wrong question welcome back to a brand new video here at wise disciple my name's nate and i'm so glad that you're watching here at wise disciple, i'm helping you become the effective christian that you were meant to be now, some people think that i'm actually calling myself wise here at this channel that's not it jesus calls all disciples to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves in matthew 10 16 and so, here at this channel, we focus on thinking more like jesus speaking more like jesus so we can all truly fulfill what it means to be his disciples especially in today's culture well today we're looking at more woke, progressive tiktok videos i'm doing this because i think it's instructive to walk through these together with you so without further ado, let's jump right in what's your church's policy on lgbtq?

oh, we just love everybody everybody's welcome here so would you officiate a gay wedding? eh, that's a complicated question we should go out for coffee sometime and talk about it oh, it's not that complex i was really just asking for the policy position either you would or you wouldn't and i take it to mean, in this case, you would not because you don't believe god blesses gay unions so you would not officiate a gay wedding but you'd still like to be able to explain that to me over an hour -long conversation, especially from the bible well, yeah yeah, so it sounds like this guy's problem with evangelicals is they don't have a simple, pat answer to his question and you know why they don't?

because there is no yes or no answer to this question are lgbt welcome in church?

yes but wait a second, what do you mean by welcome? do you mean welcome to attend and to hear the gospel preached?

or do you mean welcomed as a full member of the body of christ? see, you can't stop christians from continuing to answer because there's more to it than that and it's not even because they're lgbt it's because everyone gets the same answer when you come to church you are welcome to hear the message of the gospel but the gospel compels you to leave your old ways behind and follow after jesus mark 8 34 says this, this is jesus speaking if anyone would come after me, let him, here it is deny himself and take up his cross and follow me there's your formula for what it looks like to be a christian to be a true follower of jesus you must deny yourself what's the goal of denying yourself?

well, to align yourself to god's desires for your life and how do you do that?

well, you read god's word and when you find places in god's word that run right up against your lifestyle or your beliefs, you know you deny yourself according to christ's command and you conform to god's word that's what it means to deny yourself once you realize this, then the next question is what does god's word say about lgbt activity?

leviticus 18 22 leviticus 20 13 1 corinthians 6 9 romans 1 it is not what god's design is for humanity look at this, 1 corinthians 6 9 do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of god?

do not be deceived, neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality will inherit the kingdom of god see, knowing all of this now i think it makes sense that the first fundamental component of the gospel is to repent right?

you must repent deny yourself and follow after jesus and that's a journey it takes time as people hear the gospel for the first time and follow after jesus and that's what an evangelical would explain to this man over coffee how about staff roles?

could a gay married person become a pastor on staff at your church? uh, no, that wouldn't be something we'd consider how about membership?

could a gay married couple become official members? i'm not sure about that, i'd have to talk to the other elders but a gay couple, again, is more than welcome to be part of our church right, they're still welcome welcome to give money, to volunteer in your outreach programs but probably not in your kids' programs, because that would make parents nervous yeah, so the guy didn't want to go to coffee and have an evangelical explain what god's word says and then he just ends up asking a ton of questions that would've happened at coffee anyway love it again, what lgbt folks are welcome to do is to hear the message of the gospel preached to learn and understand what it is that god is doing in this world and where they fit into that and they're invited to come and taste and see that the lord is good right?

that's psalm 34 but they are not welcome and again, not just lgbt, but anybody not welcome to continue to act as if god has no desires for their lives?

as if they are not in rebellion against the lord? i mean, this is clearly delineated in ephesians 4, take a look at this now i say this in testifying to the lord, that you must no longer walk as the gentiles do in the futility of their minds they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of god because of the ignorance that is in them due to their, what?

hardness of heart if you're watching and you're on the fence, right? you're not entirely sure what's going on with christianity you're not entirely sure that the world has the best answers either really consider what the scripture is saying right here they have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality greedy to practice every kind of impurity but that is not the way you learned christ assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in jesus to put off your old self which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through, here it is, deceitful desires and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of god in true righteousness and holiness clearly you see the contrast between deceitful desires and god's true righteousness and holiness it's about living according to god's design for you not your deceitful desires and again, this is just as true for lgbt folks as it is for heterosexual folks who seek to live according to their own deceitful desires as well can you see that that is not love?

that's not everybody's welcome you designate a different status to gay people limiting their opportunities and you're not willing to afford the same benefits to a gay couple that you yourself enjoy that's not loving your neighbor as yourself no, we just love everybody yeah, the status of all sinners is that they are alienated from god separated because of their iniquity that's isaiah 59 ephesians 2 says we were dead in our trespasses and sins that's our status as sinners in this world and the benefits of that status is death for the wages of sin is death, that's romans 6 .23

but when we give our lives to christ our status changes, that's the gospel now we are seated in the heavenly places with christ but it comes at a cost it comes at the cost of denying ourselves picking up our cross, and following jesus listen, listen, listen you do not need a f***ing savior look, this whole christian concept of jesus coming along to save you is predicated on the idea that we can never grow up sky daddy comes along and acts like a parent like, it

SUCKS to be an adult so that's why we have christianity they're like, hey, don't be an adult let us, your parent, take care of you but the truth is way better you are responsible for yourself which means you can decide your own destiny so, who is your savior?

you are she said a few things who is the us in this equation? she said, let us take care of you who is the us?

who in the church is trying to become some kind of daddy authority figure?

i'm not exactly tracking that one if she's talking about our creator who made us and put us on this earth with a specific purpose well then i understand that i understand what she's rejecting there i just don't get the local daddy figures maybe she means pastors i'm not sure what's ironic with this video is this lady, by the way she's a witch?

is that what it says there? this lady says that christianity is predicated on the notion that we should never grow up and that her solution is just to follow your own desires, essentially do what you think is best follow your own destiny but that's ironic, that's what a child says this is how a child acts imma do what i want that's what children say to grow up and become a real adult is to recognize a fundamental fact the freedom to do whatever you want is just slavery dressed up in different clothes there was a popular song in the 90s by i think it was the soup dragons and it said, i'm free to do what i want any old time.

catchy song guess what? people who believe this and pursue this kind of thing tricks on them because they're not free they have become slaves to their own desires this is literally what god wants you to break free from god wants you, ironically to this lady's message god wants you to grow up peter says in 2 peter 2 19 he says those who despise authority they promise freedom but they themselves are slaves of corruption for whatever overcomes a person to that he is enslaved the incredibly tragic trick on a lot of people is that they think they are free when they are slaves this is matrix level trickery and we do it to ourselves just like the previous lady this lady says, you know we are master and commander of our own vessel that all we have to do is choose our own path and that is the solution to our problems which is another ironic aspect of this video, because the first thing she said was, you don't need a savior and the last thing she said was, you are your own savior so which is it?

do we need saving or not? all the major religions have recognized that there is something wrong with the world as a matter of fact,

I would argue that a lot of non -religious folks would also recognize hey, something's wrong with the world if you have non -religious friends here's an interesting conversation starter go up to them the next time you see them and ask them, what's wrong with the world?

they'll most likely give you an answer why? because they recognize something's wrong and with the amount of movies television shows, songs etc.

that feature saving the world or individuals saving each other, we humans have a very interesting fixation with being saved, don't we?

with experiencing salvation, the question is why do we feel that? where does that come from?

is it because something's actually wrong with the world? and if something is wrong, what's the best explanation for this?

I think the bible gives us the best explanation for what's wrong what's this lady's explanation? usually when

I hear stuff like this my first question is, okay show me any evidence that your claims are true, and Christians will take it seriously.

if you can save yourself from what, she doesn't say, well then that's your claim that must be supported with some kind of evidence or sufficient reasoning.

just like anybody else should support themselves with evidence or sufficient reasoning so where is all of that?

I don't know. she doesn't provide which is actually shocking because TikTok is usually a bastion for logical reasoning sarcasm.

okay, alright, let's take these one at a time Acts 8 26 -39

Paul Dries says trans people were welcomed into the early church survey says incorrect.

now an angel of the lord said to Philip, rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza this is a desert place and he rose and went.

and there was an Ethiopian a eunuch a court official of Candace, queen of the

Ethiopians who was in charge of all her treasure he had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning seated in his chariot and was reading the prophet

Isaiah and the spirit said to Philip, go over and join this chariot so Philip went to him heard him reading

Isaiah said do you understand what you are reading? so Philip helps the eunuch read the scroll of Isaiah the eunuch gets baptized right there on the spot so here's the question where is the trans person in this passage?

I didn't see it, did you? as a matter of fact, where are any trans people in the bible?

can we find any in there? if Paul Dries, I don't even know if that's how do you pronounce his last name, if he's suggesting that eunuchs are trans that's the claim now where's the evidence to back it up?

by the way, I mentioned this in a previous video, that the bible doesn't give a basic definition for eunuchs there's another place where Jesus talks about eunuchs as well but the bible doesn't really go in great depth to define these kinds of things, right?

so it doesn't say, and there was a eunuch, p .s. a eunuch is a gender non -binary person p .s.

a eunuch is a person whose gender doesn't match their body there actually is a slight clarification, like a slight definition on what a eunuch is it's maybe more of a specifier than anything else, but it says in verse 27 a eunuch a court official of Candace, queen of the

Ethiopians doesn't say anything else about it why? well, because the early church already knew what a eunuch was there were essentially two types of eunuchs these were either a person who was born without male reproductive parts by the way, not a trans person or they were a person who was castrated in order to work as a government or royal official which is, it seems, exactly what's going on here in Philippians or excuse me, in Acts.

why would they be castrated, Nate? that's a great question, because these eunuchs would work in an environment where there were women in positions of royalty here it says

Candace queen of the Ethiopians it's telling you in Acts chapter 8 what's going on and because there were women in positions of royalty, there was a concern for their personal safety, so they castrated the male servants in these roles but wait a second, do you realize what that means?

the eunuchs weren't gay guys. you see that? Matthew chapter 28 verses 1 -10, Paul Drees says the first Christian preacher was

Mary Magdalene. survey says it depends it depends on what you mean by preaching so the six million dollar question is what is preaching?

right? how is Paul Drees using the word preaching here? well, maybe there's another question, like, what's the point you're trying to make here,

Paul Drees? so, let's work this backwards. if the point is to say that, well, women can be preachers at the pulpit, well then

Paul Drees should not go to Matthew chapter 28 verse 1 -10 to make his point, he should go to 1

Corinthians 11 right? 1 Corinthians 14 he should probably go to maybe

Romans chapter 16 he's definitely gonna have to wrestle with 1 Timothy 2, 11 -15 by the way, did a reaction to a debate on whether or not women should be preachers at the pulpit focused on 1

Timothy 2? so, if you want to check that out, you should definitely go back and look at that okay? in other words, this man is going to have to make a way better exegetical argument than just pointing and giggling.

the second thing is well, what is preaching? if preaching is simply proclaiming that Jesus is risen, then

Mary absolutely did that so the angel said to the women, do not be afraid for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified he is not here, for he has risen, as he said.

come see the place where he lay. then go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee, there you will see him see,

I have told you so, they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy these are the women, and they ran to tell his disciples.

okay? great Mary told the disciples what the angel told her. nobody denies this it's actually a wonderful aspect of the story but wait a second, if the point was to argue that women should preach at the pulpit then preaching in that sense is more than just relaying what an angel said it's about delivering a sermon it's about preaching and explicating what the word of God says and as I've said many times now, there is a goal for the preacher right?

Ephesians 4 says the preacher, just along with the pastor, teacher, all the other roles of ministry and church they are to equip the saints for the work of ministry.

and again, if that's Paul Dries' argument, then he's going to have to go to other texts the other texts that I mentioned, and do the hard work of making an actual exegetical argument.

Matthew chapter 7 verse 1 through 5, Paul Dries says, judgment of others is always based in hypocrisy survey says, incorrect.

you know how you know this? just read it just read the actual passage. so this is

Jesus speaking judge not that you be not judged for with the judgment you pronounce, you will be judged.

and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. a lot of people stop right there and they go, see? nobody should judge this is where you just need to keep reading.

verse 3 why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

or how can you say to your brother, let me take the speck out of your eye, when there is a log in your own eye? here it is.

you hypocrite. first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

so what are you supposed to do at the end of this sort of passage here? what does Jesus want you to do?

never judge anybody because you're always a hypocrite when you do it? no. he wants you to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

what do you call that then? when you take the speck out of somebody else's eye is that called judging? yep that's right.

the point that Jesus is making is not that judgment is always hypocritical it's that when you do it, don't be a hypocrite.

that means judgment can be done unhypocritically it can be done righteously you know that this is the case because later in John 7,

Jesus says, do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.

think about it how are we to fulfill the biblical injunction? to go and tell your brother his fault when he sins against you, right?

that's Matthew 18. in the spirit of iron sharpening iron, right? how are we supposed to do that if Paul Drees here tells us that every time we do it we're being hypocrites?

i think the worst thing the evangelical church has done is to combine the idea that you should love others as yourself with the idea that you are inherently unlovable and deserving of hell.

because if you're taught to hate yourself then when you hate others you're loving others as you love yourself this is why evangelicals have this disconnect between loving people and accepting them for who they are because inherently they're taught that they are not acceptable the way that they are so...

where were they taught this? where did they get this idea that they're not acceptable the way that they are? is it the bible?

Romans 5 verse 12 says, therefore just as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned, for sin was indeed in the world before the law was given but sin is not counted where there is no law yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam who was a type of the one who was to come but the free gift is not like the trespass for if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man

Jesus Christ abounded for many does that sound like we're good the way we are?

where is it taught in the bible that we are good just the way we are? show me that verse and then i can track the rest of this conversation they cannot accept other people the way that they are because they can't accept themselves the way that they are, and they're taught that that is actually loving themselves and other people, and that's how evangelical and fundamentalist churches weaponize

God's love by teaching you to withhold it from yourself and from others that's also why there's such a correlation between learning to love yourself and deconstructing your evangelical upbringing so there's actually a bit of an interesting point slipped into the rest of this diatribe which the diatribe is just glorification of self all over again which are you noticing the pattern?

glorification of self is definitely a recurring theme amongst progressives and woke people you see that right?

but there's an interesting point also in the middle of this there are such things as fundamentalist churches there are such things as abusive leaders in fundamentalist settings and many people have been hurt because fundamentalist abusers have weaponized the

Bible that's absolutely true and it is tragic it's unacceptable whenever that happens, and I think actually

Christians should acknowledge this more and more nobody should use the Bible to manipulate and abuse other people and abusers will answer to God for what they've done, especially in His name.

Having said that, what does the fact that these churches exist have to do with the rest of the evangelical churches who faithfully teach what the

Bible says about the consequences of our sin and our need for a savior? Once again progressives' talking points run right up against Jesus Himself look,

I'll read it one more time Mark 8, if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me for whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the

Gospels will save it does that sound like Jesus is fine with the way you are? or how about this one,

Jesus said in John 12, verse 24 truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of weed falls into the earth and dies it remains alone, but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Okay, similar terminology there because He's making the same point. I ask again does this sound like Jesus wants you to stay the way you are?

or does He want you to come to Him to lay your burdens at His feet to follow

Him, and to abide in Him, to allow yourself to be transformed into His image? okay then, please deny your sexuality, straight people if you think sexuality is a choice, if you think it's something that can be overcome please stop being straight show me how to do that and then maybe

I'll consider your argument boy, I just feel like a broken record right now do you see the pattern here?

progressives presuppose that a person's own desires should be elevated and supported that what they feel and what they want should be encouraged and affirmed.

I ask again, where does the Bible teach this? Forget about the clear teaching of scripture on LGBT activity that says, not only is it a sin, but those who practice it will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Set those aside just for a moment. Where does the Bible teach that we should embrace our desires? that we should embrace our own idea about sexuality, that we should be led by our passions do you see how this is a bigger issue than just LGBT?

this encompasses every person that lives on this planet show us the biblical passages that teach this concept that we should be led by our desires and that we should elevate them and I think

Christians will lean in and pay more attention but the fact is, the Bible teaches the complete opposite. As a matter of fact it's interesting, sin is characterized as the product of your own desires in James 1 but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire then desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin and sin, when it is fully grown, brings forth death notice the gauche sort of way of describing sin as the sexual product of your own desires that then becomes pregnant after you pursue those desires this is a similar concept to what the

Lord tells Cain in Genesis 4 Cain is extremely angry at his brother and so the Lord warns him the

Lord said to Cain, why are you angry? and why has your face fallen? Here it is if you do well, will you not be accepted?

and if you do not do well sin is crouching at the door its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it in the

Hebrew, the word means for desire, it means to long for, to long for you, you know, so God is saying that sin longs for you, but you are to rule over it, as a matter of fact and I mentioned this before, but the word

Adam in the Hebrew if you pay careful attention to the Hebrew letters, it brings in this idea of controlling your passion, controlling your desires, this is one of the fundamental lessons of what it means to be a human made in the image of God you must control yourself you must control your passions there's no accident that one of the fruits of the spirit is self -control, if you do not control your desires, you will become like a beast, which is exactly what the serpent did he essentially got

Eve to succumb to her desires, look at this Genesis 3 -6, so when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate the serpent enticed her to succumb to her desires for the forbidden fruit so to take this back to Brandon Robertson you not only have clear biblical teaching that LGBT activity is a sin but the

Bible also teaches us that sin's desire is to have us, but we must control it but this is unthinkable for someone like Robinson we must not only succumb to our sexual desires, we must elevate them to the point where we define our own identity by it and there is just bad news for those who believe this, look at this this is probably the last verse and then

I'll close Philippians 3 -19, this is what it says the enemies of the cross of Christ, their end is destruction their

God is their belly and they glory in their shame with minds set on earthly things in other words, their appetite their desire is their

God and their end is destruction but when you submit your ideas your beliefs, your own desires to God and his word if you make that the priority in your life you will flourish you will find true shalom you will have eternal life that is the

Bible's promise some might say, okay Nate, well does that mean that I'll be single for the rest of my life? wrong question, okay the question is, how will you be truly satisfied day to day in whatever life circumstances you find yourselves and the answer is not who

I get married to, who I have sex with the answer is following Jesus and abiding in him that was instructive and you know, that's why

I do these videos okay, let's not get into the comments now and start bashing these people let's disentangle their destructive ideas from the persons who said these things, why?

because it's not too late for them let's pray that God gets a hold of their lives and completely turns them around wouldn't that be a wonderful story that we would all love to see play out and share around I mean, it happened to me and it can absolutely happen to these folks as well, so it's not too late in that spirit, okay how would you respond in these kinds of situations?
