00:16
Well, hello and welcome to The Zone. I'm your host, Big Wave Dave. Today we are going to talk about the
00:22
Global Flood. Was it a real event or just a fairy tale? Sadly, some people think that the
00:28
Flood never happened. So, we are going to cover all of these topics today.
00:34
Are you ready? Let's start with the Ark. Now, when people hear the term
00:39
Noah's Ark, they often think of little cartoon Arks like this one. Now, it's cute, but the problem is it's nothing like the real
00:47
Ark. Can you see any problems? Well, here's what I came up with. First of all, this
00:53
Ark is way too small. There's no way Noah could fit all the animals on this
00:58
Ark. And secondly, what's up with the windows? The first time the water rises and the waves, it's going to become a submarine, and that's not what we want.
01:08
And why is everybody smiling? The Flood was a sad event. And then what about these giraffes?
01:16
Why are they floating in mid -air like that? But the biggest problem with this picture is that this
01:21
Ark is the wrong shape. This is what's going to happen when the first big wave comes.
01:27
Yikes! The real Ark was huge. It was over 510 feet long.
01:35
Now, that's as long as one and a half football fields. It was 84 feet wide and as tall as a four -story building, so it would have plenty of room for the animals and all the food they needed to bring.
01:47
Speaking of animals, some people say that there's no way that Noah could have put all those animals on the
01:54
Ark. Is that true? Well, let's take a closer look. So, let's start with this.
02:00
What animals did Noah need to bring? Here's what God said. God said that he would send two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal that moves along the ground, to him to be saved.
02:12
What's a kind? A kind is a group of animals that are closely related.
02:18
There's the dog kind, and the cat kind, and the bear kind, and so on. Let's look at a few examples. What do dogs produce?
02:25
Dogs. What do cows produce? Cows. Okay, I heard some of you say milk, and that's true, but that's not what we're after.
02:33
What do horses produce? Horses. What do chimpanzees produce? Chimpanzees.
02:40
This isn't hard, is it? What do cats produce? Trouble. Lots of trouble.
02:46
Okay, so here's a question. Were dinosaurs on the Ark? Remember what
02:52
God said, that he would send two of every kind of animal that moves along the ground to Noah to be saved.
02:59
Do dinosaurs move along the ground? Yes, they do. So, according to the Bible, dinosaurs were on the
03:06
Ark. But wait a minute, how could they fit? They were so huge. Whoa, big fella, careful.
03:14
Actually, did you know that there are only about 80 dinosaur kinds, and most of them were no bigger than a horse in full ground?
03:21
What about the really big ones like the sauropods? Well, we know from the fossil record that the big ones started out small, so God could have sent babies like this guy.
03:31
Hello, little fella. If you want to learn more about dinosaurs and how they fit into the
03:38
Bible, please check out some of our other videos. Okay, so back to the question.
03:44
How many animals did Noah need to bring? Well, it's hard to be sure, but based upon the latest estimates, it's about 7 ,000 animals.
03:54
You may go, whoa, that's a lot of animals. But think about this. Have you ever seen a train?
04:01
They can carry a lot of cargo. Well, based upon the size of the Ark, it could carry the same as a train with 522 boxcars.
04:10
There was plenty of room for the animals and the food on board the Ark. So, we have talked about the
04:16
Ark, and we've talked about the animals. Let's talk about the flood. Now, when I was a child,
04:22
I remember singing songs about the flood. It rained for 40 days and all that stuff, and that's fun.
04:28
But here's the problem. The real flood was nothing like that.
04:33
It was much more than just a rainstorm. It was a catastrophic event for the whole planet, and it lasted for 370 days.
04:42
So, some people have put together a video of what it might have been like. Check this out. The real flood included earthquakes and volcanic eruptions and massive tsunamis all over the world.
06:46
Okay, so is there any evidence for all of this? Yes, there is. Let's look at a few examples.
06:52
So, the first line of evidence is the fossil record. Now, what is that? We have billions of dead things buried in rock layers laid down by water all over the world.
07:02
So, why do I think that the fossils were made by the flood? Well, here's a few reasons.
07:08
First of all, when you find most fossils, they are in these massive bone yards like this one here.
07:13
And in some of these graveyards, they've got sea creatures and land creatures all mixed in together.
07:19
What could do that? Well, a flood. Some fossils, like this fish here, show that they were buried very rapidly.
07:27
This poor guy was buried in mud when he was eating his lunch. Ouch. Finally, when scientists do find complete skeletons, they often show signs of violent death.
07:39
This poor little guy drowned. Aww. And did you know that scientists have found fossils of marine creatures on top of the highest mountains in the world?
07:49
Even Mount Everest. When you think about it, all of these different fossils point to a global flood.
07:56
All right, evidence number two, geologic layers of the earth. Now, have you ever been to the
08:02
Grand Canyon? If not, I hope you do someday. It is really cool. Anyway, if you haven't, hopefully you've seen pictures, but you'll see these layers in the earth.
08:11
Now, some people will say that these layers took millions of years to form, but many creation scientists say that they were formed during the flood.
08:20
Why? Well, here's a clue. When you go around the world, you will see these layers of rock, and they're bent.
08:28
And it's not just one or two, they're everywhere. And these are massive layers. Some of these are hundreds of feet thick, and they're bent like they were really soft.
08:38
Well, rock doesn't bend. So the only way that this could happen is that the layers were laid down during the flood, and when they were still soft, they were bent by the movements of the earth.
08:49
And finally, there's the flood legends. Did you know that there are over 270 flood legends from all over the world?
08:58
And a lot of them have similarities to the story in the Bible. So this one's in Hawaii, and it talks about after the death of the first man, the world became a wicked, terrible place to live.
09:11
And there was only one good man left, and his name was, check this out, Nuhu. Sounds a lot like Noah to me.
09:18
At any rate, so he made a great canoe with a house on it and filled it with animals. And then the waters came up all over the earth and killed all the people.
09:26
Only Nuhu and his family were saved. Wow, that sounds a lot like the
09:31
Bible to me. And in Chinese, they have a legend of the father of their civilization.
09:37
History records that he and his wife, three sons, and three daughters escaped a great flood, and that they were the only ones that survived.
09:47
Hmm. Now, according to the Bible, there were eight people on board,
09:52
Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives. Same as the story.
09:58
In fact, this story is so embedded in Chinese culture that their word for large ship consists of the symbols for eight person and boat.
10:08
That is amazing. We have covered a lot during this lesson.
10:13
Let's finish up by looking at what we can learn from the flood. First of all, the global flood was real, not a fairy tale, and the evidence is all around us.
10:25
Secondly, and this is really important, God hates sin, and he'll judge it. So we really need to do our best to follow what
10:33
God tells us to do. Third, it takes courage to follow God. Now, by some estimates, it took
10:39
Noah and his family 50 to 75 years to build that ark. Now I can imagine during that time that a lot of people made fun of Noah and his family.
10:48
So what are you doing, dude? Making this big boat in the middle of nowhere. But Noah and his family stayed faithful and did what
10:54
God said. And the result, Noah and his family were saved. And finally, God loves us and he always provides a way out.
11:03
For Noah, it was the ark. And for us, it's Jesus Christ. You see, one day
11:08
Jesus Christ is coming back and he's going to take all the people that love him to a very special place called heaven.
11:15
Now all we have to do is ask Jesus to be our savior. I hope you do that today. So if you want to learn more about the flood and the ark, you have got to go see the
11:27
Ark Encounter. So Ancestors in Genesis has built a full -sized replica of the ark. It is amazing.
11:34
Well, that's all the time we have together. I hope to see you soon here on the zone. God bless you and have a great day.
