00:16
Well, a good Wednesday morning to you. Today, in our Bible reading plan, we're reading in Zechariah chapters 1 and 2.
00:23
So we're beginning the next to the last book in the Old Testament, and also
00:28
Revelation chapter 15. In a moment, I want to get to chapter 15 of Revelation, look at a couple of verses there, but we're looking forward to celebrating the advent, the first advent of the
00:41
Savior. It's coming Monday, Christmas Day. Of course, our church will be having
00:46
Christmas Eve service. On Christmas Eve, we'll be having morning services.
00:53
This Friday night, we're having a Christmas candlelight service at 7 o 'clock. All of this is designed to help us have a good focus, a right focus, on the birth of our
01:05
Savior, the first advent of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is coming again.
01:10
There is a second advent, and in Revelation 15, John is given this incredible vision of something that takes place related to the second advent of the
01:26
Lord Jesus Christ. He sees this great vision of…let me just read it for you.
01:34
Chapter 15, verse 2, he says, I saw in this vision something like a sea of glass mingled with fire.
01:45
By the way, there's a key word there. I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire.
01:52
He did not see a sea of glass mingled with fire.
01:57
What he saw was like a sea of glass mingled with fire. What was it that he saw?
02:05
He couldn't even tell us what it was. He could only tell us what it was like.
02:12
He sees this, what looks like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and he said, and those who have the victory over the beast, these are victorious followers of Jesus.
02:24
They have had victory over his image, over his mark, and over the number of his name. They are standing on this sea of glass having harps of gold.
02:36
What's with the harps of gold? He sees this multitude of people. Can you imagine this scene?
02:42
Can you envision it in your own mind's eye? Have you ever been to the shores of Lake Michigan on a very calm, clear day?
02:55
There's hardly a ripple in the water. You can see way out into the lake, but you can't see the other side.
03:04
You can't see on the horizon the other shore. It's just like water, the sea, everywhere.
03:12
Can you imagine that on this sea there is this innumerable host of followers of Jesus?
03:21
All of them have these harps of gold in their hands, and they're singing a song.
03:28
I want you to notice what they're singing. Verse 3 says, they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the lamb.
03:38
They're singing the song of Moses, the song of the lamb. Why would they be singing the song of Moses?
03:46
Let's stop and think about it for a minute. When did Moses write the song of Moses?
03:53
It was just after the children of Israel had been brought through the
03:58
Red Sea. The Lord had given them this incredible victory of deliverance, of salvation, from the beast of Pharaoh and his army, who wanted to swallow them up and destroy them.
04:20
God brought them through the sea, and when they turned around and watched as the army approached, the sea was brought back upon the armies of Pharaoh, and they all perished.
04:33
The Lord brought a great victory. As a consequence of that, in response to that,
04:41
Moses wrote this song, this hymn of worship to the Lord for the great victory that he has given.
04:49
Here are these people who have had victory over the beast, and they're looking back over that beast in his corpse, if you will.
04:58
They're standing on this, what looks like a sea of fire, and they are singing the song of Moses.
05:08
What they sing starts out with an exaltation of the Lord, where they say, Great and marvelous are your works,
05:15
Lord God Almighty. How great and how marvelous is it that our God has given us the victory over this enemy who would destroy us.
05:26
They go on to extol him for the justice and the truthfulness of his ways, and acknowledge that he is the king of the nations.
05:36
Then ask this rhetorical question, who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name?
05:43
The answer to that is, no one. All shall eventually come to the place of fearing the
05:50
Lord Jesus and glorifying his name, because he alone is holy.
05:58
Then it says this, all nations shall come and worship before you, for your judgments have been manifested.
06:06
There's coming a day, the second advent of the Lord Jesus, there's coming a day when every nation on this planet will bow down before King Jesus and acknowledge that he is the
06:21
King of kings and the Lord of lords. Think about that. Think about the nations of our world right now.
06:28
How many of them are so self -exalting and vaunting in their pride and their hatred and their anger against God and against God's people.
06:43
Every single one of them will bow down before King Jesus and worship him.
06:50
As we celebrate this coming weekend, the first advent of the
06:57
Lord Jesus, let's also remember that Jesus is coming again and look forward to his second advent as well.
07:07
Our Father and our God, we are grateful for the confidence, the hope and the promise of the soon coming of our
07:15
Savior, King Jesus. We look forward to that day. Even so, come,
07:21
Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen. Have a wonderful rest of your
