A look at the 11 largest Christian YouTubers. BibleProject, Living Waters, THE BEAT by Allen Parr, Off the Kirb Ministries, Marcus Rogers, Wretched, Mike Winger, Whaddo You Meme??, Melissa Dougherty, Spencer Smith, Justin Peters.
I just point out positions here—actually arguing for and defending particular positions will need to be subjects for other videos.
I know there are other channels out there. These are just the ones I chose to make the video about :). Also, make sure you watch the whole video before assuming anything! *Like + Subscribe + Watch the whole video* for the algorithm :). - 00:14
- Justin Peters' ministry is focused on expository preaching and teaching, the sufficiency of God's Word, and exposing the false teachings of the prosperity, health, and wealth gospel.
- 00:28
- Peters is best known for his work exposing the false teachings of many different popular
- 00:33
- Christian teachers. But Todd, the leg lengthening routine, this is the trick that you are most well known for and it is just that, it's a trick.
- 00:42
- Todd, I know how you do it, lots of people know how you do it, it's been exposed. If you're familiar at all with my channel, you'll know that I often use his teachings in my videos.
- 00:53
- So obviously, I would highly recommend Justin Peters as an excellent source of solid, biblical teaching.
- 01:03
- Spencer Smith says he is just a guy with a Bible. Some of his content can be helpful, especially his critiques of popular teachers and Christians such as Hillsong, Bethel Church, Stephen Furtick, and Kenneth Copeland.
- 01:19
- At the same time, we have some concerns about Spencer's teachings. Although Spencer doesn't seem to use the term
- 01:26
- King James only, he says that the King James version is without error, that it's inerrant, and that everyone should just read the
- 01:36
- King James version. I mean, there are bad Bibles out there and everything except the King James Bible is going to have a lot of problems, okay?
- 01:44
- God has used the King James Bible in the English speaking world for over 400 years. It has been the
- 01:49
- Bible that God has placed his hand on and there's been very few, if no exceptions to that, okay?
- 01:55
- So listen, get you a good King James, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand it, and use the
- 02:00
- Bible that God uses for the English speaking world. The good old King James Bible, stick with that one and you'll be okay.
- 02:08
- While we have no real problems with the King James version, it's concerning that Spencer has such an elevated view of the
- 02:16
- King James version. Also, Spencer has a premillennial and pre -tribulational view of Christ's return, that believers will be caught up to be with the
- 02:27
- Lord prior to the seven years of tribulation, after which Christ will return to establish his thousand year reign on earth.
- 02:36
- We certainly don't think this position is heretical, but we also don't think it reflects what the
- 02:42
- Bible actually teaches. If you choose to watch Spencer's content, I would just recommend exercising a lot of caution and discernment.
- 02:54
- Melissa Doherty loves apologetics and theology, and her videos are aimed at helping
- 03:01
- Christians understand tough questions about Christianity in simple, love, and fun ways, while not compromising scripture.
- 03:11
- She is an ex -New Ager and is involved in a counter -cult ministry to Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses.
- 03:19
- In general, I think Melissa has a lot of good, helpful content. Her most popular videos involve
- 03:26
- New Age teachings, humorous and educational sketches about various topics, Joel Osteen, Bethel Church, Wokeness, and more.
- 03:36
- Melissa says she is not Reformed, but she also doesn't seem to attack Reformed theology.
- 03:43
- I actually don't hold to Reformed beliefs. I'm not a Calvinist. For those of you that don't know what
- 03:50
- Reformed theology is or what I'm talking about, it's basically a fancy word for God's sovereignty.
- 03:56
- It talks about the elect, it talks about the free will of mankind. I have a lot of respect towards a lot of Reformed teachers, however.
- 04:04
- I find myself very drawn to their teaching styles, to the way that they explain theology.
- 04:11
- I definitely love myself some Reformed teachers, but do I myself hold to Reformed theology?
- 04:17
- No. I don't see Reformed theology anywhere near an essential. I'm actually quite fascinated with the belief.
- 04:25
- I have a lot to learn in this area, and I like being where I'm at. Not holding to these beliefs, I don't feel like I have to defend it, and I also don't feel like I have to dismantle it.
- 04:33
- I'm here to learn about it and the opposing beliefs to it. Overall, I like a good amount of Melissa's content, and I would generally recommend her content.
- 04:44
- The theological disagreements I have with Melissa are not very prominent in her videos.
- 04:50
- At the same time, there are some. So, as always, exercise discernment.
- 04:59
- John McRae is the host of the YouTube channel, What Do You Meme? John's most popular videos are reactions to celebrities and cultural issues.
- 05:09
- In general, I like John's content, and I thought he did a great job defending the
- 05:14
- Trinity. But if you read the Bible for what it is, that's not what it says. And Jesus did not have to be
- 05:20
- God to do what he said. Now this is a big deal.
- 05:25
- This isn't like some sort of minor disagreement on theology or something like that. There's some core beliefs that unify
- 05:31
- Christian believers, and Jesus being God is definitely one of them. And he does good work in defending
- 05:37
- Christianity against critics. But when it comes to Joe's criterion of undeniable proof, it looks like Joe got us on this one.
- 05:45
- Sadly, although there is evidence for the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, it doesn't get us to an undeniable conclusion.
- 05:52
- So I guess we'll just have to throw out Christianity, along with what we know about the shape of the earth, that we landed on the moon, that the holocaust happened, and so on.
- 06:01
- The reason why is because there is no such thing as proof that leads to an undeniable conclusion. People will deny anything and everything.
- 06:09
- I don't see any indication that John is reformed, and considering who he normally associates with, most likely he is not.
- 06:18
- I would say that John is one of my favorite non -reformed Christians. His videos generally cover issues
- 06:25
- I would generally agree with him on. John has also been a source of inspiration for some of the content on my own channel.
- 06:34
- So I would generally recommend John's What Do You Meme channel, but as always, exercise discernment.
- 06:46
- Mike Winger makes videos on an enormous range of topics. The most popular videos involve
- 06:52
- Jehovah's Witnesses, Bill Johnson, Ravi Zacharias, Alcohol, The Trinity, Joel Osteen, and more.
- 07:02
- Mike is very explicit about rejecting Calvinism, and if we can undermine that and say faith is not a work, then all of a sudden
- 07:09
- I have less reasons to be Calvinist, if not no reasons. So I strongly disagree with him there.
- 07:16
- However, I generally like and agree with most of what Mike teaches, and I would say that he is my favorite non -reformed
- 07:25
- Christian YouTuber. His teachings are generally very helpful, and his work on YouTube has been a tremendous source of inspiration for my own journey creating content on YouTube.
- 07:37
- Like with John McRae and What Do You Meme, I would generally recommend Mike Winger, but again,
- 07:44
- I would exercise discernment about some of his teachings. Todd Friel is the host of Wretched, a channel that creates tons of content on tons of topics.
- 07:57
- Todd and Wretched are solidly reformed, and Todd is associated with many pastors and teachers
- 08:03
- I greatly respect. I think that sometimes Todd might unnecessarily stir the pot too much.
- 08:11
- The word is Bethmore. But overall, I would highly recommend Todd's teachings.
- 08:21
- Marcus Rogers creates a lot of content about all kinds of topics. While some of his content critiquing problematic teachings and cultural issues can be helpful,
- 08:31
- I have extremely serious concerns about several of his teachings. Marcus rejects the
- 08:38
- Trinity, which is a non -negotiable Christian doctrine. Where do you even see the word Trinity in the
- 08:43
- Bible? That is a man -made word because it's a man -made false doctrine. Marcus has a very problematic view of speaking in tongues.
- 08:51
- So I want to talk to you guys today about why you need the Holy Ghost, the evidence of speaking in tongues.
- 08:57
- Some call it your prayer language. I want to teach on that. I'm going to get into the word, and I'm going to show you now.
- 09:02
- Some people, they argue that, oh, you don't need, you know, to be baptized. We're baptized in the
- 09:08
- Holy Spirit, and they're just wrong, all right? And anybody who gets mad at this video or gets upset or starts arguing with this video is because they lack the faith to receive the gift, and they haven't received it yet.
- 09:20
- And so they criticize anybody who's walking in the full word of God. Marcus claims to receive direct prophecy from God, even though his prophecies have been wrong.
- 09:31
- And then, you know, I was praying about it, and the Lord told me Trump was going to win. And everybody was mocking me and attacking me and things like that.
- 09:39
- This is the first election. Yeah, the first election. And so I never, I never claimed to be a prophet.
- 09:45
- And, you know, God, I was just like, hey, man, this is what God is showing me. And I want to share it with you guys. And that was pretty much it.
- 09:51
- I also think Marcus has a problematic view of end times. Can you say with all certainty that you are ready right now for the rapture?
- 09:59
- Because of all these significant concerns, I would warn people to just stay away from Marcus's content.
- 10:06
- There are much better teachers to watch and listen to. Joe Kirby creates content for the channel
- 10:14
- Off the Curb Ministries. Joe produces extremely high quality edited content.
- 10:21
- And in general, I really like the content he creates. So far, I haven't seen anything that I disagree with.
- 10:29
- I'm not sure if Joe is reformed, but he did once interview Stephen Lawson, who is reformed.
- 10:37
- In general, I would definitely recommend Joe's content. His content is educational, edifying, and encouraging.
- 10:48
- Alan Parr's YouTube channel is The Beat by Alan Parr. Alan creates a lot of educational, edifying content that I do like.
- 10:58
- He also has some content that I disagree with. For example, I have a lot of problems with Priscilla Shire's teachings, whom
- 11:07
- Alan interviewed and endorsed. I strongly disagree with Alan attacking channels that focus on exposing false teachers.
- 11:16
- And Alan is not reformed, although he says he probably leans more in that direction.
- 11:21
- I would lean more towards Calvinism, although I don't agree with every single thing that is in that particular theological viewpoint.
- 11:28
- But I would lean much more towards that because I personally believe that it is God who is the author and the finisher of our faith.
- 11:36
- He is the one that initiates our salvation. And He is the one that's going to be able to preserve us until the day in which
- 11:42
- He comes back again. In general, I would recommend Alan's content. But again, you should exercise discernment.
- 11:52
- Ray Comfort is the host of Living Waters. And I recently made a video about him and his channel.
- 11:59
- I have been greatly encouraged and inspired by Ray's boldness and intentionality in sharing the gospel with people on the streets.
- 12:08
- Also, the Living Waters YouTube channel produces some great videos. In general,
- 12:14
- I would highly recommend Ray and Living Waters. Tim Mackey is the brains behind The Bible Project, an extremely popular
- 12:24
- YouTube channel that produces beautifully animated videos on many different topics.
- 12:30
- Much of The Bible Project's content is well -researched and educational, especially the videos about the books of the
- 12:37
- Bible and themes found within the Bible. However, Tim teaches several doctrines that are extremely concerning.
- 12:46
- It seems pretty clear that Tim denies the doctrine of substitutionary atonement. And what we end up with is a story that says,
- 12:54
- God's perfect, He's holy, and He's perfect. You're not, so God has to kill you.
- 13:01
- He has to kill you. He needs His pound of flesh in the name of His justice.
- 13:07
- And so He's going to kill you because He's angry at you. But instead, He's going to kill
- 13:13
- Jesus. And He takes out His anger on Jesus, and then He allows you, after you die, to go to the good place and not the bad place.
- 13:21
- You can sing forever the praises of the God who didn't kill you. How you guys doing? Now, some of you,
- 13:29
- I'm creating a caricature. But for some of us, you might think, like, yeah, isn't that the story of Christianity?
- 13:36
- Isn't that what Christians believe? And this is one of those cases where there's so many distorted, not even half -truths, one -third truths in what
- 13:48
- I just described to you, that there's nothing recognizable of actual gospel in what
- 13:56
- I just described to you, if you actually read what's in the New Testament. Tim also denies that hell involves sinners experiencing
- 14:03
- God's wrath. Hell is a reality that is present now. It's a reality that humans unleash on each other and on God's good world to ruin and destroy relationships and to destroy people.
- 14:20
- Hell is something that we have created on earth. And God hates hell.
- 14:26
- And the story of the Bible is a story about God wanting to heal His world and get the hell out of earth.
- 14:34
- And Tim is definitely not Reformed. While I think there is still much value in a lot of the content that the
- 14:42
- Bible Project produces, I would also warn people to exercise extreme caution when watching the
