00:12
The call is to turn from your sin and put your faith in Jesus. All of us have hearts that are set against our maker and the problem, the origin of that problem is the problem of our sin.
00:25
It's a problem of our sin and no amount of good works, no amount of changing where we are geographically or spatially will fix that heart problem.
00:37
The heart of the problem is a problem of the heart. Our hearts are set against God and so the good news is
00:46
Jesus came to change all of that for sinners that turn from their sin and call upon him as Lord for that peace and that forgiveness that can only come by him.
00:57
There's a reason that that peace can only come from him and that's because he is God. 100 %
01:04
God, 100 % man. He lived righteously. He did something that you and I could never do.
01:11
You see, we like to compare ourselves by other people, right? We say things like, well,
01:17
I'm not that bad of a person compared to such and such or so and so, right? Other people become the standard, right?
01:25
Our morality is based on how more or less good we are than the people around us.
01:30
But you see, God doesn't grade based on the curve. He grades based on the standard of his character.
01:35
It's based on his righteousness, his holiness, and he makes very clear in his word that all of us have sinned and fallen short of that standard.
01:46
All of us have missed the mark by a mile and then some. We're not even close to being close. That's the picture that God presents for us is we're so far gone.
01:57
We're not sick. We're actually dead. We're dead in our transgressions and sins and we're not going to be judged on the last day according to how more or less good we were compared to the person standing next to us.
02:10
We're going to be judged on the basis of God's law and his character. And I assure you, just like me, friends, all of us have sinned and missed that mark in full, completely and totally.
02:23
And so what God has ordained for lawbreakers like me, for the covenant breakers, he has ordained his wrath and his just condemnation against those who disobey him and against those who break his law.
02:41
And that's why this message becomes so immediately urgent. The call of salvation, the call to be reconciled to God is so urgent because you know something?
02:52
A lot of times the gospel is presented like this. Jesus just wants to save your soul.
02:58
Live how you want. His lordship makes no difference. And his lordship doesn't speak to every other area of life, but it does.
03:06
You see in the Bible, in Colossians chapter 1, it says that Jesus is the firstborn of all creation, that by him all things were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities.
03:21
And then it goes on to say that he made peace and he is reconciling all things to himself, everything.
03:32
He made peace by the blood of his cross. So my friends, the message of Jesus is that he owns this world because he bought it with his blood.
03:42
Yes. He purchased it. It's his. Done. Once for all sacrifice for sin.
03:49
The Bible, I was just reading a passage a few moments ago. It says that after he made purification for sin, what did he do?
03:56
He sat down. When God himself sits on his throne, that is a time to rule.
04:08
It is a time to rest. And just as God the father sat in rest in creation,
04:15
Jesus, God, the son sits in rest for new creation because he made peace by the blood of his cross and he purchased everything seen and unseen, which is why the
04:28
Bible says in the Psalms, all the gods of the nations are idols, but the
04:33
Lord made the heavens. He says before me, there was no God form.
04:39
Neither shall there be any after me. He says Shema Yisrael, Yahweh Eloheinu, Yahweh Echad.
04:46
There is no other God. He's the one true and living God. Here, O Israel, the Lord, our God, the Lord is one.
04:52
I am the first and the last. Besides me, there is no God. The Bible tells us over and over again, do not be deceived.
05:01
You know why that warning comes up so much is because we are so deceived. We cannot help it.
05:08
We are deceived because we don't want truth. We want the lie. We want that which comforts. But you see what
05:14
Jesus brings, what the message of the gospel brings is something that disrupts and brings peace simultaneously.
05:20
It brings peace to those that can hear the message. And this is the message. Jesus bought this world.
05:26
It's his. He owns it all. And he brings this message like a herald that proclaims his good news on behalf of the king as an ambassador.
05:36
That's why we come today. We come with love, genuine concern, and care for all those who are weary, all those who are helpless.
05:45
Did you know something? The most famous sermon of all time preached by Jesus. Do you know what he says? Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God.
05:56
Listen to this. Blessed are the poor. He's not just talking about monetarily poor.
06:03
He's not talking about those people that don't have money. He says, blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who realize they are bankrupt before God.
06:11
They don't have anything to offer God. There's nothing that they could bring to God's feet and say, God, accept me.
06:18
Let me in. Forgive me. Reconcile me. There's nothing that they could do.
06:24
Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
06:31
Blessed are those who realize their condition before God, and they're so broken up and so humbled by it that they realize they can't come to God because the chasm is so great that they realize and they mourn over their sin.
06:45
They're broken over it. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
06:51
The meek, strength, contained, harnessed, balanced.
06:57
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. This is the message that Jesus brings.
07:04
He brings the good news of his kingdom. And this is the call. Are you ready for it? Are you ready for the call?
07:11
Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God. You hear a message like this today, the tendency is this.
07:18
Facebook. Check your text. Look out into the distance and see what
07:24
God made, and pay no heed to this crazy man with a microphone right now. Friends, the message of the cross, in the original language that that text is written in, it says that it's moronic.
07:37
It's a mo - it's foolish. The message of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the gift and power of God.
07:48
And that's what I want for you today. I don't just want you to know Jesus. I don't just want that.
07:54
I don't just want you to have peace with God. I don't just want you to have your sins forgiven. I don't just want you to be a new creation in Christ, which is what he does by his spirit.
08:03
When he saves someone, he comes inside of them, and he actually takes that person. And he crucifies that person.
08:09
If you can hear me, he takes that person, and he makes them dead. They die with Christ, and they're raised with him in new life.
08:17
That's what happens to a person when they come to Jesus. They're no longer that same person. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
08:24
Behold, the old has gone. It's passed away, and the new has come. I don't just want that for you.
08:30
I also want you to know and be in fellowship with God's people. And I want to share with you in love,
08:36
God's people are on this island. They are here. They love and they care for you.
08:43
They come here to feed you. They come here to provide for your needs. They come here to talk to you, to give you the word of God, to give you the words of eternal life.
08:54
They come to lay down their lives to reach you with this message that I'm proclaiming today.
09:00
And so I don't just want you to know God and have peace with him. I want you to know God's people that he has set here.
09:06
They meet just across the way, Sundays at 4 p .m. at Kapa 'a
09:12
Public Library. And they are eager to look you in the eye. We, as we are today, we ask, please, that you would come and speak with us.
09:20
I would relish the opportunity to look you in the eye and speak to you face to face and to share more about this
09:25
Jesus that we proclaim. And here's the call, my friends. I just want you to hear it. God is holy.
09:32
We are not. He is other. He is transcendent. He is outside of us. We can never hope to bridge the gap between him and us.
09:40
That's the good news. The good news starts with the proclamation of the bad news. And that's that God is good.
09:46
He won't turn a blind eye to our sin. We've all fallen short of his glorious standard.
09:52
We deserve his condemnation and wrath. Jesus comes as the only righteous one, takes the place of his people on that cross, lives the perfect life that we've all failed, dies a criminal's death where he suffocates and bleeds to death on a piece of wood, nails through his wrists, nails through his feet, a crown of thorns on his head.
10:15
He hung on that cross for six hours. And no one took his life from him, but he gave it up of his own volition.
10:24
He gave it up. And then at the end, he said, Tetelestai, it is finished. It's done.
10:33
The payment for sin and the appeasement of the wrath of God the Father satisfied on that tree for sinners like you and me.
10:42
Here's the best part, though. He didn't stay dead. He was in that tomb for three days, and then he rose, forever defeating sin and death.
10:53
And then he ascended to the right hand of God the Father as king, as owner of everything that you see.
11:01
And here's the call. Repent and believe the gospel.
11:07
Be reconciled to God. Come in the flesh. Have peace with your maker. Turn to him for life.
11:13
Turn from your sin and turn to Jesus for life. And you'll have peace with God and you'll be reconciled to him.
11:19
That's the message that we have for you today, friends. If you can hear me today, know that we love you, know that we care for you.
11:26
This is a message of love. Maybe it's the most well -known scripture. I'm sure you've heard it.
11:33
For God so loved the world, right? For God loved the world in this way.
11:38
Not for God so loved the world. It means in the original language, for God loved the world in this way.
11:44
That he sent his one and only son. That all the believing ones in him shall not perish, right?
11:52
But have everlasting, eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.
12:02
And this is my announcement to you. Jesus has done it. He has saved the cosmos, the world, and all can be reconciled through him.
12:11
That's what I proclaim to you today. Thank you so much for listening. I love you very much. And if you don't know
