And so we responded to the popular argument used by Mormons to say that there are many gods, and that's from the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians chapter 8, where Paul says there be gods many and lords many.

We already demonstrated. If you just go to that text yourself, you'll see the danger of proof texting.

Deuteronomy is very similar, the passage that was in the question, the same thing.

Yeah, so I'm going to actually, let's unpack that. So if you look, let's jump to that one, because the Psalm 82 one is a little more explanation.

Deuteronomy Teaches That the Lord Is God of Gods and Lord of Lords

Yeah, Deuteronomy chapter 10, starting at verse 16. Circumcised, therefore, the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.

He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing. So naturally, if you take the testimony of Scripture, Old and New Testament, we know that there's only one God.

So we know what this passage is not saying is that God is somehow rivaled in his equality in some way, that there are other gods actually out there. Psalm 90, I believe it's Psalm 95 that says, all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

So false gods, again, would be the context. And in this particular contextual place in Deuteronomy, God is testifying that he's not like in comparison to these other false gods that have been substituted in his place, right?

He's not partial in the justice that he gives. He's incomparable in terms of his sovereignty, his wielding of the future, his lordship, his ownership over his people. These other false gods don't have any claim of ownership over the nation of Israel.

God does, because he's the only God.

Right, exactly. Excellent. And I would say context, Deuteronomy chapter 10, comes after Deuteronomy chapter 4 and chapter 6.

Yeah, right.

Deuteronomy 4 and the Shema: There Is No Other Besides Him

Chapter 4, verse 35, To you it was shown that you might know that the Lord is God, Yahweh is God, there is no other besides him. And then verse 39, Know therefore today and lay it to your heart that the Lord, Yahweh, is God in heaven, above and on the earth below, there is no other.

And then, of course, Deuteronomy chapter 6, verse 4, The Shema, hear us whereof the Lord our God the Lord is one, Ichud, there is only one God.

Well, of this earth.

Excuse you.

Oh, yeah, they'll say exactly. Of this earth is what Mormons will often say, but the Bible teaches right here. It's in the heavens above and on the earth below. There is no other. And he says he doesn't even know of any other gods.
