly used today not by any members of our committee that has set forth this very carefully worded resolution

But we need to be aware of how these Ideologies are being used in our culture and there are attempts to insert these ideologies in the false way of seeing the world into evangelical life and churches

And so if we make it clear about their origins and Reemphasize that we have our identity in Christ and Christ alone.

I just think it strengthens this resolution I hope it will be received as a friendly amendment.

SBC? side with the proponents of CRT Rather than the dissenters the answer they lacked full understanding of the issue.

Unless that's what they believe most of the messengers at that meeting didn't know much if anything about Critical race theory and intersectionality but what they did know was a black professor from one of our

Southern Baptist seminaries stood at the podium and said that this was just an analytical tool didn't undermine the sufficiency of scripture or the proclamation of the gospel and so they voted in favor the

Southern Baptist Convention has been has been beaten about the head and shoulders for decades over issues of race and racism

Southern Baptist Convention has Acknowledged publicly and repented publicly on multiple occasions for their history and participation and slavery and racism apologies that had been offered and Accepted numerous times and yet there is still it's cloud over the

SBC and anytime Something happens that could even almost slightly maybe kind of be considered racially insensitive

Like voting down a resolution on critical race theory while a black professor from one of your seminaries is standing there saying
