In Mark 6, Jesus went with his disciples to his hometown of Nazareth, and on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue.
Many who heard him were astonished, saying, Where did this man get these things? What is this wisdom given to him?
How are such mighty works done by his hands? Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, whose family we know?
And they took great offense at him. And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his own household.
And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. He marveled because of their unbelief, and went to go teach in other villages.
Now this part right here where it says he could do no mighty work there, this doesn't mean Jesus was powerless because the people lacked faith.
Obviously it doesn't mean that, because he did heal people. This also does not mean you must believe the
Lord will do a mighty work for you to unleash his blessings upon you. Here's what we're meant to understand.
Without faith in Christ, you will not be blessed to have the favor of God nor be in fellowship with him.
No matter what Jesus did at Nazareth, they wouldn't believe. They'd known of his miracles, but only those who believe his words will be his disciples.
So he healed a few on whom he had compassion, and then he left and did not return. Hebrews 11 .6
says, Without faith it is impossible to please God. For whoever would draw near to him must believe in him, and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
