Hey guys, Colin here, and welcome back to the channel where the Bible and critical thinking meet to give you real
00:05
Christian commentary about the things that matter. Thanks so much for watching, let's get into the video. So Kat Kerr is the self -proclaimed charismatic prophetess who can often be found decreeing and declaring false and even nonsensical things.
00:19
In the video you're about to see, Kat Kerr says that when she asks God to forgive someone's sins against her, he complies with her desires and agrees to blot out their sin.
00:30
Watch this. Now whether you later in their life and in other places and ways, that's between them and God. But as far as something coming against me or trying to be used against me,
00:38
I'm going to make sure that I let the Father know, don't write that down because I forgive them. And in your understanding, when you ask
00:46
God, don't even write it down. He complies, if I can put that word. He will comply because that's my desire.
00:53
That's my will, let it not be written down. I don't want them held accountable so they lose their destiny or maybe he brings severe justice against them.
01:02
So Kat Kerr literally says that the Lord, quote, will comply because that's my desire, end quote.
01:10
On a side note, it's interesting to me that people with so -called discernment blogs are so often called prideful and arrogant, while the people who say that God complies with their desires are called humble servants of the
01:21
Lord who are just misunderstood. Just further evidence that we currently live in upside -down world. But in any case, let's talk about this idea.
01:29
Is it true, is it a fact, that if someone sins against you personally, you can ask God to forgive them and he will blot out their transgressions?
01:37
He quote, won't even write them down, as Kat Kerr says. This is effectively saying that you have the power to make
01:44
God forgive the sins of other people, to compel him to do so. And that is a very dangerous idea.
01:51
The Bible makes it abundantly clear that only God has the power to forgive sins and that he does so by his will for his purposes, not ours.
01:59
In Isaiah 43, 25, the Lord says this, quote, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and I will not remember your sins, end quote.
02:09
There it is, clear as day. Only God can forgive sins and he does so for his own sake.
02:16
What a beautiful doctrine that is. That the all -knowing Lord has full dominion over all forgiveness.
02:21
Why would we want it any other way? When God is Lord over forgiveness, he sends his son to die for us.
02:26
If we're in charge of forgiveness, if we decide what happens, we would not be forgiven. But more than this, we can see that the idea of only
02:34
God being able to forgive sins, that it was broadly assumed by virtually everyone in Jesus's day.
02:40
In Mark 2, 7, Jesus forgives a man's sins and the scribes respond angrily by saying, quote, why does this man speak like that?
02:48
He is blaspheming. Who can forgive sins but God alone, end quote. But the scribes were only half right.
02:55
Yes, only God has the power to forgive sins, but Jesus was God in the flesh. Kat Kerr, on the other hand, is not
03:02
God. She is not Jesus. And the scribes would have been absolutely correct if they responded this way to her.
03:08
So just to recap, Kat Kerr says that God will forgive the sins of anyone who she asks for, regardless of their faith, regardless of their repentance, regardless of God's own will.
03:18
This is simply unbiblical. Only God can forgive sins, and he has no responsibility to comply with Kat Kerr's own whims and fancies.
03:27
He forgives by his will and for his own namesake. Now there are a few passages that some may point to to excuse
03:34
Kat Kerr on this or simply be confused about. One of these is John 20, 23, where Jesus tells the apostles, quote, if you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven.
03:44
If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven, end quote. If you read virtually any commentary on this passage written by a reputable scholar, you will quickly see that the meaning is not being taken in a wooden and literal way.
03:57
After all, if it were taken absolutely literally, it would contradict the clear teaching of Scripture in other areas, and that simply won't do.
04:05
The fact is, Jesus was not telling the disciples or the apostles to go around forgiving people under their own authority willy -nilly.
04:12
He was also not telling them that they could make God comply into forgiving anyone they choose.
04:17
A simple contextual reading of the passage indicates that the meaning is far more doctrinally sound than that.
04:24
One commentator said this, quote, that is, it has the power to declare the conditions on which forgiveness is granted and the fact that it has or has not been granted according to those conditions.
04:36
Another commentator makes it even more clear when he says the following, quote, it is certain that God alone can forgive sins, and it would not only be blasphemous but grossly absurd to say that any creature could remit the guilt of a transgression which had been committed against the
04:51
Creator. The apostles received from the Lord the doctrines of reconciliation and the doctrines of condemnation.
04:59
They who believed on the Son of God in consequence of their preaching had their sins remitted, and they who would not believe were declared to lie under condemnation, end quote.
05:09
So you see, there is really no way to properly read this passage and come to the conclusion that the apostles or any other
05:15
Christian today has the power to ultimately forgive sins or make God forgive sins on their behalf according to their desires.
05:23
Rather, the passage seems to me that the apostles were given the message of Jesus Christ to spread to the world.
05:29
We know that that's true. Look at the Great Commission. And those who accepted that message truly, they could be called forgiven by the apostles, but not because the apostles had forgiven them, instead, because the apostles could recognize that if they had truly believed the gospel,
05:44
God had forgiven them through Christ. There are several other passages people could point to in an attempt to justify this.
05:51
They might point to Moses or Abraham, for instance. Abraham interceded for the righteous who lived in the city of Sodom, although there were few, including his nephew
05:59
Lot. Moses interceded for the people of Israel after they worshipped the golden calf and God's anger burned against them.
06:05
In the first case, the Lord had said that He intended to destroy the city of Sodom, and in the second case, all the people of Israel.
06:12
In both cases, the men who interceded were seemingly able to change God's mind on the topic.
06:18
Again, in this case and in all others, we must read more than one passage to fully understand.
06:24
Numbers 23, verse 19 says, God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.
06:33
So Moses and Abraham did not convince God to change his mind, nor did they make
06:39
God comply with their personal desires, as Kat Kerr says she has the ability to do. Rather, God is simply dealing with Abraham and Moses on human terms.
06:48
He is kindly condescending to them in the way they can understand in their feeble human brains.
06:54
This is for the same reason we pray even though God knows what we want to pray about, because prayer isn't meant to change the
07:00
Almighty God. Rather, God graciously gives us the right to pray to Him, and prayer changes us.
07:07
Also, a close look at these passages provides a strong refutation of what Kat Kerr said, certainly not support of it.
07:13
In Genesis 18, 27 -28, Abraham says this, Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the
07:21
Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking, will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?
07:29
Abraham didn't confidently make God comply with his desires. No, he called himself dust and ashes, and he asked
07:38
God humbly, knowing that he's a feeble creature, speaking to the Almighty Creator. He didn't declare confidently under his own authority that God must forgive these people because He's already forgiven them in His heart.
07:49
In Exodus 32, verse 11, Moses said, Why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
07:59
Why should the Egyptians say it was with evil intent that God brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth?
08:06
Turn from your fierce anger, relent, and do not bring disaster on your people. Moses did not make
08:13
God comply with his desires. He asked God to forgive Israel so that the nations would not see him bring his people out of Egypt for his glory, only to destroy them.
08:23
In other words, he was simply asking God to bring glory to Himself by forgiving the people.
08:29
He wasn't telling God, you need to forgive Israel because I've already forgiven them in my heart. On this topic, we can see two things clearly.
08:37
One, God alone can forgive sins, on His terms, in His own way, by His own will, for His own sake.
08:43
Period. And two, God's forgiveness cannot be taken by making Him comply with our personal desires.
08:50
Rather, it should be requested humbly, by means of faith in His Son. Hypercharismatic Christianity, such as is promoted by Kat Kerr, really should be avoided.
09:00
When you get so much of your doctrine from your own decreeing and declaring and personal revelations, don't be surprised when you start decreeing and declaring things that are false doctrine.
09:10
Now, I'm no better than Kat Kerr. I'm a wretched sinner just like everyone else. I'm in need of grace all the time, every single day.
09:16
I've said false things before myself, but that's why we must still repent and stop this kind of thing.
09:22
So please, let's all pray that she would repent, that she gets some good biblical teaching, and turn to the truth of God's Word.
