The Doctrine of the Week for this Sunday is the Godhead and the Divinity of Christ.
In the Gospel of John, chapter 1, verses 1 through 3, it says,
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He was in the beginning with God, and all things were made through him.
And without him nothing was made that was made. And then in verse 14, we read that the
Word became flesh and dwelt among us. So clearly the Word is just another name or title for Jesus Christ.
So we see this insight into the Godhead that in the beginning was
Christ. Christ was with God, and Christ was
God. So in one sense, Jesus is God.
He is divine. And yet at the same time, there is a distinction between God and Christ.
And then, of course, you have the Holy Spirit who is called, in Ephesians 4 .30, he is called the
Holy Spirit of God. So the Word, as most of you know, the Word the church has used historically to describe this is the
Word Trinity. That God is triune in nature. And of course,
Trinity simply means the three in one. Tri - meaning three, and then unity - meaning one.
So Christians believe that there is one God existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
And we will simply close with the words of Jesus who told his disciples in Matthew 28 verse 19,
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the
