02:57: It is good to see everyone here gathered together.
03:00: I'm going to read the first portion of this, and we're going to sing.
04:21: Then I'll read another portion, and we'll sing again.
04:23: And then we're all in Chapter 5 today.
04:28: I want to invite you to stand with us as we read.
04:33: We're going to read again from Chapter 5 verses to 11.
04:40: Chapter 5.
04:46: Can you unmute the pulpit, please? Yes.
04:52: Now it's on.
04:54: Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
05:02: Through Him, we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
05:12: More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.
05:21: And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
05:30: For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
05:35: For one will scarcely die for a righteous person, though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die.
05:41: But God shows His love for us, and that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
05:49: Since therefore we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God.
05:57: For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life.
06:07: More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
06:15: May God add His blessing to the reading and to the hearing of His word.
06:19: As we continue to stand and sing out together, we're going to sing the song Forever.
06:38: Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King.
06:43: His love endures forever.
06:47: For He is good, He is above all things.
06:51: His love endures forever.
06:53: Sing praise, sing praise.
07:03: With a mighty hand and outstretched arm, His love endures forever.
07:11: For the life that's been reborn, His love endures forever.

07:35: Forever God is faithful.
07:39: Forever God is strong.
07:43: Forever God is with us.

07:57: Rising to the setting sun, His love endures forever.
08:03: And by the grace of God, we will carry on.

08:32: Forever God is strong.
08:36: Forever God is with us.

09:22: And this is a very, very important anthropological passage because it tells us about the nature of man and why we come into this world as sinners in need of salvation.
09:36: Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.
09:46: For sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.
09:52: Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
10:03: But the free gift is not like the trespass.
10:06: For if many died through one man's trespass, much more had the grace of God and the free gift by that grace of that one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for many.
10:16: And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin.
10:19: For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification.
10:30: For if because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
10:46: Amen.
10:47: Let us stand together and let us sing together.
10:49: We're going to sing now our second song of the day, Creating Me a Clean Heart.
11:50: Holy Spirit from me, restore unto me the joy of thy salvation and renew a right spirit within me.
12:09: This song is a song of prayer.
12:13: David said these words after he had sinned, and this is his prayer of contrition.
12:19: So I want us to sing again, and I want us to sing as if it were a prayer.
12:23: That's what singing is.
12:24: It's corporate prayer.
12:26: It's prayer together as the body of Christ.
12:29: If you know the song, I would even encourage you, close your eyes and pray this song together.

13:08: Cast me not away from thy presence, O Lord, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.

13:55: Paul begins with the word, therefore.
13:58: Therefore tells us this is the culmination of the theology and the doctrine that he has just explained.
14:06: Listen to what he says.
14:11: Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
14:25: For as by one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.
14:35: Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness, leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
14:51: Amen.
14:52: Let's stand.
14:53: This time we're going to sing a very famous, very common hymn, but one that certainly is meaningful, especially if you know the history behind it.
15:04: The man who wrote this song wrote it after losing his children to a terrible tragedy, and he looks to God and he says, Even still, because I have God, it is well with my soul.
15:43: When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.
16:17: It is well, it is well with my soul.
16:29: It is well, it is well with my soul.
16:43: Though Satan should buffet, Though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

25:22: Regarding the persecuted church all around the world.
25:25: There are people and churches in distant lands that we will never see this side of heaven that are suffering for the name of the Lord Jesus Christ today.
25:35: And we want to always be lifting up the persecuted church.
25:39: And so we add that each week as a reminder.
25:43: I want to also pray for members in our body.
25:46: I want to continue to pray for Sharon.
25:47: I want to continue to pray for Debbie Davis.
25:52: And for the family of Cindy Parker.
25:54: Those of you who knew her, were friends with her.
25:57: Used to be a member of our church years ago.
25:59: She did pass away very recently.
26:02: We want to keep everyone updated about things like that.
26:05: So please pray for her family.
26:08: And then of course you see below that, we want to pray for the Gomez family.
26:12: Jerry's very dear friend.
26:16: Has passed.
26:17: And there's a lot going on with that situation.
26:20: Might be some traveling involved.
26:22: And so we want to pray for them.
26:25: The women's ministry at Set Free is something we continue to pray for.
26:30: There's been some developments with that this week.
26:33: That are some things that need to be prayed about.
26:37: And Set Free ministry as a whole.
26:41: As well as also, you notice at the bottom it says family and friends that are lost.
26:45: That's not just a small thing.
26:47: That is a huge thing.
26:48: And something that we should always be praying for.
26:52: That our family and friends would come to know Jesus Christ.
26:54: Not that they'd be like us.
26:55: Because heaven forbid that there need to be more of me.
26:58: But that they might become like Christ.
27:00: Because that is the most important thing in the world.
27:03: The Bible says that we are predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ.
27:10: And so we want to pray that for others as well.
27:14: I'm going to give you a few seconds to pray on your own.
27:17: And then I'll lead us in a time of corporate prayer.
27:20: And then we'll move on with our sermon this morning.
27:45: Our Father and our God we come to you in Jesus name.
27:51: And Lord we come to you this morning.
27:55: Because you deserve our worship.
27:58: And we know that prayer is an act of worship.
28:03: It's demonstrating our dependency upon you.
28:07: And Lord we are completely and utterly dependent upon you.
28:11: For everything in our life.
28:13: Not just the big things Lord.
28:15: But for everything in our life.
28:18: We come and we lay everything before you.
28:20: And we say we would have nothing.
28:22: We would not have air in our lungs.
28:25: We would not have a heart beating within our chest.
28:28: If it were not for your divine sanction oh God.
28:32: If it were not for your divine decree.
28:34: These things would not be so.
28:37: For you oh Lord are the sovereign of all things.
28:41: And the word of God tells us.
28:43: That you are God and there is no other.
28:47: You are God and there is none like you.
28:50: So when we pray to you.
28:51: We're praying not to another man or someone like ourselves.
28:55: But we're praying to the God who created all things.
28:58: Including man and animals and trees and birds and fish.
29:03: The world around us was fashioned by your hand.
29:09: And it continues to move by your divine command.
29:14: And Lord God were you to remove your hand for even a moment.
29:19: Not only would it cease to move.
29:22: But it would cease to exist.
29:24: For in you we live and move and have our being.
29:28: Our very being is wrapped up in you.
29:33: Lord only the fool would think himself independent.
29:37: For we are utterly dependent upon you.
29:40: Only the fool would think himself to need you not.
29:44: For Lord we need you for everything.
29:49: Lord we know there are people who go throughout their lives.
29:52: Day in and day out.
29:53: Some of them very close to us.
29:54: Some of them in our very own households.
29:56: Who go in day and night with no desire for God.
30:02: No desire for submission to Jesus Christ.
30:06: No desire or love for him.
30:12: And Lord our heart breaks for them.
30:15: Our heart breaks for the lost.
30:18: Our heart breaks for those who are outside of Christ.
30:27: So we lift up our family and friends to you today Lord.
30:35: We pray that you would give us the boldness to share the gospel with them.
30:41: Pray that Lord we would do so in a way that is loving and winsome.
30:45: Not arrogant and proud.
30:50: That we would rest upon the word of God and not our own creativity.
30:59: Lord may it be that everything that we do is through you.
31:09: Father as we come to you this morning.
31:11: There are so many things on our hearts.
31:14: Our lost loved ones being just a part of the things that are difficult.
31:20: And things that we struggle with.
31:23: I know that even now Lord.
31:25: There are those who are here who know you and trust you.
31:28: But they are having struggles in their mind and in their heart.
31:31: They are having struggles focusing on what we are doing in worship.
31:34: Because their minds are so preoccupied with the world.
31:39: Their minds are so preoccupied with financial struggles.
31:43: Their minds are preoccupied with marital struggles.
31:45: Their minds are preoccupied with physical struggles.
31:50: Lord it is so easy for our minds to get led away.
31:57: Oh God please help us to focus on you today.
32:03: We know that one day Lord your word tells us we will see Christ as he is.
32:08: And we will be as he is.
32:09: We will be given that glorified body.
32:12: And until that great beatific vision comes.
32:15: We will forever have a divide.
32:18: And not be able to see you as you are.
32:20: But Lord God help us to in our hearts desire to see you.
32:27: Help us desire as brother Mike said earlier.
32:29: To see your will be done in this world.
32:34: Jesus taught us to pray.
32:38: Your will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
32:44: So we pray Lord for our world.
32:47: We pray for all of the dirty and underhanded politics that happen in our nation.
32:55: We pray that you would bring revival into that arena.
33:01: And that you would see men and women saved of Christ and known of God.
33:04: And that they would come and be true statesmen.
33:12: But Lord we know it doesn't begin in the White House.
33:14: It begins in the church house.
33:18: Any true revival will happen first in the pulpit.
33:21: Not in the senate.
33:25: So God I pray for the churches in our land.
33:27: I pray that they would preach the gospel.
33:30: That they wouldn't preach silliness.
33:32: That they wouldn't preach games.
33:33: That they wouldn't preach false doctrines.
33:38: Lord that you might break the teeth of the false teacher.
33:41: That he might not speak against you.
33:48: That men of God would mount pulpits around our nation.
33:53: And preach the gospel.
33:57: There will be no change if there is no gospel preached.
34:04: I thank you for the men in this church that desire to proclaim the gospel.
34:10: I thank you for sharing with those men the desires that they have.
34:17: And Lord I'm so thankful for them.
34:20: And I'm thankful for this church.
34:21: I'm thankful for the men of God that we have in this church.
34:24: The fathers who lead their families well and teach them about Christ.
34:29: For the mothers who love their husbands and love their children.
34:33: And nurture them in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
34:37: Father for those who aren't married.
34:39: But continue to be good examples of steadfastness and faithfulness among the body of Christ.
34:45: And serve the church well.
34:47: I thank you for them.
34:49: For Lord they're not just serving the church.
34:51: They're serving Christ.
34:52: For the church is the body of Christ.
34:59: Lord we lift up to you those who are sick among us.
35:04: Lord you know who they are.
35:05: And you know the situations better than we do.
35:07: And you know what is needed.
35:12: I pray oh God.
35:15: That with each person that has this need.
35:21: Lord I would pray that you would bring perfect healing.
35:26: Immediate and miraculous.
35:31: While at the same time Lord I know that you use means.
35:37: You use medicine.
35:38: You use doctors.
35:39: You use these things as means.
35:41: And we're thankful for that.
35:44: Lord sometimes it is your choice not to heal.
35:46: And we will give you thanks for that as well.
35:51: Because Lord you know better than we do.
35:55: You're perfect and we are.
35:58: We are so myopic.
36:00: We are so short sighted.
36:02: We can't even see to the end of the week.
36:06: And Lord you have seen to the end of our days.
36:11: Help us to trust in you.
36:14: Help us to find our hope in you.
36:19: Help us to be comforted by you.
36:24: Lord all these things we pray.
36:27: And we ask them all in Jesus name.
36:29: And now Lord as we move to the time of the sermon.
36:32: I pray that you would keep me from error.
36:35: For God I am a fallible man.
36:39: And only by your spirit will the people of God be taught.
36:42: And the lost be drawn to you.
36:45: And through you so I pray that your Holy Spirit would be the master of this moment.
36:50: That I would decrease and Christ would increase.
36:54: And that in our time of study you would be glorified.
36:58: In Christ's name and for his sake.
37:02: Amen.
37:29: There that should work.
37:30: I want to take out your Bibles and turn with me to the book of Genesis.
37:37: And we're going to be in Genesis chapter 1.
37:39: You can take me way down.
37:40: I am way too loud.
37:45: We had to readjust everything when we put all the new stuff up on the chancel.
37:48: So forgive us for slight technical difficulties this morning.
37:54: The title of today's sermon is Darwin versus Moses.
37:58: And I know that we've been studying the book of Genesis now for five months maybe.
38:04: Four or five months.
38:04: And I know that I have mentioned the subject of evolution on several occasions.
38:11: But I have not yet really dealt with why we would say it is absolutely unbiblical, untenable.
38:22: And I'm even going to point out the fact that it's even unscientific.
38:26: And so today we're going to be looking at that.
38:28: I have a little bit of a...
38:31: It's not an apology, but it is a little bit of an issue though with the sermon.
38:36: I don't know if I'm going to get through it all in one shot.
38:40: Because there's so much I want to say.
38:43: And so at some point, if I feel like it's just going to need another week, I'm just going to stop and pray.
38:48: I'll land the plane and we'll pick it up next week.
38:50: Because I don't want to rush the subject.
38:52: But at the same time, I don't want to belabor it either.
38:56: I've really poured over this and thought about it a lot this week.
38:59: And there's just so much that I feel like I want to say.
39:04: As I think it was Brother Dan yesterday said, we're not going anywhere.
39:07: We can always come back next week.
39:08: So we'll see how it goes.
39:11: And I know some of you, oh, just preach until you get done, Pastor.
39:16: Just keep going.
39:17: I know you say that.
39:19: And maybe, huh? Yeah, maybe there's genuine in that.
39:24: But I have an internal clock too.
39:26: You know, I have that sort of moment in my brain where it just says, that's enough.
39:31: And so it's just in my heart, I just sort of know that I've gotten my point across.
39:37: For the past two weeks, we have been looking at Genesis 1, 26 and 27 on the image of God.
39:44: And we have noted several things about the image of God.
39:47: Last week, we looked at the practical application of the image of God.
39:51: And we looked at what it means to be made in the image of God.
39:54: Who is made in the image of God? We've determined based on the Bible, not just opinion, but we've determined from Scripture, that all men and women are made in the image of God.
40:05: We all bear the image of God.
40:06: And this image of God is what separates us and makes us distinct from all other created beings.
40:17: The image of God is the thing that separates us from even the animals that look the most like us.
40:25: The apes look similar in the way that they're formed to us.
40:29: But they're in no way similar in regard to the image of God.
40:33: Man is so distinct and so unique among the created beings.
40:38: And we see that in the 26th and 27th verse of Genesis chapter 1.
40:44: But today we're going to step back and ask this question.
40:48: Is it possible that man evolved to the point that he is now? Is it possible that we actually did start out as a simple cell, and grew and varied into different types of beings, and that man is just the last in a very long tree of life that began with a single, simple cell? There are entire denominations that believe in something called biblical evolution.
41:23: Or EC, which is evolutionary creationism.
41:31: Now they would say, yes, we're made in the image of God.
41:34: But what they would say is that mankind evolved from lower life forms, and we are all related to that one simple, single cell that began everything.
41:46: And that it wasn't until man evolved to the point where he is now, that God imprinted upon him the image of God.
41:56: So in that respect, the image of God is not an essential part of man's nature, but it's a late addition to the nature of one creature chosen out of many creatures that evolved through a long tree of variation.
42:11: So, that's the point.
42:18: Evolutionary creationists would say this.
42:21: Man is not made in the image of God by nature.
42:26: But the image of God was placed upon one part of God's creation that evolved after millions of years of change.
42:36: What we're going to see today is the Bible does not support that in any way, shape, or form.
42:42: The Bible does not support the evolution of the human species.
42:46: In fact, the Bible doesn't support the evolution of any species, and we're going to see that as we go.
42:51: But the Bible specifically and particularly does not support the evolution of the human species.
42:59: In fact, the Bible goes to extraordinary lengths, and we're going to see this, extraordinary lengths to show that we did not evolve naturally, but that we were created specially by Almighty God.
43:15: So, let's stand and let's read our verse.
43:18: Today, it's just verse 27.
43:22: We always stand for scripture, give it its honor and reverence when we're getting ready to study a passage, and this is our passage for the day.
43:29: Genesis 1 and 27.
43:36: So, God created man in his own image.
43:38: In the image of God, he created him.
43:43: Male and female, he created them.
43:47: May God add his blessing to the reading and to the hearing of his word.
43:50: May God write its eternal truths upon our heart, and may God keep me from error as I preach.
43:57: Amen.
43:59: You may be seated.
44:03: Sometimes we read long passages, and sometimes we have just one short passage, and today we had just that little short passage.
44:09: Now, in the midst of today's message, I'm going to be using a visual aid.
44:13: I'm going to be using a whiteboard.
44:14: There's a lot that I'm going to be doing, so hopefully you'll be able to follow along and it will make sense.
44:21: In 1925, Tennessee state legislature banned the teaching of evolution in public schools.
44:27: Can you imagine? In 1925, the state legislature of Tennessee, our neighbor two states to the north, banned the teaching of evolution in the classroom.
44:44: The new law made it illegal for instructors to discuss any theory that denies the story of divine creation of man as taught in the Bible, or to teach that man has descended from a lower order or animal.
44:58: Think about that.
45:00: The law came in and said, you can't teach evolution.
45:04: You cannot teach this in the school.
45:08: In fact, you must teach the divine theory of origins as it's given in the Bible, and you can't teach anything that would say that man evolved from a lower order of life or some kind of an animal.
45:29: Boy, how things have changed in a hundred years.
45:32: I mean, really, that was almost five years from now, we're going to celebrate the 100th anniversary of what's known as the Scopes Trial.
45:41: Because what resulted out of this, how many of you ever heard of the Scopes Trial? A few of you.
45:46: The Scopes Trial was what resulted out of that legislation because when the legislation happened, it said you can't teach evolution.
45:54: Well, the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU, they've been around a long time.
46:01: The ACLU, representing John Scopes, sued to overturn the act.
46:10: The creationist law was upheld.
46:12: The law was upheld.
46:13: They can't teach evolution.
46:15: However, that trial became the flashpoint or the watershed moment of history where this issue came to the fore and it became part of the popular discussion and the debate.
46:34: And, of course, many things have changed in the last hundred years to the point that it's almost reversed now where, as before, you could not teach evolution.
46:41: It was against the law.
46:42: Now you can't teach even intelligent design.
46:45: That's against the law.
46:47: So it's gone from one extreme to the other.
46:52: You might have heard the names Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan.
46:59: Those were the two men who, in that Scopes Trial, had the very important back and forth where they debated the subject.
47:10: And I want to quote to you something from the files from this event.
47:16: An area of questioning involved the book of Genesis, including questions such as if Eve was actually created from Adam's rib.
47:23: Where did Cain get his wife? And how many people lived in ancient Egypt? Darrow, who was on the side of the evolutionists, Darrow used these examples to suggest that the stories of the Bible could not be scientific and should not be used in teaching science with Darrow telling Bryan, You insult every man of science and learning in the world because he does not believe in your fool religion.
47:49: Bryan's declaration in response was, The reason I'm answering is not for the benefit of the superior court.
47:54: It is to keep these gentlemen from saying I was afraid to meet them and let them question me.
47:58: And I want the Christian world to know that any atheist, agnostic, unbeliever can question me any time as to my belief in God and I will answer him.
48:06: Amen.
48:06: That's pretty strong.
48:08: So these two guys, but this is all happening in the courtroom.
48:10: This is all part of the courtroom transcripts.
48:13: You can go back and read them.
48:14: So these two guys, they had it out.
48:17: And the evolutionists have always considered this to be a win for them.
48:21: Even though they lost in court, they consider Clarence Darrow to be their hero and he won the day with his witty and powerful banter that he used and his arguments that he used.
48:36: So the Scopes Trial is a major event in American history in regard to the subject of whether or not we should be teaching evolution in schools, whether or not we should be teaching this as part of our primary education system.
48:50: But the Scopes Trial was not the only of its kind.
48:52: In 1965, Arkansas had this law that dated back to the 20s, forbidding the teaching of evolutionary biology.
49:01: And the Arkansas Education Association allied with the science teacher Susan Epperson challenged the measure.
49:07: They eventually won, got it thrown out.
49:09: Then in 2005, the School Board of Dover, Pennsylvania mandated that classes on evolutionary science commence with an announcement supporting the study of intelligent design.
49:18: This was all they were saying.
49:19: This was 2005, so this was within all of our lifetime except for the little ones.
49:24: Back in 2005, they said, Okay, we've been teaching evolution.
49:28: It's out.
49:29: Everybody knows it.
49:30: We're teaching it.
49:30: But let's start the class by saying, but there's this other thing called intelligent design.
49:36: Guess what happened? Thrown out of court.
49:39: Cannot do it.
49:41: Not only can you not mention intelligent design, I'll read to you what the judge actually said.
49:46: The judge, John Jones, found the parents declaring that intelligent design, quote, is a religious view, a mere relabeling of creationism, and is not a scientific theory.
49:56: So here's what has happened.
49:58: We've gone from you cannot teach evolution to you cannot teach any form of creation, even intelligent design.
50:05: So we've gone from one extreme to the other extreme, and so we all know that this is ensconced in our education system.
50:18: I grew up in the 90s.
50:21: I like to pretend I'm in the 80s.
50:22: I was a child in the 80s because the 80s was much cooler than the 90s.
50:27: Thank you for the amen.
50:28: I think that deserved an amen.
50:29: So I grew up in the 90s, and it was just something that was taught.
50:42: It was normal.
50:43: You are the product of evolution.
50:47: There was really no debate.
50:48: Now, I didn't go to youth groups and stuff and hear about the arguments in church a lot, but in school it was just normal, and you all have heard this too.
50:58: We've all heard the arguments for evolution, and most of us who have been brought up in the education system, have heard the arguments for all of this ever since we were young.
51:09: We've heard the arguments of comparative anatomy.
51:12: Well, look at your structure compared to the structure of an ape, and look at the ape's structure compared to the structure of other vertebrate animals, and look how all these animals look the same.
51:22: They all have spinal columns, and they all have rib cages, and they all have femurs, and they all have bones that look like arms, and even fish, even whales have at the end of their fins, they have these things that look like the phalange bones of our hands, and so you see this comparison, and they take this comparison, and they say, see, we're all the same.
51:42: We all came from the same source because we all look the same, and that's the argument from comparative anatomy.
51:49: And then there's the argument of the vestigial organ.
51:52: You know what a vestigial organ is? That's an organ that no longer serves a purpose.
51:56: So, for instance, many of you have a little scar right here, right beside your belly button, because at some point in your life, you got sick, and you didn't realize what was wrong, but what was happening was that your appendix was infected or inflamed, and they had to remove it, and they said, don't worry about removing it.
52:12: It doesn't serve a purpose.
52:14: It's a vestigial organ.
52:16: It served a purpose in the past that we no longer know what it is, but through the process of evolution, we don't need it anymore, like your wisdom teeth.
52:28: And then there's the argument of biochemistry.
52:30: Well, we all have the same chemicals that make us up, and that's true.
52:34: The same chemicals that make up you make up dogs and horses and whales and everything else, and because all the chemicals are the same, then doesn't that prove that we all come from a common ancestor? And then there's the argument of paleontology, which says that the study of fossils proves evolution.
52:52: And then there's the argument from genetics, and that's saying that recognizing hereditary and variations among related organisms, that proves evolution.
53:01: And every one of us has seen this picture.
53:05: Whether it was in the science museum, or whether it was in a school textbook, or maybe it was even when you were online, you've seen the ascent of man, where he starts as the lovable ape hunched over with his knuckles dragging the ground, and then slowly, over time, he erects until we get to Homo sapien.
53:28: Homo sapien, Latin, the thinking man or the wise man.
53:35: Prior to that, it was Homo erectus, and prior to that, you move down the line all the way back to the ape ancestors that supposedly began everything for us.
53:45: And it's amazing how much this has come into our culture.
53:50: I brought an article with me, and this was actually in the Wall Street Journal.
53:59: The title of the article is this.
54:01: I don't know how many of you are going to understand this.
54:04: Title of the article, January 16, 2020, Humans Evolved to Love Baby Yoda.
54:14: That's the title of the article.
54:16: Now, if you don't know what Baby Yoda is, there was a very popular program that came out over the summer.
54:23: It was a Star Wars-based program, and in the movie called The Mandalorian, it was like a serial program.
54:31: There was a baby version of Yoda that everyone just fell in love with, and everybody thought it was the greatest thing in the world.
54:37: Well, what this article proposes is that the reason why we love Baby Yoda so much is because we have evolved to love babies.
54:50: Babies need support and care, and because they need support and care, evolution caused them to produce all of these traits that are very cute.
55:01: And so babies have chubby cheeks and big eyes and beautiful smiles because you needed that cuteness to make you take care of them, and evolution knew you needed that to get you to take care of them.
55:17: So evolution has made you to where you love babies, and you don't just love human babies.
55:22: You love all babies.
55:23: You love puppies, and you love kittens, and you even love Baby Yoda.
55:29: Dr.
55:30: Al Mohler says this, Human beings did not evolve, and we certainly did not evolve to love babies.
55:38: It's impossible for me to believe that in an honest way, evolutionists truly believe inside the deep recesses of their hearts that the only reason they love their children is because of evolution.
55:50: You see, that's the argument, right? The only reason why you love your baby is because he has evolved to a point to make himself lovable to you.
55:59: There's not an innate nature in you that God put in you to love your offspring.
56:03: It's a natural process because when it comes to evolution, if you begin to dig deep enough, you will find that when it comes to evolution, everything has an evolutionary answer.
56:14: Everything has an evolution because it's not just a scientific theory.
56:19: It is a worldview.
56:22: It is a worldview that affects everything.
56:25: And so you'll hear evolution be the solution and the foundation to everything.
56:34: It's not a small thing, folks.
56:37: And that's why I wanted to take a whole sermon and deal with it because this is a huge deal.
56:43: And this is something that we all have to face, if not just for ourselves, for our children.
56:53: Where did this idea arise? Where did the idea of human evolution arise, and why has it spread so widely? In 1859, a work of scientific literature was published entitled On the Origin of Species.
57:13: Many people misquote the title, and this is usually how they misquote it.
57:18: People say, you ever read The Origin of the Species? It's not The Origin of the Species.
57:24: It's The Origin of Species.
57:27: Because this book, which was written by Charles Darwin, was not necessarily trying to argue for the origin of man.
57:35: He would write that later in his book The Descent of Man.
57:39: Origin of Species is intended to argue that all species come from a single ancestor.
57:49: So it's not the origin of the species.
57:52: It's the origin of species as a whole.
57:55: It's the origin of how species function.
57:57: It's all of that.
57:59: And the title is not actually On the Origin of Species.
58:02: It's actually On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection or the Preservation of the Preserved Races in the Struggle for Life.
58:09: It's a really long title, which is why most of us just know it as On the Origin of Species.
58:14: And in the book, Charles Darwin provides what he considers to be evidences for evolution of life from a common ancestor.
58:22: We've all heard the stories.
58:24: How he sailed and he went to the Galapagos Islands and he studied the finches and he noticed that certain finches looked certain ways and that they had changed over time.
58:33: We've seen these pictures in the history books.
58:36: And Darwin's theory argued that organisms gradually evolved through a process called natural selection.
58:43: In natural selection, organisms with genetic variations that suit their environment tend to propagate more descendants than organisms of the same species that lack the variation, thus influencing the overall genetic makeup of the species.
58:56: So in simple terms, this.
59:00: The strongest survive, the weakest die.
59:03: The strongest survive, that's natural selection.
59:07: The culling of the weak, the propagation of the strong.
59:11: And so through evolution, the strongest cells multiply, the weaker cells die off, and those multiplying cells begin to develop and change.
59:23: And over time, you go from goo to you.
59:29: I'm not trying to be sarcastic, even though that is a little cheeky.
59:33: But that's it.
59:36: You go from microbes to microbiologists.
59:42: From goo to you.
59:44: From the single cell to the multicellular organism.
59:52: And how does it happen? Well, according to Darwin, it happens through a process of natural selection.
59:59: And keep in mind that word natural because that's the key to all of this.
01:00:04: Natural, meaning that it happens on its own, unguided, undirected, and without a divine influence or power.
01:00:14: It simply works.
01:00:17: Evolution was not actually a new idea.
01:00:20: Evolution had been believed and thought about and taught for many, many years.
01:00:24: But Darwin, by producing the idea of natural selection and using this as the means for it to happen, he came along and popularized his view and very quickly became well-known in the scientific community.
01:00:42: Darwin's On the Origin of Species sold out almost immediately.
01:00:47: His book sold out almost immediately.
01:00:49: Scientists quickly embraced his theory and began to teach it.
01:00:54: And by his death in 1882, just some 20 years after the writing of the book, his theory had become generally accepted.
01:01:05: And when he did die, he was buried in Westminster Abbey.
01:01:11: Now you say, well, what does that mean? Well, that means he was buried beside kings and queens and other people of noble personage.
01:01:22: He earned his spot, as it were, in one of the most famous graveyards in the world.
01:01:31: Today, many people embrace his theory and they mock, absolutely mock those who would deny it.
01:01:42: One of the greatest and most faithful proponents of Darwin's work is a man by the name of Richard Dawkins.
01:01:50: Richard Dawkins is an evolutionary biologist and he has publicly stated on more than one occasion that he feels that it is every atheist's duty to mock and ridicule Christians for believing in God.
01:02:05: He has stated that anybody who is not ignorant or a fool can see that evolution is true.
01:02:11: Let me say that again.
01:02:12: Anybody who is not ignorant or a fool can see that evolution is true.
01:02:21: When asked, have you ever seen evolution happen? He said, we have seen evolution happen.
01:02:26: We just haven't seen it while it's happening.
01:02:29: This is a direct quote.
01:02:31: He said, we have seen it happen.
01:02:32: We just haven't seen it while it's happening.
01:02:35: Okay.
01:02:38: But this is what he says and this is really telling about the heart of all this.
01:02:46: He says, the whole point, the whole beauty of Darwinian explanation for life is that it's self-sufficient.
01:02:52: You start with essentially nothing.
01:02:53: You start with something very, very simple.
01:02:56: It's self-sufficient.
01:02:58: Or rather, I'm sorry, I missed the line.
01:02:59: You start with something very, very simple, the origin of the earth.
01:03:02: And from that, by slow gradual degrees, as I put in climbing Mount Improbable, by slow gradual degree, you build up something from simple beginnings with simple needs, easy to understand up to a complicated ending like ourselves and kangaroos.
01:03:18: He said kangaroos.
01:03:19: He was being cheeky.
01:03:22: But the point is what he's saying.
01:03:23: He's saying it's natural.
01:03:24: It's gradual.
01:03:26: It doesn't require any divine influence.
01:03:28: It doesn't require any divine direction.
01:03:29: It just happens.
01:03:32: The single cell becomes the multicellular organism.
01:03:35: The multicellular organism becomes life.
01:03:37: And that life becomes advanced life.
01:03:39: And over time, you go from goo to you.
01:03:42: I keep saying that because that's really the point.
01:03:46: You go from a fish to a philosopher.
01:03:49: All it takes is time.
01:03:59: And this is something Dawkins says.
01:04:00: And if you remember a good quote, this is a very important quote.
01:04:04: Richard Dawkins said this, Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist.
01:04:13: Hear that again.
01:04:14: Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist.
01:04:21: Because up until Darwin's theories became popular, it was hard to get anyone to believe that God wasn't there because life exists and life is complicated and life shows evidence of design and there was all these reasons to believe in God.
01:04:38: And then comes along Darwin and says, No, we don't need that.
01:04:42: We have the natural process of natural selection.
01:04:45: And what we do know by nature is that nature doesn't need God.
01:04:49: Nature has a functioning mechanism that will do it on its own.
01:04:54: Therefore, we no longer need God as part of the equation.
01:05:01: Darwin's theory was not just a scientific one.
01:05:07: Darwin's theory was a spiritual one.
01:05:10: If man evolved from lower creatures, then man himself is an animal.
01:05:18: He's the lightest rung on the tree, but he's still an animal.
01:05:29: And beloved, the Bible just does not support this understanding of man.
01:05:33: The Bible does not support this.
01:05:38: And though there are Christians who would say, I believe it.
01:05:40: There are a lot of Christians who say, I can be a Christian and I can believe in evolution.
01:05:43: Let me tell you what Dr.
01:05:45: Mohler says about that.
01:05:46: He says, at the end of the day, the theological modifications required by the acceptance of evolution are vast and utterly disastrous for biblical Christianity.
01:05:56: The changes that you have to make to make evolution fit into the biblical narrative are so vast and so dangerous and so deadly, they're going to destroy the faith because the faith is not based on evolution.
01:06:11: It is based on creation.
01:06:16: So what I want to give you, and that was all introduction, I want to give you three reasons why we must reject Darwin in favor of Moses.
01:06:29: That's really the outline today.
01:06:30: Three reasons.
01:06:31: The title of the sermon is Darwin versus Moses.
01:06:35: Three reasons why we must reject Darwin in favor of Moses.
01:06:41: They're very simple.
01:06:42: I'll give you the three.
01:06:43: If you want the outline, if you want to write it down, it's very simple.
01:06:46: Darwinism is unbiblical.
01:06:47: That's number one.
01:06:49: Darwinism is unscientific.
01:06:51: That's number two.
01:06:52: And Darwinism is gospel deficient.
01:06:55: That's number three.
01:06:57: It's unbiblical, it's unscientific, and it's gospel deficient.
01:07:01: So let's look first at the fact that Darwinism is unbiblical.
01:07:05: Go back to Genesis 1 with me.
01:07:07: I didn't just read that as a springboard.
01:07:09: I read that verse this morning because I want to show you something in this verse.
01:07:13: And this honestly is what spawned this sermon.
01:07:17: I was sitting down thinking about the image of God and the fact that I'd preached on it for the last few weeks, and I opened up Genesis 1, and I'm looking at verses 26 and 27.
01:07:25: I'm looking at verse 26, and I'm seeing these things.
01:07:27: But when I noticed something in 27, it jumped off the page at me.
01:07:31: Do you notice what it says in verse 27? It says, God created man in his own image.
01:07:37: In the image of God, he created him male and female.
01:07:39: He created them.
01:07:40: Notice what is repeated in that statement.
01:07:44: The word created.
01:07:50: Here's the thing that's very interesting.
01:07:53: Genesis 1 is all about creation, right? But did you know the word created is only used five times? It's used in Genesis 1-1.
01:08:04: In the beginning, God created heavens and the earth.
01:08:07: It's used later when he talks about creating the fish and the animals.
01:08:12: But it's only used once.
01:08:14: But when it refers to man, one verse, three times in a row.
01:08:24: In his image, he created him.
01:08:26: He created him.
01:08:27: He created them.
01:08:29: The word bara in Hebrew is the word that is translated created.
01:08:34: The other word is hadah.
01:08:36: It's the word for made, and they are synonymous and similar, but they are not the same.
01:08:41: Hadah, when it says he made, he made, he made, you'll see that word over and over and over in Genesis 1.
01:08:46: But the word created, he holds specifically for man, and he uses that word three times in a row in one passage.
01:08:56: Anytime you see something repeated in the Bible, it's important.
01:08:59: But anytime you see something repeated that many times in that short of a space, that's the focus of the passage.
01:09:08: So again, you read the passage and you say, God created man in his own image.
01:09:12: In the image of God, he created him.
01:09:14: Male and female, he created them.
01:09:17: It's almost as if the Holy Spirit had foresight, like we kind of know he does.
01:09:24: It's almost like the Holy Spirit could look thousands of years into history and say there's going to be a time when they're going to need to stand up and say this, that man did not come by some process, but that he was created by God.
01:09:40: It's like he was shouting at us, hey, in case you missed it, in case the people from Biologos come a-calling.
01:09:48: By the way, if you don't know what Biologos is, it's the number one evolutionary creation institute in the United States.
01:09:53: They have a website, go look it up.
01:09:55: They'll tell you all about how there wasn't a genuine Adam and Eve and how there wasn't a genuine creation narrative from Genesis and how really what it is is a very short truncated version of a very long evolutionary history.
01:10:10: When you get to verse 27, it does not allow for that.
01:10:18: Verse 27 says that man is created, male and female is created.
01:10:26: And I want to show you, I drew something on my board because I want to show you the difference between the evolutionary model and the biblical model.
01:10:37: The evolutionary model is this.
01:10:41: We begin with a cell and by the way, they'll say it's the simple cell, which there's no such thing.
01:10:49: Cells are tremendously complicated and complex, but they'll say it started with a simple cell and there is what they call the tree of life.
01:11:00: And the tree of life begins to grow and off of this tree come the branches and out of these branches is where you get many different kinds of species.
01:11:11: And then at the top of this you have man, but we all came from the same starting point and over here you have the fish and over here you may have the birds, but actually from birds you have to go back here because dinosaurs became birds and so that's how that works.
01:11:29: And so you begin to see how it's one tree with many branches.
01:11:34: That's the Darwinian theory of life.
01:11:37: It's called the tree of life.
01:11:38: If you've ever looked at a biological textbook you've probably seen something similar to the tree of life and you'll see it even the animals and the plant kingdom and all this all started from the one and grew into many.
01:11:52: The Bible does not teach that.
01:11:54: The Bible teaches what we call the forest, not the tree.
01:11:59: Because the Bible begins with many kinds.
01:12:03: It does not begin with one kind that becomes various kinds, but it begins with many kinds and those kinds have variation within themselves, but they're still those kinds.
01:12:15: So for instance, within the kind of Canis, the genus Canis, which is dogs, there are many kinds.
01:12:22: We've talked about this in the past, right? You've got them all the way from the wolf to the poodle and the cat kind, the flying kind.
01:12:33: You have all the way from the house cat to the tiger.
01:12:41: Mankind, isn't that interesting that we still call man mankind? Within mankind what do we have? All kinds of men and women, but there's still men and women.
01:12:56: In a few weeks I'm going to talk about how stupid racism is because racism says somehow because I'm a different color, I'm a better man.
01:13:13: All mankind.
01:13:16: All the same kind.
01:13:18: Variations to be sure.
01:13:21: I mean think about how many variations there are among men.
01:13:27: I think about there have been some wild variations.
01:13:34: There have been men who were nine feet tall.
01:13:36: The Bible talks about Goliath, but we've seen people that are huge and then we have people who are born who never make it past three feet tall.
01:13:49: Wild variations, but they're all men.
01:13:56: They're all of the mankind.
01:14:02: Listen to this quote from Biologos.
01:14:06: Biologos, remember, number one evolutionary creation site, institute in the United States, that's what they say.
01:14:13: At Biologos we are persuaded by the evolutionary, excuse me, by the scientific evidence that homo sapiens evolved arising about 200,000 years ago and sharing common ancestors with all other life on earth.
01:14:27: Sharing all common ancestors, same thing, right? So this is their position.
01:14:33: Not the biblical many kinds position, but the one kind position.
01:14:36: We all come from the same root.
01:14:40: And they go on to say this.
01:14:41: Furthermore, it increasingly appears that the genetic diversity among humans could not have come from just two homo sapien individuals, but a population of thousands.
01:14:56: Did you hear that? These are supposed to be Christians, y'all.
01:15:04: And I didn't write this sermon just to kick people in the knees.
01:15:09: But think about what they're saying.
01:15:11: People who are supposed to be biblical Christians.
01:15:15: And they'll say, man, they strut their biblical stuff.
01:15:18: They'll say we are biblicists, we are Christians, we believe the inerrancy of the Bible.
01:15:24: But then you read this and they say, but the men and women of this world could not have come from a single pair.
01:15:36: There's too much genetic diversity for them to have come from a single pair of human beings.
01:15:45: Do you realize what they're denying? Do you realize what they're denying when they say they couldn't come from a single pair? They are denying the historic Adam and Eve.
01:16:00: And by denying the historic Adam and Eve, what they are also denying is they're denying the fall.
01:16:07: Because if there is no Adam and Eve, then there is no original command.
01:16:11: And if there is no original command, there's no original sin.
01:16:13: And if there is no original sin, there is no original need for redemption.
01:16:19: And the Bible says Jesus is the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
01:16:24: The Bible talks about the fact that redemption was needed from the very moment of the garden.
01:16:29: And that we inherit that sin nature of Adam because we are sons and daughters of Adam who was our federal head.
01:16:37: And he represented us when he did that sin against God.
01:16:40: And now when we come into this world, every one of us comes into this world in need of redemption because of our relationship to Adam.
01:16:47: We read that in Romans 5 earlier.
01:16:48: Through one man sin entered the world.
01:16:50: And death spread to all men because all men sinned.
01:16:53: That sin, we died in Adam.
01:16:56: If there was no Adam, there would be no need for Christ.
01:17:01: If there was no original sin, there would be no original need for redemption.
01:17:08: You have to understand that when you give up, oh, there's no reason why we can't have evolution and creation together.
01:17:15: Yes, there is.
01:17:18: Because we are not only giving up what the Bible says about creation, which is so clear, but we are also giving up with great abandon the very foundation of the faith.
01:17:33: And that is God created them male and female, one of each.
01:17:38: And in Adam and Eve, this is the wonderful thing, in Adam and Eve was all of the genetic diversity that is in all of you.
01:17:47: Adam and Eve had all of the things, some of you have blonde hair, some of you have brown hair, some of you have no hair.
01:17:56: Amen.
01:17:56: And all of that genetic diversity was in Adam and Eve.
01:18:06: Now I want to make this...
01:18:07: I'm going to stop here and I'm going to pick it up next week.
01:18:09: I hope nobody is offended by that.
01:18:10: Because if I kept going, we'd be here for another hour.
01:18:13: But listen, I am not saying that men have not changed and that there is not a mechanism for variation in man that I believe God put there.
01:18:25: A hundred years ago, the Olympic Games, men running those games, they were not hitting the numbers that our high school athletes are hitting today, a hundred years later.
01:18:38: And some people say, well, that's proof of evolution, right? Because we have evolved, we've gotten better.
01:18:43: No, our diets have gotten better, our ability to isolate muscle groups have gotten better, our ability to be better athletes because of better training and better technology, all of those things have gotten better.
01:18:56: This is not proof of evolution.
01:18:57: It is proof of the fact that God made us very brilliant in our minds and we can do amazing things with our bodies.
01:19:04: But just know this when you go home today, don't say, well, Pastor Keith is saying that humans have never changed.
01:19:09: No, what I am saying is this.
01:19:10: We didn't come from another life form.
01:19:13: We came from men.
01:19:15: Men make men.
01:19:16: Apes make apes.
01:19:18: Fish make fish.
01:19:19: And even though there's variation, it's still a fish.
01:19:22: You'll hear them argue about these, and I'm going to talk about this more in the scientific part next week, but you'll hear them argue about the fact that they say, we see evolution happening because it happens in this fish.
01:19:31: And I say, well, what are they after they evolve? They're fish.
01:19:39: But they evolve.
01:19:40: But they're a different kind of fish.
01:19:45: But they're fish.
01:19:50: That's the best they've got.
01:19:54: There's no evidence at all that man came from apes.
01:19:59: There's no evidence at all that we all evolved from a common ancestor.
01:20:05: Next week we're going to look more into the science of that, because I think it's important that you know we need to know these things.
01:20:10: We need to know the truth of these things so that we can stand firmly and not feel at all inadequate to stand for the truth of God's creation.
01:20:20: Let's pray.
01:20:24: Father, I thank you for the gospel.
01:20:26: I thank you for the word.
01:20:27: I thank you for Christ.
01:20:28: And I thank you that the reason why we study creation is because Christ, Christ is our creator.
01:20:36: The Bible says all things were made by him, and all things were made through him, and all things were made for him.
01:20:44: And, Lord, when we study creation, and we look at the subject of creation, and the complexity of your creation, Lord, we are moved to want to worship you more.
01:20:56: We're moved to want to know more about you.
01:20:59: We're moved to want to learn more about he who created all things.
01:21:06: Lord, I pray that this message would be used to draw people to yourself.
01:21:10: Lord, for the believers, that it would comfort them and encourage them in their faith, and for those who do not know you, that this would be used, Lord, to cut them to the heart, show them their need for Christ, that they would understand that they're not just a long, the product of a long series of evolutionary change, but that they are, in fact, image bearers of almighty God.
01:21:34: And because they bear his image, they are responsible to you, Lord.
01:21:38: May we see that and may we know it.
01:21:41: In Christ's name, amen.
01:21:50: Let's stand and sing together as we prepare our hearts for communion.
01:22:03: A mighty fortress is our God, A whole work never failing.
01:22:21: Our helper he amid the flood, Of mortal ills, but still our ancient foe.
01:22:37: Doth seek to work us woe, His craft and power are great, And on earth is not his equal.
01:22:59: Did we in our own strength confide, Our striving would be losing? Were not the right man on our side, The man of God's own choosing? Must ask who that may be, Christ Jesus, it is he.
01:23:32: Lord, shout out his name From age to age the same, And he must win the battle.
01:23:49: And though this world with devils filled Should threaten to undo, We will not fear, for God hath willed This triumph to triumph through us.
01:24:14: The prince of darkness grim, We tremble not for him, His rage we can endure.
01:24:28: For though his doom be sure, One little word shall fend him.
01:30:27: All earthly powers, No thanks to them abideth.
01:30:38: The spirit and the gifts are ours, To him who with us side, Land, goods, and kindred go.
01:30:56: This mortal life also, The body they may kill, God's truth abideth still.
01:31:12: His kingdom is forever.

01:32:06: That is, we have a devotion, Brother Andy leads a devotion from the Psalms, and then I'm teaching through systematic theology, so we'd love to have you with that.
01:32:14: And then our Sovereign Race Academy.
01:32:16: If you got your newsletters, you notice that the academy is moving to a two-year program for somebody who might be interested in really training for gospel ministry.
01:32:26: We're going to have a two-year program that allows them to do that, to get training for basic Christian ministry.
01:32:33: Other than that, you can see, I don't see any other things except on the 22nd of February, it's February 2nd today, Groundhog Day today, but on the 22nd, we are having a yard sale.
01:32:49: We need volunteers to help.
01:32:50: We're going to have the yard sale, we're also going to have the fishing hole, I think the American Heritage Girls are going to set up a booth, so there's going to be quite a bit going on, and we would like for everyone to help who can.
01:33:00: We also need donations of things to sell.
01:33:03: You won't get any money back, but if you'd like a receipt for something you donated, you can have that, we'll be happy to give you a receipt for whatever you feel it's worth.
01:33:10: But the only thing we're asking for is no clothing, because it's a very difficult task to try to go through a bunch of clothing, and so no clothing, and nothing that's broken that couldn't be sold, nothing that's junk that we couldn't sell, because we're just going to have to turn around and discard it.
01:33:27: So if you have things you'd like to donate, we'd love for you to do that, and the yard sale is on February 22nd.
01:33:32: This is also a great way to meet the community.
01:33:34: Even if you don't feel like you can contribute a lot, because maybe you can't lift a lot, or you can't move around really well, just being here to meet people, and talk to people, and share the church with them, and share Christ with them, more importantly than sharing the church, it's a good opportunity.
01:33:48: So I would encourage you to try to plan to be here February 22nd.
01:33:51: We're going to be here from 8 until 3 o'clock.
01:33:54: Is there any announcements tonight? All right, well just remember, over the next few weeks, every time you come in, it's going to look a little different until we're all done, but we're excited about the changes, and we're thankful for those who are putting forth the effort to help make the changes.
