Good morning. Thank you for letting me join you this morning. Let's sing together. One King, there is no other that can compare to you.
01:02
You are the one alone in greatness, the one who never changes.
01:11
Jesus, you are the one who rose in power, the one who reigns forever.
01:25
Jesus, the one true God. One boss, one light of the world.
01:45
One name, one word, one way to be saved.
01:53
One lamb that was slain, one love above all.
02:01
There is no other that can compare to you.
02:08
You are the one alone in greatness, the one who never changes.
02:18
Jesus, you are the one who rose in power, the one who reigns forever.
02:32
Jesus, the one true God. You're the one true
02:38
God. And we have seen the glory of the one and only
02:47
Son of God. Yes, we have seen the glory of the one and only
02:55
Son of God. You are the one alone in greatness, the one who never changes.
03:09
Jesus, you are the one who rose in power, the one who reigns forever.
03:22
Jesus, the one true God. You're the one true
03:30
God. You're the one true God.
04:05
Worship the King, all glorious above. All gratefully sing
04:11
His wonderful love. Our shield and defender, the
04:16
Ancient of Days. Pavillioned in splendor and girded with grace.
04:26
O tell of His might, O sing of His grace. Whose robes the light and canopy space.
04:35
His chariots of wrath, the deep thunder clouds form. And dark is the path on the wings of the storm.
04:47
You alone are the matchless King. You alone be all majesty.
04:56
Your glories at one, your tongue can recite. You breathe the air.
05:04
You shine the light. O measureless might, ineffable love.
05:14
While angels delight to worship above. Thy mercies, how tender, how firm to the end.
05:24
Our maker, defender, redeemer and friend. You alone are the matchless
05:35
King. You alone be all majesty. Your glories at one, your tongue can recite.
05:45
You breathe the air. You shine the light.
05:53
You shine the light. You shine the light.
06:24
Darkness we are waiting. Without hope, without light.
06:30
So from heaven you came running. There was mercy in your eyes.
06:36
To fulfill the law and prophets. To a virgin came the word.
06:43
From the throne of endless glory. To a cradle in the dirt.
06:52
Praise the Father. Praise the
06:57
Son. Praise the Spirit. Three in one.
07:05
God of glory, majesty.
07:12
Praise forever to the King of kings.
07:20
To reveal the kingdom coming. And to reconcile the lost.
07:28
To redeem the whole creation. You did not despise the cross.
07:34
For even in your suffering. You saw to the other side.
07:41
Knowing this was our salvation. Jesus for our sake you died.
07:50
Praise the Father. Praise the Son. Praise the
07:58
Spirit. Three in one. God of glory, majesty.
08:10
Praise forever to the King. Of keen mourning that you rose.
08:22
All of heaven held its breath. Till the soul was moved for good.
08:29
And the Lamb had conquered death. And the death rose from their tombs.
08:35
And the angel stood in awe. For the souls of all who come.
08:42
To the Father are restored. And the church of Christ was born.
08:51
Then the Spirit lit the flame. Now the gospel truth of all.
08:57
Shall not kneel and shall not faint. By His blood and in His name.
09:03
I am free and I am free. For the love of Jesus Christ.
09:10
Who had resurrected me. Praise the
09:17
Father. Praise the Son. Praise the
09:24
Spirit. Three in one. God of glory, majesty.
09:35
Praise forever to the King of kings.
09:42
Praise forever to the King of kings.
10:03
Let's pray. Lord it is so good to come into your presence and to open your word.
10:12
We're here as students. We ask that you would teach us. We want to learn this morning.
10:19
The meaning of the word Tetelestai. That one Greek word.
10:26
To know that it means it is finished. But to fully grasp.
10:34
What that means for us. That it was the will of the Father.
10:40
To crush the Son. In order to spare us.
10:47
That the wrath of God which was upon us. Was fully satisfied.
10:52
In the sacrifice. Of Jesus on the cross. And that all of these prophecies that foretold this one event.
11:03
Were fulfilled. It is finished. We pray
11:09
Lord that you would motivate your people to go out preaching Tetelestai to the ends of the earth.
11:15
The gospel in a word. Tetelestai. Teach us first from your word in order that we would be sent out with that ammunition.
11:25
With that weaponry. With this gospel truth that can overcome any enemy.
11:31
That we would go out and conquer through the word of God which is our sword. Strengthen your people this morning by your word.
11:40
For it is finished. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Robert Van Kampen.
11:49
Tells the story of a farmer. Who grew watermelons.
11:56
And in his watermelon patch. He had a beautiful watermelon patch. He had so many watermelons.
12:01
But the problem was. They would all get devoured by the neighborhood teenagers. Who would come and steal away the watermelons.
12:09
And enjoy a free treat. So the farmer got to thinking. How he could protect his watermelon patch.
12:17
And he posted a sign. That said beware. Steal watermelons at your own risk.
12:24
One of them is poisoned. And so because he posted the sign.
12:30
The teenager saw it. And they were afraid to steal any of the watermelons. Because if even one of them is poisoned.
12:38
You don't know which one it was. And so they left the watermelon patch alone. Well played
12:44
Mr. Farmer. I love it. But the teenagers weren't done. One of these slick smart kids.
12:52
Came back with a sign of his own. That said now there are two.
12:58
And the farmer came out and saw the sign. That said now there are two. And realized that wait a minute. These kids claim.
13:05
That they have poisoned another one. Which meant that for the farmer himself. The entire watermelon patch was a waste.
13:15
Van Kampen tells the story. To illustrate the point. That if even one truth of the
13:21
Bible. Affirmed by scripture. Is poison. Then the whole thing must be discarded.
13:28
And sadly as many people come to the teaching. Of the Bible. Regarding the wrath of God.
13:36
The orgy. The wrath. The outburst of anger. The violent explosive.
13:44
Judging nature of God. Many people turn away.
13:50
And they must reject the whole book. In its entirety because they cannot accept. That a loving
13:56
God would send sinners to hell. It's poison in the watermelon patch.
14:06
This morning I have good news. Such good news. And that good news as I've already said.
14:13
Can be summarized in one Greek word. If there was only one Greek word that I could teach.
14:19
That you would know a little bit of Greek. Not for the sake of having knowledge of some language.
14:24
Which actually is the same language that they speak in Greece today. With some small derivations.
14:30
Some changes over time. That word would be. Tetelestai. It is finished.
14:38
And the good news is this. That yes the Bible teaches that God has wrath.
14:45
And that he will finish that wrath. By eternally punishing sinners.
14:51
This terrible news. This troubling news. Which many people can't swallow.
14:58
They can't ingest that. And so they reject the Bible in totality. This news about the wrath of God.
15:05
Turns over on its head. And becomes the greatest news this world has ever heard.
15:11
In that God so loved the world. That he gave his one and only son. That whoever believes in him.
15:18
Will not suffer wrath. Will not perish. But will have eternal life. God so loved the world.
15:25
That he poured out his wrath. On a substitute. And that substitute as he hung on the cross.
15:32
Said Tetelestai. He said it is finished. Meaning that the wrath of his father.
15:39
Against sinners like us. Has now been turned away.
15:45
That wrath actually has been appeased. It's been satisfied. And God no longer has wrath against us.
15:51
Because Christ bore it in his body on the tree. The righteous for the unrighteous. To bring us to God.
15:59
And so we stand forgiven. In the love of God. The wrath of God is satisfied.
16:04
And that is the meaning of the cross. Isaiah 53. It was the will of the father.
16:10
To crush him. And all we like sheep have gone astray. We've turned each one to his own way.
16:17
But God has laid upon him. The iniquity of us all. It's the meaning of Tetelestai.
16:24
It is finished. Let's see this now in Revelation 15. And it just makes me happy.
16:30
To come to Revelation 15. Because a month ago. Less than a month ago.
16:35
Weeks ago. Michael and I began to. Plan to buy.
16:41
Tetelestai shirts. For people in our congregation to wear. Now you will have to pay the cost of that.
16:48
Or if you need a free one. Just let us know we'll get you one. But the Tetelestai shirt. Was planned.
16:55
Because we want to communicate the gospel. With that one word. And here's the miracle of God.
17:01
It just so happens that. They're arriving today. I'm recording on a Wednesday. And I have to go pick them up from Michael's house.
17:09
And we'll have them here on Sunday. So as you're listening to the recording of this. The shirt should be in the building.
17:15
And here in Revelation 15. By God's providence. Not by coincidence.
17:21
The other half. Of the wrath of God. Is shown. Tetelestai. The finishing of God's wrath.
17:31
Not on the son of God. But in the outpouring of judgment. There are only two ways again.
17:37
That the wrath of God will be satisfied. It is in the death of Jesus Christ. As a substitute for sinners.
17:43
Or as a sinner. Carries the burden of his own sin. Before God. Revelation 15.
17:50
So we come now to this passage. Just let me set the context of Revelation again.
17:56
In chapter 15. We have. The last judgments.
18:01
The bold judgments. Kind of foreboding. In this passage.
18:06
It's setting up for those. Bowls of wrath to be dumped on the earth. We've already had the seals broken.
18:13
And with each of the seals horrifying judgment. And then there were the trumpet judgments. And with each of the seven trumpets.
18:19
There were horrifying judgments. Now the wrath of God will be finished. With the bowls of wrath.
18:25
That's where we are. So we come to. Chapter 15. Verse 1.
18:31
Then I saw another sign. Hearkening back to Revelation 12. Where the first two signs were.
18:37
The sign of the woman Israel. Giving birth to the Messiah into the world. And there stood the dragon.
18:43
Ready to devour the Christ. But the Christ was caught up to heaven. Protected. Ascending to heaven after accomplishing his cross work.
18:51
The devil's raging on earth. And we saw the sign. Of how the devil will be thrown down.
18:58
In Revelation 13. And he'll raise up this antichrist. This beast out of the sea.
19:03
And this beast will raise up an empire. To conquer the world. He'll have his little false prophet.
19:09
They'll be this unholy anti -trinity. The devil. The antichrist. The false prophet.
19:15
Their number will be 666. They'll celebrate anti -Christmas when they kill the two witnesses.
19:22
So you have these first signs. Israel giving birth to the Messiah. The devil. Ready to devour.
19:28
So it says now in Revelation 15. I saw another sign. Referring back to Revelation 12.
19:35
1 and 3. Now what is the sign? Great and amazing. Seven angels.
19:43
With seven plagues. Which are the last. For with them. The wrath of God is finished.
19:53
I am amazed. By that verse. The finishing of the wrath of God.
20:00
In his outpouring of judgment. On earth. Of course it points us back to the word.
20:06
Tetelestai. Because the word finished here is. Etelestai. It has the same root as Tetelestai.
20:13
But it's a different word. Tetelestai is only used. In John 19.
20:18
Verses 28 and 30. In verse 28. It refers to the fulfilling of prophecy.
20:24
Jesus seeing that everything was fulfilled. Said I thirst. And that was to fulfill.
20:31
Psalm 69. 21. So in John 19.
20:37
28 it's the fulfilling of prophecy. It is finished. The prophecies are finished.
20:42
The promises of God have been fulfilled. And then in John 19. 30 Tetelestai means.
20:49
As Jesus gives up the ghost. He says Tetelestai. Indicating that the price.
20:56
Of our sin is paid. In full. And so we as Christians.
21:02
Are able to look at Revelation 15. 1. And not see poison in the watermelon. But to say.
21:10
God has. Put that poisonous. Judgment of sin. Not on me but upon his son.
21:18
And I escaped this. Wrath to come. And it should motivate every one of us.
21:23
To go forth proclaiming. Tetelestai. It is finished.
21:29
Jesus paid it all. All to him I owe. Sin had left. A crimson stain.
21:35
He washed it white as snow. Tetelestai. It is finished. The other way that God's wrath will be finished.
21:43
Is in the judgment of the wicked. Verse 2. I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass.
21:49
This is verse 2 of Revelation 15. I know we're jumping around to some verses. But the main passage today is
21:55
Revelation 15. 1 to 8. We're seeing the wrath of God. Poured out in judgment.
22:02
Verse 2. I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass. Mingled with fire. And also those who had conquered the beast.
22:10
And its image. And the number of its name. Standing beside the sea of glass. With harps of God.
22:17
In their hands. Kathy, isn't that a wonderful thing? That there's harps in heaven? These are harps of God. So something even more special.
22:24
Than the ones that are played on earth. Some people say that when you go to heaven. You're just like an angel floating on a cloud.
22:31
Playing a harp. And they say that mockingly. Well there will be harps in heaven. We will play harps.
22:38
In this case though. These are the ones who have escaped from the beast. Now how did they conquer the beast?
22:45
The Antichrist. Did they conquer him by killing him? Did they kill the one who sought their life?
22:52
They won the war by assassinating the Antichrist? No. They conquer him by dying.
23:01
By not so loving their life that they shrunk back in fear. In Hebrews.
23:08
I think it's the 10th chapter. We're told that my righteous one will live by faith and if he shrinks back
23:17
I will not be pleased with him. We live in a culture today where people who name
23:23
Christ as their savior are shrinking back. They're pulling back from the full proclamation of the unadulterated word of God.
23:34
They're capitulating to the mob. The mob mentality and this concept of social justice.
23:40
I like the way Phil Johnson put it. Phil Johnson is one of the crafters of the statement on social justice.
23:48
He talks about wokeness this way. He said, Wokeness is a nasty religious cult. They routinely declare people guilty for the sins of others.
24:00
Elicit rote confessions and refuse absolution. They have no place for forgiveness.
24:05
No doctrine of atonement and therefore no redemption ever. Your kneeling won't satisfy them.
24:13
We live in a day of apostasy. A turning away from the simple truths of God's word.
24:23
We were foretold that this would happen. In Matthew chapter 24 verse 12 it says, Because of the multiplication of wickedness.
24:30
So you see in the earth today a multiplication of wickedness. The love of many will grow cold.
24:39
Many who once professed to be Christians, their love will grow cold. Second Thessalonians chapter 2 verse 3 says,
24:46
Let no one deceive you in any way for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first.
24:53
Another word for that rebellion is apostasy. People falling away from the Christian faith and the man of lawlessness is revealed the son of destruction.
25:03
Today we are seeing, I think, that apostasy. You look at the European continent which was at one point in history largely a group of professing
25:14
Christians, many of them. Probably a majority would profess faith in Christ. Now there is not even 1 % of the population of Europe that professes their faith in the literal death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and the authority of this book.
25:33
There's been an apostasy on an entire continent. And wokeism, as Phil Johnson calls it, is the
25:41
American but it's also a worldwide phenomenon, apostasy.
25:49
It is a turning away from contentment in Christ. We're told in 1
25:56
Timothy 6 .6, Godliness with contentment is great gain. The Christian gospel teaches that humans are responsible for sin, that our sin is grievous to God, and He has wrath against our sin.
26:16
And so we must humbly come before God in repentance and faith, turning from sin, and find
26:21
Christ to be a perfect Savior. This is the Christian gospel. The gospel of wokeness or social justice teaches that everybody is a victim.
26:35
And the greatest thing you can do is not identify as a responsible sinner, but as a victim of someone else.
26:41
There's always an oppressor class and a victim class. And the victim class must fight for their rights.
26:51
It's the opposite of the Christian gospel of coming humbly in repentance before God and finding joy in being forgiven that the wrath of God has been spared us.
27:03
We've escaped that wrath. Yet this woke -ism, the social justice religious cult, as Phil Johnson calls it, is zealous, like a religion.
27:18
It's a fanaticism that motivates people to think they are doing the will of God, and yet it creates this mob mentality of hatred against those who hold to the testimony.
27:30
And in these last days that opposition to the genuine gospel will become more and more intense.
27:38
And so only those who hold to the faith of Jesus, who hold to the teaching of Jesus regarding sexual ethics and the morality, the purity that you see in Revelation 14 verse 4.
27:55
The purity that you see taught in Romans chapter 1 and all throughout the scripture.
28:01
Those who hold to that and cling to the gospel of Jesus Christ, it says in Revelation 14 verses 12 and 13, the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus, only those who conquer will remain.
28:20
There has to be a conquering of the beast in order to remain a
28:25
Christian. There are those who will fall away from the faith. There is a massive apostasy taking place right now.
28:33
And that's why you see in Revelation 2 and 3, that second section of the book of Revelation, the things that are the assessment of the churches that Jesus gives.
28:44
You see in Revelation 2 and 3 that in each case, all seven churches, the one who conquers is the one who inherits the promise of that particular church.
28:58
Whether it be a crown or a name or a stone or whatever, the promised blessing that relates to heaven and eternal life is to be given.
29:08
It is for the one who conquers. I'll give you some references on that. Revelation 2 7, 2 11, 2 17, 2 26, 3 5, 3 12, 3 21.
29:19
You get the pattern, the one who conquers. And so again, we're back to Revelation 15 2. Who are these?
29:25
These are the ones who conquered by holding fast their testimony even when the mob came at them.
29:32
They refused to take the mark of the beast 666 on their head or their hand.
29:38
They refused to bow to that animated image which supernaturally was able to talk to them.
29:46
They were rather willing to lay down their lives for the sake of the gospel.
29:52
They would not kneel to the beast. They would not kneel to the
30:00
Antichrist. Godliness with contentment is great gain. Phil Johnson, who wrote those words that I just read, he's one of many of the crafters of the statement on social justice along with John MacArthur and James White, Tom Askell, Josh Boyce down in Atlanta, Votie Bauckham.
30:20
These men are trustworthy teachers and that statement is a trustworthy guide. You can find trustworthy teachers on that statement.
30:26
If you just click signers, the original signers are generally people that you can trust. But Phil Johnson lives what he preaches.
30:35
He wrote this a couple days ago. I haven't mentioned it here yet, but my birthday gift this year was a cancer diagnosis.
30:44
Prostate cancer. It's an early stage and should be treatable. And frankly, I could still die of old age or pretty much anything else before the cancer gets me.
30:53
Nevertheless, it's one of many reminders that all flesh is like grass and the flower thereof.
30:59
And when you really understand the human lifespan, it's striking how little time we have to make the most of it.
31:06
I have no complaints. This is amazing. Phil Johnson just got diagnosed with cancer and his reaction is to say,
31:14
I have no complaints. It is like the saints of Revelation 15 too.
31:21
They conquered by dying. Phil is not afraid to die. I have no complaints.
31:27
It's actually quite a helpful birthday gift to get at the age of 67. How so? It's a potent reminder of what
31:34
Moses wrote. The years of our life are 70, or even by reason of strength 80, yet their span is but toil and trouble.
31:43
They are soon gone and we fly away. And I echo Moses' prayer in response to that.
31:49
So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. So I read this to transition into verse 3 and 4 because Moses is introduced there and I think that the author here, the song of Moses, is drawing upon Psalm 90, the song of Moses, which
32:09
Phil Johnson cited just now. The years of our life are 70, or even by reason of strength 80, yet their span is but toil and trouble.
32:18
They are soon gone and we fly away. So teach us to number our days.
32:26
Revelation 15, 3 and 4. And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the
32:35
Lamb saying, Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty. Just and true are your ways,
32:42
O King of the Nations, who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name.
32:48
For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.
32:55
First of all, in verses 3 and 4, it's the song of Moses. Moses is a servant in God's household, but the
33:04
Lamb is the builder of the house. Hebrews 3. They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, the song of the
33:14
Lamb. The song is to the Lamb, worthy is the Lamb, we saw earlier in Revelation 5, but it's the song of Moses.
33:22
Moses is a picture of a passionate believer. The picture of one who praises
33:28
God for his wondrous deeds. And as you look at the parallels here, the who will not fear in verse 4, that parallels to Psalm 90, the
33:37
Psalm of Moses. I think it's verse 11 where he says, who will not fear?
33:42
There's a parallel there. It's probably why it's called the song of Moses. But in any case, Moses is this picture of passion for God.
33:51
Willingness to suffer for God. To suffer with God's people rather than to be counted a member of Pharaoh's court and the passing pleasures of this life.
34:03
The passion of Moses is seen again and again and he's a passionate Yahweh worshipper. There are four movements in this song.
34:13
And again, the posture of the one who is a Christian is contentment and joy.
34:19
We saw it in the 144 ,000 in Revelation 14. They sing a new song. Moses sings a song.
34:25
If your heart is not bursting with praise to God because he turned away wrath from you on account of the
34:32
Son, you are not yet grasping how deep and how wide is the love of God in Christ Jesus.
34:41
We should be filled with joy. Here are the four movements. One, greatness. Two, goodness.
34:48
Three, holiness. And four, revelation. First, greatness.
34:56
Moses, the song of Moses will stress how great God is. Great and amazing are your deeds,
35:02
O Lord God, the Almighty. In this part of the passage we see a focus on the greatness of God.
35:11
When you look out at the world that he created from sunsets in Florida.
35:16
I love sitting on the beach in Florida and seeing the sunset just paint the sky and saying how great is our
35:22
God. The Chris Tomlin song just bursts from you when you see a sunset. Or when you look at the mountains.
35:30
Maybe you've been to the Alps. I've been to the Swiss Alps and seen the glory of the mountain range.
35:38
This God who created this. Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God, the
35:43
Almighty. Secondly, you see the song of Moses, the genuine
35:49
Christian here, which is what these were, the ones who were killed by the
35:54
Antichrist. They celebrate the goodness of God. Just and true are your ways,
36:01
O King of the Nations. He's good. He's just. He's true. That's how he moves.
36:07
That's his way, O King of the Nations. What has he done for the nations? Well, for every tongue and people and ethnic group, every nation on earth,
36:17
God has given his son that whomever believes in him will be saved.
36:23
And that will come from every nation. The nations, the ethnos, will come to the
36:30
Lamb of God to worship him. Not every individual, but members of every ethnic group will come.
36:39
He is good. How do we know that he's good? Because he wore on his head a crown of thorns.
36:47
That crown of our mockery as people called out to him, you saved others.
36:52
Why don't you save yourself? You're a deliverer. Why don't you deliver yourself? Come down from the cross as they mocked and as the soldiers gambled at his feet.
37:02
He prayed, Father, forgive them. They know not what they do. And he prayed, it is finished.
37:08
He called, it is finished. Declaring that he has taken the wrath of God from those who would believe in him.
37:16
He is good. Third, though, notice the fear of God that should come from his holiness.
37:23
This speaks to the distance. The word holy in verse 4 means set apart.
37:29
He's different from ordinary people. He, unlike us, is sinless.
37:35
He's different. He's holy. He is God in heaven and here am I on earth.
37:41
So I'll let my words be few. Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name?
37:46
For you alone are holy. There is a distance between the holy
37:52
God and sinful men. So we should fear and yet we'll come to him to worship because he has met that distance in the cross.
38:02
All nations will come and worship you for your righteous acts have been revealed through the scripture, not just the wrath of God, but all aspects of God's character and nature and the acts that he has accomplished in the dying and rising of the
38:17
Son of God for sinners, these things have been revealed. So how can we help but praise?
38:26
And the word I would use to describe these acts and the greatness and the goodness and the holiness, the revelation of God, the word that I would use is telestai.
38:36
So I wrote a song of Jeff about it. My song goes like this.
38:42
Telestai of greatness speaks by sunset streaks and mountain peaks and days of rest to mark the weeks.
38:54
Telestai of goodness cries through sad goodbyes and conquered lies and piercing thorns above his eyes.
39:04
Telestai means canceled debt where bloody sweat meets soldier's bet and God declares the distance met.
39:14
Telestai counts us unblemished, not sins diminished or left unpunished, but paid in full for it is finished.
39:24
The word telestai encapsulates this teaching that it is finished.
39:29
Christ has borne the wrath in full and so we should sing. How can we help but sing? And then finally, verses five to eight, we see this foreboding scene where the bowls of wrath are about to be poured out.
39:44
After this I looked and the sanctuary of the tent of witness in heaven was opened and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues clothed in pure bright linen with golden sashes around their chests and one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.
40:22
All will not be well in heaven until the wrath of God is finally poured out on the wicked.
40:29
Psalm 1 the way of the wicked will perish. God will be glorified.
40:36
He will be vindicated in his righteousness and in his holiness either in the death of his son or in the punishment of the wicked.
40:44
And here it is a terrifying scene. Smoke filling the temple. No one can enter until this is accomplished.
40:53
The wrath of God must be finished. And so in closing this passage,
41:00
Revelation 15 is about the wrath of God and because of that many people will reject it.
41:07
They will throw this watermelon away because they can't swallow that.
41:12
They can't believe that God would judge what they consider to be a good person.
41:19
But none of us are good. None of us are righteous. Instead we are all sinners. We all go astray.
41:27
God has given the ultimate gift in his goodness. He gave the gift of his one and only son.
41:34
And so the wrath of God is satisfied in him. And how do we close? We should sing. We should be a people that write songs of joy to the one who died.
41:45
We should be a people that sing like Moses. Sing of his attributes.
41:51
Sing of his greatness in painting that sunset sky and making those mountains and those farthest stars and the little baby who giggles to see the greatness of God in creation and then to see the goodness in God in how he's moved into our world to rescue us and yet to fear him to turn away from sin in fear of the holy
42:16
God believing that he alone can save. That we cannot come to him by our own merits.
42:22
That our righteous deeds even are like filthy rags before him. To come in faith and then to trust that revelation that it is finished.
42:33
Tetelestai. Sing about it. Make songs to him. Sing like the saved and then go out boldly preaching saying
42:41
Tetelestai. A few challenges. Get that t -shirt and wear it once a week. That's my challenge to Cornerstone.
42:48
You're part of this church. Get the t -shirt and wear it around town at least once a week.
42:53
Be ready to tell people what it means or even initiate that conversation.
42:59
Say, hey, do you have any idea what the shirt means? Why not? It'll start the conversation.
43:05
Perhaps you might want to post the Tetelestai poem that I just read. It's in your notes. Put that on your
43:11
Facebook feed. See if you get any comments that you can interact about the gospel around that. I'm going to do that.
43:18
Maybe you email it to friends. Maybe you get some tracks and you go through your neighborhood and you leave a track at every door just under the welcome mat.
43:30
Proclaim Tetelestai. It is finished. Preach the gospel. Remember last week we talked about the two harvests. There is a harvest of salvation and that's the period we're in now.
43:41
Matthew chapter 9 verse 37 and 38. It's ripe but the workers are few so go out bringing in the harvest because there's coming a harvest of judgment where the grapes of wrath will be trampled in the winepress of the wrath of God.
43:57
And here we see again the bowls of wrath will be poured out but Tetelestai, it is finished.
44:03
His wrath is satisfied for those who believe in him. So let's pray. And I would ask you if you don't yet believe in Christ that you call on him now to save you.
44:15
Ask him to reveal himself to you as he did to Moses as he did in all the scriptures in the book of John chapter 19.
44:23
Maybe just go read the book of John that you would believe it's what it was written for. And to those of us who do believe let's let this summer be a summer of harvesting and let's pray to that end.
44:37
Oh God, we pray for those who have not yet come under your mercy. We know that wrath abides over them and yet you're offering mercy to them.
44:49
I pray in Jesus name that they would believe the good news, that they would repent of their sin and turn to Christ and so be forgiven.
45:00
I pray for all of us who are saved, who do have the covering of Jesus' blood that we would persevere to the end.
45:11
That we would not be led astray by the majority opinion, by the mob mentality, the course of this world,
45:20
Ephesians 2 1 and 2.
45:25
We pray Lord God in Jesus name that you would send us out preaching to tell us die, it is finished.
45:32
And I pray that Lord from this day on every Christian who heard this sermon will remember that the gospel is summarized in this word to tell us die.
45:44
And they would go and learn what it means that it is finished, that all the prophecies are fulfilled and that Christ has propitiated the wrath of God on our behalf.
45:55
And so we say thank you and so we sing praise and we ask that you would fill us with joy now in the
46:03
Holy Spirit because of Jesus. In His name we pray. Amen. Christ alone what is our only confidence that our souls to Him belong who holds our days within His hand what comes apart from His command and what will keep us to the end the love of Christ in which we stand
46:58
Oh sing Hallelujah our hope springs eternal
47:08
Oh sing Hallelujah now and ever we confess
47:17
Christ our hope in life and death a truth can calm the troubled soul
47:33
God is good God is good where is
47:38
His grace and goodness known in our grave
47:45
Redeemer's blood who holds our faith when fears arise who stands above the stormy trial who sends the waves that bring us now unto the shore the rock of Christ Oh sing
48:08
Hallelujah our hope springs eternal
48:15
Oh sing Hallelujah now and ever we confess
48:39
Christ our hope in life Christ He lives and what reward will heaven bring everlasting life within there we will rise to meet the
48:58
Lord then sin and death will be destroyed and we will feast in endless joy when
49:09
Christ is ours forevermore forevermore springs eternal
49:25
Oh sing Christ our hope in life and death
49:37
Oh sing Hallelujah springs eternal
