Should Christians Abandon Public Schools?

How should we approach the issue of public education? Is the Department of Education a "neutral" organization? Is it possible for education to be neutral? What is the biblical perspective on knowledge and how knowledge is even possible? We live in a generation in which American children are being indoctrinated with a Secular, Humanist, Socialist, and Cultural Marxist worldview. They are being discipled in the Public School system. Should we be a part of what many Christian leaders are recommending: a mass exodus from public education? Watch this clip from Next Week with Jeff Durbin and find out! Watch. Like. Share. Comment. Alright, tonight we're going to talk about the only reason people need instructions on the back of a shampoo bottle.
00:12
Public school education. Now let's face it, every day feels like we're slipping further away from the biblical dream of our founding fathers and closer towards a confused, gender non -conforming socialist nation that the
00:26
Bernie Sanders worshippers want. Then again, it is 2018 and condoms have become a snorting game for teenagers.
00:46
Now it's really no surprise to anyone that this country is as unbiblical as ever.
00:52
Unless you've been in a coma for the past 50 years or go to a church that told you to destroy your television and computer in the 1980s.
01:00
Even in that case, the guy in the coma probably knows more about you, more than you about pop culture guys.
01:07
Now, in the 1940s we had dances like the swing dance and the
01:12
Roomba, which were accepted but considered provocative. In 2018, we don't call anything provocative, which is one of the many reasons why
01:22
I don't know what to call this dance. Hmm, now
01:43
I gotta say, I don't remember high school prom being the same when I was a kid. Although my principal did dress up like that guy on Spirit Day.
01:53
The truth is that the demise of American culture has been happening for a while now, and what's also clear is that over the last generation it's been happening at near breakneck speed.
02:03
Just consider this, the fact that this PSA, brought to us by the Englewood Police Department and Community, was on television in the 1950s.
02:13
Public restrooms can often be a hangout for the homosexual. Bobby and his friends hadn't noticed the man who had been in the restroom when they changed, and as it was late he suggested they take the shortcut under the pier, but the others preferred to take the more traveled way home.
02:47
When Bobby recognized the stranger as the man in the restroom, the shortcut under the pier didn't seem like a good idea at all.
03:01
Now first off, that man's face was curiously blurry, and I don't think that was a gay man,
03:07
I think that was Slenderman. But if they really did want to induce fear in people, they should have replaced that blurry face with the face of Kevin Spacey.
03:19
Now, with the help of public education, our country has shifted from those kind of PSAs to embracing
03:25
Bruce slash Caitlyn Jenner. Now you've heard the old saying, you've heard this, you can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl, well in Bruce's case, you can chop off a dude's genitalia, but you can't take the dude out of Jenneritalia.
03:43
Caitlyn, how are you? Give me five. Good to see you.
03:50
Good to see you. Yeah, absolutely. What's up bro? I love it.
03:56
You just can't fix it. Now, we've come a long way from PSAs warning the public against the homosexual, not only do we accept the lifestyle, but we shut down the businesses who don't embrace it, like bakeries in America and in Ireland.
04:10
Now, while conservatives scramble and try to figure out how we have found ourselves abandoning so -called traditional values and instead on the path to cultural
04:19
Marxism and a socialist utopia, there are many Christians who have been sounding the alarm for quite some time.
04:26
When you send that child off to school today, you're sending them into a pagan society.
04:35
When you criticize the Word of God, criticize the Lord Jesus Christ, just degrade
04:42
Christian faith altogether and teach those practices that the
04:47
Bible states very clearly are ungodly, unacceptable, and condemned by God, that's what you're sending your child into.
04:56
I don't think there's anything else that ninety percent of Christians do. Together, same choice, fight to the death over which
05:07
Bible you're going to use, okay? Which denomination are you going to be a part of? Duke it out there too.
05:14
But ninety percent make the exact same educational choice, and nobody can point to book, chapter, and verse to justify it.
05:29
So why are we in this confused place? Of course, there are a number of instigating factors that we can all point to.
05:35
It's easy to point to the general problem of human sin and the need for redemption in Christ. It's easy to point to the abandonment of the culture that the church has engaged in for the last generation, hoping more for escape from the world through the rapture than creating a culture of Christ.
05:52
It's easy to point to the power of secular media and propaganda, liberal news organizations like CNN, MSNBC, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, and others, sell their worldview and pump it into the homes and phones of everyone in our culture.
06:11
I'm Nick Gordon. My name is Katie Gibson. My name is Dawn Harbacken. If you're a cis woman and you're having sex with another cis woman, do you still need protection?
06:24
I am my authentic self, and I'm also the parent. My children need me to be for them. Now, both of those videos were from BuzzFeed.
06:37
Check out their future article, The Top 10 Reasons Why BuzzFeed Hates Next Week With Jeff Durbin. You'll never believe number seven.
06:44
It's because we're Christian. So, yes, you can blame a secular shift because of all those things.
06:51
However, there is a foundational reason as to why many in this current generation think the thoughts that they do.
06:57
Just ask yourselves the question, how come? How come this new generation seems to have adopted a humanist, pagan, and secular view of origins and ethics?
07:08
The answer, education. Now, listen to one of my favorite Bible teachers illustrate the problem.
07:14
A pupil is not above his teacher, but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.
07:22
From K through 12, children spend 14 ,000 seat hours in school.
07:27
Let me say that again, 14 ,000 seat hours in school. The average
07:33
Christian family spends less than 30 minutes per week discussing spiritual matters. Parents who think that a few conversations centered around what did you learn today need to be honest about the usual answer to that question, which is nothing.
07:48
If you can't say amen, say ouch, right? Now, if every student will ultimately become like his teacher, then we need to ask what that looks like when this man is the teacher.
08:01
Who wants to be a drag queen when they grow up? Hips on the drag queen go swish, swish, swish.
08:19
Swish, swish, swish. Swish, swish, swish. Now, one question, one thought.
08:25
Why did the drag queen make a song to the tune of Wheels on the Bus? Everyone knows if you cut out the bolts and nuts, you're still a bus.
08:35
You're just a bus with no dignity. Now, here's the thing.
08:41
The state -controlled public education system is not neutral. It's not neutral in its view of origins, it's not neutral in its view of history, and it's not neutral in its view of ethics.
08:51
Hey, here's some news that made me happy. California will become the first state to require
08:57
LGBT history curriculum at public schools. The State Department of Education is considering guidelines for schools when it comes to dealing with gay, lesbian, and transgender students.
09:09
Now, unfortunately, many Christians have bought into the fiction that education can be neutral.
09:15
But it's not. Because nobody is neutral, and nothing in the world that God made can be approached from neutrality.
09:21
Every human being approaches the world with a particular worldview. It's the lens and fundamental assumptions through which we all view the world.
09:29
Now, we all have a view of origins, reality, logic, and how we should live our lives. Some of it was directly taught to us.
09:36
Some of it happened because we thought through something and we changed our minds. Some of it was just caught.
09:41
Some of it we got from our families. Some got it through church and the Bible. And some got it from Macklemore and Lady Gaga.
09:50
Now, Jesus said, whoever is not with me is against me. And the Bible teaches that the fear of the
09:56
Lord is the beginning of knowledge. In fact, the biblical worldview teaches that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Christ.
10:05
Now, what's that mean? It means that any knowledge that is not founded on Christ is so -called knowledge and is, in fact, opposed to Him.
10:13
The myth of neutrality. That's what we have to grapple with when we are talking about education.
10:18
State -run public school education is actually a fairly recent comer in American history, believe it or not.
10:25
Before that, education was private and largely dominated by the Christian church. In fact, lest you be tempted to think that homeschooling is for dummies, socially awkward weirdos, and homeschooled mouth -breathers, some of the greatest minds in history were not part of the secular, state -run, anti -Christian public school education system.
10:47
This includes Albert Einstein, Blaise Pascal, Booker T. Washington, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John Jay, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, and Leonardo da
10:59
Vinci. They were all homeschooled woodpeckers. All of them.
11:04
The whole lot of them. And on the other hand, there actually have been weirdos. I will be honest about that.
11:10
Take example, this guy. Homeschooled.
11:17
Good job, Chris, in discovering that. Now, it's important to be honest with ourselves. Can we really expect to have anything other than a secular, pagan, atheistic, humanistic, socialist,
11:29
Marxist, and gender -confused gay society if that is what the dominant worldview is that is being taught in our public education system?
11:37
Now, I want to present a very humble, respectful word here. Unbelievers in the
11:43
West have attempted to destroy God's order of the human family. We all know that. Destruction of marriage, destruction of the family.
11:50
They teach us that having a lot of kids is a curse. And unbelievers teach that if you have a kid and you don't want it, kill it.
11:59
Now, when we consider the fact that our current generation seeks to destroy the family and children and the fact that Christians are the ones having all of the children in our culture and leading the way in adopting children, then why is it that the predominant worldview in our culture and our generation is secular humanism?
12:18
Answer? Education. Christians are having all the children and then we are handing them over to the secular state to be discipled.
12:29
Now, I want to offer you guys a few points as to why I want to humbly suggest, as many Christian leaders have, a
12:34
Christian exodus from the humanistic, worldview -loving education system of our day.
12:40
Firstly, public schools specifically teach a worldview that is antithetical to the biblical worldview.
12:46
If the school system was a gym teacher, Christianity would be the first kid hit in dodgeball.
12:53
By the gym teacher. Secondly, public schools indoctrinate children with a perspective on origins, ethics, art, truth, math, logic, and history that is devoid of Christ.
13:05
Thirdly, public schools are a fairly recent thing in American history. As I said, before that education was private and largely dominated by Christians.
13:13
And way before that, people taught kids who were human and not fish because unlike public school teaching,
13:21
Darwinian evolution was never a thing. Fourthly, public schools are doing discipleship, pure and simple.
13:28
That's the role of the parents and the church, not the schools. Instead of allowing public schools to talk so much, it's time to paraphrase the iconic movie,
13:38
Mean Girls, public school doesn't even go here. Fifthly, no parent can make up for the classroom hours in a humanistic system at home.
13:48
No parent is spending 30 plus hours a week specifically instructing their children in the biblical view of the subjects their children are learning in school.
13:55
Sixthly, nowhere in scripture do we have any justification for giving our children to the state to be indoctrinated in an effort to send our children as missionaries to the school system.
14:09
I contend that our kids can be missionaries without having them delivered to the state. And seventhly, funding for public schools is done through unjust, coercive taxation.
14:20
No American can truly own property due to public schools. This is a very unjust and a sinful foundation as a source of funding.
14:28
Those are my seven points, guys. Now I just want to say
14:34
I recognize as I say all this that I have a lot of brothers and sisters in Christ that are listening to this right now and you have strong disagreements with me.
14:43
I want to just say in confession, I used to be the most hostile, and I mean antagonistic and hostile person towards Christian schools and homeschooling.
14:55
It was after a time where I began to study what the Bible has to say about knowledge, about neutrality, about Christ as a foundation of everything that I began to have myself worked on.
15:07
And I want to say that if we want to see dramatic change in a generation, of course it has to come first and foremost with consistency and courage and humble boldness from all of us in the culture.
15:18
Of course it has to be the gospel. But in a real practical sense, we can't anticipate winning the culture to Christ if we keep delivering our children over to a secular, humanist, state -run public school education system that's going to indoctrinate them in an antithetical worldview from what we're teaching them at home.
15:39
Neutrality is a myth. When we learn that, we'll learn to view the world in the right way, the way that Christ calls us to.
15:47
That is one of the pillars that needs to change in terms of if we want this culture to change from a culture of death to a culture of life, we have to focus on our children and our children's children.
