So we're going to continue with our doctrine of the week series, and I would remind you once again that depending on the doctrine that we're speaking of, we may or may not find that exact word in the scripture.
For example, you don't find the word Trinity in the Bible, but there is a Holy Trinity of father, son, and spirit that is in the scripture.
Also rapture, you don't find the word rapture in the Bible, but you do find the catching up or the snatching away of believers.
So it's not so much about the specific word. The real issue is, does the scripture teach it?
So the doctrine of the week, with all of that said, the doctrine of the week for this Sunday is divine providence, divine providence.
I like to describe providence as the hand of God, which is guiding human history.
The Bible says in Romans 8 28, and we know that all things work together for good to those who love
God, to those who are the called according to his purpose. The word providence carries the idea of both foresight and provision.
This is God's divine care overseeing his creation and how he is able to bring about everything according to his will and bring about his will in history.
Psalm 46 verse one says, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore, we will not fear even though the earth be removed. And a promise like that is impossible without divine providence.
