The call is to turn from your sin and put your faith in Jesus. Aloha guys.
00:19
I'm Pastor Jeff. Nice to meet you all. Thank you guys so much for letting us serve you today.
00:26
It's always an honor and a privilege to be out here with you all and to be able to provide for your needs and to love you and to listen to you.
00:33
I'm Pastor Jeff. As I said, I'm from Apologia Church. We have a church here in Kapa 'a at the
00:40

00:53
on Sundays. Pastor Claude, he would love to take care of you. And this is Christian over here. He and his family live here.
01:00
They would be honored to be a part of your lives and to help serve you. So if you have any needs ever, if you're thirsty, if you're hungry, if you need something, please come see us at Apologia Kaua 'i.
01:12
We'd love to be able to serve you and care for your needs. So I'm Pastor Jeff. I'm from Apologia Church in Phoenix.
01:22
I used to be a drug addict. I came to Christ out of drug addiction. I was addicted to pills.
01:29
I was addicted to ecstasy, cocaine, alcohol, marijuana. God delivered me from my sin first and foremost, saved me, changed my heart and my life, and brought me out of not only my sin, but out of my addiction to drugs and alcohol.
01:47
And I want to let you know that today being here, I have no right to stand here today before you and to preach to you.
01:55
I am not a good person in myself. I'm not a strong person in myself. All that I have and all that I am is in Christ and it's a gift from God through Him.
02:06
I just wanted to share a message with you today. It's the single most important message that I can give to you.
02:11
It's more important than the meal that you got today. It's more important than the water that you received today.
02:18
This is the single most important message that you can know and that you can meditate on.
02:23
It's the most important thing for you to contemplate. And that is your relationship to the one and only true and living
02:32
God, the only God. That's what the message is about. And so I want to talk to you about the good news.
02:41
I would imagine being on an island like this that was once part of a Christian kingdom, you've heard of who
02:47
Jesus is. You've heard about the gospel and maybe you are jaded to the word itself.
02:54
You've heard about gospel and Jesus Christ and you're just indifferent towards it now. It doesn't mean very much.
03:00
You've seen the hypocrisy of those who call themselves Christians. You know the history of those who profess the name of Christ and ravaged this island, stole the island from the
03:11
Hawaiian people. You know that history and so maybe you're distrusting now of people who would come to you and talk to you about Jesus.
03:19
But I want you to know that today my coming to you is not to share
03:24
American culture with you. I'm not coming here to tell you about the amazing things of Independence Day.
03:33
I'm here to talk to you today about the living God, the true God, the maker of heaven and earth, the maker of all of this, who has given his son for people from every tribe, tongue, and nation, and language to be reconciled to God, to have peace with God, forgiveness, eternal life, and salvation.
03:53
I'm not here to share anything from American culture with you. I'm here to share and spread the kingdom of God, salvation, and forgiveness.
04:04
And so I wanted to share with you the story of one man who was hostile to the
04:09
Christian message. He was hostile to the Christian message. He thought that he was doing
04:15
God's work. As a matter of fact, he was so hostile to the message of the gospel that he killed
04:20
Christians. He was putting them in jail, destroying them. And he says in one of his letters, he says that his mission was to destroy the church.
04:29
That's what he wanted to do. So he wasn't open -minded. Maybe some of you today listening to this message are not open -minded either.
04:36
Maybe, again, you're jaded to the message of the gospel. You're indifferent. Maybe like me, you're a slave to your idols.
04:43
You're a slave to the drugs, to the heroin, to the meth, to the ice. Maybe that's where you're at today.
04:50
I just want you to pause for a moment and just reflect on the message coming from a man who was hostile to the gospel, to the message of Jesus.
05:03
He says this after seeing Christ alive from the dead and after having his life changed by Christ.
05:09
He says, Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, a slave of the Messiah Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the good news of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures.
05:23
I just want to hang on that just for a moment. Here's a man who was destroying
05:30
Christians, killing Christians, destroying the church itself. And he calls this message
05:37
God's good news. And just consider that the Bible says the heavens declare the glory of God.
05:44
All of this around us is shouting, shouting to us about the one and only true and living
05:50
God, the God who created these seas, these oceans that's pouring into here right now.
05:57
This beautiful, beautiful island, the Garden Island, and one of the most magnificent and beautiful places on earth.
06:03
That God has good news. It's good news, not terrible news, not bad news, but actually good news for the world.
06:13
And this is good news that he promised long before Jesus came. One of the things that's been so compelling to me as someone who was not raised in a
06:23
Christian home under the hearing of the gospel is the fact that God's story of salvation,
06:28
Christ, forgiveness, peace, redemption is written down in the
06:34
Old Testament long before Jesus touched the earth in his earthly ministry. What God was going to do to bring about salvation to the ends of the earth, he promised beforehand in the scriptures long before the
06:48
Christian church. One of the things that God promised in Isaiah chapter 2 is that he was going to draw the nations up to the mountain of God.
06:57
He was going to draw the nations, not just Jews, but Hawaiians, Africans, Americans, Canadians, Russians, you name it,
07:10
God was going to draw the nations up to save them. God promised in the
07:16
Old Testament about 600 years before the time of Christ, he promised that God himself was coming to save.
07:24
Now just consider it, there is only one true and living God. The Bible says, before me there was no
07:30
God formed, neither shall there be after me. I am the first and I am the last. Besides me there is no
07:35
God. He has gone alone, the Bible says, in the heavens above and on the earth below.
07:41
There is no other. The Bible teaches that there is only one true and living God. And yet, the author who wrote
07:48
Isaiah, knowing that there is only one God, reciting the
07:54
Shema every morning, Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. He says in Isaiah 9, 6 through 7, that a child is coming, a son is coming, and he will be called
08:09
Wonderful Counselor. And here's the word in Hebrew, El Gibor. It's a word that means the mighty
08:15
God, the only God, the father of eternity. And it says of the increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end.
08:27
So about 600 years before Jesus came, the Bible says that God himself, the only
08:33
God, was going to take on flesh, walk among us as a son and as a child, and he would bring peace that would increase.
08:42
It would have no end. It says in the Old Testament that God was going to bring a kingdom and that he would put all of his enemies under his feet as a footstool for his feet.
08:52
It says in Isaiah 53 that the Messiah would be pierced through for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities.
08:59
The chastisement for our well -being fell upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
09:05
It says that he would justify the many as he would bear their iniquities. Now again, I want to remind you what
09:11
Paul says here. This was promised beforehand in the Holy Scriptures. What I just quoted to you was written down about 600 years before Jesus came.
09:21
His entire life, death, resurrection, ministry, redemption, kingdom, person, character, everything is written down long before Jesus came.
09:33
Every detail necessary to know Jesus as Savior and Lord is written down in the
09:40
Holy Scriptures long before Jesus came. And Paul says that this is God's good news.
09:47
It's good news for the world. It's not just good news for Jews. It's not just good news for so -called righteous people.
09:55
It's good news for the world. It's good news for the unrighteous. Paul teaches very clearly here that the purpose of his apostleship is to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations.
10:16
Now that's what we're here to proclaim to you today. That God has given his Messiah for salvation, for forgiveness, and eternal life.
10:27
That's the purpose of Christ. That's his mission is to save that which was lost and to bring about the obedience of faith among all the nations for his namesake.
10:38
God is not calling white people only. He's not calling Jews only. He's not calling
10:44
Hawaiians only. He is calling all people from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation, every language to come to serve
10:53
Jesus, to save them, to reconcile them, and to bring them to peace with the
10:58
Father. The Bible teaches this about every one of us, that we all know the true
11:04
God. It's evident in everything around us all over the world. Even nations that have never heard the name of Moses and Jesus, they worship, they know the true
11:15
God. It's evident in all that they do, their systems of laws, their system of morality, showing the work of God in their hearts, their worship of trees, and the stone, and the stubble, and the hay, and the gold, the statue.
11:33
Paul says in this very same chapter that we all know God, and that the wrath of God is being poured out.
11:42
That we are suppressing the truth in unrighteousness, and that what we do in our sin in the fall is we switch
11:49
God for an idol. We would rather worship and serve the creature rather than the
11:55
Creator. And that is so evident in everything happening in our world today. When you see people who have turned away from God, you see that they exchange
12:03
God for the idol. Sometimes you see it in the vivid portrayal of idolatry.
12:09
You see the statues people bow down towards. You see the false religions, the perversions of who
12:15
Jesus actually is. You see it very, very clearly in the addiction, drug addiction.
12:22
If you're here today and you're struggling with drug addiction, if you're addicted to ice, and to heroin, and to alcohol, just know that there is freedom and peace available to you.
12:34
But just know that your real struggle is not a disease. It's not a disease of addiction.
12:41
Your real struggle today is with idolatry. It's worshiping and serving something else in place of God.
12:50
The heroin has supremacy in your life. The heroin gets the glory.
12:57
You sacrifice towards the heroin. The ice owns your mind and your hands.
13:05
Your entire life is bending to the will of this God. That's idolatry, friends, and that's what
13:12
God can free us from in Christ. The Bible teaches that that is our condition, that we know the true
13:18
God, but we switch Him for an idol. That's all of us, friends. I'm not good.
13:25
I'm not righteous in myself. I'm not strong enough to conquer addiction. I'm an idolater outside of Christ, just like all of us.
13:36
And the Bible says more, though, about our condition. It says this, we are not just sick.
13:42
We are not simply in a place where we are kind of rebellious, mostly good people.
13:49
The Bible says there's none righteous, no, not one. None righteous, no, not one means none, no one.
13:57
None of us have any boast before God to be able to say that we deserve His presence,
14:04
His mercy, His grace. The Bible says that all of us have gone astray, each of us to our own way.
14:12
It says that there is none who seeks for God, which explains actually a lot of what's happening here on this beach.
14:20
We can be so enslaved to our addiction, to our heroin, to our ice. We can be so hurting, kicking every night because of the lack of heroin.
14:31
We could be struggling, looking for the next hit, the next dose. We could be in so much pain physically from withdrawing from heroin.
14:41
And yet we still don't seek for God. How you doing, sir? Good. We still don't seek for God.
14:49
Even with all the pain associated with our idols, we still would rather worship and serve the creature rather than the creator.
14:57
We'd still rather pursue our sin, our unrighteousness, even with all the pain. It's madness.
15:04
I remember when I was addicted to drugs myself, when I was addicted to the pills, to the ecstasy, to the cocaine.
15:12
I remember being in so much pain. I remember my life was in shambles.
15:18
I remember I was losing so much and yet I so loved my sin and the idol that I could not get free from it.
15:27
And the Bible explains our condition. It says all of us are in that place. We're not righteous. We're not good. We don't seek for God.
15:34
It says actually there's no fear of God before our eyes. You know, it's amazing if you think about it.
15:40
We could be on this beach in this glorious place with this ocean and the skies and just all this beauty.
15:47
We can have all of this before us and still rebel against God.
15:53
The God that we know is there. The God that we know exists. The God that we cannot escape from.
15:59
It is inescapable. We can have no fear of him living in his world with him putting breath in our lungs and causing our hearts to beat, feeding our bellies with McDonald's hamburgers from people who don't even know us.
16:15
And yet we can still turn away from this God. We still reject his goodness.
16:21
We still reject his love. There is no fear of God before our eyes.
16:26
Now that's the bad news. I told you that what Paul says God has for us is good news.
16:33
And here it is. Despite the fact that God is holy and we are not.
16:39
Despite the fact that God is full of wrath and judgment over our sins.
16:46
Despite the fact that we scorn, heap scorn upon his goodness and his love.
16:52
Despite the fact that he is merciful to us every day and we continue to run from him.
16:58
God in the person of Christ. Christ, the second person of the
17:05
Trinity, the eternal Son of God, who has always existed with the
17:11
Father in perfect fellowship. He took on flesh for an undeserving and unworthy people.
17:19
He lived an obedient life. He had fear of the
17:24
Father. He was righteous and obedient. He kept the law of God perfectly in every way that we have not.
17:33
He did not go astray. He always sought the
17:38
Father. He took on flesh to live that perfect sinless life. And he died a death that all of us deserve.
17:47
I please, I want you to hear it. If you're struggling today, I need you to hear this message.
17:54
Jesus says in John 5 24, Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my voice and believes him who sent me has eternal life and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life.
18:10
Jesus promises life and life abundantly. He says in John chapter 10 that he is the good shepherd, that he lays his life down for the sheep, that the sheep hear his voice and they come to him.
18:24
Oh, I don't know if you're a sheep today, friends. I don't know if you belong to God and are a recipient of his grace.
18:31
But I hope that you have ears to hear this message. Jesus says that his sheep will hear his voice and they'll come.
18:38
And he says this beautiful thing. He says that you're in his hand and nothing can snatch you from his hand.
18:48
He says that you're in his father's hand and nothing can snatch you from his hand.
18:54
He gave his life so that we could know him. We can have peace with God.
19:02
But this is what God calls us to. You need to hear this. All of that is beautiful and powerful and expresses the love of God and the majesty of God.
19:11
But here's what you need to hear about the gospel. Maybe you've heard the good news before about what
19:17
God has done in Christ, but you haven't heard this part of the message. And that's what the
19:22
Bible says. Repentance and faith would be preached in all the nations.
19:28
The call to repent and to believe the good news. To repent means to have a change of mind, to turn around, to turn away from where you're going and to turn to God in faith.
19:42
Maybe you've heard this message of God's love and his forgiveness before.
19:48
Maybe you've heard about the glories of Jesus and you've wondered, why am I still on a beach with a needle in my arm or meth in my body?
20:00
How come I can't get free when I've heard this message? And I want to say to you, maybe you haven't heard the call of the gospel, which is to repent and to believe.
20:10
To turn away from sin and unrighteousness and to turn to God, the living
20:15
God in faith. To put your faith in Jesus Christ to receive the gift of eternal life and righteousness.
20:22
You see, that is the beauty of the gospel, the glory of the gospel. The good news is that though my sin has separated me from God, Christ brings me near to God.
20:32
Though I have no righteousness that avails before a holy God, Christ gives me his righteousness as a gift through faith.
20:42
The call of the gospel is to repent and to believe. Turn from sin to God and put your faith in Jesus and his perfect life and death and resurrection.
20:52
Receive the gift of eternal life. Be freed from your sin, your powerlessness, your helplessness, your unrighteousness.
21:00
Be forgiven. Be reconciled to God. And here is the promise of life. If you turn to Christ, you will live.
21:08
If you have faith in Christ and his work and salvation, you will stand in God's grace.
21:14
You will never fall. God says never, no, never, not even a chance will
21:20
I leave you. God will never leave you. God will never ever let you depart from his hands.
21:27
He gives you his grace and mercy in Christ and it's abundant. He's able to save you to the uttermost.
21:33
Everybody who draws near to God through Jesus, all you must do is turn to God and live.
21:40
Turn and put your faith in Christ and live. All the food that we have for you cannot satisfy you like the bread of life,
21:49
Jesus. All the water that we give to you can't satisfy you like the water of life.
21:56
Jesus gives you water and you will never thirst again. There is water, a well of life bubbling up to eternal life,
22:05
Jesus teaches us. And if you come and drink from this well, from this life, you will never thirst again.
22:13
Jesus teaches that those who believe in him, though they die, yet shall they live.
22:19
And whoever lives and believes in Jesus will never die. He asked the question when he told people that, he says, do you believe this?
22:29
And so that's my question to you today. Do you believe this? Will you come to Christ and live?
22:35
We want to serve you. We will be here for you to continue to feed you and care for your needs.
22:43
But our strongest, deepest desire and plea before God is that you would receive living water.
22:52
That you would receive the bread of life into you.
22:57
And that is that you would turn from sin to God. I promise you, your problem today on this beach is not homelessness.
23:06
Ultimately, it's not drug and alcohol addiction. It's a whole life of sin and rebellion against your creator.
23:15
And there is forgiveness available in Christ. Do you feel lost? Do you feel lost today?
23:24
Do you feel hopeless? Are you hurting? Are you confused?
23:31
Do you feel like you've been abandoned by God? I want you to know today,
23:38
God has never left. It's you and I who have turned away from God and hid our faces from God.
23:46
This message today coming to you from an unworthy servant, me, not a righteous person in myself, is an act of God's love and grace in your life.
23:58
Can you see that, friends? That this moment and this message of good news from God is
24:05
God's love in your life today. It is an act of God's own gracious will reaching out into the lives of unworthy people.
24:17
None of us deserve this message of hope and yet God gives it. I pray that you would realize that today is a day of salvation.
24:26
Today is a day to turn. You are not promised tonight. You are not promised tomorrow.
24:33
I want you to hear in this message that the call of the gospel is a message of urgency to turn to God and live.
24:41
Be reconciled to God. You are at war with God. You are an enemy in God's sight.
24:46
You are worthy of His wrath and so am I outside of the work of His Son. I pray that you hear this and hear the good news of forgiveness and peace with God.
24:58
Repent and believe the good news. Turn and put your faith in Christ and live.
25:05
Again, I'm Pastor Jeff and I'm here for you to love you and to serve you. I pray that you would come talk to us if you have questions and if you need a
25:16
Bible, if you need the words of God, we'd be happy to give you a Bible. God bless you.
25:22
Thank you for listening so much. Thank you, guys.
25:34
Hi, John. How you doing, man? Oh, praise God. I just kind of want to talk to you about something.
25:42
Sure. A while ago, my mom had cancer and neck surgery and whatnot.
25:49
And a lot of the times I was very hesitant to start reading the
25:56
Bible and to start really taking it seriously. And when we found out she had cancer, she told me she was like, just do one thing for me.
26:04
I want you to start reading the Bible. Okay. And I want you to take it seriously. Okay. So I took it seriously, 100 % all in.
26:12
I spent every morning praying. I spent and for the next 30 days, just show me something.
26:18
Show me something. Show me something. Around day 30, I started getting these deja vus very consistently.
26:31
It started off five minutes at a time, a couple of times a day. And then it led into all day, every day for months, basically.
26:40
Can you describe what it means, deja vu? Seeing the same thing repeatedly, patterns.
26:46
It's kind of like how you're watching a movie you haven't seen in a long time. And as you're watching it, you go, oh yeah, that happened.
26:52
Okay. I remember that. Okay. And what's weird about it is that it started on the 29th.
26:59
And there's a lot of things that happened in my mom's life that as far as she was at the cancer center for 29 days before she came back, she would wake up in the middle of the night at like, it would be like, say like 12, 4, 12, 29.
27:16
And it would come to her. Like she needs to write. She would like, it was almost like scripture that she would write.
27:25
And it's, there's so much more. I can't really, but there's so many things that tie into it.
27:31
And I ended up becoming very spiritual. Like I had no, I had no choice to because it was almost as if I asked to see something and these deja vu started happening consistently.
27:41
Okay. And, um, I started like really just spreading the, I talked to my friends about it, talking to my coworkers, telling them, you know, my story, everything that happened.
27:53
And there's, there's so much more. Like she, she had 29 treatments before she was cured and she came home on the 29th as well.
28:00
And she was there for 29 days. And this, the first days, all the crazy days off,
28:07
I was able, I was in a garage with a bunch of my friends hanging out. And as soon as it hit, it was midnight on the 29th.
28:14
And as soon as it hit midnight, I knew word for word, subject to subject, what everyone in that room was going to say for the next 40 minutes.
28:25
And then I went into my room and I kind of just started crying because I was amazed.
28:31
And I didn't know what it meant. And it was like one in the morning at that time. And my mom had just, just gotten done having neck surgery.
28:39
And she came into my room and she's like, I don't know why, but something tells me I need to talk to you right now.
28:46
I told her what happened. And then I started, and she asked me if I felt as if all negative, negative, negative energy inside me was leaving my body.
28:56
She asked me how I felt. And I told her that I feel, it feels weird. I feel nothing but positivity in a way.
29:03
And she looked at me and she's like, I think you're being saved. And I looked at her and I was like, if that's what this is, then that's, it's, that's fantastic basically.
29:12
And from that point on, I kind of dedicated my life, started reading the Bible even more, kind of really just going first step forward.
29:20
At one point in time, I wanted to go overseas, study the Bible, and I wanted to be a pastor. And then
29:27
I got with this girl. And it's almost as if she took me away from that.
29:34
I got so invested in a relationship that it changed me. And I fell away from God.
29:43
And it's almost, I felt this emptiness where at one point in time, no matter where I went,
29:50
I felt like almost as if Jesus was there. You know what I mean?
29:55
I could feel him. I was confident. And no matter what was going to happen, I'm good, you know? And after I was with this girl for two years, and she completely took me away from it.
30:07
She was very negative. She was... Not a Christian? Not at all.
30:13
She didn't believe at all. And I would try telling her and like, hey, I understand you don't believe, but I do, and it's important to me.
30:21
And she would basically be like, I'm not going to know some fake guy. And just all this basically.
30:27
And eventually, you know, when you hear something over and over and over again, it'll get to you.
30:33
And eventually, it became hard for me to sit and read the Bible. It became hard.
30:38
And I fell off. And it wasn't a good feeling. And I ended up doing things that I regret doing.
30:46
I noticed that I wasn't the person I was. I wasn't who I needed to be. So... Can I just speak to that for a second?
30:53
Yeah, of course. I'd love to hear what you have to say. Thank you for sharing that with me. So I would want to do two things and just talk about two things.
31:02
Number one, when you talked about your mom saying, I think you're getting saved,
31:07
I would want to explore that. And just in terms of what happened in terms of what did you read from God's word that challenged you, that drew you to Christ?
31:17
And what did that look like? But the second thing I'll just say, and I think I could wrap it up kind of simple for you. And I don't want to diminish it.
31:23
I want you to know I don't in any way want to be cavalier or to diminish the pain that you went through with the relationship.
31:29
But if I could just speak to it as a pastor, with God's word at my feet, what would God say about this?
31:35
No, I want you to be straightforward. Yeah. One of the things that God tells us in his word is that it's not one of those areas where Christians can disagree.
31:43
Like, for example, like Christians are allowed to disagree on, should you smoke a cigar or not smoke a cigar?
31:50
Well, someone's like, I think it's sinful. Some are like, well, I'm not abusing it. So it's like, well, we can disagree on that. God doesn't speak explicitly towards that.
31:57
The Bible doesn't say thou shall not smoke camels. If it did say that, people would be wondering which end you're supposed to smoke back then.
32:07
But Christians can disagree on worship music style because God may not give us objective scripture that says it's made to interpret.
32:16
He might give you principles and you can apply. But when it comes to a relationship between a believer who knows
32:23
Jesus and an intimate relationship with an unbeliever, that's one of those areas of explicit.
32:29
God tries to protect us and he tells us not to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever.
32:35
That means that in terms of having an intimate relationship with a woman who's not a believer, who doesn't know
32:41
God, God explicitly says no. And it's not because God's saying because that's going to be too fun and too amazing of an experience.
32:50
It's it's exactly because of what happened to you, because it'll destroy you. I'll give you more.
32:56
The proverb says, can can a man take fire into his chest and not be burned by it?
33:02
Can you embrace a bunch of coals in your chest and not be burned when you play in an area where you have a person who has no commitments to the
33:12
Lordship of Christ? They have no pursuit of him and love for him and longing for him. And you try to you try to hit yourself up with them and get connected with them.
33:20
You're just going to destroy yourself. And I want to just tell you, I understand the struggle. I wasn't in a
33:26
Christian home. And when I first heard the gospel message, I had struggles with that as well. You know, can
33:31
I I really attracted to this unbelieving girl. Can I have a relationship with her?
33:36
And I can tell you that that from biblical truth and practical experience, it will destroy you.
33:43
So I want to say to you, hopefully this is hopeful for you. You're not unique in that.
33:49
This really wrecked you. It's it's exactly because God says, don't do that.
33:55
Don't go that way. I want to protect you and preserve you. But here's the most important thing I have to say to you. OK, the the most important thing, it's it's what
34:03
I was saying here. And you may have heard it before, but I just want you to hear it maybe in a fresh new way. What happened with your mom was tragic, but also beautiful.
34:12
Yeah, right. I mean, tragic, suffering, pain, but beautiful because of what God did in healing.
34:19
But I want to say that that's brought you to this place with all these trials and tribulations where now you're standing here in Kauai on this odd little sidewalk with a guy with a guy who doesn't live here.
34:31
Are you from here? No. Are you visiting? Yeah. OK, so watch this. Here's a pastor from Phoenix who happened to pick this spot to set up at.
34:41
You're on vacation. You just happen to walk past here in Kauai to stand next to a man who's telling you he cares for you.
34:47
He loves you. And I just want you to hear this message. I don't know the version of the gospel that you heard, but there's a version that's popular today in America that goes something like this.
34:58
Jesus did all this stuff, lived and died and rose again. If you want to go to heaven one day, pray this prayer and you'll be saved.
35:07
Right? That's the popular message. And that is, I promise you this, you will never find that in the
35:12
Bible. I'm not suggesting to you that it's anything other than faith in Christ that saves us.
35:18
It is only faith. No, I 100 % agree. But the message of Christ and the apostles for salvation was turn from your sin to God and put your faith in Christ for salvation and for forgiveness.
35:31
Jesus said things like this to people who are following him. He turned around and he said to them, if anyone comes to me and does not hate father, mother, sister, brother, wife, even your own life, you're not worthy to be my disciple.
35:42
He says, if you don't come to me and take up your cross to come and die, then you're not worthy to be my disciple.
35:48
So it's far different from saying things like, do you want to go to heaven? Pray these magic words.
35:55
Jesus would say, come to me to live, to be forgiven. It's all
36:01
I want to ask you is this, have you have you turned from sin?
36:08
Not any one particular sin, but have you turned from sin to Christ to put your faith in him to be forgiven and to be reconciled to God now?
36:22
When I think that before I got into that relationship,
36:28
I was definitely on the right path. Yeah, I was. Yeah, I did. I could say that I did.
36:34
I could say that I consciously lived my life. I was just a way better person.
36:41
I was not better, but just different. Okay, let me let me do it. I think I'm feeling where you're at. I think I think I understand what you're saying.
36:48
Let me put it this way. The apostles and Jesus would come into people's lives and they would call them to turn from sin to put their faith, be reconciled to God now.
37:00
So there's a moment in their life that they could that they could point to to say, that is where I turned from sin to put my faith in Christ to be saved, to be forgiven.
37:10
It's not like a pattern of, well, I've tried to work through this cycle and do all these things to get to a place where I feel like I'm right with God.
37:17
But it was really a call. Come and die or don't come. It wasn't like fix yourself up, climb this ladder, and then maybe you get to God.
37:26
It was you come to Christ from where you're at right now and you put your faith in Jesus to be saved, to be reconciled to God, to be given the gift of eternal life.
37:35
It doesn't sound like that ever happened with you. It seemed like you felt like you were on a course. I think everything that happened to me, maybe leading up to this point, me talking to you, because it's weird.
37:44
I was walking by and I heard you and I knew that I stopped. Praise God, man.
37:50
And I knew that I needed to talk to you. Well, I want you to know this, that you can you can know God now. You can be forgiven and be given eternal life.
37:57
Your sins washed away from from past, present and future. You can be reconciled to God and be given his righteousness as a gift.
38:06
You can know God now. The call is to turn from your sin and put your faith in Jesus. Do you want to know
38:12
Christ? Do you want to be saved? OK, well, there's no magic prayer. OK, but it's repentance and faith.
38:21
If you want, I'll stand here and I'll just sit quietly with you while you if you want to turn from sin to put your faith in Christ.
38:26
He lived, he died and he rose again. And you can come to him right now for life. There is no magic prayer or words.
38:34
It's about your faith in Jesus. The Bible says, and I want to give you this last word. Jesus says, truly, truly,
38:41
I say to you, he who hears my voice and you have and believes in him who sent me has eternal life and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
38:53
Do you want to know Christ now? OK, I'll stand with you. And if you want to put your faith in Christ and in his work for you,
39:00
I'll sit here quietly with you while you while you pray. Do you want to? Yeah. OK, Father, I just pray.
39:20
Thank you so much for this moment, God, that you have given us both to Lord, have our paths crossed from I don't even know where he's from.
39:29
On this sidewalk, on this beach in Kauai, I thank you so much that you had our paths crossed.
39:35
Lord, you ordain this before the world began. Lord, I don't know the condition of his heart this moment,
39:41
Lord, but I know, Lord, he has said that he wants to trust you and believe in you, God. And I just pray, God, that you grant eyes to see even now and grant a heart to turn from sin to Christ.
39:51
And Lord, you grant to this man eternal life. I pray that you would allow him to know that,
39:57
Lord, it's apart from any work he could ever do. There's nothing he could ever do to fix himself or to cleanse himself.
40:03
It is all for your work alone. And I pray that even now you grant faith. We thank you, Lord, for the gift of eternal life and salvation and forgiveness.
40:11
We thank you for Jesus. It's in his name we pray. Amen. So do you trust in Christ? Yeah. And you have the gift of his righteousness and forgiveness.
40:19
And that's all true of us through faith, apart from any works or anything in ourselves.
