- 04:43
- Write me a comment and let me know what we can discuss Hey, good morning
- 04:49
- Mom and dad, thank you for watching So we're going to look at Philippians chapter 2 and it shouldn't take too long
- 04:59
- Philippians chapter 2 verses 19 through 24 And let me read that passage to you really really quickly
- 05:09
- Before we discuss it and it says starting in verse 19 It says but I hope in the
- 05:14
- Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly so that I also May be encouraged when
- 05:21
- I learn of your condition For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely
- 05:28
- Be concerned for your welfare for they all seek after their own interest not those of Christ Jesus But you know of his proven worth that he served
- 05:40
- With me in the furtherance of the gospel like a child serving his father Therefore I hope to send him immediately as soon as I see how things go with me and I trust in the
- 05:53
- Lord that I myself also Shall be coming shortly So this is this is leading up from the things that we we've been talking about in Philippians where Especially chapter 2 and we talked about the theme of chapter 2 thus far
- 06:11
- He speaks of humility. He is he is encouraging them to be a
- 06:17
- Christian that is humble that lives a humble life and Regarding others more important than yourself thinking of others interest before your own interest
- 06:26
- And then the example, of course, he gives is our Savior our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 06:32
- He is the example of who? Who Left his his throne left his home in heaven to come down He he emptied himself and he took the form of a bondservant.
- 06:46
- He humbled the greatest form of humility was of God becoming a man and And he then is is our example of of humility of emptying ourselves
- 07:03
- For the interest of other others before our own regarding others more important than we do ourselves and The ultimate ultimate example is is
- 07:16
- Jesus Emptying himself and taking the form of a man leaving heaven and coming down here
- 07:24
- To us. Um, I mean think about it for a second. Not only did he come from heaven
- 07:31
- To earth Think about it like this we have astronauts, right and we have astronauts that have gone in the spaceship left earth and they have supposedly went to the moon and Landed on the moon and walked on the moon, but when they left earth in the space shuttle from earth to the moon and when they
- 07:58
- Made it to the moon and walked on the moon. They were the exact same person They were
- 08:04
- Neil Armstrong was Neil Armstrong on the earth and he was Neil Armstrong on the moon.
- 08:11
- No difference He of course is his weight may change and all that stuff but he was human being
- 08:19
- Neil Armstrong And it would be one thing if you know Jesus Left heaven and come to earth and was was still
- 08:31
- Jesus the Jesus that was in heaven was the Jesus that was on earth for him to to even walk in our midst, of course is
- 08:41
- Humility, but Jesus went above and beyond that to fully empty himself
- 08:50
- He he he changed his his his essence
- 08:58
- He came in the form of a man becoming 100 %
- 09:03
- God and also 100 % man where where he he experienced he was able to experience what we experience and For God to take on the form of His creation man who us who are finite and You know temporal and have aches and pains
- 09:33
- For for God to do that is the highest form of humility and an empty himself so much so that the
- 09:43
- Our I don't think our brains can comprehend the heat the humility the the humbling
- 09:51
- That type of humbling what that really means and he therefore is our example and and I'm I make all that I Make all that emphasis of Christ's humility
- 10:07
- To make this point when Paul tells us to Regard one another is more important than himself
- 10:14
- Do not merely look out for your own personal interest, but also for the interest of other if Jesus our
- 10:23
- God can leave heaven take the form of a man form of a bond servant and Be made in the likeness of men surely
- 10:41
- Surely we can surrender and submit to the working of the
- 10:46
- Holy Spirit to humble ourselves and be And seek the interest of others before ourselves and think others more important than we do ourselves so Moving moving forward
- 11:03
- Humility is the thing Christ is the example and and based on that he says therefore
- 11:13
- Work out your salvation Christ his work that he did in his humility
- 11:18
- For us for God's glory and we receive we receive the benefits and that benefit is the the raising of the dead of our soul
- 11:29
- Making us alive regenerating us saving our souls Jesus has done that now therefore
- 11:38
- Work that out. Let that salvation that God did within you manifest itself out
- 11:46
- Into the world and then he explains how He would see that Paul explains how he would see this happening you know in the verses that we looked at the past two videos on Philippians 14 through 14 through 18 and then with he he explains how
- 12:08
- You know how they are to to be emptying themselves out and How he emptied himself out and and Because And I think
- 12:21
- I made this comment though though we may be empty Because it's for God's pleasure and For because it's for God and an obeying
- 12:37
- God because it is is for him though We are empty. We are full.
- 12:43
- Oh Thank you for the input, I'm so thankful for the new
- 12:50
- The new internet and and this the speed that offers and and I Was pretty sure that the the picture and sound would would come in a lot better.
- 13:00
- So I'm so thankful for that So no worries when you empty yourself
- 13:10
- And you know that that scares us to empty ourselves Because who's gonna look after me who's gonna look after my interest?
- 13:19
- Am I not going to get to do the things that I want to do? We're so self -absorbed and we're so self idolatrous that we're so concerned with that with our own cells we we won't empty ourselves and And and share the gospel share
- 13:36
- Jesus You Help people
- 13:42
- I was trying to think of examples, but you know just helping people You know daily the the needs of others
- 13:53
- Pursuing Pursuing righteousness in the world as you know they're with all the wrong that's going on in the world and and the legislation that that You know evil evil men and and women have have promoted and got passed in in our government
- 14:14
- You know We're so concerned about emptying ourselves and in losing
- 14:22
- Losing our freedom or whatever it may be the the fact that we have to give of ourselves
- 14:31
- To Pursue these things in in this world Pursue righteousness in this world to pursue the interests of others
- 14:41
- We're so scared about that But no worries no fear
- 14:47
- When we're empty for the glory of God we're then full and You know words words can't convince you
- 15:00
- Words can't convince you submit to the Holy Spirit empty yourself and Though you may be empty to the glory of God.
- 15:09
- You've got to you've got to include that You've got to have that though. You may be empty to the glory of God.
- 15:16
- You will be full and you won't be full unless it's to the glory of God and So therefore and that's what
- 15:24
- Paul is speaking of He can have joy Because he's emptied himself to the glory of God therefore he's full and He receives joy
- 15:39
- He receives joy from that and he's sharing that joy Like I'm trying to to share with you and share with the community empty yourself surrender yourself to Christ Come to him repent of your sins put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and and lean on him to be your
- 15:57
- Savior Trust in him and and once he saves you continue Believing in him continue repenting continue believing in him empty yourself
- 16:07
- Seek the interest of others seek others is more important than yourself empty yourself to the glory of God is what
- 16:15
- Paul is saying to them live this way and You will receive this joy
- 16:22
- That's also in me and when you receive that joy that only
- 16:27
- God can give because though you are empty You are to the glory of God. You are full then share that joy with me
- 16:35
- Share that joy with me and we last video we talked about how You know our leaders today our pastors our elders our shepherds
- 16:43
- You know who are emptying theirselves for their congregation for their people
- 16:50
- They they have you know, they have the same burdens and struggles that that everyone else does they have you know
- 16:56
- They have their family. They have their bills they have evil People trying to come against them all the time.
- 17:03
- Somebody doesn't like something that they say in church Somebody may bring up lies about them and then they have their own regular
- 17:13
- Struggles at home That they deal with just like we do but then on top of that our pastors our elders shepherds they also carry our burdens on their shoulders as well praying for us and and seeking to help us and sharing
- 17:29
- God's Word to try to help us and so when when you obey
- 17:36
- Paul wants these folks to obey and our pastors want us to obey so that we empty ourselves and Then become full of Christ to the glory of God and receive that joy and then share that joy with him he says and our pastors want us to do the same thing and it will
- 17:58
- I think it will greatly alleviate and increase the the success and the the the glory of God in our churches if we
- 18:12
- Listen to our pastors as they teach God's Word and They and they say what
- 18:17
- Paul says they say what God says and they teach us to empty ourselves to the glory of God Live in such a way that you're emptying yourself daily to the glory of God.
- 18:28
- So therefore You are no longer living for yourself and then you are full of Christ and you receive the joy of God in your heart and then you
- 18:42
- Share the load with the pastor No longer is your pastor carrying every single members burdens on himself trying to carry that whole load himself
- 18:57
- But you come alongside him you share that joy with him and help him
- 19:06
- And And you share just just like if you were to you know share
- 19:17
- Share the goodness of God share the praise of God share your thankfulness for God for Jesus Christ that that fellowship with your pastor all these things he's sharing that joy with you and he wants you to share your joy with him and That that leads us then to to this next section
- 19:42
- From verse 19 to verse 30 It is the last part of chapter 2
- 19:48
- We're leading up to chapter 3 and I'm gonna divide this last part of chapter 2 Because Paul wants to send
- 19:55
- Timothy as we just read he wants to send Timothy from where he is To back to the church at Philippi and he also wants to send another guy named
- 20:05
- Epaphroditus to the Philippians so the first person that we looked at is is
- 20:11
- Timothy and his his Speaking of Timothy and wanting to send
- 20:17
- Timothy and then our next video We're gonna look at at Paul talking about wanting to send
- 20:22
- Epaphroditus. So let's look at this section And we're gonna see after after this exhortation that that Paul gives
- 20:33
- To the Philippian Christians Of how to live and who to look for to an example and what it looks like and and emptying yourself and humility
- 20:44
- We we now see this this pastoral the apostolic pastoral shepherd heart of Paul We see him
- 20:56
- You know, we move from Paul the instructor Paul the teacher to to Paul the being pastoral being being shepherding and we see his heart and his concern and He just opens himself up to to let us see another example of how we
- 21:21
- We can not live but in our lives how we can
- 21:28
- View each other view the world view view ministry. So so Paul is just opening himself up here opening up his heart for us to see and giving us an example of How we can you know live in Christ and and work out our salvation
- 21:51
- So verse 19 he says but I hope in the
- 21:57
- Lord Jesus Christ and so he's putting in his hope and the key words there are in Jesus Christ and What that's telling us is is that The words that The words that come from Paul to the
- 22:18
- Philippians or that come from Paul in his letters are are in the Lord His his hope is in the
- 22:25
- Lord his words are in the Lord his desires are in the Lord they come from they come from the
- 22:31
- Lord the source of That which is coming out from Paul is is in the
- 22:36
- Lord Jesus So it's not it's not arbitrary. It's not You know, it's not his own desires.
- 22:44
- It's it's not you know, whimsical or whatever But but his hope just like his words his teachings it's coming from the
- 22:52
- Lord Jesus Christ and And so that he's just informing us this is where his heart is and of course as as I was explaining as we look at Paul we can see how we should
- 23:09
- Pattern our lives pattern our thinking pattern our hearts So just as Paul's hope his words his desires how he views life it's in the
- 23:20
- Lord Jesus That's how we should be living our desires our hope our words
- 23:28
- Our emptying ourselves are helping others are pursuing righteousness in the world
- 23:34
- Excuse me in Christ in the Lord Jesus So so that's where we should be and he wants to send
- 23:42
- Timothy Shortly, so you can see his concern for for the church his love for this church the
- 23:51
- Philippian Church That he wants to send Timothy to them and he wants to send them
- 24:00
- Not just send Timothy but send Timothy shortly, I mean the he's given us this
- 24:07
- This time frame here, you know, he's not just saying yeah, I hope you know, I hope
- 24:12
- I can get Timothy free from from Busy things the things that's keeping him busy
- 24:19
- No, he's concerned about the people of God that he is serving and He wants to send
- 24:28
- Timothy and he wants to send him shortly so that So that I may also be
- 24:36
- Encouraged when I learn of your condition, so he wants to hear about them he wants to know about them and their and what's going on in their lives and their spiritual growth and their their
- 24:47
- Physical well -being Paul Paul loves them and and has a concern and his mind is on them
- 24:54
- His heart is on them And so this of course this pattern of Thinking and pattern of our heart should reflect that that appalls here that kind of that kind of love for our brothers and sisters in Christ that that we are we are concerned and we we want to hear about their condition and Their welfare and how they are
- 25:26
- And if you mentally or with a pencil or pen Circle the word encouraged because we're gonna come back to three words in these first two verses and the first one is encouraged
- 25:41
- Verse 20 for I have no one else And when he says no one else you can literally
- 25:50
- Translate it as not even one so Of the people of the people that Paul can send
- 25:58
- And he's got this he's got this great Love and he's got this great concern and he's got this great compassion for these people of God So he wants to he wants to send someone to them, but he has no one else
- 26:16
- In fact, not even one of a kindred spirit.
- 26:22
- So that's the second second word there kindred spirit Who will genuinely be?
- 26:29
- Concerned for your welfare Welfare their circle welfare. That's the three words that I want to look at in just a second encouraged in verse 19 and verse 20 kindred spirit and welfare
- 26:42
- So there's there's no one else so the people that Paul can send to to the church at Philippi There is no one else that has this kindred spirit that with Paul Who will genuinely?
- 26:58
- Be concerned for their welfare and You know to me that's a sad state of affairs and I feel
- 27:07
- I was just speaking with some some other pastors this morning on a zoom call and We all expressed the same concern and it's this for me
- 27:22
- It seems like the same concern that Paul is having right here in in writing to the the
- 27:29
- Philippian Church I Have no one else not even one that has a kindred spirit with me
- 27:35
- Who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare? In Paul's ministry
- 27:43
- It seems like they're There's a lack of numbers
- 27:49
- Everyone is concerned about numbers and what we can do to grow our numbers and everyone wants to be pragmatic about how we
- 27:57
- Build our numbers and get more people in our church and get the money flowing in and everybody is concerned about numbers be encouraged
- 28:08
- Fellow worker be encouraged because Paul is in the same circumstance
- 28:17
- For those of for those of us and for the for those of you who? reject man man's wisdom and man man -made
- 28:28
- Gimmicks to try to lure people into the church for the sake of numbers and for the sake of money be encouraged because Paul in his ministry is saying
- 28:41
- I I Have no one else Not even one that has a kindred spirit that will have a genuine concern for your welfare
- 28:55
- Be encouraged you are not alone. You are fellow worker with the Apostle Paul Numbers were not important to him, but what
- 29:08
- God has given him He used and he had Timothy You know and we're gonna see next
- 29:16
- Epaphroditus So be encouraged you are in good company
- 29:21
- So the three words that I wanted to look at in in these first two verses encouraged in verse 19 kindred spirit and In verse 20 and welfare in verse 20 have to do with The soul if you take a look at the word soul and what it means
- 29:42
- It's it's the the deepest part of who you are it is who you are
- 29:49
- It's the the seed of your emotions. It's it's it's what makes our our flesh our bodies
- 29:56
- Animated it makes us who we are. It's the part of us that that God saves is the part of us that will
- 30:02
- Go to God's presence and reunite Later in the resurrection with our bodies
- 30:10
- It our soul it is where God works Spiritually, this is where the work it happens.
- 30:19
- It's in our soul It is our soul and and this is the language that that Paul is using to say
- 30:29
- The work is happening Here in the soul. This is where the spiritual work is happening.
- 30:35
- This is where God is working This is where Jesus is working. He saves our soul. So we're in verse 19 when he says so that I may be encouraged
- 30:44
- When I learn your condition It could literally be rendered from the
- 30:50
- Greek well sold Yes, the word soul well sold his soul is well
- 31:02
- That's where the spiritual work is happening in his soul and when he hears of their condition
- 31:09
- His soul then becomes well His he is well sold
- 31:16
- That's so you LED well sold and then in verse 24,
- 31:23
- I have no one else not even one of a Kindred spirit some verses versions say like -minded, but it doesn't use the the word the
- 31:31
- Greek word for mind It says here in my version kindred spirit But it can be literally rendered again
- 31:42
- Like sold you have the same soul like sold the same
- 31:55
- The same Savior that saved my soul Saved your soul and the same
- 32:00
- Savior that lives in my soul lives in your soul and the same spirit That's working in my soul is working in your soul.
- 32:08
- So Timothy is like sold with Paul and then
- 32:18
- Timothy Paul says Timothy is genuinely concerned for their their Welfare their spiritual welfare how
- 32:30
- God is working and Growing them and using them. He is concerned about their condition and their the welfare of their souls
- 32:41
- And and of course, he's concerned about the their well -being physically, but he's concerned about their souls
- 32:47
- Spiritually, so this is where the work is happening. This is where the work is going on It's going on in in the soul
- 32:57
- And so when we get distracted by by the world with our flesh Those things keep us
- 33:06
- From doing what Paul was teaching us to do earlier in chapter 2 to empty ourselves
- 33:14
- Because we're distracted with what's going on on the outside and Not paying attention to what's going on on the inside where the spiritual work is happening in our soul, and if we can focus on the soul work and and dwell and live
- 33:38
- With what's going on in the spiritual world in in our soul Then the
- 33:45
- Holy Spirit can you can use that if we're if we're soul focused and not
- 33:51
- Outward material worldly focused if we're soul focused the Holy Spirit can use that to grow us
- 34:01
- Grow our willingness to empty ourselves in humility To the glory of God to be then be filled with Christ and receive the joy of that contentment
- 34:14
- All right verse 21 for they all seek After their own interest not those of Christ now from what
- 34:22
- I read and what I understand That these other folks that maybe
- 34:27
- Paul could have considered sending back to the Philippian Church They're they're believers.
- 34:34
- And so this this verse is not saying that I have some believers that He's explaining a behavior that's contradictory to what we would think a
- 34:47
- Christian should look like right, so a Christian Should have the interest of Jesus Christ and not seek after their own interest that that should be taken care of So that that behavior seems like it's contradictory to What a
- 35:04
- Christian should look like but from my understanding and and what I read Is that these these are fellow believers that that are around Paul that he he could have sent
- 35:16
- So it's it's not speaking of the the general or whole condition of their life and heart
- 35:24
- It's just specifically speaking about there in the immediate context
- 35:31
- Timothy Timothy is the only one that who would Genuinely be concerned with the the welfare of the
- 35:39
- Philippian Church Of among the the people that are that Paul could have sent
- 35:46
- These other folks they they wouldn't have been as genuinely concerned for the welfare of the
- 35:53
- Philippian Church as Timothy was and I believe that's what according to you know, what
- 35:58
- I was reading I believe that's what Paul is saying here of these other believers that were there with him they they weren't they weren't as genuinely concerned with the the
- 36:08
- Philippian Church as Paul and Timothy were remember
- 36:13
- Paul says we're like sold Timothy and Paul both have this love and concern
- 36:22
- Genuine genuine concern for the welfare of the Philippian Church and these other folks. They they just didn't they didn't have that And And Paul actually says
- 36:34
- They seek up their own interest and not those of Christ Jesus so If anybody has any
- 36:46
- Better interpretation of verse 21 there you can let me know but from what I read
- 36:51
- I think I think that's what's going on verse 22 But you know and this is
- 36:57
- Paul speaking to the the audience here, but but you know and that's the Philippian Church these people the people of Philippi, you know, and the the words, you know in The original language is speaking of an experiential knowledge like I I know the grass is wet in the mornings because I Walked outside in the mornings barefoot and it could fill it.
- 37:28
- So you you know that Experientially you've experienced so you know it and that's what the Greek is is saying here
- 37:35
- You you guys in Philippi, you know this because of experience that of his proven and that word is telling us that Timothy has been tested and And shown to be shown to be worthy he's passed with five flying colors
- 37:57
- So they have experiential knowledge. They know Timothy. They've seen Timothy and They have experiential knowledge of being with Timothy that he has proven he's been tested and Come out on the other side with flying color colors
- 38:15
- That he's worthy That he served with me and circle that word with The word with there is significant
- 38:29
- Paul says he served with me what position did Paul have of The history of God's people the the office of Apostle is
- 38:49
- One of the highest offices human offices that we could have and Paul is an apostle of Jesus Christ Apostles saw
- 39:01
- Jesus Witnessed his miracle and and were commissioned by Jesus himself for this office that's that's the qualifications for an apostle and and Paul met those qualifications and he
- 39:14
- Is an apostle, was an apostle that that was his position highest position.
- 39:20
- I Mean he was commissioned and and ordained and given this this position by Jesus physically himself to Paul What do we see today?
- 39:38
- What do we see today in our church leaders? I need bodyguards.
- 39:45
- I need an entourage I need somebody to carry my Bible for me Look at me.
- 39:51
- I need this, you know, I need this stage You know, I need to have this this certain look
- 39:57
- I need to go to you know have these certain clothes I need to have this certain hairstyle. I need to be attractive to the audience
- 40:05
- It's all it seems to be all about the pastor in his image his brand so that he you know, he can
- 40:15
- Grow his flock build his numbers bring in the money whatever the motivation is but um
- 40:25
- So many leaders and and so -called pastors and in in churches today in these big mega churches, especially
- 40:33
- It's it's about themselves and They interpret scripture about themselves
- 40:42
- This scriptures about me this scriptures about me this scriptures about me it's all about me
- 40:50
- When the scripture has nothing to do with with them and how they interpreted everything is about them
- 40:56
- But that's not the example that Paul gives here Paul having the highest position highest human position that any of us could ever have
- 41:07
- He says Timothy Served With me he wasn't he didn't make himself stand above He didn't make himself stand alone.
- 41:23
- He didn't make himself look better or greater than anyone else
- 41:31
- He had a fellow worker he had he had someone who served with him in the ministry
- 41:41
- That Needs to be our attitude and that needs to be the attitude of our pastors our elders our shepherds
- 41:51
- We and they are not above anyone else there's no such thing as celebrity pastors
- 42:02
- But that's what we have today But that's not the hard attitude that Paul has and that's not the hard attitude that we should have
- 42:14
- We are just fellow Workers And I think that if you're still watching,
- 42:23
- I think this is something that that my dad has said Several times
- 42:31
- It just it just hit me and I'm trying to think of of how you said it I Am just a beggar who has found bread trying to share tell other beggars how they can
- 42:56
- Get bread. I did not say it right and I butchered it and I'm sorry But that's the hard attitude that we should have
- 43:04
- We're we are just filthy rotten sinners who are no good to the core and God Rescued us and if he hadn't rescued us
- 43:17
- We would be sunk without hope eternity in hell we have no reason to to Behave as if we are better than anyone else
- 43:31
- We come alongside each other in serving Christ and I'll I'll uh
- 43:39
- I'll leave that right there So he served Timothy served with me Paul says in and the word in there and I apologize for stopping it at almost every word
- 43:49
- But but these words are certain significant in the original language when you when you see the word in right here it is it is a picture of Something moving forward.
- 44:01
- So what is moving forward and he uses the word furtherance. So Timothy served with Paul In the furtherance
- 44:11
- So it's it's moving forward. It's continuing and what was moving forward the gospel
- 44:20
- Like a child serving his father that was the relationship that he that that Paul saw
- 44:27
- That he had with with Timothy and the their ministry was the gospel and Timothy worked with him in the furtherance of the gospel they they they weren't looking to Have have another type of ministry serve themselves
- 44:48
- But their ministry was the gospel and it's going forward into the world
- 44:55
- And then verse 23 Therefore I hope so this is this is referencing back to verse 19 the the verse that we started with But I hope in the
- 45:06
- Lord So he comes he comes back to that therefore, I hope and his hope is in the
- 45:12
- Lord To send him and what does he say that first in verse 19? He says
- 45:18
- I hope to send Timothy shortly and And from from what I see here and the words that Paul uses he's he's continuing to speak to the church in Philippi and As he's continuing to write to them
- 45:34
- He's continuing to think about them and his love for them and his concern for them and how he wants to The sooner he sends someone the sooner he can hear about their condition and their welfare and has sent someone to to care
- 45:49
- For them and so he moves from I hope to send Timothy shortly. He then says
- 45:54
- I hope to send him immediately Immediately so his as he thinks about them as he continues to talk about them is his
- 46:06
- His desire for them Increases and grows so he wants to send
- 46:11
- Timothy immediately Then he says something unique or interesting here.
- 46:17
- He says as soon as I see And so circle the word see as soon as I see
- 46:24
- You know, and what does he see here? Well, it it's interesting well, he says as soon as I see how things go with me and And if at first read you may think you know, you know, that's kind of a it's kind of a self -centered statement there
- 46:44
- I want to see how things are going with me, but that's not what he's saying Paul's Paul's whole life is is emptied out for the for the glory of God To benefit these people for the furtherance of the gospel and the and the welfare of their souls and So he
- 47:07
- Paul is completely emptied out completely thinking of Just as he is written here.
- 47:15
- This is Paul's life following the example of Christ and You know living what he preaches
- 47:22
- Regard one another is more important than yourself Do not merely look out for your own entry personal interest, but also for the interest of others.
- 47:29
- This is Paul's life and so at this time
- 47:37
- Paul is in prison Paul is being guarded and not only is he being guarded but he is he is chained to a guard and so Paul is so emptied of himself
- 47:53
- Concerned with the condition and the welfare of the people in these churches
- 47:59
- That as he's dictating these these letters to his
- 48:05
- His fellow workers who who are writing down the letters He's thinking about Christ.
- 48:12
- He's thinking about The people there and his concern for them and their welfare so he's so emptied and so full of Christ and so full of his his love for these people that He he it's almost as if this is what
- 48:36
- I'm picturing that he's Forgetful that he's even chained to a guard.
- 48:42
- He's so emptied of himself and And if he's anything like me and uses his hands
- 48:49
- He's Speaking to someone who's dictating or who's who's writing the letter?
- 48:56
- as he speaks and and maybe he's using his hands as he As he's talking to his believers and as he lifts his hand
- 49:07
- To communicate as he talks the chains rattle and And and as the chains rattle he hears him he hears the chains rattle and It reminds him of the condition that he's in and and Paul being so emptied of himself
- 49:33
- Probably Tries to check on the guard who see who's he's chained up with you know, are you doing?
- 49:41
- Okay? But using your hands maybe to communicate you hear the chains rattle and you look over and you're reminded of where you are as you're
- 49:56
- Communicating a letter to be written down to be sent To the church that you love through the
- 50:04
- Church of Jesus Christ And he says I I'm hoping in the
- 50:11
- Lord to come see you Rattle rattle as soon as I see how it goes with me
- 50:21
- Can you can you picture that? Can you see that going on with Paul? He's He's maybe thinking he's so wrapped up and coming to see them.
- 50:31
- But then when he hears the chains rattle he's reminded of where he is and I'll just have to see how it goes with me
- 50:41
- It's a tough it's tough it's it's heart -wrenching it's
- 50:48
- It makes me think about his condition that that he was in but it's inspiring that he could that he could be
- 50:57
- Where he was and be so Empty of himself and so focused on Jesus and The people of God and then the last last part verse 24
- 51:14
- I Trust and and it's not the normal word for trust there. It is.
- 51:20
- It's a word that means to persuade So what
- 51:26
- Paul is saying here is I? Am I have a settled persuasion in the
- 51:36
- Lord I have a settled persuasion in the Lord. I'm I am persuaded.
- 51:43
- I Remember that phrase from from years ago. I'm persuaded And maybe it's a song
- 51:49
- Can anybody remember that song? Is that a old hymn or something? Um, oh,
- 51:56
- I can't I can't remember. I think it maybe was a song Something about being persuaded.
- 52:01
- I am persuaded but Paul says here. I'm I'm settled in my persuasion in the
- 52:06
- Lord Because of the Lord's faithfulness to me That I myself also
- 52:15
- Also shall come or be coming shortly He's persuaded in the
- 52:21
- Lord because of his faithfulness the Lord's faithfulness to him that's where he
- 52:29
- He has settled his hope He is persuaded and has settled his hope in the
- 52:36
- Lord and he hopes to come shortly himself to see These people that he loves.
- 52:42
- I hope that was encouraging to you if you don't know the Lord Jesus Christ And haven't experienced his joy come to him today repent of your sins and put your trust put your faith and trust in him and Receive new life and receive that joy that only he can give that we can't that can't be fulfilled in this world
- 53:04
- And then and then live for him If I can pray for you, just let me know all you have to do is type me low to be able to pray for you
- 53:13
- If you will join me come alongside with me And and help me in this ministry

- 55:50
- I'm sure for the behavior of men the behavior of the church
- 56:00
- But father I pray that you would you would be You change the souls change the heart of those who are in office now and father.
- 56:08
- I pray that you would Give us leaders. Would you put in office leaders?
- 56:16
- Who would seek to glorify you father, will you call men and women out of the out of the church to take these roles and Not be not be scared of the world
- 56:38
- But be empowered that you have a victorious kingdom and so father would you be calling men and women to That are of your people to take office to run for office to lead our society so that being ministers of the gospel and and the furtherance of the gospel
