00:18
Well, a good Wednesday morning to you. Here we are, the last day of the month of August. Isn't that incredible?
00:24
That sort of, psychologically anyway, tells us summer is over. Yeah, I know we technically have three weeks of it left, but tell that to our emotions, right?
00:36
When September dawns, we feel like fall is upon us. Well, nevertheless, today we're reading in Hebrews chapter one.
00:45
And you know, the book of Hebrews is a wonderful book that extols and exalts the
00:53
Lord Jesus Christ, lifts him up. And it does so right at the very beginning of the book in chapter one, talking about how
01:01
God at various times in verse one and in various ways, he spoke to the fathers, to the
01:08
Old Testament people by the prophets. And these were wonderful men of God raised up to speak to the people in their time.
01:18
You have men like Isaiah and Jeremiah, Ezekiel. You had prophets, the minor prophets,
01:23
Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, and so forth. You had these prophets who were given the word of God to give to God's people and ended up recording a lot of their prophecy and what they had to say.
01:36
So God spoke by these prophets, but in verse two, he says in these last days, he's spoken to us by his son, by the
01:46
Lord Jesus Christ. And this gives a sense of finality to the revelation that God has given to us through the
01:54
Lord Jesus Christ. But look at how the writer goes on to exalt
02:00
Christ and extol him, the son whom he, God the
02:05
Father, appointed heir of all things, through whom he also made the worlds.
02:14
So Christ owns all things because by virtue of being the heir of all things, appointed heir of all things, he owns all things, and he created all the worlds.
02:28
So look out into the sky, look at those images that are coming from these telescopes that have been sent out into the space and see what
02:41
Christ has made. He made all of that. And in verse three, he goes on to say, he is the brightness of his glory and the express image of his person.
02:54
So all the glory that is inherent in God the
02:59
Father is inherent in God the Son. All that is true of God the
03:04
Father is true of Christ the Son, Christ who is the image, the icon of the
03:12
Heavenly Father. So that word, icon, image, we kind of get an idea of what that means by looking at our computer screen.
03:21
You see on your computer screen a little square image of a software program, say for Microsoft Word.
03:31
And that little icon, what that's telling you is that everything that is in that program,
03:39
Microsoft Word, is contained in that little square. It's all there.
03:47
Now, physically, in terms of bytes and so forth, kilobytes and megabytes and gigabytes and all that stuff, what that icon does is it launches the program.
03:59
We understand it's a shortcut, but the image itself is communicating, this is the program.
04:06
Jesus is communicating, he is the glory of the Father. All of the glory of the
04:13
Father is in Christ. All that the Father is, Christ is, as God the
04:19
Son. And he upholds all things by the word of his power, verse 3 goes on to say.
04:25
Consider the greatness of Christ. He created all things, he's the heir of all things, he's the express image of God's person and glory, he is all of these things.
04:38
And then it says this, and even in all of his greatness and grandeur and glory, it says this, when he had by himself purged our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high.
04:56
When he had purged, he himself had purged our sins. Get the significance of that in terms of personal importance and application?
05:08
The Lord Jesus Christ, the one who was instrumental in creating all of the universe, the one who sustains all of the universe, the one who is
05:22
God in the flesh when he walked on this earth, he purged my sins, your sins, by his sacrifice on that cross.
05:37
What amazing condescension that he would become flesh, dwell among us, and die in our place.
05:49
Oh, what amazing grace. What amazing condescension.
05:55
Our Lord Jesus Christ, the creator of all things and sustainer of all things, is the
06:02
Savior of our souls. Let's rejoice and be glad in him today, shall we?
06:08
Our Father and our God, we thank you for Christ, the Savior, the Son. We thank you for his power and his authority.
06:16
We thank you for his glory and his excellence. But we also thank you today that he is our
06:23
Savior, that he purged our sins in his own body on that tree.
06:30
Thank you. We praise you in Jesus' name. Amen. All right.
