Well, here we are, our last class together.
00:04
You've just taken the final exam, which, of course, was really just a culmination of portions of what we have done this entire time.
00:17
For the sake of all of us just checking ourselves, we're just going to hold our own paper.
00:27
We're not going to pass it to the person next to us.
00:33
Well, it's not, and again, I'm hoping that you, if you can look down and see, you didn't know any of this eight weeks ago.
00:43
I mean, some of you may have studied a little bit, but however far you've gone is a milestone compared to where you were.
00:51
So please don't in any way think negatively about what you've done.
00:57
But very quickly, we'll go through the alphabet.
00:59
I'm just going to write the lower case.
01:03
There are obviously a lower and upper case, but the first one is what? Alpha.
01:29
This is the hard one to write.
01:49
So if yours looked like that, now again, if you did the uppercase and you felt more comfortable with the uppercase, that's fine.
01:55
The vast majority of the letters we see are in lowercase.
01:59
Very seldom do we see the uppercase.
02:01
So for me, I would have probably done it in lowercase just because it's what I was most familiar with.
02:05
But if you're good with the uppercase, then that's fine.
02:08
There's very little changes.
02:09
Like the gamma looks different and a few of the other ones, the omega looks different.
02:13
But a lot of them just look like a bigger version of the lowercase.
02:17
So that's the first thing.
02:19
If you got anywhere near that, that's great.
02:24
Hopefully you got the letters.
02:27
And now we're going to go through the words.
02:30
Each of these words I picked because I know that we have done them.
02:33
There was only one that I felt like was a maybe that you might have a lot of difficulty with.
02:41
So we're going to go through each one and we'll see if I was right or wrong in my thoughts.
02:47
The first word is what? And.
02:51
The word chi is and.
02:53
It's not the word that's used the most, but it is one of the words that is used the most in the New Testament.
03:01
Now we're going to go across the page.
03:04
So from chi to cardia.
03:06
Heart.
03:07
Did anybody have trouble with that one? I felt like that was one I mentioned every class.
03:12
I was hoping that was one everyone would get.
03:15
How about the next one? Cosmos is world.
03:20
That's right.
03:21
Next one over.
03:25
Angelos.
03:26
It's angel.
03:27
That's right.
03:28
Angelos.
03:28
You have the two gammas.
03:31
That is makes it the gamma nasal.
03:34
That was actually in your lesson this week.
03:36
That's part of the reason why it was on the sheet.
03:38
If you did your book work, that was one of the words that you went through.
03:42
Angelos.
03:43
All right.
03:45
Next.
03:47
Throne.
03:47
Thronos.
03:49
Or chair.
03:50
Could be chair.
03:51
That's fine.
03:52
Next.
03:55
Diabolos is devil.
03:56
Sometimes translated demon, but demon translates daemon.
04:01
Devil, demon, either one of those is okay.
04:04
But diabolos is typically the devil.
04:07
Next.
04:10
Anthropos.
04:10
That's right.
04:11
Man.
04:13
Next.
04:15
Father.
04:16
Patras.
04:21
Patriarch.
04:22
That's the root.
04:23
Patriarch is Arkay and Patras together because Arkay is the head.
04:30
So the patriarch is the head father.
04:33
So patriarch is a combination of Patras and Arkay.
04:37
Yeah, yeah.
04:38
For that, you're fine.
04:39
Yeah, you got it.
04:40
Yeah.
04:40
But Patras is father.
04:43
And there is pater as well.
04:46
If that was if that threw you off, don't don't.
04:48
Yeah, you don't have to mark it wrong.
04:50
That's again, can be can be done different ways.
04:56
Next down.
04:59
Next down.
05:01
The word pistis is the word faith or believe.
05:09
Belief.
05:11
Next.
05:13
Agape.
05:14
That's right.
05:16
Agape.
05:18
Next.
05:20
Lagos.
05:21
Word.
05:22
Word.
05:24
Next.
05:27
Adelphos.
05:27
Brother.
05:28
Right.
05:30
Next.
05:32
Theos.
05:33
God.
05:36
Next.
05:39
Fear.
05:40
Phobos.
05:41
Phobos.
05:42
Yeah, that's one that we didn't do a lot.
05:44
But I was thinking the phobia that I was thinking it might help you if you sounded it out.
05:49
I was working.
05:54
It threw me off.
05:55
I couldn't.
05:56
I was throwing blanks.
05:57
I knew we went over it, but I couldn't.
06:00
I think in the I think in one of the verses we looked at it was phobos because it was of fear.
06:05
You know, the spirit of fear.
06:07
It was in the genitive.
06:08
But but phobos is the yeah, the root.
06:13
All right.
06:14
Next.
06:16
Amen, which means.
06:18
Amen or truly.
06:20
Yeah.
06:25
Next.
06:27
Pneuma air breath spirit.
06:29
Yeah.
06:29
Any any one of those would will do.
06:34
Next.
06:37
Baptizo to baptize or baptism.
06:40
Yeah.
06:41
Yeah.
06:43
I knew that Greek word before I ever got into Greek.
06:46
Yeah.
06:47
There's some Greek words that we constantly went over.
06:49
It's a little bit of pre Greek before coming to Greek.
06:53
Oh, good.
06:54
Mm hmm.
06:56
Next.
07:00
This was the one I felt like it was I tried not to throw any curveballs, but this was the one that I said I didn't know if we went over this one enough.
07:09
This means not.
07:11
It's the it's the adversity of OOK or OOKS.
07:14
I think we went over that today.
07:16
I was gone.
07:16
I was just doing it.
07:18
I said it said, oh, you know, and it said not.
07:22
I just assumed.
07:23
Yeah, yeah.
07:24
OOKS and OOK are all derivatives of not.
07:28
They're all ways to say something is not.
07:32
Yeah, it's the adversity of.
07:35
OK.
07:38
Last one on the left.
07:42
Nope.
07:44
Ethnic nations.
07:46
Ethnic nation.
07:48
Yeah, no, it's not.
07:50
Well, no, this is ethnic ethnic.
07:53
Yeah.
07:54
Yeah.
07:55
And then the last one on the right.
07:59
Beginning our K first or beginning.
08:02
All right.
08:02
So that was just some words that we've used again.
08:07
I just sort of picked words that I had remembered us doing.
08:11
Not being notwithstanding, because that was the one I think we did the least.
08:16
All right.
08:17
Translate the following names.
08:19
I know we did this a lot, so hopefully this was a little easier.
08:23
Jesus.
08:24
Yesus.
08:26
John.
08:27
Yonais.
08:29
Petros.
08:29
Peter.
08:31
Andrew.
08:32
Andreas.
08:34
Yep.
08:35
Moses.
08:35
And then Abraham.
08:38
Abraham.
08:38
David.
08:40
Dawid.
08:41
It's David.
08:42
Paul.
08:43
It's Paulos.
08:45
Mary.
08:46
It's Miriam.
08:48
It's Isaac.
08:50
It's Isaac.
08:51
That's right.
08:52
All right.
08:52
So we have all the names.
08:56
Now, huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:01
But, you know, it does help with learning the letters.
09:05
That's why a lot of it is names and names of places.
09:08
In the book, it helps you, helps you learn the letters.
09:12
Translate the following prepositions.
09:14
I almost gave you the preposition chart, but it just didn't have room on the sheet.
09:18
So that probably would have actually made it easier if I had given you the chart.
09:23
Just looking at the prepositions makes it a little harder.
09:27
So let's go through them.
09:29
Epi.
09:30
On.
09:32
N.
09:34
N.
09:36
Ace.
09:36
Into.
09:37
Into.
09:38
Anti.
09:39
Against.
09:41
Dia.
09:42
Through.
09:43
Pros.
09:44
Toward.
09:46
Or with.
09:48
Para.
09:49
Beside.
09:51
Ek.
09:51
Out of.
09:53
A hundred points to anyone who can tell me who John Ek is.
10:06
He was, uh, uh, they can be turned in later for nothing.
10:14
They're redeemable for no, did you have an answer? Okay.
10:18
John Ek was one of the first people to debate Martin Luther on the subject of his theses.
10:24
When he posted the 95 theses, he debated the noted theologian John Ek.
10:31
Yeah.
10:33
All right.
10:34
Three Bible verses.
10:38
Now, if you were paying attention in class, these three verses should have jumped out at you because, because these three verses we did in class.
10:52
Oh, I didn't want to tell you that.
10:54
I wanted to see if you could figure it out.
10:56
The first one is what? John 3.16.
11:00
The next one.
11:03
Ephesians 2.8.
11:05
And the last one.
11:07
John 1.1.
11:08
That was the first verse we should, I showed you the very first night when I went through, uh, on the board.
11:14
So these were three that we actually wrote out and translated on the board.
11:18
So that was why I use those three.
11:21
All right.
11:23
Uh, so how did we do? I missed two letters.
11:29
I had two letters mixed up.
11:31
Okay.
11:31
And then, um, I messed up on.
11:36
I was looking for Patar for father.
11:38
So I messed up on that word and fear got me.
11:42
so I missed two words.
11:44
Okay.
11:44
Well, that's good.
11:45
That's good.
11:46
Wasn't too bad, dude.
11:48
All right.
11:49
So it wasn't a killer, right? It was hard, but it wasn't a killer.
11:52
It did what it was intended to do.
11:54
All right.
11:55
Um, does everyone have their folder for the class? Part of this class, do you have a folder? Did you fold your thing in? I just want to see it.
12:04
I don't need to go through it or examine it.
12:07
You can show me if you have a folder.
12:10
Here's a set for you.
12:15
It's fine.
12:15
It's fine.
12:16
I'm just, okay.
12:17
Why don't this first of all, take a seat on the green right over here.
12:21
Test in your, in your, in your folder.
12:24
I just want to, I'm just walking by to see it.
12:28
All right.
12:30
Again, keep these folders.
12:32
This is, this is your material.
12:34
This is what you did in class.
12:37
And you can reference back.
12:39
I still have, you know, I go out to my shed sometimes and I'll be moving stuff around and I'll open up a tote and I'll have all the papers that I wrote at Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary.
12:47
You know, I've got all these, these old things and some of them are really good.
12:51
Some of them are really bad.
12:52
Some of them are really embarrassing.
12:54
Did I still have all my phase one homework? I did.
12:57
Yeah.
12:58
You know, the first two weeks I was there, I was in the wrong book doing homework.
13:02
We're supposed to be going to the gospel of John.
13:04
And my first week I was in 1st John, like had no clue of anything.
13:10
Um, pretty funny when I go back to the summer, that's true.
13:16
Yeah.
13:20
Yeah, absolutely.
13:24
I, uh, when I, when I did my work at, uh, Ashford University, when I did my bachelor's degree work, I did it all on the computer.
13:31
So I kept everything in computer files.
13:34
And every once in a while I'll be doing a sermon where I'll think I wrote about this.
13:39
I have a degree in social, social science.
13:42
Uh, and, and I've written papers on everything from, uh, gun laws to all kinds of stuff that regards social behavior.
13:52
And so sometimes when I'm preaching, I'm like, hey, I have a paper I wrote on that.
13:56
I'll go back and I'll cut and paste.
13:58
So that's, it's a nice thing to be able to have that information.
14:00
And you can sometimes use it later, uh, to your benefit.
14:05
So, uh, so keep your folders if you can, um, they can be a real benefit.
14:10
All right, guys, we're going to turn to lesson 13 in our book, and we're going to finish the night with the last lesson.
14:16
13, uh, was your homework.
14:19
We're going to talk about it a little bit.
14:20
Then we're going to do lesson 14 as a class.
14:23
Then we are going to talk about your final exam, not final exam, your final project.
14:28
If you want to earn the certificate for the class, you got to do the project.
14:33
So that, that's the next, that's what we're going to do.
14:35
We're going to go through lesson 13 quickly.
14:37
Just make sure there's no questions.
14:39
We'll do lesson 14 as a class, and then we will talk about the final project.
14:45
So on lesson 13, page 68 of your book, you begin to be introduced to what are known, what the book calls the throat letters.
14:52
Um, I mentioned to you the gamma nasal, the gamma nasal, where, where the, if you have two gammas back to back, the first gamma receives the sound that because it is, is that as actually the noise and that's where you get on gloss.
15:07
And, uh, and that's where we get the, the, in English we spell it a N G E L, but in Greek, it's alpha gamma, gamma, Epsilon, uh, Lambda Omicron Sigma.
15:18
So you get that nug sound in, uh, in the word angel on gloss.
15:26
Now in the second part, exercise two, you put arc on gloss together and you get archangel.
15:32
You put on Galley on together and you get good news.
15:39
And this is a, this is something I use this at funerals a lot.
15:43
And I think I've mentioned it to you before, but just in case I have it, the prefix E U in English or Epsilon Upsilon in Greek means good.
15:56
So when you go to a funeral, you give a eulogy, which is a good word.
16:06
It's, it's you log us, it's good word.
16:10
And, uh, that's a, that's an easy way to remember that the prefix E U or Epsilon Upsilon means good.
16:16
As a eulogy is a good word.
16:19
And the same way, the U on Galley on on gloss is a messenger.
16:26
On Galley on his message.
16:28
So the, Ooh, on Galley on is a good message.
16:33
And what word do we use for the good message or the good news? Gospel.
16:38
That's right.
16:39
So the, and Galley on is the gospel.
16:44
And then the, and Galley it.
16:46
So is that's the verb means to preach.
16:51
Oh, and Gal it.
16:53
So who angle it? So is it? I said, I said it a little wrong.
16:57
And then the, and Galley stays is, yeah, that is the, uh, that is the, the, the proclaimer.
17:06
That's the, the think of this.
17:09
Ooh, and Galley stays evangelist is the English derivative evangelist.
17:16
Um, what's different from preacher and evangelist? Evangelist is more than 20 miles from home.
17:29
Yeah.
17:31
Uh, you know, I do like, I look at brother Mike in our church and I say, there's a man gifted to evangelism and he, that's his gift.
17:42
Uh, even though he does certainly have the, the, the ability to preach.
17:47
Uh, he has the, the, the, the boldness to go out into the highways and the byways.
17:52
And to proclaim the gospel without fear.
17:54
And he has a very powerful way of doing that.
17:56
And so I say, there's a man when the Bible talks about somebody who's gifted to evangelism, I would say him, we're all called to evangelize, but I think that God does gift certain individuals with that boldness that's needed.
18:09
And, uh, so an evangelist.
18:11
All right.
18:12
So on the next page, it shows you how to change those words into English, evangelist, evangelize.
18:19
Uh, and then it takes you through a Bible verse on, uh, the angel said to the shepherds, do not fear for behold.
18:24
I, and that word, oh, and get lit.
18:26
So my, I, I put proclaim to you.
18:30
You could say preach, but, but in this sense, I think translated better proclaim.
18:34
What word did you guys get? Bring.
18:37
Yeah.
18:38
And that, yeah, that's, that's a way that it's translated sometimes.
18:41
Yep.
18:42
And I'm not ashamed of the, who angelion, the gospel for it is the dunamis.
18:49
Did I explain to you guys the dunamis issue? Dunamis is an important word, but it, uh, it simply means power later.
18:58
Uh, it would be used in English to, uh, for the, for dynamite, the word dynamite comes from dunamis.
19:06
And sometimes I've heard people say, well, the, the gospel is the dynamite of the, of, of, of God, you know, because, and that's sort of, huh? Yeah.
19:18
That's a, that's what you call an anachronism.
19:20
That's reading back into something, a later meaning, a dynamite comes later.
19:27
Uh, it's certainly not what Paul is intending.
19:29
Now, as the gospel is powerful as dynamite is more powerful than dynamite.
19:32
So it's not necessarily wrong, but it's, it's one of those sort of pet peeves.
19:36
When I hear people say the word dunamis means dynamite.
19:39
Uh, no, the word dunamis is where we get the word dynamite, but that is not what it meant.
19:45
It meant power.
19:46
Uh, and then fail is in the genitive, which means of God.
19:52
Yeah.
19:52
All right.
19:53
Uh, exercise for Patrick.
19:56
Our case is patriarch.
19:59
That's what we talked about earlier.
20:00
Frank, the patriarch, the, the, the one who's the, the head father or honored ancestor, our cat, our chaos, archaic sea, uh, anti Christos D now that, that, that, that takes a very specific eschatological position.
20:20
Antichrist.
20:21
Uh, and then the architect tone architect.
20:25
Yeah.
20:26
Uh, according to the Karen, they, grace of God given to me, I laid a foundation as a sofas architect tone.
20:36
Why is architect, uh, the usually translated master builder, you know, a wise master builder, but architect is fine.
20:44
No other foundation can be laid beside the one who is laid, who is Jesus Christ.
20:50
Jesus Christ.
20:53
Match these Greek words with the English equivalents.
20:57
I own Eon.
21:00
And now this is you remember in John three 16, I only on meant eternal, the word eternal.
21:08
There's actually not a word that means eternal.
21:11
It just means a really, really long time.
21:13
Uh, and that's, can be confusing.
21:17
They didn't think in terms of eternal, they thought, and they thought in terms of long time.
21:22
And so, yeah, myriads, Moriarty.
21:29
Yeah.
21:30
Yeah.
21:30
And so that's the, but, but certainly it means never ending.
21:35
That's, that's the, that's the language that's used never ending.
21:39
Uh, so we know that it is eternal.
21:41
All right.
21:42
Uh, I goop toss.
21:46
That's Egypt.
21:47
Yeah.
21:48
Yeah.
21:49
Uh, diamond demon, uh, enigma, enigma, uh, gangrena, gangrene.
22:02
Why would it be gang green? Well, instead of gone green, but it's a double, got the double gamma, right? You get the, the, the, the, the gamma gamma.
22:13
It gives you the gamma nasal.
22:16
Yeah, that's right.
22:17
All right.
22:18
Our, um, uh, erect to costs, a radical.
22:25
I'm a blood blood.
22:30
Um, yeah.
22:32
Hemoglobin is Heima.
22:35
All right.
22:36
Now this is first John chapter one, but it's not, it's not, uh, it kind of skipped some parts.
22:47
Excuse me.
22:48
This was that, which was from the, our case, uh, which we heard, which we saw with our awful mice and he held with our care.
22:58
Us touching concerning the logos.
23:02
Oh, ace word of life.
23:04
Kai, the Zoe appeared Kai and we saw a guy, uh, Marta, Martor, who men, uh, it's, uh, this is kind of an important, uh, the word martyr was the word for witness.
23:28
We would later use that as a person who gave their life because it was so consistent that people who would make a witness for Christ would die for their witness.
23:39
But the word Martyr simply means a witness.
23:43
Um, so the, we saw and witnessed and announced to you the eternal Zoe in life, which was with the Patera, the father.
23:54
And, and we're not gonna do the guys anymore.
23:58
Uh, what we saw and heard, we announced also to you so that you also may have fellowship with us.
24:04
And our fellowship is with the Patras father Kai and with his son, Jesus Christ.
24:12
And these things, we graph, I'm in graph.
24:16
Oh, men is, uh, right.
24:18
So that you, um, so that our joy might be full.
24:21
And this is the Angalia message, which we heard from him and announced to you that God is light.
24:32
Oh, I gave it to you light folks.
24:35
And, uh, darkness is not in him at all.
24:38
If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk, in darkness, we lie and do not do the truth.
24:45
But if we walk in the light and he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another.
24:54
Yep.
24:55
All alone.
24:56
And the AMA blood of Jesus, his cleanses us from all sin.
25:06
Very good.
25:07
And how do you, how do you read that? Yeah, it's either we ask, or we, we, it's like, we, the, we, we, you, we, us, because the Upsilon Yoda makes that same sound as the word sweet.
25:26
Like a, like you stay in a nice hotel suite, the UI sound.
25:31
So the UI, the Upsilon Yoda at the beginning is making a week.
25:34
So it's, we ask, or we, you is the, is the sound.
25:41
All right.
25:44
The double throat letters.
25:46
You have the gamma gamma, which makes the NG.
25:49
And that gives you angel.
25:52
You have the gamma key, which gives you Nick.
25:57
And that's like anchor, anchor.
26:01
And then you have the, the gamma.
26:05
I'm sorry.
26:08
You can say gamma, gamma.
26:10
See, I'm sorry.
26:10
My brain quit.
26:12
And that's, you get nukes, nukes, like larynx, like your throat.
26:18
That's a larynx.
26:20
So it's Nick or nukes, but you're still getting that sound.
26:26
Not a good, but a new.
26:29
All right.
26:30
So rejoice as you share in the suffering, Christo Christo of Christ, so that you may also be glad at the revealing.
26:38
Apocalypse, I, it is revelation, revealing or appearing of his docsis, his glory.
26:44
My logos and my Karuga.
26:49
Preaching.
26:50
Yes.
26:51
Yes.
26:52
Karuga.
26:53
That's a somewhat important word for those who are preachers.
26:56
It's, it's one of the words that's used for preaching was not with enticing of wisdom.
27:03
They did not find any through many pseudo Marturo false witnesses.
27:11
That's right.
27:12
Pseudo means false.
27:13
And Marturo is, is a witness.
27:16
They ordained elders, presbyterus and every church.
27:23
Yesus, Jesus rebuked it.
27:25
And the daemonium went out, which hope we have as an anchor of the soul and then lastly, their throat, their larynx, larynx is an open taphas.
27:43
It's great.
27:45
All right.
27:46
Now the next one is the capital letters.
27:50
I'm just going to give you the answers real quick so we can get through these and move on to lesson 14.
27:55
Capital letters are as follows.
27:57
One C two D three a four B five six H seven E eight nine 10 L 11 I and 12 K Very good.
28:21
And there is one thing that's kind of important on page 73.
28:25
So before you turn, just look very quickly with me as it gives you the letters here, which we, which we did the first night.
28:31
But this, this, this actually, the intention of the book is to take you through everything and then give you the letters.
28:37
So, and because the most important thing is learning to recognize the letters in words.
28:41
And then you come now and here's the alphabet.
28:44
But if you look at the combinations on page 73, it talks about the, the gamma gamma and the, the, the, the, that nasal gamma that you get.
28:55
But it also talks about the accents.
28:58
Now we didn't talk about accents because we didn't use accents for this class.
29:02
But if you look at a Greek New Testament, you're going to see accents on top of the words.
29:07
So this is a little helpful tool.
29:09
It shows you that the first three are all the same.
29:13
They all sound the same.
29:14
The backward apostrophe that goes above the first letter will normally be above a vowel sound.
29:23
And it adds a ha, a ha sound.
29:26
If it's a forward facing apostrophe, then it doesn't make the ha sound.
29:31
And so those, those two are the probably the most important for you to remember is if you see a backward comma above a vowel at the beginning of the word, just remember, you're going to have the ha sound.
29:41
And if you don't see it, you're not.
29:43
All right.
29:45
Lesson 14.
29:50
Now this is all caps.
29:53
So it's almost like the page is yelling at you in a text message.
29:57
Really? No laughs.
29:59
Okay.
30:00
It wasn't a great joke.
30:02
That's a dad joke.
30:02
It's like the book of Galatians.
30:04
He said he wrote it all in large letters.
30:08
All right.
30:09
So if you look at each of the letters, or if you look at each of everything, this one's going to be kind of hard to do.
30:22
But we'll try to follow it down the left side of the coast and work our way back up.
30:28
So the very first top left is what? Yep.
30:32
Sidon.
30:32
Uh, uh, which side and side on how in, in Greek it's a, it's C don't because remember the Yoda is going to have the sound.
30:42
So it's don't, uh, but in English we would say side.
30:47
Uh, the next one down, that's kind of tilted Syria going down the coast, uh, past the, the, the dotted Kaiser area Kaiser area.
31:00
That's kind of a just real stop there.
31:04
Kaiser Kodios think we always say Caesar, but it's Kaiser.
31:10
It's it's the, uh, Kaiser was how, how it would have been pronounced.
31:13
Kaiser Kodios was what was demanded of the people.
31:16
You must say that Caesar's Lord.
31:18
Christian said, uh, no, Yeshu Kodios or Yeshu Kodios.
31:23
Jesus is Lord.
31:24
And that's why many of them gave their life because they were unwilling to bow the knee to Caesar as Lord.
31:30
But that's Kaiseria.
31:33
Uh, all right.
31:34
Moving down the coast.
31:37
Yep.
31:37
Joppa, uh, Yappe, but Joppa all the way down.
31:43
Gaza, the one that's in the sign.
31:48
Yep.
31:48
That's Egypt.
31:49
Moving down to the bottom.
31:55
It's Idomaea.
31:56
Uh, if you look under regions, it's the last one on the bottom.
32:00
Idomaea.
32:01
That's how we would normally say it.
32:03
The next sign pointing to the bottom, right? Yep.
32:06
Arabia.
32:07
Arabia.
32:08
Then going up.
32:11
Bethlehem.
32:12
Bethlehem.
32:13
Now what does Bethlehem mean? Who said what now? Actually means house of bread.
32:21
House of bread.
32:22
Yep.
32:22
Yep.
32:22
House of bread.
32:24
Yeah.
32:25
Bethel is house of the Lord.
32:26
Beth means house.
32:28
So lachem is bread and el is a prefix for God.
32:31
So Bethel is house of God.
32:33
Bethlehem is, is house of bread.
32:39
Bethlehem is house of bread.
32:41
Yeah.
32:41
And it was, it was there that the bread of life.
32:47
Yeah.
32:47
It was there that the bread of life was, came into the world.
32:51
Okay.
32:52
Going up.
32:55
Bethany is one above it.
32:56
But the, but the one below that is.
32:59
Yeah.
33:00
Jerusalem.
33:00
Yeah.
33:01
So there's Jerusalem.
33:02
And then the tilted one off to the left.
33:07
You die.
33:08
It's Judah.
33:12
All right.
33:13
Or Judea.
33:14
Yeah.
33:15
Sorry.
33:16
Yep.
33:17
Going up to the river.
33:22
Oh yeah.
33:22
Some areas to the left.
33:23
Yep.
33:24
But what is the, it's got a dot beside it.
33:26
Begins with the Yoda.
33:28
Epsilon row.
33:33
Hmm.
33:38
Yeah.
33:38
Jericho.
33:39
Yeah.
33:41
Now what's the name of the river? It's the Jordan river, but what's the word there? Potomac.
33:47
Remember that? Means river.
33:50
Yep.
33:50
Hippopotamus, a river horse.
33:52
Yep.
33:53
Moving up to the, to the big body of water there.
33:57
That is the, the, the, the bottom word is.
34:01
Tiberias.
34:02
Tiberias.
34:03
And then the word above that.
34:05
Gennesaret.
34:06
Remember the story of Jesus going to the, into Gennesaret where he saw the man who was filled with, filled with demons.
34:13
To the left side of that.
34:16
We have.
34:17
Nain.
34:17
Nain, which is where Jesus raised the widow's son.
34:22
Remember the widow's son from Nain.
34:24
And then above that.
34:27
Nazareth.
34:28
Above that.
34:29
Cana.
34:31
And then what's significant about Cana? Jesus's first miracle, the wedding of Cana.
34:36
That's right.
34:37
To the left of that.
34:39
Galileo, which is Galilee.
34:41
Above that.
34:45
Capernaum.
34:46
Caper, Capernaum, however you pronounce it.
34:49
And then to the right of that.
34:52
Bethsaida.
34:54
And then the last sign pointing up and to the right.
34:59
Yep.
35:00
Yep.
35:00
Antioch and, and it's Antioch and Damascus.
35:04
All right.
35:05
So that's a, that is a nice little helpful tool.
35:10
Because as you're reading through, if you're looking at the Greek New Testament, those are all places that you will find and see.
35:19
And that can help you.
35:21
Now, the last page, 75 and 76, are the books of the Bible.
35:29
The books of the, of the New Testament in Greek.
35:33
And the word kata means according to.
35:39
So if I said kata markan, it is the gospel of Mark.
35:44
You don't have to write the gospel of, just, just give me the answer.
35:47
Kata yone.
35:50
John.
35:52
Kata lukon.
35:54
Luke.
35:56
Proxes apostolon.
36:01
It's, yep.
36:01
If you think of the word practice, acts of the apostles.
36:07
So it's the acts.
36:09
I've often, I've heard it.
36:10
I've heard it said like this.
36:12
We call it the acts of the apostles, but really what it should be called is the acts of the Holy Spirit.
36:18
Because the book of Acts really shows us the ministry of the Holy Spirit from Pentecost forward as Christ is taken away and the Spirit is given.
36:30
So yes, we see the acts of the apostles, but really it's they're doing the work under the power of the Holy Spirit.
36:36
All right.
36:37
Matheon.
36:39
Matthew.
36:39
Okay.
36:40
I tell you what, let's go.
36:41
Letters of Paul.
36:42
I'm just going to say the number.
36:43
You give me what it is.
36:44
Number one.
36:46
Ephesians.
36:46
That's right.
36:47
You see the epsilon and the fee.
36:49
So that should key you in right there.
36:51
Next.
36:52
Number two.
36:54
Galatians.
36:56
Three.
36:58
Yep.
36:59
Philemon.
37:00
Four.
37:07
Romans.
37:07
That's right.
37:09
Yeah.
37:10
That capital, people thinking P, but it's a row.
37:14
That capital P looks, it is a row.
37:18
Number five.
37:19
Titus.
37:20
Number six.
37:24
Colossians.
37:25
Yep.
37:25
Number seven.
37:27
Second Corinthians.
37:28
Because of the B.
37:29
The way that instead of a one or a two, it labeled A or B.
37:32
Alpha or beta.
37:34
Okay.
37:34
Number eight.
37:37
Second Timothy.
37:39
Number nine.
37:41
First Thessalonians.
37:42
Number 10.
37:45
First Timothy.
37:46
Number 11.
37:48
Second Thessalonians.
37:49
If you've got nine, you definitely should get 11.
37:51
And number 12.
37:53
It is first Corinthians and number 13.
37:58
Philippians.
37:59
That's right.
38:00
Now.
38:02
This says Hebrews to the end.
38:05
These are the, the general epistles.
38:09
We have Petro, Petro, Petro a.
38:13
First Peter.
38:14
He own a B.
38:19
Yoda.
38:21
Jude.
38:23
Yakub boy.
38:24
Yakubu.
38:27
James.
38:29
Apocalypse is EO known.
38:33
Yes.
38:33
That would be the revelation of John.
38:35
The word apocalypse.
38:38
We often hear the word apocalypse associated with what? The end of the world.
38:43
Oh, it's the apocalypse is dawning or the apocalypse is raining down upon us.
38:48
And really it just means the revelation.
38:52
The exposing or the, the revelation.
38:56
All right.
38:57
He own a gamma.
39:00
Notice that's a gamma.
39:01
Third John.
39:03
That's right.
39:03
Cause if it's, uh, alpha, beta, gamma, gamma would be, uh, the third, uh, Hebrew, uh, Hebrew.
39:13
Hebrews.
39:15
Uh, he own new a alpha first John and Petro B.
39:22
Second Peter.
39:23
All right.
39:24
Very good.
39:24
Now let's look at page 77.
39:27
This is, we have, that was the formal ending of all of the first chapter of this book.
39:33
How do you feel? All right.
39:37
I feel great.
39:39
Okay.
39:40
If you have gotten this far in the book, these are the things that have occurred at least, uh, hopefully one, you have become at home with the Greek alphabet and pronunciation.
39:51
I could hear you all speaking.
39:54
And again, it is, uh, it's, it's there.
39:57
You guys are doing it.
39:58
You've seen dozens of Greek words that remind you of English words.
40:01
Those are the easiest ones to learn right off the bat.
40:04
You've learned a few Greek words that are not like English words.
40:07
Kai, oikos, and the prepositions.
40:10
You've seen that the Greek words change their endings in the next part.
40:13
You will find out why and how, again, if you want to study the endings and why and how that's in the next portion, you've seen the derivation of a mini, a great mini religious ending.
40:22
Technical terms, many additional cognates will be found scattered through the coming pages.
40:29
Now, if you want to go to part two, it tells you what part two is all about.
40:34
Have you enjoyed yourself? Well, good.
40:37
If you have your syllabus, take it out.
40:39
If you don't, it's okay.
40:40
But if you do have it for this one, for this class, we are going to discuss the research project, pray and be done rather than taking a break and coming back.
40:59
We'll just do it now and we'll be done.
41:01
Unless you need to take a break.
41:06
Here, take a five minute break.
41:07
Everybody take a five minute break.
41:11
All right, everyone back? If you open up your syllabus to the second page, you will see the research project and we're going to discuss what is required.
41:27
The research project will consist of five Greek words.
41:34
These are words of your choosing, but let me remind you that I'm asking for an analysis of each of the words.
41:45
Therefore, I would choose words that you feel like would bear analyzing.
41:51
Analyzing.
41:52
I mean, if you pick chi and epi and n, those might not be the words you want to pick.
42:00
You might want to pick the, you know, agape certainly has a myriad of things that have been written on it and you could dive deep into that.
42:13
But what it says, it says students will write an analysis of each word, including the meanings of the word.
42:18
Notice it says meanings because a lot of words, just like English words have nuances of meaning.
42:25
And so basically what you're learning to do is a proper word study so that you would write an analysis with the meanings of the words, the word, the semantic range.
42:37
What does that mean? Well, it means how it's used in different contexts.
42:43
Does Paul use the word sanctified differently than John? Well, if you're studying sanctify, you would see if it's used differently and how.
42:54
How often is it used in the New Testament and which authors use it? And in what way? That's part of what I was just saying with the semantic range.
43:03
Students should look for ways this analysis might give more understanding of individual biblical texts and include that information as well.
43:12
The written analysis should be no more than one page per word.
43:17
Now, I'm not saying you have to fill a whole page for each word.
43:22
What I'm saying is I don't want more than five pages.
43:26
I got to read all this.
43:29
And, you know, it's I want to see that you did the work.
43:35
A lot of times I'll say, you know, I want, you know, four to five pages and I'll get seven pages.
43:41
I'm sorry.
43:41
Yeah, that's fine.
43:43
But yes, I appreciate hard work.
43:46
So but but but it shouldn't be any more than a page.
43:49
Now, I'll give you an example.
43:51
If I were doing it, one word that I might choose the word cosmos is translated world in the book of John.
44:02
But it has upwards of 11 different nuances of meaning in John's writing alone.
44:12
From where he says that God so loved the world.
44:16
And then later he says, love not the world, neither the things in the world.
44:19
And Jesus said, I did not.
44:21
I'm not praying for those who are in the world, but those whom you've given me out of the world.
44:25
All of those are different ways that cosmon cosmos is being used in different contexts.
44:33
And so those are all that's an example of how you can really dive into one word and see how that word is used.
44:42
Oftentimes, John, when he speaks of world is not referring to every individual, but he's referring to the world of the Gentiles, the Jews and Gentiles that which make up the world rather than any type of universal application.
45:00
So I'm giving you a little a little taste of what you could go into once you have come up with those semantic ranges and done your your research, write a little paragraph about what how this would help you understand the scripture that you know, that's that's how you're going to fill up that page is you're not just going to write what it means and how many times it's used and all that.
45:24
But you're going to then say, OK, based on my analysis, this would help me understand better.
45:29
John 3, 16 and second, first, John 2, 1.
45:33
And are these different verses that use the word world? These this helps me understand this better because of this.
45:39
You know, agape, if that's the word you choose, understanding this helps me understand First Corinthians 13 or whatever.
45:47
So you're basically learning to do word studies because very few of us are ever going to try to break into reading the Greek language off the page.
45:59
But if you're a student of the Bible, you're going to have to be familiar with looking up the original language and the words that are used so that you understand whether or not your translation is accurate to what the original said.
46:14
And so this is a this is a task that I think can benefit everyone.
46:18
And like I said, I'm I'm just looking for you to to do the work.
46:24
You have four weeks to do the work, which means the next class will have started before this one officially ends, because the next class begins in three weeks from tonight.
46:36
And so four weeks, the second week of that class, you will have the you will have if you're doing it, you should turn it in before that second week of that class.
46:47
And I will award the certificates once it has the work has been examined and and graded.
46:55
And you'll receive your your work back with a grade if you email it to me, which is probably the easiest way for you to turn it in is write it on a computer or tablet of some kind, email it to me.
47:07
And my email is in the syllabus.
47:09
You email it to me and I will grade it.
47:12
I'll print it, grade it, give it back to you in class.
47:15
Now, if you don't come to the next class, I will print it, grade it.
47:19
And if you want to come to the church and receive your certificate or if you want me to mail it to you, I can do that as well, depending on if you're not going to be here for the next semester.
47:28
Are there any questions? Yes, sir.
47:38
No, but you do need to you need to document.
47:42
You see the second part where it says it should be submitted in the following format.
47:46
And it says a properly cited bibliography page.
47:49
Now, if you don't know how to do a bibliography page, Google either APA format or MLA format.
47:57
Either one of those is acceptable.
47:59
I prefer APA, but MLA also is acceptable.
48:02
And basically what that is, is a format for citing your source.
48:06
So let's say you quote from a commentary or a dictionary.
48:12
You quote a whole sentence.
48:13
You would put that in quotation marks and you would cite your source in the text.
48:18
And that would tie to something in your bibliography page, whether it's with a number as in MLA or a parenthetical notation, which is APA.
48:25
And you'll see that when you look that up, what that means.
48:27
Um, if you've not written a paper since school, maybe you weren't in, you were in high school, you know, 20 years ago or whatever.
48:34
Uh, uh, I'm, I'm, I'm not, I'm not dogmatic, but I do ask that you try your best.
48:41
Um, you know, if you make a mistake, it's not a huge thing.
48:43
But, uh, but this is, you know, this is seminary level work.
48:46
I'd like for you to try to produce a seminary, uh, acceptable paper.
48:51
Something that you would be happy to turn in.
48:53
Um, like I said, if you have trouble, you have my email address.
48:56
You have my phone number.
48:58
You have my ear.
48:59
Uh, I'm, I'm, I want to help you.
49:01
So, all right, let's, uh, end with prayer.
49:05
Father, thank you for this time to study together.
49:08
I pray that the last few weeks have been ones that we'll remember for a long time, uh, if not for the material, Lord, but just for a time of fellowship and, and, and growing together and the desire to study you and study your word.
49:21
I thank you for each of these students.
49:22
I pray that you'll bless them.
49:24
I pray that you'll bring us back next semester with a desire to grow deeper in the word as we look at your, uh, your scriptures and the old covenant.
49:32
We pray all this in Christ's name.
49:34
Amen.
