Years ago, I'm not gonna give the details, but there was something I could not forgive myself of.
And it was bad. And someone then, a
Christian, then spoke to me about that and gently but firmly rebuked me for my additional sin of not resting and trusting in Christ.
And I said, but I do trust Christ. And the person said, do you trust him to have forgiven you for this?
Well, yes, but, and there's always this issue of self -guilt.
And this person patiently but repeatedly told me that that was sinful.
I mean, we should feel guilty with what we've done, but not be held, our heads held underwater by it.
That we're to trust in Christ and relinquish it to him and have peace that he has forgiven.
And that's what ultimately matters. And it took a while before I was able to do that. A couple hours of talking until I finally relinquished.
And yet the guilt is still there and the regret is still there, but there's also with it now the assurance of forgiveness.
And so I don't dwell on it and it doesn't injure me anymore. And I learned from it.
So you have to get to that point of really understanding how much
God loves you in spite of everything. And that it's not okay for the sin, but it's okay to be loved by him.
And he does anyway. And just as Jesus said to the adulterous woman, go and sin no more, he just forgave.
She had plenty to be guilty of. And that was it. And he says, go on, go on, you're okay.
Just don't do it anymore. And that was it. And she was set free.
And that's what you have to do too, is recognize that you're set free.
