- 00:04
- I'm not going to be in first Thessalonians, by the way, I'm gonna Allow brother
- 00:09
- Otis to pick that up. I like for him to do the introductions to the books and he started Last week and it may take him another time to finish the introduction.
- 00:18
- So if you'll allow me I'd like to go into Actually finishing the
- 00:25
- Sunday morning service last Sunday if you remember I commented that I'd like to take you into Psalm 22 this
- 00:31
- Sunday and Yet the message that the Lord lay on my heart was the one you heard
- 00:36
- So I thought that I would save this one for this afternoon so let's look at Hebrews chapter 2 and Verse 8 now, let's just drop all the way down to verse 11.
- 00:50
- I think we can start there Hebrews chapter 2 verse 11 For both he that sanctifyeth and they who are sanctified are all one
- 01:00
- For which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren And we discussed this in Sunday school and brother
- 01:07
- Otis's class this morning But in case you weren't there, let me just ask us to review just a bit
- 01:13
- Who is the one who does the sanctifying in this particular passage of Scripture? Jesus Christ and who are the ones who are sanctified?
- 01:22
- We are and it says that once we are sanctified by him we become He's he is not ashamed to call us brethren at that point
- 01:31
- Now let's go into verse 12 saying I will declare thy name unto my brethren in The midst of the church while I sing praise unto thee now
- 01:42
- That is the verse that was in our message last Sunday morning And I just thought it was something
- 01:49
- I've read many times I'm sure but it wasn't until recent weeks when I read this verse and I saw what
- 01:55
- I saw this time and That is that Jesus Says very clearly that when we meet together in church now, this would apply also.
- 02:05
- I'm sure when we're Individually with the Lord, but when we meet together in church and we
- 02:12
- Really praise the Lord where it's genuine and it's real Then what it says is is that Jesus Christ praises or sings praise to the
- 02:25
- Father in The midst of the church in other words in the middle of the church or from within the church
- 02:32
- Now, where is the church is? The church this building What is the church?
- 02:41
- We is the church that's bad grammar, but it's great preaching. All right, so we is the church now
- 02:48
- If we is the church It's going to irritate our English teachers in the midst, but if we are the church then
- 02:59
- If Jesus sings praise from the midst of the church, where is he doing that from?
- 03:06
- Our hearts so if there is any real praise going up to the
- 03:11
- Father who's doing the praising No He is
- 03:18
- Jesus said I will sing praise unto the Father in the midst of the church now
- 03:25
- You are right to some degree because we then join in don't we because what are we as the bride?
- 03:32
- What are we when the groom starts to sing to God? What do we do? We respond
- 03:39
- The bride is the responder we love God because God first loved us we received
- 03:47
- Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior because the Father drew us and He and in Jesus wooed us and the
- 03:56
- Holy Spirit moved us and so forth and we responded Now the same is true of praise and I thought that was so beautiful that it says
- 04:06
- That not only will Jesus sing praise to the Father from within us, but he will also
- 04:13
- Declare God's name to us. In fact, that has to happen first. Remember we discussed that last time as Jesus ministers to us when we come together the first thing he does in the earliest
- 04:25
- Portions of the service is he begins to proclaim the name of God to us now that means more than just how it sounds when?
- 04:32
- We say the words proclaim the name of God because throughout the scriptures the name of God Describes different characteristics of God now
- 04:41
- I should have before me but I didn't bring it the different numbers of names God has given to himself in the
- 04:47
- Bible, but there are many and in many combinations of those names And so every time we see a name like Elohim or like Jehovah Jehovah Or even
- 05:00
- Jesus God with us and Jehovah the word itself has the idea of the nurturing of a mother along with the idea of the what's the word
- 05:12
- I'm looking for the revelation of God of himself to us the
- 05:18
- Hebrew word itself carries those connotations the fact that he is the revealer of Himself, but he's also the nurturer and then you can add
- 05:28
- Many many combinations of other names that God gives himself at all They all tell us about the character of God And so when it says that Jesus declares his name, it means he begins to put in our minds and hearts
- 05:42
- Who God is? So that we can praise him you see you thank God for what he's done, but you praise him for who he is
- 05:51
- When you you can also praise him for what he's done. I suppose we don't need to get that technical about it
- 05:57
- But when you praise a little child, how do you do it? Someone just give me an example of praising a little child
- 06:04
- Give me a little you can do a real one if you can remember or an imaginary one, but how would you praise a child?
- 06:12
- You did a good job All right, and it but what what else if you wanted to say things to him?
- 06:20
- What kind of things would you say? Your mom loves you, that's good
- 06:30
- Oh, I see I see but you It has to be something he understands and often it's about him.
- 06:40
- It's about himself You're praising him for who he is. And so as as the
- 06:46
- Holy Spirit Who is the Spirit of Christ comes into the midst of this church and all churches across the world when this happens?
- 06:55
- Where God's children are he begins to proclaim The name which means the characteristics of God to our hearts so that we then respond by praising those characteristics and those attributes of God and Jesus does that is the work that he does.
- 07:13
- So so what does that tell us happens then if that's true? what happens when Jesus removes the candlestick from a church a local church
- 07:23
- Hmm No more true praise now There may be all kinds of dancing around and hollering and you you don't know or it could be just quiet and sober and cold
- 07:33
- And dead or it could be pew hopping and I saw I saw it wasn't this church
- 07:39
- But I saw in one church this young man jumped up ran around and came right up and ran tight walk
- 07:44
- The the banister right up to the preacher and began to say like this right in his face while he was preaching now if that had
- 07:50
- Been me I'd have to say I'm out. Would you please go sit down? I can't think. Thank you very much.
- 07:56
- You know, I can't concentrate But whether that was real or not Who knows all I'm saying is that if Jesus removes the candlestick you might see what looks like praise
- 08:07
- You might see all kinds of things or you may see a cold deadness. It would just chill the backbone
- 08:14
- Which that's what you see in many churches Because Jesus is not there and if he doesn't proclaim the name of God to his children they can't praise
- 08:24
- Because praise is a response and we'll see also worship is a response to the presence of God So if Jesus removes the candlestick because the church remained lukewarm for too long, it won't come back
- 08:41
- It won't the building will stay there. There'll be people in the pews. They'll be playing music
- 08:46
- They'll be playing hymns. They may be you don't know how they may act outwardly, but it's not real
- 08:53
- Now whether or not you and I can be perfect judges of that is a whole different story and that's very difficult
- 08:58
- We can't always do that. Yes The the genuine light has gone out and all that's left is an institution
- 09:19
- And there is no real praise in that scenario Now in this passage in Hebrews chapter 2 verse 12
- 09:27
- Jesus says he sings praises from the midst of the church
- 09:33
- Now, let me go into Chapter 22 of Psalms because you're going to see something amazing here.
- 09:46
- I Want to look we're gonna start with verse 20 But let's look at the end of verse 22 just so you see what takes us to this passage
- 09:55
- Why are we here in the first place? Look what it says in verse 22.
- 10:02
- I Will declare thy name and to my brethren in the midst of the congregation.
- 10:08
- Will I praise thee? This was a direct quote in Hebrews.
- 10:14
- This was a direct quote of Psalm 22 verse 22 So that takes us to Psalm 22, so let's go here and see what we can learn about praise from this place
- 10:28
- Psalm 21 13, let's start there and then we'll go into 22 verse 1
- 10:33
- Psalm 22 13 says be thou exalted Lord in thine own strength
- 10:41
- So will we sing and praise thy power? You see it all has to start with God it can't start with us now as We discussed last week in so many areas of the church, especially the modern church.
- 10:59
- We've gotten it all backwards Now we are Armenians now. We believe that it's all around man.
- 11:06
- It's all about man All that the service is for is to make man stronger so we can go home have better marriages
- 11:14
- Better child rearing better business great wealth We can be better have better character that that's what church is all about And yet if you go back just a short 50 years
- 11:26
- You'll find that if you went into the average church the church the service and the sermon would be all about God You'd be wanting you'd be hearing about what he's like You'd be hearing about what he has done you'd be hearing about who he is the name of God would be proclaimed to you by the preacher but by Jesus in the preacher and by everyone else who had done their own studies that week and As the name of God was proclaimed and the whole service was about God man was helped
- 11:57
- But it wasn't about helping man That was a byproduct just like our salvation as I've heard brother
- 12:04
- Oh to say our very salvation is a byproduct of the fact that when
- 12:09
- Jesus died on the cross he died for the cosmos Not just for me individually,
- 12:15
- I'm so glad that I was a part of it and aren't you But you were not the focus of it the father was the focus of it and Jesus went to the cross because he said let this cup pass from me, but Nevertheless, thy will be done.
- 12:36
- It was for God God is the one whose justice whose wrath
- 12:42
- Whose heart of love and mercy and all of that was satisfied in the one event that took place on the cross on the cross
- 12:51
- God's love and God's justice kissed each other and Without that we are dead
- 12:58
- We are in eternal hellfire forever and ever and ever but it wasn't about that so much as it was about God's Justice and wrath and his mercy had to all be satisfied somehow
- 13:12
- And only he could have figured out how to do it and only Jesus could have done it
- 13:18
- And that's what it's all about. It's not about man But man likes to make it be about man, doesn't he?
- 13:25
- The whole idea of religion is all about man being able to figure out a great stairway to climb to heaven
- 13:32
- Please God and merit his favor And yet God says we are worms
- 13:39
- He says we are a part of a race that is totally fallen and the entire race would have fallen and gone straight to hell
- 13:46
- If it weren't for the fact that Jesus caught the ones he was supposed to catch the ones that the father gave him
- 13:53
- Which God has known from all eternity past and loved and so here we have in Psalm 22
- 14:00
- Look at verse 20 Now You have to go to the cross if you're going to read
- 14:06
- Psalm 22 Deliver my soul from the sword My darling from the power of the dog the verse says
- 14:18
- Save me from the lion's mouth and then in this context Jesus says in the midst of the congregation
- 14:25
- Will I praise thee? The So let's go back to the first verse and see what's happening in this chapter verse 1 to the chief musician upon a jealous
- 14:37
- Shahar a psalm of David Look at the first words my
- 14:43
- God my God Why has thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me from the words of my roaring?
- 14:55
- Where have you heard those words uttered before? Most likely in the
- 15:01
- New Testament as the words of Jesus on the cross were recorded And he says my
- 15:07
- God my God Why hast thou forsaken me and that's how this psalm starts
- 15:14
- Why art thou so far from helping me and from the words of my roaring?
- 15:20
- It means his heart was roaring in pain He was in the midst of a desert
- 15:25
- Where there is no water crying out for help and the father would not help him and he asked the question why?
- 15:33
- Why has thou forsaken me this word forsaken in the Hebrew is all zob which means to loosen or to relinquish or to leave or to leave destitute
- 15:49
- To see someone who is destitute and walk the other way and that's what the father did
- 15:56
- Jesus suffered Separation from the father while he was still on the cross before he died physically in Fact that was the suffering of hell that kept you and me from having to ever
- 16:11
- Experience it and we will never know what he suffered. I don't guess Lest he chooses to teach us somehow, but how we would comprehend it.
- 16:19
- I don't know even when we're on the other side But he did he was the scapegoat taken into the wilderness and let go never to return
- 16:29
- My god, why my god? Why has thou relinquished me?
- 16:35
- Why has thou left me destitute? He says Why are you so far from helping me and from the words of my prayers?
- 16:46
- roaring in the Hebrew means moaning why and from the words of my moaning
- 16:51
- Jesus says and this psalm obviously has been inspired by the
- 16:58
- Holy Spirit as David writes this poem Some of it from his own heart and his own experiences and yet by the inspiration of God it becomes
- 17:08
- The very words of Jesus and the thoughts in his heart on the cross if you ever want to go to the cross
- 17:15
- In the New Testament, you see it. It is shown to you, but you don't see what's going on inside.
- 17:22
- Jesus his heart But here you do. Let's go on and see. Oh My god,
- 17:28
- I cry in the daytime But thou hearest not and in the night season and am not silent
- 17:35
- But thou art holy. Oh thou that inhabit us the praises of Israel Jesus first suffered eternal damnation in the place of his people
- 17:46
- He was the scapegoat led into the wilderness he was the Sheep who was slain for the sins of the people as it says in Isaiah 53 and this
- 17:58
- First three verses certainly describes this verse three says but thou art holy
- 18:04
- Oh thou that inhabit us the praises of Israel. Isn't it interesting that it doesn't
- 18:10
- Teach that when we praise he comes down what it teaches is that he is in the midst of the praise
- 18:17
- He inhabits the very praise. He is the instigator of it But let's go on and look at his suffering and the fact that his suffering is for our deliverance
- 18:29
- We find this in verses four and five our fathers trusted in thee They trusted in thou didst deliver them deliver is the
- 18:38
- Old Testament word for salvation And I wish it were the New Testament word in our minds To the saying
- 18:44
- I got saved we ought to say I've been delivered. I have been delivered Verse five they cried unto thee and were delivered they trusted in thee and were not
- 18:57
- Confounded they were not ashamed when they trusted in the Father and now see here as we go into verses six and seven if you
- 19:04
- Can't see the crucifixion itself But I am a worm and no man
- 19:11
- Jesus says through David This is not just a picture of how
- 19:16
- David thought of himself This is a picture of how Jesus in fact was at the very moment when your sins and mine were placed in his body on the tree
- 19:27
- The Bible says that he has made him to be sin Who knew no sin?
- 19:34
- That we might be made the righteousness of God in him So at this very moment when
- 19:40
- God sweeps all of the history of humanity Past and into the future and the present every sin that God's people ever
- 19:49
- Committed are Now placed upon the body of Jesus Christ while he's suspended on that cross and in his heart
- 19:57
- You see him feeling this I am a worm and no man Now you think it's bad for us to have sin in our lives, but we were born we came out of the womb sinners and We are quite used to sin to use to it
- 20:16
- But you imagine a person who was born into this world sinless
- 20:22
- Who had God the Father as his father? Who walked in this earth for 33 years tempted in all points even as we and yet without sin totally perfect totally pure Totally holy and then have the sins of all the world placed on his body at one moment and in his mind
- 20:44
- How would that feel? You know, you can't understand dirty unless you've been clean and he had been clean
- 20:57
- And so We get cleaned up and the Bible tells us our righteousnesses are as filthy rags and Yet we get to the place where we don't like sin.
- 21:08
- Do we? When it does sneak up and happen Are we happy with ourselves now that we're born again, no, no, no, no, we're miserable of all people
- 21:19
- But imagine how this was for him who knew no sin to have every sin just think just in your own life right now
- 21:26
- Think of every sin you've done and I know you can't think of all it wouldn't even be good psychology to do it
- 21:31
- But imagine if every sin you've ever done Just yours were placed on this perfect Man how that would feel to him when he rejected all that never would have done any of that and it's on him now because of you and then you add to that my sins and your sins and your sins and the sins of the world that don't even
- 21:54
- You know, there's a world of religion out here that the door is broken.
- 21:59
- You know what I'm saying? The door is broken Jesus is knocking maybe they have been saved and yet they don't even know what sin is because they don't read this book anymore and their preachers not preaching about it anymore and They don't hear much about sin because they're hearing about how to be better marriage a better husband more successful in business
- 22:21
- This book is written so that you can be successful. God doesn't want you to be sick They say if you're sick, you know, it's not because God wanted you to be it's because you're sinning
- 22:30
- That violates many scriptures And that's what they're hearing. And so when they go out and they get involved in sin
- 22:37
- They're not even thinking about it and yet all their sins are upon him Imagine that Jesus says
- 22:45
- I am a worm and no man I'm a reproach of men and despised of the people.
- 22:53
- Isn't this the way he was as he carried that cross? To that hill did the people love him
- 22:59
- Were the masses for him or were they spitting on him and reproaching him and saying things to him like you're the
- 23:07
- King you saved others save yourself They despised him this is a picture of his approach to the cross and his moments on the cross when
- 23:18
- God had turned his back and he had the sins of All of God's people past present future
- 23:26
- Upon him verse 7 all they that see me laugh me to scorn this happened at the cross
- 23:32
- They shoot out the lip. Nobody can do that better than a Jew The Jews were shooting out the lip at him.
- 23:39
- They shook the head saying He trusted on the
- 23:44
- Lord that he would deliver him. Let him deliver him seeing he delighted in him Where have you heard that phrase?
- 23:51
- in the New Testament at the cross when they were saying He delivered others let him deliver himself
- 23:58
- God is speaking through David Thousand years before this ever happened
- 24:05
- Exactly word for word what would happen? The very words of the scoffers at the cross are uttered here
- 24:12
- The very thoughts of Christ on the cross are seen here. First of all in verse 9
- 24:19
- He remembers the life of faith Can you you know one thing brother Otis is doing for us in Sunday school as he's causing us to see the man
- 24:26
- Jesus We've as Baptists have been taught our lives about the deity of Christ and that's wonderful because there are groups that don't know anything about that But we sometimes forget about the humanity the man part the fact that he did what he did
- 24:43
- He avoided sin by being a man who was in complete control of the Holy Spirit and by saying no to the sin
- 24:50
- Not by bringing in the deity part where he wouldn't sin. He didn't choose to do it that way he chose to say no to sin and so here we see that He has a remembrance of a life of faith not a light of life of sight
- 25:09
- You see if he if he had functioned of the deity side, it would not have been faith. Do you see that?
- 25:14
- It would just be reality the way it will be with us when we see him the first time the faith We don't need to faith at that point
- 25:21
- But he remembers the life of faith first nine says but thou art he that took me out of the womb
- 25:28
- It's talking to his father Now didst make me hope that's faith when
- 25:34
- I was upon my mother's breasts Started at a young age with his faith, didn't he?
- 25:41
- And I was cast upon thee from the womb Thou art my God from my mother's belly
- 25:49
- Jesus is on the cross remembering a life of faith Where he walked in this world as a man being a man
- 25:58
- Who lived and walked by faith by hope that God had given him even from his mother's womb
- 26:04
- You know, we were that way as well. We've been given this from the womb. We just didn't know about it until the day
- 26:10
- We got saved And then all of a sudden we knew about it We didn't know much about it then it took years a study to figure it all out or some what we know
- 26:19
- Anyway, now what about these thoughts in his heart on the cross look at verse 11?
- 26:25
- He now has thoughts of the hatred of his enemy the devil Be not far from me.
- 26:33
- He prays for trouble is near Now, do you see Jesus starts off saying my god my god, why hast thou forsaken me?
- 26:41
- He is left on this cross without God But he's still praying
- 26:48
- Can you imagine that being in a state where you're praying and God won't hear you that's the way it is in hell
- 26:59
- Do you remember a man praying once Abraham Abraham sin Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and Touch my tongue for I am tormented in these flames
- 27:13
- No one heard the prayer Hell is the only place God ever created where God is not
- 27:21
- But not far from me be not far from me for trouble is near for there is none to help
- 27:28
- Trouble many bulls Have compassed me about that's a picture of Satan Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me around.
- 27:37
- That's the demons they gaped upon me with their mouths as a ravening and roaring lion who
- 27:46
- Goes about seeking seeking whom he may devour It's all right here Jesus is
- 27:53
- Being compassed about by the demons by the devil By people who are filled with demons who are standing on the ground mocking him spitting on him shouting out save yourself
- 28:03
- You've saved others and he's crying out to the father, but the father is not there
- 28:12
- He then experiences weakness and disjointed bones look at verse 14 I am poured out like water
- 28:19
- The weakest you've ever been if you had the flu or something like that And you just felt like you were water poured out if you ever had that feeling you just just weak
- 28:27
- You could couldn't even get out of the bed to go do anything. You just couldn't hardly make it back without fainting
- 28:32
- He experienced this kind of physical weakness and all of his bones are out of joint.
- 28:38
- The Bible says is interesting, but there's Certainly one form of Roman torture that was created a thousand years after this was written
- 28:46
- That would cause that to happen and it's called crucifixion My heart is like wax
- 28:53
- It is melted in the midst of my bowels All this is going on inside his mind while he's on the cross and it's revealed to us here
- 29:02
- The thirst of the cross and the dry and thirsty land is mentioned in verse 15 My strength is dried up like a pot's herd.
- 29:10
- My tongue cleaveth cleaveth to my jaws and Thou has brought me into the dust of death
- 29:23
- And then we go on and we see a Form of death
- 29:29
- That was Roman not Jewish This was inspired over a thousand years before this mode of torture was invented
- 29:40
- So who is the author of the Bible? How could David possibly have written about a form of torture that hadn't been invented yet a thousand years before history gives it to us?
- 29:51
- and David be the author. I don't think David was the author. I Think just as the book of Acts says the
- 29:59
- Holy Spirit spake by the mouth of David And amazing because look what he says in verse 16 for dogs have compassed me that's
- 30:09
- Gentile Romans The assembly of the wicked have enclosed me. That's the
- 30:14
- Jews they pierced my hands and my feet a Thousand years before that form of punishment was even invented by men and I may tell all my bones
- 30:28
- They look and stare upon me A picture of the crucifixion
- 30:35
- Fulfilled to the jot and the tittle a thousand years later verse 18 They part my garments among them and cast lots upon my vesture had
- 30:44
- David know to write that Thousand years before it happened he wrote that His strength was
- 30:53
- God's presence and without it. He was literally dying. Look at verse 19 But be not thou far from me.
- 31:01
- Oh Lord. Oh my strength Haste thee to help me because if you don't get here,
- 31:07
- I'm going to die Why is it that we don't recognize this truth?
- 31:14
- Why is it that we'll go about our business? Far from God not caring if he's present or not some days
- 31:22
- Going about our business and then a care of the world comes or a tribulation or sickness
- 31:28
- All of a sudden we're looking around realizing then at that point. God is our strength If we could recognize this moment by moment as Jesus did on the cross
- 31:39
- We would be so much better off. Oh Lord, oh my strength haste thee to help me
- 31:48
- Wonderful thing is that the moment we asked that the father will do it But Jesus when he asked it the father could not hear it
- 31:58
- Because he was in the process of dying a death that we should have died an eternal type of death called separation from God and This was the prayer of his heart look at verse 20
- 32:12
- First of all, he prayed out against the flesh which the Bible teaches us wars against the soul
- 32:18
- He says deliver my soul from the sword my darling from the power of the dog.
- 32:24
- He wasn't talking about his body And he wasn't talking about the Roman sword. He was talking about the devil that Roman soldier was merely a picture or a type or a symbol of the world system which
- 32:37
- Satan has devised and Therefore a sister a symbol of Satan But the sword could not hurt
- 32:44
- Jesus nearly so much as This spiritual sword that he's referring to the darts the fiery darts of the enemy deliver my soul from the sword my darling from the power of the dog and Then he prays against the devil himself in verse 21 save me from the lion's mouth
- 33:08
- For thou has heard me from the horns of the unicorns the bulls
- 33:13
- That's Tom really should be translated. The bull is talking about the demons now. Listen if Jesus was praying this way
- 33:20
- Why is it that we Christians have been taught that we don't have to worry about demons? Now if you were the devil, wouldn't you like to teach the
- 33:27
- Christians that? Of course because then you're fighting the invisible man.
- 33:32
- You don't even believe he can bother you But he certainly can in fact Jesus was praying that his own soul would be delivered from these fiery darts
- 33:41
- And that he would be saved from the mouth of the lion gentlemen Every man in this room.
- 33:47
- It is your responsibility to make sure that if you don't know How to pray spiritual warfare prayer for your wife and your little children women, by the way are far more susceptible to demons than men
- 33:58
- Are? It's been that way from the garden Satan did not approach the man
- 34:05
- He approached the woman Because of her emotional nature and the needs of her heart and on and on and on for a million different region reasons
- 34:14
- And so gentlemen, it's our responsibility to pray over our wives and our little children
- 34:20
- Who are susceptible to these bulls these? Lions that roam around seeking whom they may devour
- 34:28
- We must pray continually that the Lord would rebuke Satan and his demons and bind them and send them away from our homes
- 34:37
- Send them away from our place Send them away from our children's bedroom and our wife and ourselves and give us freedom from the enemy and so The fear of God is the defeat of the world.
- 34:52
- Look at verse 22 Praise is the evidence of the defeated world. I will declare thy name and to my children as an interesting
- 35:00
- This is the context where this teaching of praise is right in the midst of this
- 35:06
- Right in the midst of the cross You couldn't have praise if you didn't have the cross.
- 35:13
- I Will declare thy name and to my brethren in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee?
- 35:18
- Ye that fear the Lord praise him all ye the seed of Jacob glorify him and fear him all
- 35:25
- Ye the seed of Israel praise is the evidence of a defeated world
- 35:31
- We must defeat that enemy. We must defeat the world system and Praise certainly is a declaration that that has occurred
- 35:41
- Secondly praise is the result of strong faith Even during temptation it is often caused by remembering past Deliverances look at verse 24 for he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted
- 35:55
- Neither hath he hid his face from him But when he cried unto him he heard my praise shall be of thee and the great congregation
- 36:04
- I will pay my vows before them that fear him and then thirdly
- 36:09
- We see that praise is the evidence of a saint who is seeking God look at verse 26
- 36:15
- The meek shall eat and be satisfied They shall praise the
- 36:21
- Lord that seek him Those that are seeking him are the ones who will be praising him your heart
- 36:30
- Shall live forever it says So Jeremiah 29 13 says and ye shall seek me and find me when you shall search for me with all your heart
- 36:41
- And I will be found of you saith the Lord and I will turn away your captivity
- 36:46
- I will guard you from the enemy that would take you captive and I will gather you from all the nations
- 36:52
- I'll cause you to be separate and different and from all the places whether I have driven you saith the
- 36:58
- Lord and I will bring you Again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away from that's the holy land holy land which which pictures victorious
- 37:07
- Christian living Praise is the foreglimpse of the kingdom look at verse 27
- 37:14
- All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord and all the kindreds isn't that amazing?
- 37:20
- I just learned something right there. It's kind of neat when you're teaching and God teaches you something That's not in the notes.
- 37:26
- Wow, look at this all the ends of the world shall remember You know what
- 37:33
- I've heard you say this brother Otis you couldn't have false teaching you couldn't have false religions like Muhammad ism
- 37:40
- Islam Buddhism unless there were a true to start with Unless there were a true religion of worshiping a true
- 37:48
- God. You couldn't even conceive of the fake and Here it goes all the way to the end of time
- 37:55
- When we're in the kingdom period and it says that the world will then remember the
- 38:01
- God they started with Wow and all the kindreds of the nation shall worship before thee you see how there's a foreglimpse of the kingdom age here and You'll see praise there for the kingdom is the
- 38:17
- Lord's and he is the governor of many nations That's Jesus on his literal throne on the literal earth for a thousand years all day that be fat upon the earth shall eat and worship
- 38:28
- That's Baptist. See I knew it was gonna be mostly Baptist. They get saved All day they go down to the dust shall bow before him and none can keep alive his own soul
- 38:41
- That's how you get saved as God reveals to you that you can't keep alive your own soul Can you cry out for him at that point?
- 38:49
- And you say I'm not a very good Lord of my own life because once this heart stops
- 38:54
- I can't start it again God reveals to you a great need of the
- 39:01
- Creator and Then there's a great promise and I want to end with this have to because I'm down to the last verse out of verses a
- 39:12
- Great promise now listen to this moms and dads grandmoms and granddads
- 39:18
- Praise will be accounted to the next generation Did you know that one of the greatest motives for us as a church to learn to praise better?
- 39:30
- Is because if we do our children will know God better It's right here.
- 39:36
- Look at verse 30 a seed Shall serve him It shall be accounted to the
- 39:44
- Lord for a generation What shall be accounted for the
- 39:50
- Lord eating and worshiping When we learn to fellowship with God and the presence of God becomes so strong in our lives and especially in the church services with because that's where the children watch a lot of What church is supposed to be like and the presence of God becomes so strong that they see us weeping
- 40:12
- They see us laughing for joy They see us falling down and literally worshiping
- 40:18
- God Which we don't know we know nothing about what that means yet we're learning a little bit about what it means to praise worship is entirely different and Our children see us
- 40:30
- Worshiping and praising God for real with Jesus Christ in the midst of us coming out and singing praises to God And the children see that do you realize that verse 30
- 40:41
- B? Says it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation the next generation at least we're promised that the next generation
- 40:49
- Will be okay You may not have known
- 40:55
- God does that but he does Did you know that curses are passed down to the second third generation as well if we do badly if we become alcoholics and Prostitutes and we drink and party and that's what we do.
- 41:09
- Did you know three generations later? You got a bunch of kids that are alcoholics drinking and partying and they won't know the name of God when they hear it
- 41:15
- They'll curse God when they hear it Well, we know that's true. Why is it that we refuse to accept the fact that if we'll learn to praise, right?
- 41:24
- It will be counted for a generation Accounted in the Hebrew so far means to score with a mark as a tally or record
- 41:36
- If we learn to praise in this church God will put a mark on our scorecard if you will and count it to the next generation
- 41:47
- Now you say how does he do that? Well, it's obvious how he does that the children learn from what we do and They remember and they notice hypocrisy when they see it
- 41:59
- We can talk about God all we won't but when we don't act excited about him and they can't see excitement in our hearts and reality in depth of Moanings in our heart for him.
- 42:10
- They don't believe it. And when they turn teenagers, that's when they'll drop it if it's not real Verse 31 says they shall come and shall declare his righteousness
- 42:20
- Unto a people that shall be born That he hath done this
- 42:25
- I rest my case you can't get around it that's what it teaches They shall come and declare whose day
- 42:34
- Who are those who aren't even born yet who are coming that's our children We just got a little new one this week in our church
- 42:42
- Reese is here he's gonna be watching us He's gonna be learning from us how to praise the
- 42:49
- Lord how to worship God how to speak He'll learn whether you're supposed to talk negative about people when they're not in your presence or not by watching us
- 42:58
- And then that's what he'll do. He sees us gossip. He'll be a gossip If he sees us men be weak and not lead then he'll be weak and won't leave and he'll let his wife do it all
- 43:11
- Whatever we do they'll see it and God gives us a promise here that it'll be for the next generation But this is with regard specifically in this book of praise
- 43:24
- He praises the father from the midst of us and the children watch it and they learn to praise as well
- 43:31
- What a wonderful blessing I'm thankful that I'm a part of a church where I feel very very good about my children growing up in this church and around you people and your your children and Grandchildren and around you
- 43:47
- It's a privilege. Let's stand and have prayer together Father we thank you for your word
- 43:54
- We ask you to keep it in our hearts and not allow the birds to come and eat the seed but allow it to work in our hearts and for us to think about it and to be thoughtful and to Chew on these truths and to let them sink deep within our being
- 44:11
- That you might do a true work in our hearts that would cause us to be more like Jesus and we ask it in his
